I have a 10 month (15,000 mile) Prius and the " check hybrid system" warning light came on while driving on the interstate. 17 miles later the car quit running. I had it towed to the local dealer and after taking a looking at it I was told the error code pointed to the water pump (which they plan to replace). Does that make since? Has this been a problem for the Prius IV?
View 4 RepliesI was going through a bad day today with my 2010 Prius Gen 3. I was on highway driving at 68MPH behind another car, at the time I step down on gas pedal for overtaking, all a sudden both "Check PCS system" and "Check Hybrid system" appears on the Console display and gas pedal had no response from the engine at all. The car was not moving and I had to stop aside and "P" the car. I tried to turn off the car, turn back on more than 10 times. Both warning signal "Check PCS system" and "Check Hybrid system" display on console and the car can not go into "ready" mode hence the car can not drive. I could put shift to "P","N" but just not "D". Had to call tow truck to tow back to toyota dealer, and they said will look into it on Monday.
View 5 RepliesI just bought a used 2012 Toyota Prius iTech from a country town 3 hours away. About an hour into the drive home, the display informed me to "Check Hybrid System" and then "Check PCS System". The car continued to function for a little while, then eventually lost acceleration, so I pulled over. I turned it off and on again; the warning light remained but the car started and continued to work, but soon after I lost acceleration again. This happened one more time.
Then I Googled the problem and discovered that you could "turn it off and on again three times to reset the computer". I did this and the problem disappeared and did not resurface for the remainder of the trip, and has not happened again since.
Just started up my car and the "Check Hybrid warning system" came on, along with a check engine light. The car starts and moves, but I'm unsure if I should drive it to the dealer two miles away without doing any further damage to the vehicle or have it towed. The car has 130000 miles and is serviced every 5000 at the dealer with all recommended maintenance performed.
View 11 RepliesWe bought a used Toyota Prius 2012 with about 35,000 km in early August 2015. We shipped it overseas. It gives the "Check Hybrid System" error when we try to start it. All the lights and instruments work o.k.
I've read this car be a problem if the car is parked a long time, which it was as it was mostly in a shipping container.
First off I have a 2010 with about 11,000 miles and it has been running great since I got it. This morning I was greeted with the "Yellow triangle" and the "check hybrid system warning". The car started fine and I pulled out of the garage under battery as usual and then the engine kicked in also as usual, everything seemed normal except for the warning lights. Since I have a long commute I just took my wife's car and got to work and did a forum search on this issue. I called my wife and had her turn the car on and off three times and she said it cleared the yellow triangle and check hybrid system but it still had the check engine light on. She also said the car seemed to be running fine and shes driving around town in it. I couldn't find anything on the check engine light. Is it ok to drive it?

I had been driving for about 6 miles in 85 degree heat (after the car was parked all day at work) on the freeway at 60mph when the "check hybrid system" warning came on and my speed reduced to about 40. I pulled over and called a tow truck. After I was towed to a dealer about 25 miles away, the car started up without the "check hybrid system" light coming on. However, the check engine light did come on. My car is low mileage with only 31,000 miles on it.

View 19 RepliesMy Prius yesterday while driving slowly (under 10 mph) all the dash warning lights came on(triangle, cel, trac control, brake). the gas engine started and the message came on that says: "check hybrid system". Today when I went out to check there only two warning lights on (triangle and cel) with the same message displayed. My question is can the vehicle operate without damaging anything if I drive it as is? I have read on several threads that the engine will not start if the hybrid motor(s) are not working. Since my engine starts and runs I have to believe the motor(s) are working.

View 11 RepliesI have a 2013 Prius Persona with about 5,300 miles on the vehicle. Just recently had the 5,000 mile service taken care of at a local toyota dealership. The very next day I tried to start my vehicle with no prevail. My instrument panel indicates "check hybrid system" (!) the car will not start, nor will it shift into drive or reverse, only into the neutral position. Made several attempts to turn vehicle on and off and tried to jump start. Still no luck. Had the car towed back to the dealership. Mechanics are still trying to identify the problem. What may be the cause?
View 5 RepliesSo a little over a month ago, I was driving my 2010 Prius (about 42k miles) when the Check Hybrid System light came on. I lost power and my car was stuck on the road, as I was unable to get it into neutral. So I called a tow truck and was towed to my local dealership. The dealership ran some tests, thought it might have been the throttle body. They switched my throttle body with a loaner prius to see if this fixed the problem. The new throttle body worked in my car and my throttle body was put into the loaner and functioned fine. Then they ended up fixing a TSB for the electronics in the car. I was told the problem was resolved and I could pick up the car about a week later.
After picking up the car a week later, before I could even drive away from the dealership, the Check Hybrid System warning came on again. I talked with the service manager and left my car to be fixed again. They checked all the systems and were still unsure what the problem was. Eventually they made sure all the connectors were properly seated and test drove the car and ensured the problem was gone. About two weeks later, I was told the car was fixed and I could pick it up.
After picking up the car, I was still unsure the problem was fixed, but I was told that was all I could do. After having the car, for about a 1.5 weeks I was on the highway. Once again, the check hybrid system light came on and I lost engine power. Luckily, I was able to pull over from the left lane without causing an accident. Once again, I had the car towed to the dealer and now I am waiting to hear back from them.
I was driving, when out of the blue my car went into neutral, and the dashboard lit up. Then all of a sudden the light stayed on "check hybrid system". I pulled over to side of road. AAA towed me.
THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. NO warning.
Check hybrid system light came on and the whole dash lit up like a christmas tree. After i jumpstarted the 12v battery when it died. It was driving fine for about half an hour and all of a sudden the lights came on during acceleration from a stop light.
View 7 Replies2010 Toyota Prius III with just under 60,000 miles. The car has been serviced at Toyota from day one (by us and by the previous owners) and runs like a champ. Well, did.
Last week while driving home from running errands the Check Hybrid System light came on for my wife. The car was still running so she drove it home for me to look at. I hopped in and noticed the gasoline engine wasn't turning on. I took it for a spin and even when I floored the car the gas engine wouldn't turn on. Since the nearest dealership is 15 highway miles away I knew we weren't going to make it there on electric power so I had it towed.
The Toyota dealership called me the next day saying when they started the car the light was gone and the car ran fine. They did some troubleshooting and found nothing wrong. They said it might have been a glitch and to come get the car. Not even 3 hours later the light turns on again. Again the gasoline engine goes silent, but this time I didn't even make it a mile and the electric power shuts off as well! We coasted to a stop and had to have the car towed again. This happened out of nowhere and could have been a very serious safety situation had it not happened on the road we were on.
This time the Toyota dealership had a little more to say. They said that their diagnosis has determined that the inverter is shot and they will have to order a new one. They said this failure is extremely rare (the service guy I spoke with had never seen this issue).
My 2010 III's hybrid warning light illuminated today while I was driving, and the vehicle shut down almost immediately.

Let's just say I know for certain nothing is wrong. It's only cause I accidentally disconnected and reconnected a wire. Just need to reset is all.
I have a 2015 Prius package two. The other day I was taking it in for its 10,000 mile maintenance, and I pulled out a fuse that I connected my DRL lights with the Main power (so the drl lights would be on with the head lights). The car was on and the check hybrid system light came on. The car would not move only stayed in park and neutral. I had Toyota care come pick it up and they said that if there's any issues that the warranty won't cover it. How I can get the warranty to cover any damages if there is any. The tow truck driver said he thought the car Might think it's being stolen because I did unplug the battery for about 15 minutes to try to reset the check hybrid system.
View 19 RepliesI was trying to install the invisicord cable for my escort radar detector thru the auto dimming/homelink mirror, I shorted it and homelink no longer has any power, a couple minutes later i got a check hybrid system.
Now question how do i restore power to the homelink mirror, is there a fuse to replace? And that warning and all the other warnings that i got related to the short. I read somewhere here that if power to the homelink mirror was off that you get no power to some systems, not sure where is that post, cant find it the car starts.

View 19 RepliesI've got some issues with my 2005 Toyata Prius (~150,000 miles). My wife was driving recently and the "Master Warning Light", the "Hybrid System Warning Light" and the yellow "Brake System Warning Light" all came on.
Some quick reading of the owners manual said we should take it to a dealer right away, but because it was a yellow, and not red, brake system warning light it seems ok to drive at least to a dealer. in regard to the yellow brake system light the manual said it could be that: "the regenerative brake system failed or that the hydraulic brake system failed".
Now, I have a cheap bluetooth OBD reader hooked up to the "torque" app on my phone and I thought I would try to see what error codes there were to learn more. But strangely, it did not read any fault codes. I've used this reader successfully on my 2001 Mitsubishi galant, but I'm not reading anything for the prius in this case. I'm not sure if there is legitimately no error code associate with the warning lights or if my app is just failing to read them for some reason.
