I am considering purchasing a 2010 as an upgrade from my current 2008, I have been reading recently as these last 3 days of constant rain made me check my current one for leaks and like normally the battery tray was filled with water.
View 3 RepliesOK, I've been reading a lot about this problem occurring in the pre 2010 prius where there is a crack around the hatch that fills the 12V battery well with water. About a month ago, I started getting a whiff of something rotting. A mix of the dead smell and rotting fruit. I was certain one of my kids left some food in the car or something got in the HVAC vent. As time has gone by, the odor has changed to more of a rotting leaves kind of smell.
I got out my shopvac and a snake camera. I went through the HVAC system and found that the filter was pulled back a bit. I replaced it on the spot. I found a few leaves and dust and that was it. The air coming from the vents from the outside smells clean. There were lots of wet leaves in the engine bay, but it wasn't the problem.
I started tearing apart the trunk because sometimes stuff spills into the tire well. I found the spare tire had turned brown on the tread.
I opened the battery compartment and found about an inch of standing milky white water. The kicker here is that the water didn't seem to smell that bad! I dried it all up and bleached the metal to kill any mold that might be in the residue...but the odor remains. The car smells awful!
I have torn apart the back of the car but I cannot find the source of the leak. I actually think it was from the car wash or going through a puddle and water got in the rear vent. The battery fender vent vanes were flapping with gusts of wind today, but even after a heavy rainstorm no new water has gotten in.
The car was hit in the parking lot and the rear fender moved about an 1/8th of an inch from the bumper, but there are no obvious signs of water entry anywhere... in fact, I was even suspicious that it might have come from the battery itself, but I didn't touch it (used paper towels on a snake to dry it up under there). I didn't think to try baking soda to see if it was an acid, which makes bleach pretty stupid to use...but I didn't see any foaming.
TL;DR Found water in my 12V battery compartment. My car smells bad. Cleaning out water did not improve smell. Nothing in HVAC system, it is only clean air source in car. No signs of water ingress above 12v battery well. After rainstorm, no additional water found in battery well. Fender vent flaps in gusty wind, but still no new water.
Just changed out my 12v battery in my 2008 Prius, I found water in the battery compartment. There have been heavy rains this past weekend but it should not have entered the car.

View 4 RepliesOne of the battery module got exploded in my 2007 Prius with 160k miles on it while I was driving the road. I had a red triangle appeared few weeks ago, so I knew that I need to change the HV battery. However, I did not expect that it got exploded like this. I heard a loud 'BANG' noise from back and had a burnt smell. I immediately pull over my car (I could drive 0.1 miles more to find a proper space) and had my car towed to nearby Toyota dealership. I did not actually see the module exploded, however, from the threads here and there, I could guess what was happening.
I got a call from the Toyota today that they had smoke filled in a car when they started a car so they did not go any further from there. They called me because they need to pull out the battery to inspect if there are other problems underneath the battery.
My toddler spilled an open bottle of water from her rear facing car seat on the passenger side of my brand new Prius III. From what I can make out, her car seat and the sides of the passenger seat took most of the damage. But there were a few drops of water on the spokes of the battery vent. I cleaned it up and tried peering inside the vent to see if water got in but I couldn't tell much as it was dark out. We had to drive it back home as we were 20 miles away. What should my next steps be? Should I take it to the dealer in the morning to have the battery checked out? Can I remove the vent cover and wet vac it?? What signs should I look for? Am I looking at having to replace the battery!
View 15 RepliesI've got the hybrid battery out of the car and there is a decent amount of corrosion/acid on the copper contacts. I read that after cleaning them off with white vinegar and soaking in a baking soda/warm water mix... They spray some type of anti-corrosion spray on them.

I been having this issue when I drive to 0 miles left on gauge, then fill it at gas station and it clicks like its full, but shows only 8.5-9 gallons? And fuel gauge shows 1 bar missing from full.

Took to dealer and they replaced gauge module and was ok for 2 fill ups but now its doing it again.
My dad just brought home his new 98 Passat V6 wagon! So were washing it for the first time, and he notices that the rain tray is missing. no big deal.
But we also found that there is water pooling up in the drain tray area on the driver's side. Its way back in the corner. Drivers side, right in the corner of the firewall.
Where the drain plugs are around there? I have the Bentley manual, but thought someone out there might have a readily available answer.
2010, 35k miles... didn't see that coming.
Looks like the hose is made of some plastic material that doesn't like flexing very much. I guess I opened the rear hatch enough times to break it.
Is this a common problem? Is there a proper size coupler available to fix this?
I noticed that I was leaving a trail of water as pulled into the driveway. I thought it might be coolant, but it turns-out that an area under the hood had filled-up with water. It was the area right in front of the windshield, holding the battery. There was a pool of water there, as wide as the car, and about 6 inches deep! It came right up to the brake fluid reservoir. I assume that there's a drain hose from this area somewhere that's plugged?
View 3 RepliesWe got hit with some crazy rain about a month ago. My CCM was flooded and badly damaged, replaced it and it cranked a few times. had LOTS of frayed wires which I've cleaned up and replaced. unfortunately, I'm afraid that may have damaged the ecu.
Now I get a 17953 (throttle valve regulation malfunction) from vag-com. Would that problem keep the engine from turning over?
When I turn the key i get an obnoxious chime. I didn't get a response when i queried the immobilizer though i thought that might be the problem because when it was cranking, it would run less that 2 seconds then stop. Maybe still some bad wires, maybe a bad ecu, I'm not taking it to the dealer so it can just sit in the driveway and rot if it's not gonna run for me.
So as the title says the sunroof in my 2000 Jetta is leaking. I've taken down a, b, and c pillars, and the headliner. Poured water in the drain tray and no noticeable leak.. however when I spray it with the hose, the water overflows over the drain tray at the drain ends and into the car like Niagara falls. I've check all the connections, pinched open the plugs. I've already replaced the sunroof seal, which was noticeably shrunken. The new one fits snug all around but I'm still getting the leak. The water (from what i can tell) over flows the tray, runs down the headliner to the drivers side C pillar and then down into the trunk where the cd changer / safety kit was. I usually park uphill, and the one time I parked down hill and sprayed it with the hose the water was "Niagara falling" into my passenger seat.
View 4 RepliesI noticed that there are small dots in the center windshield just above the rear view mirror and wanted to have a tint strip installed to cut some heat and glare from the sun. Is it OK to have the tint over the dots or not? I have seen some priuses around and they just tinted the non dotted part of the windshield between the sides and the dotted center area.

View 3 RepliesI have an 09 f350 lariat with the factory 6 disc, sync system. Problem is the sunroof drain tube on the right front kinked and allowed water to overflow the drip tray on the sunroof and down the "A" pillar. The water then dripped onto the inertia fuel pump switch and then onto the sync module. I disassembled the module to dry and coat the circuit board with dielectric spray but one of the transistors is corroded and therefore the module is rendered useless. I have contacted the ford dealer for replacement module but no luck, even with the original part number on the sync module, or as ford calls it " Accessory Protocol Interface Module" My question is: can I get a module from another vehicle.

View 8 RepliesWas replacing the rear brakes on my Mom's 2010 Prius II and found a tiny tear in the piston dust boot on the driver side. The piston still moves freely. I was hoping the boot could be replaced without removing the piston but from reading the repair manual on the brakes it specifically says the boot must be placed on the piston before the piston is installed.
So now I'm debating on what to do. I can rebuild the caliper for almost nothing but I can't bleed the brakes because of the Prius' system. I would have to take it to the dealer afterwards and not sure about driving it there. Do things could be damaged with air in the system?
