I've had this happen twice now. I got my gen3 in October 09' and lately the car has said the key wasn't present though it was sitting on the passenger seat. I had to put the fob up to the start button just to get my car started.
View 9 RepliesI got this message today, twice as I was pulling out of the driveway but it went away both times. After the 1st I stopped and pulled the key out of my purse. It came back on a 3rd time and right as I was trying to determine if it was significant enough to pullover when the hood flew up and hit the windshield. The hood was closed and there were no other messages.

View 7 RepliesAfter last maintenance at dealer where I got my Prius. I get two or three times of "Key not Detected" message per week when I try to start the car. I have to push start button several times for the car to detect key and start up properly. However, I don't have issue to unlock door by placing hand on the sensor and enter driver's seat. Where to start? I thought it was battery issue, but that wouldn't explain why I don't have any issue unlocking the driver door by placing hand on the sensor, which I always do before I push the start button.

After 15 min it start detecting and car got started. Key battery is new but i just recently added another smart key with prius smart key. I am wondering its happening because interference of another key?
View 8 RepliesThe car beeped at me when I tried to lock it. Initially, I thought I forgot to turn it off. But no, it said "keys detected inside". Not so, as the key was in my pocket outside when I tried to lock it and the other key was 10 miles away at home.
View 2 RepliesI had a Samsung Galaxy s4 that gave me the message tethering detected and then the only way to get my phone to connect via bluetooth again was to delete the phone from the car and reestablish the connection which only worked until the signal popped up again. I called US Cellular and they thought it was the phone so I chose to get a refurbished s4 over having work done on my phone. I had that phone hooked up and working well for about 1 month and now the second phone is doing it.
The message last popped up while I was in my office across the street from the Prius. I'm guessing it's either a s4 issue or a US Cellular issue being it happens in and out of the car, but US Cellular is convinced it's my car. I'm thinking about switching to an iPhone because this is only one of the many things I hate about Samsung galaxies.
A few weeks ago, a relative was riding in the front passenger seat and asked me why the light said "passenger airbag off." I had seen that on before and didn't think anything more about it as I rarely have a passenger. Called Toyota to login the problem as I was traveling that week and thought I would be out of warranty before I could get it to the dealer. That particular light was on for some days afterwards and then I forgot about it. Tonight I noticed that "passenger airbag off" is not lit, but there is a light saying "airbag off."
I turned the car on and sat in the passenger seat, and the light that came on for my aunt didn't come on. Just "airbag off."
I have a 2012 Prius 4 and I'd like to upgrade the passenger seat to a power one. Where to go about doing that? Is it even doable?

View 4 RepliesI have something really strange that has happened to me... two days ago I noticed a small puddle of water in the back off my Prius on the floor behind the passenger seat. There is absolutely no water anyway else..I've thoroughly searched. I dried it up as much as I can but it seems to continue to get wet - not to the extent it was the first time I saw it, but when I press down with my hand I can hear water in the carpet. I've used a wet vac to suck up as much as I can... but I come back and it is still wet again.... What could be leaking... again.. absolutely nothing else is wet.. and nothing could have spilled that would have produced that much water.
View 7 RepliesEach time I reach 67mph, the empty passenger seat will shake profusely and I do feel a strong vibration under the car. Once I get above 72mph, the sensation goes away. Anything under 67mph is smooth as well.
It doesn't matter if I'm accelerating or coasting, It will occur between these speeds. I assume that I have one or more tires that may not be balanced correctly?
I continue to get that message whenever about anything is on the passenger seat. Today there was only a wrapper and an empty cardboard box from an oil filter. Together I doubt they weighed more than a few ounces. I normally just clear the message a few times to get it to go away...but today it triggered a seat belt alarm. Is there a way to change the amount of weight that it takes to trigger this message...or is it due to something else?
View 14 RepliesIn my mom's prius V, on the front passenger seat, under where you put your legs, the plastic panel is like coming off, and when i am sitting in it, i can feel the panel hitting my feet. I don't know exactly how to put the panel back together. Also, Whenever I drive her Prius around I am always tempted to put it into reverse when I am driving around normally. I know I won't do it, but I just feel tempted too. What would happen if somebody actually put it into reverse while I am driving at high speeds? would it just not allow the car to switch gears or whatever? I was going like 3mph and switched into reverse once, car just slowed to a stop.
View 5 RepliesThere have been a couple of incidents where the key fob has not been detected by the car, even though it is in the car. When it did this, I also noted the unlock button on the fob didn't work. It only does it a couple of times then all of a sudden it seems to work. There is no message for a low battery (it's not that old).

View 8 RepliesI have a 2011 Prius Three. After about a month of owning it, I had the dealer disable the back-up beeping so it only beeps once when backing. I'd like to disable the "key not detected" beep.
View 11 RepliesI changed the battery in my key fob recently. Since then the car has randomly given me "key not detected" signals. At these times, the door lock/unlock buttons don't work either.
When it does, I open it and push the battery around, trying to make it connect, close the fob back up, and it works for some apparently random amount of time. So my best guess it that there's a loose connection to the battery.
If so, have you found a cure, such as the right place to wedge in something small to make the connection secure? Anything else?
Last week as I was returning home I had a strange event in my Prius. I was coasting at about 30 mph when I heard a very faint pop sound a bit like a balloon breaking. It sounded like it came from the right rear area of the car. Afterwards I thought I detected a very faint chemical smell. Could this have been something involving the HV battery?
View 10 RepliesHave a 2010 GX 460 with dual dvds in the head rests. They are OEM not aftermarket. Both worked great until I had the car detailed a few days ago. Now the one behind the driver's seat works but the one behind the passenger seat does not. The screen changes from a dark color to a slightly lighter color but never gets a picture.
View 13 RepliesI picked up our ("our" means my wifes) GX last Friday. I'm a sports car and sports sedan guy. But I love buying vehicles, and I a huge car nut. It's a heck of a nice Luxury SUV with a lot of nice features.
One question so far. The web site specifically says the passenger seat position can be saved to the memory, but for the life of me I don't see how. Can it?
