I have a 2010 Prius that completely shut down in the middle of the interstate, I had to have it towed to Toyota. No clue where else to take it so I took it to the dealership.....
View 11 RepliesI have 2010 Toyota Camry, whose battery was replaced about 2 months ago. The oil was changed about a month ago also. Two days ago i was driving out of my gyms parking garage and 5 minutes into the drive my car completely shut off in the middle of traffic. It happened as soon as i hung up the phone while talking to my husband on a car speaker system. The car would not turn on, my dashboard looked like a rainbow with all the warning lights on, the windows worked, there was no sound coming from the car even when i tried to turn it on. I called AAA to have a wrecker move my car from the middle of traffic, and they stated there were no available wreckers, that i would have to wait 2 hours...so finally push the car into a drive way. So about 20 minutes pass by while I am waiting for my husband, and all the sudden I am able to turn my car on. I drove my car all the way home with my husband behind me ( 30 minute drive) with no problems. I still haven't had a problem but now I am paranoid that it might happen again.
View 3 RepliesIn reading the manual, I note that it says to use the ECO mode when you're doing a lot of stop and start driving. Does that mean I should NOT use it on the interstate? My daily commute consists of 11 minutes start and stop to interstate, 11 minutes on interstate, and another 11 minutes of start and stop. My Prius is not quite a month old, so i am still learning.
View 16 RepliesTruck in question is 2002 F150 4.6 with 150K miles. Crew was on interstate tonight driving 65 MPH and truck shut off. They called me out to trouble shoot. Engine had oil (was a quart low) and will not start. Starter engages but will not turn motor over. Had truck towed back to my shop. I removed belt just to see if it may be a locked up pulley i know, long shot)... it was not.
Employed called a shade tree mechanic he knows and trusts. He said was likely a broken timing chain and that is a common problem in 4.6. Said locked engine is probably because broken chain is wrapped around shaft. When I turn key fan does move about 1/4 inch.
1) Does this sound like a possibility or even a plausible explanation? Just trying to verify the information.
2) If this is the case, would a repair be advisable, or is engine likely shot and i should just replace it?
Shortly after i bought the truck and started driving it home, it shut down on me while coming up a mountain on the interstate. I had probably drove it about 10-15 miles and about 20-30 minutes of running after being dead cold. The temp gauge was about in the middle and it would not start up again until about an hour and a half later, which I was able to drive it home another 20 miles away.
There are no codes, which a mechanic told me it is probably an intermittent problem then. He then told me it would either be the cps, ipr or fuel pump. I have changed the cps and since then have not been able to replicate the problem but I have also not been able to get the engine up to temp because of the recent weather being so cold. I want to test the truck and see if I can get it to stall again but what this could be or what I can do to test the truck?
The truck is a 2003 f250 7.3 4x4 automatic, short bed, crew cab, with 320k miles.
I have a '10 IV and my drivers seat clicks in the middle of my back. It seems that it may be the top of the lumbar cushion going bad.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2010 Prius V that is honking the horn in the middle of the night and sometime in the middle of the day ( 5 short honks of the horn). This has been occurring over the last few months.
1. Only one key FOB and it is stable ( not in a pocket or something pushing a button)
2. Car is confirmed to be locked before this occurs.
3. No alarm issue from what I can tell ( I get up right away and no one or animal is around the car)
3. Cannot find root cause on a current thread although one person stated that it might be that the 12 VDC battery is starting to go bad???
No other issue with the car.
Long story short, at 77,100 miles, my engine failed yesterday. I bought the car new about 18 months ago, and have used it for work ever since.
After exiting the interstate yesterday, the car started knocking lightly. By the time I got home (about 3-4 miles), it was barely running, and knocking REALLY bad. No check engine lights or anything, and everything was working perfectly until then. I was sent a tow truck under warranty, and it's at the dealer now until Monday when they diagnosis it. This seems ridiculous for a new Hyundai
The right side of my navigation screen is filled with exits and distances to the next one, usually four at a time when driving on interstates. How to turn them off? I've scanned the Navigation manual, but haven't found anything.
View 12 RepliesI have a problem with my Lariat blowing cold air on the driver's side. It happened last weekend when it was snowing hard and drove around town for a couple hours with defrost on. After I got out on the interstate the cold air was blowing in through the vent on the driver's door and down by my feet. It was -4 driving home. I though that some ice may have gotten in and jammed a damper open allowing cold air in. I took the truck in and thawed it out and the same thing happens. Cold air out of drivers side and hot air out of the passengers side. The truck has the dual heat/cool setup and it seems as if the driver's side is stuck on cold but I have it set on just driver. It was only -25 this morning.

With the winters we get here, in my current car, there are times when I need to shut off VSC to power (read spin) up a hill instead of the car cutting power and leaving me stuck on the side of a hill. I have checked the manual and I do not see a way to shut this feature off. Both my car and the wife's have a button on the dash that shuts off stability control for the short term when needed, like in snow/sand, etc.

The tow truck operator was able to drive up on the flat bed using EV, but no engine. Dealer says it's the inverter which has a nationwide backorder and no ETA.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2012 Prius (3) with toyota Entune installed. Everything was working fine until recently. Several time after shutting the car off, my phone (Android RAZR/MAXX) starts ringing. It sounds like a phone call, but there is no call to answer and the ringing continues. Powering off the phone stops the ringing. But the next tine I turn off the Prius, the ringing resumes. I'm not sure if the problem is with the phone, with the car, or with Entune.

While driving at night all of a sudden the central LCD panel (Odometer) shut down. The right panel is perfectly fine.
Is there a solution?

View 19 RepliesIf I put the Prius in park while I get out and mail a letter, engine temp is 190, I can get back in and drive off on electric, zero rpm's. However, if I push the start/stop button, mail the letter, and restart the engine (temp is still 190), I cannot get the engine to spool down. It keeps running for a few minutes.
View 4 RepliesI was able to shut down the very annoying seat belt buzzer on my three 2008 Prius taxi's but when I tried on my 2010 Prius tonight it didn't work. I have done some searches on this forum and haven't found any solutions.
Just imagine the pleasure on a busy day of having 30 to 40 calls or more and most people not putting their belt on. Not looking forward to having to listen to the annoying seat belt buzzer/bell whatever you want to call it.
Ok, I'm not sure how to explain this, but I've noticed with some cars, you can slam the car doors real hard any something stops them from slamming and shaking everything. It seems that some seal or something in the door construction deals with that extra energy without giving you the impression you are slowly causing the car to fall apart. But not with the Prius. In fact, I have regular passengers who know my pet peeve and try not to slam the door and still have trouble *not* doing it.
What the name for this effect is, why the Prius has this problem, what it is that other cars have done to prevent it, and if there is something I can do about it, like an after-market modification?
I've found in manual and also on this great forum that the headlights should switch off in 30 sec (in Europe's manual default stated is 60) after switching off and leaving the car. My main lights go off immediately after powering off, but parking lights stay on and never go off. Need to confirm that it should switch all lights off?
