This may be by design but while cleaning my car running my hand w dry cloth over steering wheel I noticed a slight bump. To the left of the Toyota logo. I'm not sure if it's on purpose so if the airbag deploys it breaks away but I just noticed it. it's a 2015 Prius 3. Rather not have the airbag go off while driving.

View 5 RepliesThe last couple thousand of miles I have spent fighting vibrations (especially in steering wheel. Symptoms: When you hit the 65mph mark I am getting slight vibration in the steering wheel. Also passenger chair start shaking substantially more. I assume the shaking is of the whole car, but I feel it the most through the wheel and probably where my brain focuses on.
So far to correct the problem:
- Dealer replaced couple tires which showed excessive weight (the truck came with Michelin HP)
- Wheels were scratched through not careful person, so they have replaced them with a set from a demo
- Dealer balanced wheels 3+ times and done alignment
- Problem was not going away, so I have decided to try different tires and have bough new Michelin MS2
- Discount Tire has done several wheel balances, but seemed that it worked for a day or so
- Meantime also bolts holding lug nuts broke three times while tightening them (don't know if the same one but at three different occasions). Supposedly they have used spec pressure of 80lbs (83 Lexus recommended)
Dealer concentrates on wheel balancing, and is not taking action outside of this. I told the dealer that the problem cannot be wheel related. I think the cause could be one of the three (previous GX470 issues found on internet):
- Wheel bearing in the hub issue
- Drive shaft
- Transmission excluded as vibs are in all gears
- something with steering.
I am awaiting a call from the dealer when the FTS person will at the dealer again so he can trouble shoot the car.
Over the past month or so my wife and i have noticed a slight vibration or? I don't really know how to best describe it other than a feeling. The truck has developed this feeling thru the steering wheel and pedals. The best way i can describe it is like a bearing going bad?
It is full time awd and I am assuming it is an awd issue. The truck has about 60,000 miles on it. It can be felt at all speeds. I rotated the tires with no change. My next step would be to go thru the front end, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. But I really don't think the issue is in the steering. the truck drives straight and no steering vibration.
I was in a low-ceiling car garage when I opened the trunk of my Black 2010 Prius and it hit a copper pipe in the ceiling and got this ding. I attached a pic of it. I'm now desperate in trying to figure out how to repair it - either through a scratch remover or touch-out paint.
View 19 RepliesJust recently bought a 2005 prius. It had a few issues that I have been addressing.
Last issue is that the steering wheel has a very slight bind/sticking in the straight ahead position. Very slight steering corrections needed when driving straight down the road are annoying because of this bind/sticking. Steering is smooth and bind free through the entire range of left to right travel, except for straight ahead (center).
Does the steering gear have oil or grease that is replaceable? If so, what id the procedure?
I drove our 2007 Prius (79K miles) the other day and noticed a whirring or slight grating noise whenever I loaded up the left front wheel (by steering right) at speed. It's far from a hum or a howl at this point.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2010 model 5 and am experiencing a woo, woo, woo, woo type sound. I thought it was from the rear but after jacking up and turning each rear wheel, all I hear is the slight drag from the pads on the disc. The car has 61K on it and from previous posts that seems to be about the mileage range for one. It is most noticeable above 25 to 45 mph. Bad front bearing with this sound? The car is covered under the platinum warranty so cost is not a problem, just getting it diagnosed is useful.

View 8 RepliesI just purchased a 2010 Prius III with 47,000 miles on. I love the car except for one thing. it has a vibration I can feel in the steering wheel and seat at around 68-69mph. The dealer says it is normal. I did test drive another 2010 Prius and it did seem to have the same vibration.
View 19 RepliesOn the way to lunch today, I stopped at a store and ran in for about 10 minutes. When I get back in my 'egg, I notice that the steering wheel airbag module has "popped" or "sprung" out of place. Instead of being flush, it is now sticking out and creating quite the safety hazard, I'm sure.
View 15 RepliesI have two Sonatas, an 08 and 09 both limited and both 4 cylinders. On the 09 I treated myself to a custom leather and wood steering wheel. I disconnected the battery and let the car sit for a couple hours before starting swap. Then took my time and disconnected all wires and used a puller to remove the old wheel. Transferred the cruse and radio switches to the new wheel and reassembled in the reverse of removal. No issues everything went smooth. Reconnected the battery and started the car now the airbag light is on The light comes on when you initially turn the key goes off for about five or six seconds and then comes back on when engine is running. I did a search with no luck. I will disassemble and recheck everything.

It started with the aribag light staying on after startup (MFD message "airbag fault") and then today (2days later) the steering wheels buttons don't light up or work.
I ordered a new factory steering wheel to replace mine, which is starting to get nasty. I know how to change the steering wheel but have never done it on one with an air bag. Is this a dealer only thing? What is the procedure?

View 19 RepliesOK, I just got the airbag fult and am scheduled for service. I just noticed a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel Area... it does not occur with any specific movement and is fairly quite... definitely sounds like some kind of electrical switch tht is continually trying to do something (sensor??).
I am wondering if this is related to the airbag fault? Very annoying once you pick up on it... along with whatever is loose in my driver side pillar next to the seat belt strap that rattles with the bass!!
Just purchased 2012 prius IV a few days ago. When I am trying to scroll through my preset audio stations (using my steering wheel buttons) while my car is on the navigation screen, sometimes it will not go remain on the appropriate mode.
For example when I select the Mode to either the XM, FM or AM options and use the arrow up or arrow down button on the steering wheel to take me to the next preset for that particular mode, instead of taking me to the next preset station for that mode it will jump to a different mode.
Man one day my steering wheel buttons stopped displaying the hologramthing and my trip and display buttons do not work. The weird thing is all my other buttons work fine just no display on dash when presse. This caused my display to get stuck on the prius picture and the odometer instead of my mpg and trip.
View 8 RepliesI have a new 2 week old Prius 4. So far I love it. I've put about 600 miles on it. This past weekend I spent a decent amount of time on the freeway and noticed an issue with my steering. I'm pretty sure it is an alignment issue.
The car tracks straight. When I let go of the wheel the car goes dead straight but...the steering wheel is a bit off center turn slightly to the left. If I hold the wheel and turn the steering wheel right to exactly straight the car will go right. It's like they they aligned the car with the steering wheel slightly off center.
Switch out the Temp up/down buttons on steering wheel ... make them ECO and PWR mode in 3rd gen .... and EV / HV or PWR in Plug-in ??
(leave EV button on dash in regular Prius, not very useful, but place on wheel in PiP)
I say yes, for sure! I'm forgetting about the darn things ... laying to the right of the shifter.
I hear some PiP driver's would really like the EV / drive mode button(s) on the steering wheel. I heard they need to switch to EV and back into HV.
How often adjust temp on steering wheel? Not much here.
