I have a prius c 2 2012 and we just got about 8-9 inches of snow and after driving in the storm to work when I start up my prius or step on the gas to merge onto say a highway I have a small rattle noise in the rear/ muffler area under the car. My dad says it could just be build up of snow and ice under the car.

View 24 RepliesI had a friend drive my car while I was in the rear hatch area trying to find a bad rattle. I discovered that it is inside a large plastic panel just where the rear window wiper motor would be. I'm sure if I could safely remove this large panel, I could find out what the rattle is and quiet it.
How to remove this panel? Are there some hidden bolts or screws? I don't want to force-pry it off if that is not the proper way to remove it. I'd sure rather do this myself than go thru the dealer rigmarole.
I just drove my new 2011 IV with sunroof/sloar option and leather home yesterday and I noticed a sporadic low pitch rattle coming from the rear inside area. I will remove everything from the back today and see if it goes away.

Some customers may experience a buzz or slight rattle noise from the rear portion of the headliner when the vehicle hits small sharp bumps. It has been determined that the source of such a rattle may be the Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS) antenna located above the headliner between the rear of the sliding roof opening and the top of the back glass.
Well, after a few months of frustration hearing a buzzing in the back seats, i notice this bulletin on the 07 ES and I've tested on my 08 car and it is the same, simply tapping on the roof liner or pulling it and releasing it makes a buzzing sound. Even when i tap on the glass roof, the buzzing sound is resonating. Would the dealer rectify this issue if my car is a 08 ? I'm still under warranty.
I noticed the seam between the body and the bumper/fender part on my Prius was gaping ever so slightly today. It looks like there are a few light scratches, so maybe someone lightly bumped me? I tried pushing it in and up in case a clip wasn't catching, but I can't get it to completely close. I know it's a minute thing, but now that I've noticed, it bothers me.
View 17 RepliesI have a 2008 2.0t 6mt. A few months ago I started hearing a rattle coming from either the area under the rear window or in the trunk coming from the right side. It's not just a little rattle like a screw is loose... It sounds like a large hunk of metal or plastic is flopping back and forth. It's most noticeable at low speeds on rough roads and I think it's gotten louder over time. I recently moved to Richmond VA and the roads here are horrendous. It's not a faint noise either. Each time I drive with somebody new, its the first thing they notice. Folding the rear seats down definitely makes the rattle louder. I can sorta reproduce the sound when I rock the car back and forth.

View 22 RepliesExperience with rattling coming from the rear/trunk area. My 2013 1500km new limited with Nav have developed a very bad rattle coming from the back.
I have tried removing the rear deck and no luck, There are now nothing in the trunk except for my spare tire kit. the rattle gets louder when I fold down the rear seat. The rattle seems worse and more frequent when the car is between 10 to 60 km/s...
Tried searching, but all I found were links to fan noise in rear seat area. Yesterday my wife was in the garage and heard a fan-like noise in the right rear wheel well. The car had been parked for a couple of hours after a trip to the doctor's office. I could faintly hear it inside the cargo area when the 12v battery is located, but it was more pronounced outside. I got the key, started the car and the noise stopped and hasn't returned. I have no problem taking it in to have it checked, but I thought I'd check here before I did that in case it's normal. It's intermittent, so I don't know how easy it will be to diagnose.
View 6 RepliesI had a 12" sub installed in my trunk & was getting a horrendous rattle from the rear deck area. My first instinct was to put Dynamat everywhere but after some googling i ended up filling the underside of the rear deck area with trashbags!! I pushed 5 of them through the opening where you access the 3rd brake light & it now it sounds perfect. I uploaded a video to youtube with a sound test.....
View 6 RepliesI'm getting a rattle in the hatch area -- making a sound as if the hatch is moving independent of the body.
Sound like the hatch is loose -- but it's not. If I grab hold of the wing and try and move the hatch ---- it's tight and I get no sound.
I've owned a 2012 Prius Two for less than a month now, and today while driving home I noticed what sounds like road/wind noise coming from the rear passenger side area. Googling about this revealed information about the battery fan. However, I'm unsure if what I'm hearing is the battery fan or road/wind noise that I just haven't heard before.
Here's information regarding the conditions I was driving in:
- 84 degrees outside temperature
- car had been sitting in an open-air parking lot for about 2 hours
- no tint, no windows cracked for hot air release
- upon returning to the car I turned on the AC to 68, set at mid range speed
- was driving on the interstate doing some stop-and-go, but mostly 50-plus MPH
- windows rolled up completely, no doors ajar
- it sounded like air rushing by
- could not hear anything coming from the left rear side, but my left ear is partially blocked by the headrest, so...
- sound would decrease in volume if car slowed down
- sound would increase in volume as car got faster, but would eventually level out it seemed
- sound would completely go away at speeds below 20ish mph
- sound would not change based on level of AC, whether on, low, high or off
- checked battery vent for obstructions/debris, saw nothing, and was cool to the touch
- car has about 28k miles on it, replaced rear tires yesterday but all bolts, caps, etc. are securely in place
2008 - <40k miles. Drove the car a good 50 miles yesterday with no problems. today as i was leaving the house, i kept hearing a ticking noise that was progressive in frequency the faster i drove it. i only made it to the end of my street, went back home to drive off in my gas guzzler for my 50mile round trip today.
View 2 RepliesI'm still learning how to do P&G, it's my first hybrid. When I release the accelerator pedal completely, I see there's a small blue bar in the charge area. I know it in charging stage but does this slow down the car? I confuse if my car is slowed down by this or the wind resistance.
View 19 RepliesI bought a 09 Sonata GLS in July, really nice other than dash noise, what has been described as crackle. Briefly, my sonata is makes crackling noise going over small bumps, more pronounced in colder temp. I have taken it in to the dealer 4 times, problem still persist. According to the dealer, Hyundai regional office knows of my problem, and there is no fix for it at this time. I just bought the vehicle and I am suppose to live with it?????
View 69 RepliesHappened to go down to garage to get something from pip about 3 hours after charge was complete and noticed loud hum coming from right rear wheel well area.
We had not had any lightning storms, electrical interruptions or anything odd; house is on whole house surge protection, and 240v evse has been working fine.
Hum disappeared when car was booted up in ev for a moment and then turned off. Hasn't come back on in an hour.
The roads here in Maine this winter were especially awful with potholes and bumps. My '03 Ford Focus Wagon has recently developed a noise that I can't diagnose. The noise can be best described as a "rattle" from the front end when going over very small bumps/cracks in the road. It almost sounds like loose shocks. They are the original shocks and have 130k miles on them.
Big bumps are not a problem. Car does not bottom out, sway upon braking, or bounce when I put my weight on it and release. Several years ago I had a "creaking" from the front end and my mechanic replaced some bushings which fixed the problem. I originally thought this was the same, but it doesn't sound like that - worried it could be the struts but I want to diagnose it a little better before I bring it to a mechanic and just say that I have a front end noise...
I believe I have a spark plug issue although I am assured that they have been replaced in enough time to not have a problem. I'm am having acceleration issues, losing power over time, misfires and engine deceleration. I also now have a rattle that sounds like it is coming from my muffler only upon acceleration. It seems to be getting louder over time as well. This coupled with a rough idle and an over heated engine when the ac was on its cause for worry. Could the rattle be connected?
