I am having issues with a 2006 Gen II Prius that just approached 120K miles. When going down a hill at approx. 35-40mph, the engine jerks when downshifting or when coasting.
View 3 RepliesWhen shifting gears, mainly in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd while the air conditioner is on I'm experiencing jerking / clunking. When I shift it's not a smooth movement and produces a thump. The only way to really avoid this is by letting the clutch out very very slowly. It only happens when the A/C is turned on. Shifting is perfect when the A/C is off.
View 6 RepliesMy 2003 Aviator kind of stutters when in auto between gears. Most prevalent from 3 to D when driving regular. If I shift manually and tach it to 4k there is no stutter/vibration. My engine light is on and pretty sure the catalytic converter need to be changed. All new NKG plugs and associated coils. Throttle body clean, 91+ fuel only. Could this me a tranny starting to fail or computer/senor related? No other codes than the bank-2 O2 sensor....

View 18 RepliesMy car is a 99 honda accord v6 EX (coupe)It started overheating about 2-3months ago. I was driving along and the needle on the gauge was completely on hot. I was able to make it home. Ive basically been driving it this whole time with the defrost on 80 and on full blast. Which keeps it around the halfway mark between hot and cold. I had a friend change my thermostat .. didn't fix it. Still overheats. But after he did that it seems to get hotter faster now. When I am at a stoplight it gets as hot as the gauge will let it go, then when I start driving again it cools down a little.
Now, after he changed the thermostat the car has been driving really rough. When I slow down to stop, it'll jerk a couple lightly then stop. When I accelerate from a stopped position it'll jerk a little then go. And when it shifts gears(its an automatic) it jerks very noticeably. So now im freaking out worrying my transmission is going too. So I guess what I am wanting to know is ... wtf is wrong with it??? Water pump? Ive been told if I change the water pump I need to have them change the timing belt too .. yes?
I have a 97 4runner Automatic that as your driving it hesitates between shifting its gears. Most prominently happens around 80km/hr shifting between gears.
Its a sort of soft sputtering/jerking motion momentarily. It does shift into the gear and does drive fine once its in the gear. My check engine light is on as well now....
I recently bought a 2010 Hyundai Elantra GLS with about 40k on it. It was driving perfectly fine for about a week until the car would start jerking as the gears switched (I should note I switched the car out of ECO mode when I got it because I found it harder to accelerate with it on. The ECO mode keeps the transmission in higher gears to support fuel economy). I went to my shop and had the transmission fluid flushed and replaced. The car switches gears a lot better now, but another problem seemed to arise. About a mile or so after turning the car on and driving, it will switch into neutral for 3-5 seconds until I hit the gas hard enough for it to catch on and move. I've had multiple experienced people drive it around for awhile and they seem to find everything completely perfect with the car. Could it just be the way I drive, turning ECO mode off, or could something actually be wrong with the transmission or other parts?

As the auto trans heats up, the gears begin to get sticky. This creates a jerking motion as the engine downshifts while braking. It also happens at high speeds when attempting to downshift for acceleration.
Additionally, while shifting from park at hot temperatures, the transmission will take up to 15 seconds to engage into drive, and even more time (30-40 sec) to shift into reverse.
The car has recently (approx 6-8000 miles ago) had a complete transmission flush. The auto shop in town also suggested and did replace a sensor somewhere which supposedly had gone bad. But the problem persists...
Ok, when I'm driving and go up a hill or have to give it light pedal it stutters, almost like a cyl drop. I'm pretty sure its not a cylinder drop. It will continue to do it until I release throttle and mash it down again.
Also, when i turn the key at start up, I get nothing. I have to put it in N then it starts right up. Neutral saftey switch? And would that be related to the above issue? Guy at a shop said he thinks its IAC and said its connected to N switch?
I have a 2006 GS RWD the transmission started acting weird 4 month ago went to many workshops and no codes were found in the computer and my problem is that when i am moving in the car for more than half an hour and stop the car seems hard and jerking while shifting to 2nd gear and if i put it in tiptronic it go to 5th gear immediately it seems ok when the transmission is cold so what do you think it has got 125000 miles on it and what is the normal temperature for the transmission so i can test it with mini vci...
View 7 Repliesi have an 06 passat in manual, to put things short i was racing a friend last year on the highway and went from 5th to 4th at 120 thinking it was 6th and let the clutch grab ...needless to say i messed up the clutch and 2nd 4th and 6th gear felt like i was shifting into oatmeal if the RPMs were too high, BUT they would still grab.
thinking i only messed up the clutch setup, i went and got a clutch masters stage fx300 stage 3 kit with the steel flywheel (plan on going big turbo by summer)
after the shop installed the clutch, im getting the same results, better grabbing from the clutch in all gears EXCEPT FOR 6TH! 6th wont engage at all
so now im thinking i actually damaged the actual gears.
My friend has a 2007 accent with a manual transmission they said that they were driving and the transmission stopped shifting gears. The clutch pedal still has pressure so I don't think it is a master or slave cylinder issue. They freaked out and turned off the car and now the car will not start up again. Have any of you experienced anything like this before or know on this car where to start looking? I think the issue with not being able to switch gears could be a pressure plate issue but this would not cause the car not to start.
View 6 Replies2006 GX470, ~65k mi. When shifting from P to R, P to D, or R to D, the transmission often (but not always) seems to have to think about it a while. When it shifts fine it takes about 1sec for the transmission to change gears. When it's being cranky it takes ~4secs. There are no other symptoms.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2006 Chevy 2500HD with about 180000 miles. All of a sudden the transmission is shifting extremely hard at times. It doesn't shift this way all the time. What could be causing this problem? It doesn't have to be under hard acceleration either when it does shift hard. It sometimes is during hard accelerating and sometimes it is under very little acceleration, but as I said it doesn't do it every time. When it does shift hard, it seems to do it in all gears.

I understand that going down a steep hill, one should stay in the lower gears to slow the car and prevent constant braking and brake fade. However, what is the mechanics behind this? In lower gears, what prevents the car from continuing to gain speed as I am going down the hill. Let's say I am in 1st gear and my car max out at 20 mph. How is it that the car stays at 20mph and what prevents the car from flying down a steep hill? Won't the kinetic energy of the car eventually speed up car past 20mph?

No issues until 2 weeks ago I pulled out and began shift gears when the engine died and I completely lose pedal. The engine does not shut off it goes to idle and the lights and power are fine but I quickly lose acceleration. After a couple seconds and a few pumps on the pedal it comes back. The problem is intermittant. Until yesterday it was only in the morning but then happened on the way home from work. Thinking ti was water in the fuel I used an additive to cure the water.
I changed the fuel filter just after I bought it in April of this year. I know there is a Injector Pressure Sensor that could be the culprit. EGR?

Since moving to Tucson, AZ, from Flagstaff, AZ, the car jumps when changing gears (I have a manual) as if I was back in the day of learning how to drive a stick shift. This only happens in the summer, when temperatures get up to 110. Also, the idle is very rough and the car almost stalls when stopping quickly (this is infrequent). What's happening with my car?
