I left the trunk of my 2007 Prius open long enough for the light to drain the battery. Once I jumped it, I was able to drive the 100 miles home, even though the red triangle warning light was on. Now when I turn the car on, there's a light I've never seen before, as seen in the attached image.
View 11 RepliesOne day, I drove my Prius with my key fob in pocket. Parked the car. Turned off the power. Opened the driver side door to get off. Heard the continuous beep of "key fob in the slot" warning. I had never heard of it so I did not what it was. Tried closing / opening the door several times. The warning kept coming when I opened it. Tried getting off the car, pushed the lock button. It locked with lock beep normally.
After a few hours, I found the battery was dead. Had it jump started and the problem had not come back for a few weeks.
I've just returned from a late-night walk, where I discovered I'd left on the dome (interior ceiling) light in my 20-year-old car (soon to be replaced by a Prius c Two!) about a half-hour previously. I thought: if I hadn't noticed my mistake, tomorrow morning the battery would probably be dead!
Could this happen with a Prius c? Or is there a sensor that automatically douses any interior light(s) after, say, 15 minutes?
I have a Prius 2003 with 122k. My inverter water pump making noise it running but i do not see any coolant movement. Does this mean it a bad pump and need to be replace?
My door ajar warning light stay on all the time. I have check door sensors and the trunk lid sensor they all seem to be function. Where the wiring for the door ajar end up to the ECU maybe i can just short or by pass it? This maybe the cause of my 12V battery keep getting drain
I accidentally left my daytime running lights on today for about 6 hours. My car is fairly new - only a month old. Will this drain my battery? I have driven it several times since I noticed it but am wondering if it will drain within the next few days. Had that happen on a non-hybrid vehicle when I left the interior light on all night - battery died a day or two after that. I know the batteries on the Prius C are different than in non-hybrid cars though I admit I don't really understand what's inside my Prius. I've read the owner's manual but in all honesty, it's pretty Greek to me. Seems like it has both an electric battery and a "regular" battery. Any major damage to it?

View 6 RepliesFor some reason, I didn't close my trunk door good last night and I discovered that the trunk remained open all night long, about 12 hours. I am worried that the trunk light may have drained my battery. The car started up just fine with no delays or odd noises.

View 5 RepliesI just purchased a 2002 vw passat wagon VR6 yesterday. Driving it home about 2 hours into the drive, the warning on the dash started flashing door open and the display said "rear lid open" and a very annoying sound kept chiming. It did that all the way home. Once I got it home I turned it off and locked it. An hour later the alarm starts going off.. figure it was because of the trunk lid. The lid is completely latched and closed and locked.
View 2 RepliesSo my sisters Passats battery died this weekend. She had jumper cables, but they were buried in the trunk amongst all her other crap in there. We ended up folding the back seats and crawling into the trunk to release it using the trap lever, but it was a PITA.
Is there no keyhole, or is it hidden like the door key holes? The trunk release button on the driver door is electrical switch, so that did not work either.
I'm having a problem trying to troubleshoot the warning buzzer circuit. Normally,the warning buzzer beeps twice when the trunk begins to open. It will also beep twice when you press the button to close the trunk. Yesterday I noticed that the warning no longer sounds when i open the trunk, but still beeps when i close the trunk. I examined he trunk closer, but couldn't find the buzzer or an activator for the beep generator. The service manual was worthless.
View 10 RepliesI want to turn off the trunk light temporarily, either by jamming the switch or removing the bulb. But I couldn't find the switch, the cover seems that it would break very easily, neither manual nor my haynes book tells me how to do this, or anything about the trunk light.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2004 Saab 9-3. Currently the Battery Warning Light has come on. It came on while the car was being driven. The car's performance seemed to suffer and it was hard to turn the steering wheel. We were about two miles away from home and we somehow managed to get home but we simply couldn't get the car to turn on to our driveway because of loss of power for steering.
We checked the Saab manual and it reads : Warning Charging - This light comes on together with 'triangle/exclamation' light if the battery is not charging. If it comes on while you are driving, stop the car as soon as possible and switch off the engine.Check the alternator drive belt. If the belt has broken, the engine may overheat (cooling system will not function properly), the battery will not be charged, the A/C compressor will not run and power assistance for steering will be lost.
Our observation:- We experienced the a/c not working too well- We had problem with steering - It was almost as if the steering wheel was locked. It was extremely hard to turn. Is this an alternator belt or a battery issue? If so, how do we figure out?
My battery drains to 8v volts when I turn the key to the on position, not starting the car just turning it to the on position. I have done the key off parasitic voltage draw and there is none. This only happens when I turn the to the on position or start the car. The battery will only stay charged from a full charge to 8v or till car shuts off for less than 5 minutes. This is a huge draw! Okay it has a new battery and a new alternator, and I took battery out and did an ohms check received 14 ohms between neg and pos cable with battery out. I was told that was fine or normal. So any clues on what would cause my battery to drain so quickly? When I hook up my DVM to the battery while car is running I get 1 volt or more drop per minute only while running.
View 1 Replies2001 Honda Accord 4 cylinder... At 256K miles I had the battery and open doors, open trunk lights illuminate intermittently. Initially the lights came on for 1/2 mile. 150 miles later it was more like 20 miles on, off for a mile, on for 40 miles, off for 25 miles, on for 10 miles, and then off. A Honda dealer ( after the first 20 miles of battery light being on and 70 miles from home) replaced the battery and the lights came back on a mile down the road. I managed to get home. With engine running running battery voltage was 14.4 volts. The light stayed off for 30 miles the next day. AutoZone found no diagnostic codes. A mechanic told me that the battery light could be intermittent with a failing alternator. I changed the alternator (cracked case). The voltmeter again showed 14.4 volts with engine running. Will the car return to reliability?
View 1 RepliesMy 08 Prius developed a hiccup yesterday. While driving down the interstate there was an occasional red flash from the dash. It would come and go so fast that by the time I could actually process it and focus it was gone. I had to stop by the dentist office as I was ready to walk out the door I heard a car in the parking lot with the horn/alarm sounding. I mentioned to the folks in the waiting room that someone alarm was going off. A lady replied that green Prius with the bike rack!
Sure enough it was mine! I was unable to find any causal factor. I left there and at my next stop, the horn/alarm started sounding just as I walked through the entrance door to Home Depot back to the parking lot. This time the Door Ajar/Open light on the dash was lit. I opened and closed all the doors and hatch. The Door Ajar light was still on I then manually manipulated all the door switches and opened/closed/slammed the hatch several times. No Joy I drove home.
About the only thing I was able to find was that it was probably the hatch, the switch is sealed within the locking/latch mechanism and that I could simply just unplug it. So I began troubleshooting.
After removing the rear hatch/floor, plastic bin, etc. I removed the plastic cover from around the latch (above the bumper not on the hatch lid), then removed the longer plastic cover that runs along the same area and provides the cover for the area between the rubber gasket and the inside of the hatch/floor area. Now I was able to see the latch mechanism and associated wiring (looking down toward the spare tire well). I also had the hatch light turned on (left side) which was easier to see than the Door/Ajar light on the dash.
I manually tripped the latch and the light flickered. I pressed down on the latch (hoping to put more pressure on the internal switch)…the light continued to flicker. Using a 10mm socket, I removed the latch, wiring retainers and disconnected the plug. The electrical plug, located about 8†to the left of the latch has 4 wires. The two on the bottom power the electrically operated latch and the two on top go to the Door Ajar switch (the one that is inside the latch assembly).
I noticed a little bit of corrosion and discoloration on one of the male pins (the plug that is connected to the latch end of the wiring). The female plug (connected to the car end of the wiring) also had some discoloration.
I plugged them back together and found that as I moved the wires/plug the light would flicker and change sometimes turning off. I unplugged it and connected my ohm meter (using small jumper wires with clips) to the two top (male) pins on the switch end of the plug. The switch tested fine. I even tested it with my homemade battery powered continuity light (wanting to test the switch under a load). I also wiggled the wires going into the plug itself, Perfect, no problems here! So, I determined the problem was truly with the plug itself. I also jumped the two female connectors with a short piece of wire (simulating the switch) and the light would come on (as it should have). OK, plug problem confirmed!
I cleaned the pins (both male and female), applied some dielectric compound and plugged it up. The light remained off for a few seconds then started flickering again! I could even hear a slight hissing sound coming from the plug (never a good sign). I tried tweaking the male pins (bending them slightly trying for a better connection) No Joy.
I clipped the wires (only the top two) from each end of the plug (red & white/black stripe wires coming from the latch).
Quick question, my wife wasn't able to open our '04 Prius with the FOB. I replaced the battery, and the FOB started flashing, which I'm assuming means that the new battery is working properly. However, after I put the FOB back together, the lock/unlock buttons still don't work. I can still manually open the car with the attached key and start the car with the FOB, but I was wondering if there's still a problem.

View 18 RepliesBut while driving the hybrid warning light turned on in the MTD. A red car if I remember correctly. It was the hybrid battery over heating and to try and mess with the wiring going to the cooling fan in the right rear quarter panel.
View 6 RepliesI just purchased a 2006 Prius with 89k miles and it has a problem with the drive train and randomly losing all power on the freeway causing me to make emergency shoulder stops to reset the car.
The symptoms are as follows:
-red triangle on, orange circle with ! on, check engine light on, hybrid monitor green car symbol is red with ! in it
-traction battery fan is always on when car is powered
-the car has never driven under electric power
-shifting problems, sluggish acceleration and all power loss on freeway
-hybrid monitor system lies and shows the battery full one second and empty the next.
