Nov 14, 2014

In a cold weather also noticed the EV mode doesn't stay on for a long time even with a 90% full battery and fully warmed up. The engine starts to kick in randomly.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: AC Compressor Doesn't Stay On Long Enough

2009 F-150 XLT Super Crew 5.4 engine. The compressor cycles, but too often to get the interior cold. It has always been like this. While still in warranty Ford said it is fine. A good mechanic hooked it up to his machines and it seemed there is a sensor that said discharge temperature was below zero. Not even close. If there is one, where is this sensor? Is there a way to bypass this proble?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Gas Cap Doesn't Latch And Fuel Nozzles Won't Stay Put

I bought a '98 F150. 4.2 powered, 2WD, automatic. About 140k on it. The truck runs well and is in remarkable shape other than a few dings.

The fuel filler does have the "collar" with the little flapper door on it. So the gas cap doesn't latch and fuel nozzles won't stay put. How would this be repaired?

Nissan - Pathfinder :: 2002 - Take Long Time To Start - Fuel System?

My wife's Pathfinder (a 2002) has developed a problem with slow starting. The car cranks well (even at -20F, so it's not a weak battery) but takes a long time to start. It might crank for 5 seconds before sputtering to life. After being driven and shut off, most of the time, it will start up instantly again, just like it used to before the problem started. The problem is intermittent in that it sometimes starts pretty quickly in the morning, although it's not the instant start that it used to be, it might only crank for 1 second or less. I know that sounds like a normal time for a car to crank before starting, but the Pathfinder used to start, almost literally, instantly after the key was turned. So, even 1 second is an uncharacteristically long time.

What I've done:

-- Replaced spark plugs
-- Swapped the starter relays with identical relays under hood
-- Replaced fuel filter

What I haven't done:

--Replaced fuel pump
--Replaced fuel pressure regulator

Both of these are somewhat big jobs (I think I can handle both of them) and more expensive than what I've already done, so I'd like to get some input on where the fault could lie before picking one. Or, am I completely off base thinking it's fuel system?

Prius (Gen 3) :: 2011 Ready Indicator Doesn't Come On / Car Took Long To Shift Into Drive

About once a week our 2011 Prius will start, but the "Ready" indicator does not come on and the car cannot be shifted into drive. Once this happens it takes several attempts, turning the car on/off, until it finally comes on "Ready." I cannot create the problem, but it may stem from pushing the start button before the brake is fully depressed.

Last night it took more than 5 minutes to get it going. I "reset" the car by exiting, locking, and re entering the car. Then it worked, that procedure caused it to work.

Prius PHEV Plug-In :: EV Mode Won't Stay On

Any additional scenarios that can kick EV mode off? (I have read if the traction motor is above 104 degrees, EV mode is kicked off.)

Could too much (Enginer) power being dumped onto the HV buss (with a fully charged NiMH battery) also kick EB mode off?

Yesterday my NiMH battery was fully charged, all bars greed (don't know SOC because ScanGauge was set to AMPs). Three hours after a lengthy drive on a 70 degree day when I did have difficulty entering EV mode, I started the car, successfully engaged EV mode and the Enginer Kit, was backing out, and the engine immediately started. (No beeps indicating EV mode was turned off.)

My guess would be that after 3 hours of sitting in a shaded and cool garage that the traction motor would not be 104 degrees.

Could too many AMPs going into the PRIUS (not Enginer) DC-to-DC converter with a FULL NiMH battery cause the engine to start to somehow cool the Prius Converter? (It does have a cooling system, right?).

Prius (2004-09) :: When Car Is In Standby Mode Red Triangle Come Up And Stay There

I messed up a couple weeks ago and left the car battery running while waiting for someone. I noticed after doing that, that whenever i had the car is standby mode the red triangle would come up and stay there. Today i got into my car and when i tried turning on the car it died and only had a check engine light come on. I read online that it was the battery so i got the car jump started.

We did this with one of those jump starter boxes (not another car) and now the car is running fine. I read that jump starting a prius could cause damage to it and checked the battery levels. When i pushed the power button once the 12v level was at 12.4. When i pressed it twice the level was at 12.1 and when the car is on the level is at 13.9. My 2004 prius is now at 161k miles. Am I fine using the car as it is? or should i change the 12v, or check if the HV is alright?

Prius C :: Doesn't Switch To EV Mode For A While After Startup

I've recently noticed that every time I start up the car and drive, no matter how slow I go the car's engine running... and loudly. It seems to be revving high and low for at least 5-7 minutes into the drive even though it should be in EV mode at the speed I'm going and even when I stop. The battery is always juiced up too btw.

That issue seems to have only been for older cars that have driven quite a few KMs but mine has no more than 2000 KMs and is a brand new Prius C 2012.

Prius C :: EV Mode Doesn't Turn On - Car Has Only Gas Engine Running

It happens yesterday when I passed an accident caused traffic jam. The day is hot, about 100 F and the traffic is very slow. It lasted for about 15 to 20 minutes, of course the battery had only 2 bar left. After the traffic jam, the battery is charge quickly, but I realized that the EV will not turn on, or the car has only gas engine running. I can feel the acceleration is different with only gas engine running, not as smooth as normal. I got home, turned off my car. After two hours, I tried to drive it again, it's still the same. Until this morning, it got back to normal. During the whole time, there's no any sign showing there's any problem.

Prius (Gen 2) :: 2008 - Gas Gauge Reading Not Accurate / Stays On Full For Long Time

The gas gauge on my 2008 does not seem accurate. I had three bars left the other day and when I filled up it took 6.5 gallons. Normally with three bars it only takes 5.5 gallons. Also, it stays on "full" (all bars) a long time.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 - AC Stopped Cooling If Stop For Long Periods Of The Time

I am having issues with my air conditioning on the 05 prius. For some reason when I leave to go somewhere its fine, but if I stop for long periods of the time the a/c stops cooling, the fan is still blowing. Once i take off it cools somewhat better but still not cold as it should be.

I have already had the car checked for DTCs and there are none, plus I had the a/c vacuumed down and recharged to factory specs, it still has the same problem.

Prius (Gen 2) :: 2208 - Speedometer Backlight Doesn't Dim In Auto Light Mode

We've use the Auto position for he headlights most of the time since our 2008 was new. Not every time, but too often, the speedometer cluster lighting doesn't switch to dimmed setting when the headlights come on. It seems to happen most frequently when we are in a parade at night.

The backlight for the radio dims properly with the Rheostat, but not the Speedometer Cluster. To get it to work properly, you simply need to turn he headlights off and back on again. (or today, open the door). Sometimes the dim after a 5 second delay (after covering the sensor), and other times, they don't dim after a 20 minute drive in the pitch black.
