For months I've been hearing the sound of rushing air coming from the direction of the front passenger side door. I've been trying to ignore it, but it's been getting worse. Today I noticed what appears to be a narrow gap between the rubber stripping and the front windshield near the wiper blade tip. Could that be where air is leaking in?
View 4 RepliesI have a rushing water sound (i.e. air in the cooling system) coming from under the dash (I'm sure its the heater core) every time I slow and corner, or accelerate from a stop.
When I open the radiator when its cold, it's low. I pour in about 3-4 ounces to fill it. When I squeeze the heater hoses with the cap off, I get bubbles, and have to add a bit more. This seems to solve it for a little while, but only until the car is warm enough that the thermostat opens up. Then... air bubbles rushing through again.
The engine never overheats, and the heater works perfectly. The overflow is within the normal area, and never seems to go up or down. Otherwise I might suspect a small leak in my head gasket or something.
I have tried to "burp" the system multiple times. I'm not sure I'm doing it right, but then again it's not that hard to do, right? Anyway.... no dice, I still get the noise.
Today I am getting a "squeaking rubber" sound coming inside the car from the steering wheel when its turned. Not from under the hood! We had a sudden temperature drop over night but this has never happened before. Car has over 180K on it. Power steering fluid is between the lines. I don't see any plastic that is rubbing.
View 2 RepliesI got my 2015 GTI APR stage 1 tuned at about 1100 miles, was very satisfied with it. Now at about 1400-1500 miles, I've begun to notice a "whooshing" type sound, as if air is being sucked in...louder than I ever remember hearing it. It happens when cruising and gently stepping on the gas. I'm wondering if it is a leak somewhere. It doesn't seem to happen all the time, but when it does, it is quite noticeable. I would think that if it were a leak, it would be happening all the time.
It almost seems like there is a slight loss of power as the turbo kicks in (less punchy?), but that might just be in my head. The car still gets up to high speeds very quickly.
Before I take my 3 month old T2 in for service AGAIN this Saturday. The more informed I am when I walk up to the service counter, the better.
When I make a hard left turn (more than 90 degrees), I now hear a sound from the front left wheel area. It sounds sort of like the sound a plane makes when flying overhead. It's sort of like something is rubbing.
This started all of a sudden last Thursday. I thought it would go away. It doesn't sound normal and it doesn't happen when I turn right. It doesn't affect my steering. I don't recall hitting anything (note I sait recall).
Obviously, I got out of the truck and examined the entire area but I don't see anything unusual. I drove around in circles with my head out the window trying to figure this out.
My 2005 Santa Fe w/ 2.7L V6 started a strange symptom recently. Not always but often after its been turned off for awhile when I turn the key to the on position you can hear a fairly loud rushing noise while you inside the vehicle. With the heater/blower/radio and everything else turned off you can hear what sounds like fluid rushing or growling noise when you turn the key to the on position before starting the engine. It times off after a few seconds about the same interval as the fuel pump run time. It sounds just like fluid gushing and everyone inside the cabin can noticeably hear it.
Now I realize the the fuel tank and the fuel pump assembly are positioned under the vehicle in the same area as the back seat and I believe the access plate to the fuel pump assembly is directly under the drivers side backseat's bottom cushion. So it makes sense that any noise inside the fuel tank would be noticeable from inside the cabin. So far the vehicle has no drivability issues. But intermittently after the vehicle has been off for awhile the noise reappears at key on position. It sounds as if when the key is turned to the on position the fuel pump priming is causing turbulence and flushing fuel around in the tank. Yet it starts and drives normally. I've had this vehicle since it was brand new and I know of many issues that these Santa Fe's have but this new to me.
About 10 inches of the rubber around the windshield is becoming detatched. It looks really ugly and I have unsuccessfully tried to glue it with loctite...
View 7 RepliesI was cleaning my car this weekend and found that the rubber seals around the lower corners of my windshield were dry cracked and rotting.
Car is only 4 years old, seems unacceptable for a Lexus or any car for that matter.
When I turn on windshield defogger no air coming to defrost windshield. Air is coming fine from other vents. Is there a fuse I need to check or some other issue?
View 19 RepliesTitle pretty much says it all. There's a piece of black foam that appears to be slowly coming further out from where the windshield meets the dash. It's happening in two different places, but appears it may be one long piece. What is the purpose of this foam? Should I be concerned? Concerned enough to take it somewhere now, or just point it out at my first maintenance appointment?
View 4 RepliesToday I have noticed that my windscreen won't defogged. Normally it will just takes 30-40 seconds for it to clear. It seems the air that blow to the windshield has blocked or it won't channelled the air to the windshield vents. I tried to feel the air at the windshield vents, but couldn't feel anything. The air seems to comes from the front and the legs only no matter what button/switched pressed. I think the air conditioning amplifier may be faulty. I am thinking of replace it. I have searched the internet, but so far I cannot see any tutorial how to replace it.
View 8 RepliesI have a noise coming from what seems like the front windshield area. It sounds like when you have a balloon full of air and open a small hole and let it out. That loud squealing noise that it makes is basically exactly the same as the noise I am experiencing.
It happens when I'm going 70mph in high winds or over 80mph without high winds. And when it happens it's constant.
I talked to the dealership and they told me it's fine... mostly because it happens randomly and it's hard to replicate unless you go 90 it always happens but they obviously aren't going to test drive my car going 90mph to find the noise.
I just noticed this happening on my wifes car the other day. It almost sounds like the windshield wipers are on high. Here is a link to the video where you can distinctly hear it. Also is that the inverter whining over there in the background? That's normal right?
View 15 RepliesWhen my xenon lights are on they throw a shadow out to about 20 feet in front of the car. This is on a golf 2010 TDI.. It is a narrow shadow angled to the right and one to the left.
Is there something wrong with my Lights or do I need to change setting somehow? They are plenty bright but it is odd the lighting in front has this marking in it. BTW the fogs are not on nor does putting them on change this.. Noticed this on low beams and perhaps on high as well..
I have an intermittent brake noise, which sounds like rubber rubbing against rubber. There is no discernable effect on the brakes, pulling, etc. My mechanic can find noting wrong with the brakes.
View 5 RepliesAbout two weeks ago I changed the haldex fluid at 61K. I just drained the fluid and then filled it with the new stuff from the tube. I did not open the check plug. (I changed the fluid and filter at 40k and didn't open the check plug then either.)
Early this week I noticed a wet spot on the garage floor. There was a fluid drip coming out of the rubber stopper near the rear driver side jacking point. Last night I pulled the rubber plug and cleaned the fluid residue as much as possible. Today, I drove the car to work and put a clean white frisbee under the car to catch any drips. There were just a few drips in the frisbee at the end of the day. I compared the drip to the haldex fluid that was drained out a couple of weeks ago. It appears to be the same, but I'm not sure.
I'm dreading what it might mean if the haldex system is leaking, and I don't want to drive the car with low fluid. So I jacked the car up on all four corners, opened the check plug and a 1-2 ounces of fluid drizzled out. From what I can tell by the wet spots on the garage floor, less than an ounce has dripped out so far. (Also, I started the car and put it into 1st gear and all four wheels spun...so at least I know the haldex is still working.)
If the system had too much fluid, could it have blown a seal someplace..
Over the past 6 years, searching for this problem--burning rubber smell coming from the heater in y 2003 Baja. Not so bad if the re-circulation is on, not so bad outside the car, can be smelled beneath the hood, but unbearable inside. It isn't plastic, oil, fluid, gaskets, wiring, it's rubber, like burning tires. Was barely noticeable when I bought the car 6 years ago, making me think it was just the tires, but it has gotten worse and worse and worse. Sometimes it takes 50 miles to happen, sometimes two, but when it does, I have to open the windows or shut off the blower.
View 10 RepliesAt low speeds - Like when I go over the soft-curb at the end of my driveway, I get a rubber seals making a squeaky (from friction?) sound when ever tire goes up or down the curb.
Or in a parking lot with uneven surface - I get it then too.
Just very annoying - but luckily no noise while driving the speed limit...
I never had a car that did this. Been driving VW's since 1986.
Today I noticed a strong burning rubber or plastic smell coming out of the right rear wheel well. All other wheel wells did not have this odour.
We had a bout of freezing temp's here recently and some snow, I'm wondering if the brake on that wheel may have seized slightly through the all wheel drives tourque vectoring or through parking brake use.
I'm going to drive it to the dealership tomorrow without making an appointment in hopes they will look at it right away as making an appointment this time of year is probably going to take forever.
Something I might be missing or can do?
When I drive home from work at night I see a thin white smoke come from the right side on my hood. (Headlight area) I open the hood and I can't pin point it....smells vaguely on burnt rubber. I am new to a TDI so maybe I'm just being an idiot, but what is it? I drive spirited on the way home, but dont floor it. I do have one hill thats pretty steep I usually charge up...(fun to burn the rice rockets who struggle!) I thought maybe parking brake? Its only got 750 miles on it, so maybe its oil burning? 2006 v10
View 24 RepliesMy 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 with diesel engine, intermittently makes a noise similar to the sound knobby tires make. It also sounds similar to the exhaust brake, but louder. A vibration accompanies the noise. Two mechanics (one a tire expert, one at a Dodge dealer) test drove it and examined it on their racks and said it's the right front wheel bearing/hub assembly. I replaced that, despite not hearing or feeling any problem when rotating the wheel by hand. I've examined all tires and turned the wheels by hand while listening for odd sounds or roughness, and examined all drive shafts and joints which have not apparent problem, to no avail. When this issue first started, I heard a sound like rubber squeaking while driving at very low speed, especially in reverse.
