On my MPG display if I push the steering wheel button once, I see actual MPG and the numbers jump all over the place depending on how I am driving. Push the button a 2nd time I see avg mpg, push it a third time and I see range how many more miles I can go.
If I push the button a 4th time I see "- - -?".
My prius 2008 94k miles makes this strange noise from time to time, randomly. What it might be?

At the first start of day when I pressed on brake pedal and got the green light on power button as usual I pressed power button and never got ready condition, trying to figure out what is happening I have had this condition occur almost every morning (outside air temp around 40 degrees F) also when I went to train station to pick up my daughter I shut off for about ten minutes and it happened again.
My 05 has a problem with the recirculate and defrost buttons on the wheel. The recirculate button will sometimes toggle the MFD between the consumption screen and the energy monitor screen like the info button does and won't change the recirculate light on the dash at all. Sometimes it will do nothing, and other times it works normal changing from outside air to recirculate. Also the defrost button will sometimes turn on the windshield defroster with 1 push then turn on the rear defroster with a second push and both will go off on the 3rd push.
Other times both defrost buttons will do nothing or work normally. When the wheel buttons are acting up the MFD will control both the recirculate and defrost functions normally so I don't think the MFD is the problem. The 12 volt battery has been checked and is good at 12.4 volts and there is no malfunction lights or codes set in the system. All the other buttons on the wheel function normally. What to check?
On Monday evening my wife left our 2010 Prius Gen III without pressing the "off" button. She took the keys with her and she claims that she locked the car.
On Wednesday morning I noticed that the dashboard panel was switched on and I deduced that the Prius has been running all the time, with the ICE engine kicking in now and then to keep up the Hybrid battery level. A quick call to my dealer confirmed this, and also the fuel consumption average was in line: 14 l/100 km on a 20 Km trip (my average is 3.9 -4.2 l/100km...).
I was very surprised to discover that the Prius does not switches off when the key is removed (i.e. taken far away from the car). This seems to me a sort of engineering flaw.
2005 Prius, 50K. Newly purchased two weeks ago. Last night, driving into my garage with the ICE off, noticed a noticeable electric or electronic-sounding hum from the engine compartment. With the hood up and looking toward the engine from the front of the car, noise comes from the right side of the engine compartment, to the right of the inverter cover.
The noise, a loud hum, appears when pressing the Power button and the brake pedal. It also appears when pressing the Power button twice without pressing the brake pedal. When starting up the car, the hum lowers in pitch significantly (though not in volume) as soon as the Park button is pressed.
When I bought the car, I brought it in to the dealership for a complete checkup. They replaced the inverter coolant pump under the recall notice. Don't know if that's significant. I opened the coolant reservoir cap last night with the motor on, and noticed movement inside, so it appears to be working fine.
I have noticed that when pressing on the brakes at 50 MPH and higher my steering wheel starts vibrating and it feels like the car is being tugged a little to the left. This started a couple of weeks ago, what might be causing this?
View 14 RepliesI Learned on a Toyota Avalon web page that you can force your audio system to reboot itself by pressing the power button for three seconds. On the Avalon, it only works on the "Limited" levels. I tried it tonight on my Prius Four and it worked. Great to use when your audio gets "confused" and you just want to clear it and start over.

I turned the "Key System with Elec. Key" setting to off.
Now I cannot turn the Power on in the car. I can unlock/lock the car using the buttons on the key FOB.
But when I press the Power button with my foot on the brake, all I get is the red "no key" security indicator on the display.
The display it's always on when you drive.I do not have a navigation system and sometime I don't want to listen to music while I drive.The Manual won't say anything about it,you can push the power off for the CD but then the display stays on.This is the first car that I own that you can't shut the display off complete.

Is it there on all vehicles, but non-functional in some, or did I luck out? Hoping that maybe VW was trying to make up for the fact that I didnt get the sun shades, the hatch assist, etc.

I remember when I test drove a base model Treg the salesperson was showing me this using the thumb wheel he was changing radio chanels. For some reason I can't do the same. View 11 RepliesSo I have a 2013 Elantra and I have noticed that after hanging up from calls from the Bluetooth using the Red Button on the steering wheel that is it becoming stuck. I can pull it back to its regular position and some times it will spring back with a slight click noise. Can the dealer fix the one button or will they need to replace the entire wheel?

View 2 RepliesThe owner's manual for my 2012 Toyota Camry does not give a very good description about what the MODE/HOLD button on the steering wheel is for. At first, from what I had read in the manual, I thought it was like a mute button for the radio, cd, etc. when I wanted to use my hands free cell phone. When I first tried to do this, it took me a while to realize it but I was actually muting my cell phone.
View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a used 2010 GTI with the Autobahn Package, leather seats, Nav, the 510 nav/sound system unit etc. The steering wheel has the button on it that would normally be used to control phone or sound system functions by voice, but when I press it, it acts much like the phone button on the bottom left of the radio/media unit - ie. it mutes the radio, but doesn't do much else. I just wanted to check if that is normal behavior or if the fact that I have that button on my steering wheel mean that it is supposed to function?

View 4 RepliesI noticed today that my prius with less than 5000 miles has a strange wheel squeek. It almost sounds like a warped rotor but I was really careful breaking it in. I cannot hear it at all with the windows up but with them down I hear it whenever the car is moving even when I am not braking. The strange thing is when I am moving very slowly the squeek is longer. It lasts 2-3 seconds between intervals when I am going like 1mph ot less and gradually the intervals shorten as I go faster. I could still detect it at like 30mph.
