My 2003 santa fe has Issues w the speedometer. It works on and off, specially when going over 65mph.
What do I need to do to fix this problem? Is it a DIY fix?
We have an intermittent (now more regular) issue on our 2005 SF of the instrument cluster (tachometer, speedometer, gas gauge, temp gauge) sitting at zero - no motion whatsoever. In the summer months, the gauges came on after a while of AC being on, which I thought odd. But it just happened here in October (and the temp is just around 5C/41F) so a temp issue is unlikely. No OBD codes that we know of, all the fuses are fine, and while we did have a PCSV issue earlier this year, it did not seem to affect this particular issue with the gauges.
Threads such as the one below seem to say that it is the speedometer that is wacky... 01 Santa Fe Speedometer Not Working! , and the general solution to the problem/issue is to replace the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) and associated gear mechanism. And on a different thread, Input Output Speed Sensors , it was suggested that the problem could be addressed by changing the input and output sensors.
This morning my speedometer started behaving erratically. The needle would swing plus or minus 10 miles per hour. driving home from work eventually it would not respond at all. I also noticed when I attempted to use the cruise after that it was not working either. I'm thinking these issues are connected. Do i need to replace the speed sensor that is on top of the transmission?

View 11 RepliesI own Sta Fe 2014 DM CRDi 2.2L diesel engine automatic transmission. Recently I am encountering a problem on my unit, firstly the ABS, ESC, and Hill descent alarm indicator shows on my dash brought it to Hyundai and they replace wheel hub assembly on the rear right wheel. after a week it goes lit again but doesn't stays long it disappear right now it happens from time to time only. Secondly my cruise control wont engage the light stays on but could not keep the speed, Ive check the brake lights they are not busted. The service technician doesn't now what to do and no error code showing on the computer. Last is during start up transmission on neutral or park position the speedometer fluctuates then warning light on ABS, ESC appears.

View 1 RepliesAbout a week ago my 2002 santa fe suddenly lacked performance and the check engine light came on . At the same time I noticed the speedometer stopped registering. I later discovered the poor performance was due to the fact that the vehicle was in 3rd gear "limp" mode. The code generated is 1602 "failure to communicate between the ecu and transmission control module". At this point I hoping its just a faulty speed sensor that's causing the problem and not the transmission control module.
Does it indeed sound like a bad speed sensor or does it sound like a faulty TCM or could it be a break in the wires between the ECU and TCM? Also, is it safe to drive the vehicle in limp mode until i replace the part later this week?
How to fix a speedometer reading fluctuation? When I am driving about 45 mph the speedometer will drop to zero (RPM does not change) and then will bounce. Some times the speedometer will remain at zero other times it will bounce back to indicating speed.

The picture attached is a picture of the sensor. What this sensor is called? Whenever I look up speed sensor or speedometer sensor it shows me something completely different. This one looks like it connects to the transmission too.
my speedo doesn't work but, all the other gages do. I just replaced the front hubs, abs sensors, ball joints etc... I put a new sensor in the rear end this morning and still nothing isthere a fuse tied to this somewhere? am I missing something? it's a 5.4l with a 4r100
View 8 RepliesI have a 2003 santa fe and the blinkers are not functioning but the hazard lights are working fine. I checked the fuse and that is fine. Is there someway I can take apart the handle assembly where the switch for the blinkers are? Also, sometimes they would work and other times they wouldn't so that seems like a loose connection somewhere. The indicators for the blinkers on the dash do not work either so there has to be a problem giving power to the switch.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2001 F250, 5.4, 4X4. My ignition key stuck in the start position and when I pulled it back to the run position, everything seemed ok. As I started down the road, my speedometer stopped working and my overdrive light was flashing. Also my turn signals had stopped working and my A/C clutch didn't engage. Figured I burnt a fuse. I looked in both the under dash and power distribution box and all seemed well. I checked the fuse for the turn signals/flasher and it was fine. The flashers worked. Thought I might have fried something so I replaced the ignition lock and switch. Also my service engine light came on throwing a code for the vehicle speed sensor.
Looking for solutions on this forum and the internet, I learned that the turn signal switch could have gone bad and the VSS sensor is on the top of the rear dif and an easy fix. Well replaced the sensor but nothing changed. So I went back to the fuse box. Examined every fuse, big and small and I found a 10a with a small space. This was #24 under the dash. From the manual, "#24, 10A, A/C clutch, Blend Door Actuator, Trailer Tow Battery Charge Relay Coil, Four Wheel Anti-Lock Brake System (4WABS), Turn Signal." Replaced it and everything went back to normal. Turn signals work, A/C clutch works, no flashing overdrive light and speedometer works. All from a 10A fuse. If you have any of these symptoms examine all the fuses carefully. There's a 20A fuse for turn/hazard lamps and this other one buried that's only 10A.
I have a 2006 2.7 gls awd santa fe ,the alternator bearing went bad and got stuck took the alternator to a repair shop to get fixed, put it back on the santa fe the alternator worked just fine now i have the radiator fan and ac fan not working, I turn the ac on and none of then work I wait for the car to heat up and nothing happens I check the radiator fan by connecting it directly to the battery and it works fine ,i have swap the horn relay with the radiator relay and it is working fine. I will check net the fuses, then the thermostat and later on the temperature sensor.

View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a used 04 3.5 liter SF. I don't think the AWD system is working. The car has a bit of an odd vibration at 45 mph but I thought this was due to the new all terrain tires on put on the car. There are no check engine lights on in the car and it otherwise drives straight and well.
It just snowed here for the first time in CT this season. I took the santa fe out and tried to start on some hills and it would just spin the front tires and slide backwards. The rear end would not kick in at all. It didnt matter if I had turned traction control on or off. When I look at the snow there are only two front tire marks that spun down into the snow. The rear tire left not skid marks.
There are no strange sounds coming from the rear differential. I know the Santa Fe 3.5 use the Borg and Werner magnetic clutch system and is usually front wheel drive. Is it possible that clutch system is worn out or is it an electrical issue with the front not sending the rear a signal to engage the rear diff?
Replaced bulbs and checked fuses ... if u bump high beams they will flash ...
View 9 RepliesI am having a power steering problem with my 2006 santa fe, been going on for a couple weeks and I am stumped on what is wrong with it, what I noticed is turning to the left or right and very hard to turn and sometimes it will be fine and other times its the left or right.. What could be going on here? there is no leaks or noises noted, it has 242,000 kms on it. fluid is full but a little brown and smells a bit burnt. I know it will need a flush but would that be the solution or would it be something else?

View 2 Replies03 santa fe... During a stereo install the door panels were off and somehow we found a way to screw up the window switch. (the good new's is the stereo sounds awesome) and I can't pass it back onto the installer, he's my brother
all 4 windows stopped working, and of course, they are in the down position which complicates things just a bit
I checked the fuses but they seem ok at least on a visual, although I haven't eliminated that all together the likelihood that its a fuse, or multiple fuses is moving to the bottom of the list.
The window switch, it looks ok on a visual, anything obvious that I can check or look for ? No loose or crimped wires that I can spot.
If the switch itself somehow got fried I can get a replacement, but I'm hesitant to just go out and buy one right now (75ish + ship) and get it in the mail, to get the ball rolling, and god knows what the dealer would want for the part locally. I'll also check local salvage yard to see if at least I can get the part faster if it comes down to that.
Maybe when the new speaker wires were fished through the flex boot we disconnected or loosened the connector under the dash that goes to the switch ?
The rear wiper on one of my two 2004 Santa Fe has stopped working. Checked that the fuses are OK.
Then I swapped the wiper motor and then the control unit to the other Santa Fe & both work in it so are OK.
What else could be causing the problem?
