I have a small amount of play in my steering wheel. Very noticeable on the highway at high speeds. The steering wheel shakes in my hand.
1. Checked the tires for balance.
2. Checked the tie rods.
3. Brand new stabilizer bars on both sides.
Is there something I am missing or overlooked.

The car is starting to produce a heavy shake in the steering wheel when above 45mph up through highway speeds. The kicker is that the shake only occurs on-center, because turning the wheel just a few degrees off creates a relatively smooth result.
Checked the wheels for balance, tire wear [which is good, no cupping], lower control arm (LCA) bushings, and complete a lock-to-lock steering test on the ground to confirm steering rack mounting bolts are tight. What's the next pieces of hardware I'm needing to verify?
I have a 2007 Sante Fe Limited that has 93k on it. Within the last year I have noticed the steering wheel will shimmy when you apply the brakes at high speeds, it's slowly came to the point now that anything above 40mph will cause the steering wheel to shake while applying the brakes. I am guessing I have warped or unevenly worn front rotors. The car supposedly had a break job done at 74k and this started happening at about the 90k mark.

Second question, any tool list or required sockets sizes to complete a front rotor and pad replacement? I have a floor jack, jack stands, a set of 3/8 deep metric sockets. I also have a breaker bar. This is my only car so I want to make sure I have everything I need before I start taking stuff apart.
Got an issues with my 02 Santa Fe. Shaky steering wheel at all speeds during straight driving more than in turns. 130k miles on the vehicle.
The tires are worn, and need replacing. No missing wheel weights that I saw. No issues with braking.
At slow speeds it feels like the front end is swaying back and forth. I am planning to have the tires replaced, but I feel that this is more than just the tires.
I suspect ball joints / tie rods are the culprit. Is there a good way to check these components from home verses going to a shop and having them diagnose the issue.
With ball joints / tie rods, I am confident that I can change them on my own.
My accent just crossed 180K mark. From last year the steering wheel shakes quite a bit at highway speeds ,say 70MPH. It's especially bad when I accelerates . Took the car to a shop, they told me two things, the CV axle of passenger side needs replacement, and the wheel hub bearings are bad(both front wheels). They quoted me $200 for replacing the cv axle, and $400 for replacing both front wheel bearings. Since I don't even think the car worth $600 right now(given high mileage), I told them I'll just do the axle(I know how to do it myself but don't have the time, plus it won't be that much cheaper DIY anyway). They said fine, but if you don't replace the bearings you may have the wheel fly off one day and that's dangerous.
They replaced the axle, and the car drives a lot better now. There's still a little bit of shaking at high speed but 75% of that shake has gone away. My question is, does the worn out bearing causes car to tremble at high speed? I heard other people told me there should be a grinding or loud hawling sound if the bearings are bad, but I don't hear that. I searched the internet and some people say, to determine if the hub bearings are bad, just drive it for 10 minutes then feel the hub. If it's barely warm, the bearings are good. If it's warm to hot, then the bearings are bad. I felt it and it's warm, but not too hot to touch. I tried the rear wheels and those are barely warm indeed.
So from this method it seems the front wheel hub bearings are indeed bad. I wonder how long I can keep driving this without endanger myself. $400 is not cheap for this car and I don't have a machine to press in the bearings myself. I can disassemble the rotor and hub that's not a big deal, but I don't know how to get the old bearing out and the new bearing in. Is there a machine shop that just do the pressing? Or, is there any shop selling the hub assembly with bearing already in place? this way I just remove the old hub assembly and replace it with the new assembly, a lot easier. I searched the internet but can only find pre-assembled hub w/ bearing for the rear wheel of this car. I need the front ones.
Noticed the steering wheel shakes just slightly at highway speeds. Happens to me when I'm at around 65-70mph and above. It's just very slight, so I really wasn't thinking its an alignment issue at all. I didn't know if this was a bit normal for these B7s or what. I've had alignment issues in cars before and this just doesn't feel that bad, but its enough to give me pause.
View 7 RepliesI have an 05 Camry LE & when ever I'm on the highway going around 50-80mph & need to break my steering wheel starts to shake until I either stop or put my foot back on the gas. Last year my power steering rack & one of my motor mounts got replaced, & for awhile it stopped & figured because that was going out that's what was causing it.
Well about a month later it started back up & still does it, I've taken it to the dealership & have told them & they test drove it, felt the same thing I felt but didn't find anything. Is there anything else that could be causing it ? Earlier last year my bearings were lose in the front, and I managed to get my brakes stuck & had that all fixed & since then that's when it started shaking . I took it back to that shop & mention every time I go in for oil changes at my dealership, is there something else I'm not aware about that I should ask them to look at ?
My wife drives a 2010 Honda Civic LX sedan with about 18k miles. She mentioned that its steering wheel started shaking a couple of weeks ago when driving at about 60 miles/hour at the same streth of the road during her daily commute. She did experience the problem during rest of her drive at lower speed. I drive the car about once a week at lower than 45 miles/hour and had no problem. I have checked the tires and noticed nothing obvious.
View 1 RepliesI've been noticing my steering wheel shakes if i normally brake going on the highway at high speed. My friend said that it's probably your brakes and rotors. Get them replaced and resurface and that should fix the problem. Can i get some confirmation before i do this?
1. I just had my tires replace at 55k and bought this car new back in feb 09. it has 62k.
2. also i've been reading up on camries fail water pump. i'm thinking of doing this over the weekend or should i just wait until i notice some leaks?
3. lastly, any major thing i need to be aware of. i've done the normal engine oil and filter change, cabin and engine air filter change, that's about it. i hope these camries are bullet proof like the old school (92-95).
I am feeling a vibrating in the steering wheel in my SUV, particularly at high speeds (the highway). I just had front brakes replaced a month or so ago. But the tires I have were new a year and a half ago, I think. Is the vibrating a tell tale sign that I need new tires? Or is it something else? Could I rotate them and get more miles out of them?
View 5 Replies109,000 miles car shakes thru the steering wheel and the seat on highway driving from appox 60 mph and higher. Needed new tires anyways thought it was tire balance problem. Put on 4 new tires, road force balanced all four still shaking. Road force again, still shaking. So I am ruling out the tires. All front end parts are fine, rear end parts are fine. Struts have 30000 miles on them, but the strut bearings are shot. Alignment was done 12000 miles ago when I replaced the outer tie rod ends on both sides up front. Not getting any bearing noises with car on hoist and hand turning the wheels. Where to go next? I need to change the strut bearings out and do another alignment. Any thing else to look at? Just trying to get the ride back.
View 13 RepliesI noticed my Hyundai steering wheel was off centre about 20 degrees to the left so I took it in for an alignment. The toe was out and the inside left front tire was worn. The alignment is now spot on and I rotated the tires putting the slightly worn to the rear. When I accelerate now the steering wheel turns to the right. If I try to straighten the steering wheel while accelerating the vehicle veers sharply to the left. Odd is while accelerating it drives straight even-though the wheel is approximately 20 deg to the right now. When I let go of the gas and maintain constant speed the wheel straightens out by itself. When I first let go of the gas the vehicle will jerk to the right even though the wheel is straightening.
After this driving is ok - no pulling and drives straight. Only during harder acceleration does the wheel turn. I've had the Sante Fe since new and this is really off now. Has 170K km (100K mi). I know it is torgue steer due to some worn part or bushing but have not been able to diagnose easily. I replaced the lower tie-rod ends. Steering feels tighter but the bad torgue steer is still there. I am inclined to replace the lower control arm vertical and horizontal bushings. Ball joints seem ok when testing with pry-bar. I brought it back to the alignment shop and they verified the alignment was ok, everything was tight and could not identify any obvious issues with the suspension or steering components.
My car shakes a lot on high speeds and the other day i noticed that my passenger back tire is kind of tilted its not sitting on straight i tried to take it off and put it on again but it just doesn't sit on straight for some reason so i was wondering i have a 98 passat wagon 1.8t FWD... Do these cars need alignment in the back tires too or just the front ? Because someone had told me that the alignment could cause the back wheel to tilt is this true? Will alignment fix my problem ?

Engine light came on this year and now it has about 132,000K miles on it. time for a tuneup. what should I replace or do to it. Leaks oil a little from up under the engine somewhere, and the car shakes a bit at high speeds (120Miles/h). engine up front is kind of loud, sounds like air is leaking out up front somewhere when its running. I figured I could replace the air filter,valve cover, spark plugs, pcv valve, fuel filter, oil filter and change oil, and a good engine greasing. what else should I do? what else could I do. what else should i really do, I love the car, second one i have had of that year. first one was a automatic and the tranny went out.
View 4 RepliesMy 06 sonata's steering wheel recently started shaking when I am braking from speeds of 80+ also a little when going down really steep hills. This happened once before when I got new front tires because the tire shop didn't balance the tires correctly. I know it could also mean warped rotors but in my experience rotors only become warped when you drive them with really low pads. Btw the car has 46k miles on it, and it is a 3.3 liter v6 gls.
View 9 RepliesI just bought a 2009 Toyota Camry with 78K miles on it. Everything is great except at highway speeds it shakes and vibrates when braking. The higher the speed the worse it is. Steering wheel shakes as well. I pulled both front tires off and the rotors appear to be smoothe on both sides with no grooves, etc. However, I'm due for new front brake pads. There's some pad left but could that be why it shakes and vibrates when braking? How do you tell if rotors are warped? Rotors are smooth but could they still be warped?

View 2 RepliesI own a 03' 2.7 Santa Fe (2wd) and when I got home last night i noticed that she was smoking like crazy (not overheating). Opened the hood looked under the car and noticed some fluid spraying on the the exhaust and leaking down from there which was causing the smoke. I put her on jack stands and noticed what looks like to be some hard (i think pressurized) lines that are attached to a connector of some sort in front of the steering rack. What lines are these? Power steering? oil cooler? Transmission related? The fluid that is leaking looks like transmission fluid cause its reddish brown. Ive worked on a few other cars before but not too familiar with Hyundai. When i get home later I will take a pic of this area and post a picture. And it looks like its spraying from the connecting lines (maybe a crush washer gone bad? ) not sure. I can't seem to find any image of this area online either.

View 2 RepliesI've got a nasty groan and vibration on the steering wheel coming from my Steering Pump when I turn hard right or left. There seems like a little bit of oil around the pump and some traces of shiny metal (tiny sparkles) near the spline so I'm pretty sure the pump and pulley needs replacing.
View 1 RepliesMy 2003 Sante Fe (3.5L) steering wheel twitches right and left when driving. On hot days its much less than colder days. The drivers side tire is worn on the inside much more than the outside of the tire. The brake rotor towards its outside is silver, perhaps half an inch. The rest of the rotor towards the inner hub has a little surface rust on it as though the pads are not fully grabbing. The car has 45,000 miles on it.
