So, whenever I park the car after a trip it always leaks fluid when the A/C was on which I know is normal but now it seems to leak a lot more and I'm wondering if that's where all my coolant goes. Where exactly does it drip from from the A/C? Is that somewhere in the cowl?
View 8 RepliesI have an 03 Explorer with the 4.0 engine. There is a strong smell of coolant and the reservoir does go down slightly once a week or so. There is No Leak whatsoever that I see, I have checked under the hood, under the vehicle, under the dash, everywhere...nothing. Where is the coolant going? This seems to be a common problem, I work at a quick lube and almost all of these explorers are low on coolant when they come in.

I looked under the car today every hose is dry to the cooling system, so I thought look where the heater core is, everything is dry there too. No sign of Head gasket leak either. I just can still smell it, and still losing some but it is very little. What should I look for next?
View 2 RepliesI can see no sign of oil leakage or oil burning. The car runs great, about 159M miles. Yet, it goes through 4 qts of oil every 1000 miles. If you don't check it frequently, it suddenly is 'dry' and takes several quarts to bring back on the stick to full. There is a little puff when first starting of light smoke, then nothing out of the ordinary.

Last week I checked my transmission fluid and it was very low. I added fluid and checked it the next day and it was low again. I noticed trans fluid on the front of the pan so i went out and bought a new trans filter and a new trans pan gasket and replaced them, sealed and bolted the trans pan back properly, and added the fluid. I thought that this would fix the leak but I see that the pan is still leaking from the front of it.
I have a 2000 intrigue (w/ a 3.5), it is leaking tranny fluid pretty bad. I cleaned under the tranny to see where it might be leaking and I was hoping it was the tranny pan, but it is not. where else would it be leaking? it looks like its possibly coming from the passenger drive axel. how hard is it to fix it? I keep adding fluid so I dont wreck my transmission but this cant go on for ever.

I am losing fluid in the resevior and there is a mess at the bottom around the steering box, lines and sway bar and it's hard to find the origin. it is not leaking at rest with or without the engine running. What are the more common leak points in this system?
View 6 RepliesIt looks like I have a small leak under my 2001.5 Passat. It is a yellow fluid. I just had my engine light come on but it has since gone off. Whether or not its an easy enough fix to do myself. Very Little actual fluid comes out and if I had not seen it in the snow I would not have noticed.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 Chevy Malibu, V6, 3.1, auto, 140k miles. Car started out with code 0420 with no noticeable symptoms, but then added code 0303 (miss fire cyl #3) with loud knock (mostly after warmup) and loss of power under load. Now internal loss of coolant (no puddles or external drips). Changed plugs and wires - no change - all plugs looked good with no sign of contamination. Questions - if this is a valve/piston/lifter problem (which would explain the knock, miss-fire and loss of power), why would I get the loss in coolant? If the loss of coolant is fouling plug #3 (which would explain the coolant loss, miss fire and loss of power), could that give me the loud knocking? I don't see how a valve/piston/lifter issue would cause a leak in coolant but I also don't see how a coolant leak into cyl #3 would give me such a loud knock. Do I have two different problems? If it is a leak into cyl #3, is there any way to tell if it is the intake manifold gasket (which leaked before and was replaced five-six years ago and which I could do again if I had to) or a blown head gasket (which I don't think I could fix or afford to get fixed)? Engine will occasionally get hot (but not overheat).
View 7 RepliesSo I've been noticing my power steering in the reservoir has been going down for quite some time. Now its more noticeable than ever. Just about a month ago I topped off the tank to the "max" line and now its at the "min" line. I also notice the fluid on the garage floor. I've always had a lot of grease (I assume the fluid) all around the body and under the reservoir under the hood. It seems to be leaking from the hose where it connects to the actual reservoir. Maybe the clamp is bad or something.

View 2 RepliesMy 04 has a leak in the wiper fluid system, after running the wipers with fluid, the reservoir leaks and goes bone dry. The rear window never receives any fluid but the windshield receives its normal amount with no noticeable drop in pressure.
Here's the weird part, there are no visible signs of a leak. I poured 3 liters of water and watched it all drain, but there was no water underneath the car. My car is sitting on a slight decline in the garage with the nose slightly higher than the rear of the car.
I pulled the reservoir out and it is not cracked, the leak appears to be somewhere else and it seems to be collecting. I even moved the car and didn't see a puddle of water. What might be happening or where I can look to find anything? I haven't taken it to the dealer and would prefer not to....
Bought a 1988 Toyota Celica GT Convertible. I am losing coolant. So far I have done the following: used a leak down pressure tester that shows I have a leak; looked under car for leak and didn't find one, put UV test fluid in radiator, doesn't show any external leaks and doesn't detect any coolant in exhaust; there is not coolant dripping from the heater (passenger side floor); the car does not overheat - the temp gauge shows it in the middle; the car runs great; just had emissions tested and passed with flying colors.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2006 Prius. I must admit that I've never been satisfied with the A/C performance, but now I'm even less impressed.
I had the A/C system serviced at an "after market" place as our dealership calls them (about 2 weeks ago). They added just under a half pound of coolant, oil, and UV dye. The system was much improved after the "after market" shop serviced it and stayed that way right up until it stopped cooling. Two days ago, the A/C stopped cooling and I'm in town so I stop by the dealer. They do the same basic checks I did with the same results - checked the fuses-OK, checked the lines and connections with a UV emitter-OK.
They evacuated the system - removing 0.16 pounds of whatever was left in the system - and recharged the system with 1.06 pounds of 134a, etc.
Neither of us could detect a leak, assuming there was actually dye in the system.
There is no problem with the compressor .
They see no other issues with the A/C system, it was just out of coolant.
Where did the coolant go and why is there no visible evidence of a leak?
Aside from monitoring its effectiveness and checking for dye leaks, is there anything else I should check?
Should the sight glass have enough dye exposed to detect inside the system with the UV emitter?
What should I see (or not see) in the sight glass?
Just had to replace the steel line that runs from the motor to the firewall with a rubber heater hose due to the steel line rusting through and spraying coolant around. (i left a steel section above the head along the firewall due to heat concerns. I refilled the system through the reservoir but I hear coolant sloshing around in the heater core and the low coolant light is popping up.
The coolant is not low in the reservoir but I really do not feel like the lines were filled when I added coolant to it after the repair.
The temp sensor indicated the car was running normal temp range and the car ran fine when I gave it a 6 mile test drive following the repair. No leaks in the new hoses.
Tranny fluid spews out pretty good underneath. Is it likely a broken hose? Where do I start?
View 3 Repliesjust found out about this a few days ago. It seems that the leak is between the fluid container and the tube. I just used some zipper to tighten up the connector. Where to buy this tube and the steering wheel fluid, and how much are they? My car is a LE V6 2007.
View 13 RepliesJust checked out at 2003 V6 LE with 120k miles for $5500. Car seems to be in excellent mechanical condition but I did notice quite a significant power steering fluid leak, seems to be coming from the reservoir. I see that there are two hoses for about $80 each listed on Partsgeek.
Is this a common problem, can the clamps just be tightened, Could it be the reservoir it's self or even the pump too high a pressure?
Seems to be quite a lot of fluid running down the side of the car but after taking it for a test drive I didn't see any signs of it squirting out so perhaps it's a slow leak and been leaking for a while.

Noticed small puddle of coolant under the car - then noticed overflow empty and radiator a little low on fluid. Noted some coolant below the thermostat.
After filling back to proper levels, ran engine for a while with no apparent leaking. Took a couple of short trips and inspected after each trip and no leaking noticed.
Checked several hours later and noted coolant below thermostat housing and on ground. After a couple more trip noted coolant level dropping again.
What would cause fluid to leak after engine shut down? Could be coming from another location, but my attention is on the thermostat at present.
A couple years ago noticed the coolant + inverter reservoir was on the low side. Took it to the dealer who pressure tested it and didn't find anything wrong, added a bit, and said good to go. Roughly 55,000 miles.
Today at close to 85,000 miles the coolant in both the radiator tank and the inverter is again touching the "L" mark. They were filled up to the middle/almost topped off after the dealer visit.
Just curious if others have had this issue and/or where to look. I haven't touched the coolant since purchasing at 42,000 miles in 2011.
This is the only issue I've had with this car so far. But it scares me, as coolant loss can be a big deal! Something as small as this isn't as concerning unless it's leaking some place I don't know about, or being consumed in the engine.
