My alternator went out , don't have the cash to pay a mechanic to do it for me. How to go about this the best way??!
Noticed that strange rattling sound upon starting up ?? I have a 2006 Sonata V6 . At first I thought it was normal I listened to other sonatas heard the same thing, but I don't think its normal googled it found some info but no clear answer , any way to fix it?
I own a 2007 Sonata 2.4l GLS with 120,500miles on it. In the past three weeks (recently after oil change) its developed a clunking noise only when warmed up (about 40 seconds). I purchased this car beginning of August and it had no noise then. I changed the oil with 10w30 castrol hm oil (the dealer I bought it from stated they put in same viscosity although oil cap reads 5w20 manual says 5w30 is acceptable) . Ive had it checked out by mechanics who have no clue what it is and want to tear down the engine. The noise goes away if it revs a bit higher that 1200rpm and then cones back worse when revving down until idle where its not as bad again. I've changed spark plugs (they were factory anyways) and ran premium fuel and even bought a Hyundai filter afterwards hoping it would work but to no avail. View 18 RepliesI'm at my place in Florida 1,000 miles from home, and when I started the car in a mall parking lot, there was some grinding metallic noise for a few seconds and I couldn't get it into first or reverse and the clutch pedal was way down. I was able to get going in 2nd and eventually the clutch was back to normal and I could get 1st and R. What happened? Broke some fingers in the pressure plate? Seems to run fine now but have a 1,000 mile ride ahead in the morning.
View 1 RepliesI recently purchased a 2006 Sonata with 70k miles on it. The dealership said it had one previous owner, and was in great condition. I should've had it checked out before purchasing. Now that I've driven it a few weeks I've noticed the headlights dimming when I press on the break. My brother checked it out and said my grounds were all okay, but there was oil leaking onto my alternator. He said it should just be the valve cover gasket that needs to be replaced.
What is considered a fair price to replace it? I dont know how detailed he looked into it, but it is on the left side of the engine. I've read that's the cheaper one to replace, will they allow me to replace without replacing the right side? Also, Will that solve the headlight dimming issue?
I have oil in the vicinity of the alternator. What do you think it is leaking from and is it difficult to fix? It is a 2006 Sonata V6 with 105,000 miles on it. Runs great and I never have to add oil. I change it religiously every 5000 miles. I have always had all scheduled maintenance done. The oil buildup is worse right under the pulley in the dead center of the picture. It doesn't leak onto the ground.. just always damp with oil in that area. Also notice the power steering hose that is just outboard and below all the pulleys for the serpentine belt always looks like it has oil on it.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2009 Hyundai sonata 2.4, 5 speed manual, gls, how to change /replace the alternator in this car, it looks to be in tight qtrs.!, step by step instructions and or diagrams required., and can a bad alternator make the battery go bad /, I replace the battery with a new one and my dash light of the " battery" stays on most of time , now Oreillys tested my alternator in car and they say my alternator is now bad1, can both go bad at same time!, , and also my ESC light comes on as I start driving after I had just started the car, can this be also tied in with the "bad battery/bad alternator"...
View 7 RepliesI noticed quite a bit of oil on my alternator recently, and it looks like oil is leaking out of the sides of my engine. Does this mean that my valve cover gasket needs replacing and if so what should a mechanic charge for this i.e. how long should the job take?
View 1 RepliesI've got a 2010 base with the 4 cylinder. When you make a turn (mostly right, but sometimes left) through puddles the power steering and alternator temporarily go out. I believe it is a belt/power failure as a result of the water being splashed into the area - none-the-less, it's a potentially very dangerous situation.
I did a quick check and it looks like all the plastic is there and in good shape. I do realize there is an engine splash guard on this model and it is in place.
A footnote - the car did take a light hit in the front before I bought it. It was "patched" together and sold. They didn't do a terrible job (as it looks ok), but you can tell "things" aren't perfect.
Since the splash guard is in place - What should I be looking for?
What difficulties might I run into on switching in the HO alternator. Is it that hard to get the stock alt out/putting the serpentine belt back on once i get the HO alt in?
Any pictures or videos to make this job easier? The stock alt almost looks impossible to get out unless i remove the entire radiator.. Should I just bring it to a shop and have them install it?
I have 2006 - Toyota Camry LE and its AC light starts blinking in few seconds as soon as I start it. What could possibly be the cause of this issue?

What i have noticed is that the relay clicking in the CECM is no longer clicking, yet now i hear this knocking in the rear hatch area when i start it up after it sits overnight.
2001 Prius. Within 15 seconds of starting the engine, I captured the screeching sound from the engine bay. Noise went away after about 20 seconds. New serpentine belt and new 12v battery installed. Pass dealer 27-point check. Transmission fluid, inverter fluid, high voltage battery were replaced about 18,000 miles ago. Current mileage 174,000.
Noise is not from the serpentine belt. I attached a mp3 file of the sound. "2001 Prius Noise.MP3" ..... Which component is making this noise?
So tonight while driving home check engine light comes on. I get home shut the car off and start it up again, no check engine light but the car won't stay for more then 30 secs even if i give it some gas.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2006 Sonata GLS with the 3.3L V6 and close to 230,000 miles. A few months ago I noticed that my crank time at starting was longer than typically - it has steadily gotten worse.
Now the crank time is close to 8 - 10 seconds. (Which might not seem like much but trust me, it is).
I suspected that the fuel pump was faulty, however, once started - it runs great.
I put a pressure gauge on the fuel pump outlet and found that it only kicks the pump on when the car is cranking, the fuel pump does not kick on when the key is in the "on" position. Once the vehicle starts, it seems to be drawing fuel.
The pump has all sorts of pressure, I am not worried about that.
I decided to change the Fuel pressure regulator valve thinking that maybe it wasn't holding pressure - That didn't seem to do anything.
Do I need to change the entire Fuel Pump Assembly?
Usually in the morning after starting the car, when I put the car into reverse the car stalls. I start it up again and it works fine. It has been doing this for a few months. When I went to get oil change they said I needed to replace battery so I did. Problem is still there. It has done this twice when I try to take off from a red light. I have no check engine lights either. My car has 105,000 miles but cannot really afford to buy a new car at the moment.
View 5 RepliesI started having an issue when the weather changed here on the East this weekend. When I start my car in the morning the engine knocks for about 30 seconds and then stops. I also recently got an oil change at some local mechanic shop and wondered if that might be the issue. I checked the oil and it was stellar this morning but I'm not sure what kind they put in there. I would assume it's the required type.
View 5 RepliesTwo months ago I bought a used 2006 Sonata v6 with 54,000 miles. After a few hundred miles I began to hear a rattle on cold start that lasts approx 5 secs. I did my research and saw the TSB concerning the timing chain tensioners. The TSB instructs the dealer to turn the engine off after reaching operating temp then restart after 10 minutes. If there was no noise after the ten minute start then the car is operating normally. My car does not rattle after the 10 minute start up. I just can't see this as a normal characteristic. What could be causing this noise?

View 24 Replies2006 Sonata LX. It's only on a cold start up and lasts for about 30-45 seconds tops..and then it goes away. Car has 74k on it. Treated well. Only use synthetic oil and no check engine lights. Last oil change I put 5w 30 in it. I know it says to use 5w 20. Could this be the problem?

I paid heavy price on parts and labour but very disappointed after hear same noise again today morning which i was listening from one year purchase of this car... Sonata 3.3l v6 ....
