Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Oil Pan Leaking
Aug 2, 2013
Just brought my 06 3.3l into the dealer and they said the oil pan is not covered under warranty. It's clearly where my issue is - is it hard to change this oil pan on an automatic?

View 10 RepliesI recently purchased a 2006 Sonata with 70k miles on it. The dealership said it had one previous owner, and was in great condition. I should've had it checked out before purchasing. Now that I've driven it a few weeks I've noticed the headlights dimming when I press on the break. My brother checked it out and said my grounds were all okay, but there was oil leaking onto my alternator. He said it should just be the valve cover gasket that needs to be replaced.
What is considered a fair price to replace it? I dont know how detailed he looked into it, but it is on the left side of the engine. I've read that's the cheaper one to replace, will they allow me to replace without replacing the right side? Also, Will that solve the headlight dimming issue?
I've discovered a rusted hole leaking oil from the oil pan on my 2006 Sonata GLS 2.4L 4 cylinder.
Trying to find a replacement oil pan but I'm not having any luck online. The oil pan for the 3.3L is for sale everywhere, but not for the 2.4L.
Googling suggested the OEM part number might be 21510-25051 but I can't confirm that?
I have a 2010 2.4 with approx 36k miles on it. I started noticing oil spots in the garage so I got under the car and saw that the back of the pan was covered in oil. The oil was on the rtv gasket for the pan, the back of the motor was dry so I'm under the impression that the gasket has failed. I checked the filter, and valve cover, everything is dry, the motor is dry and clean.
My question is, is this covered under the 10yr/100k warranty? I would like to avoid having to pay the $110 diagnostic fee if its not covered, since it looks like a pretty simple job dropping the pan. But if its covered by the warranty, it would be nice not having to do the work my self.
I am the first owner, and I believe the 5yr bumper to bumper warranty has expired.
Found out my 2007 Hyundai Sonata V6 GLS needs a new brake line put in. The line rusted and all brake fluid leaked out. I am very surprised that after 7 years and only 103,000 km (about 65,000 miles) the car will need a new brake line put in already. All my other cars have been Japanese and have never experienced premature failure and replacement of brake lines.
Granted, I live in Toronto, Ontario, and this year has been a cold start to winter with lots of aggressive salting. It started to get a little bit warmer the last 2 days which probably accelerated the corrosion from the salt.
A year ago (to the day), my car (2006 Hyundai Sonata) died on me while I was driving it. My boyfriend came and gave me a jump. The car got home fine. The next morning, we went out to the car, and the battery had died, so we jumped the car again, and got to the battery place and bought a new battery. I was worried there was another issue with the car- but my boyfriend was all like "You are feeble woman who knows nothing about cars" (kidding, kidding) so I listened to him and drove the car off that afternoon. On my way home, car died again. So, this time, we got the car towed to a dealership to get checked out. Well, turns out the head gasket was leaking and there was oil in the alternator. SOOOO. The dealer replaced the head gasket for free because the car had a warranty on the engine, but we were SOL with the alternator. So, we bought an alternator from a friend, and had another friend install it for us.
Yesterday, I got out of work, and car wouldn't start. When my DF came to jump the car, he and I could clearly see the head gasket is leaking again and there is oil in the alternator. I have a couple questions that I need answered...
1.) What causes a leaky head gasket? My boyfriend said that either the engine block was warped or that the replacement they put in last year was faulty. Are there other ways?
2.) How the beep do you replace the alternator in the 2006 Hyundai? It is in an odd location and we don't have access to the person who did it for us last time, so I need to see if this is a job my boyfriend can do. He does work on his car all the time (an 87 BMW), but he's never done anything on this car besides change oil, etc.
A little bit about this car: We bought the car from a Hyundai dealer in June 2010. It belonged to one of the dealer investors, so it was in great condition. However, we think the car was in a front-end accident. When my boyfriend waxed the car awhile back, it was pretty obvious that the front bumper was replaced as well. The dealer refuses to give us any mechanical records about the car (will only give us verbal summary) ...
I noticed quite a bit of oil on my alternator recently, and it looks like oil is leaking out of the sides of my engine. Does this mean that my valve cover gasket needs replacing and if so what should a mechanic charge for this i.e. how long should the job take?
View 1 RepliesThe steering rack on my 2009 Sonata was previously replaced under warranty but now it start to leak seriously.from the two boots at the ends of the steering rack ends. Is it possible to replaced seals only where it leaks?
View 13 Replies2009 Sonata 2.4L ... About 60 000km ago, the complete steering rack was replaced under warranty. Now I notice the PS fluid going down in the PS reservoir. I checked for any loose fittings, all look OK. But I did notice PS droplets hanging from the steering rack boots. So today I replaced the PSF4 fluid with Amsoil PS fluid. I suspect maybe some seals are leaking. Any good product I can use to maybe stop the leaks?
View 1 RepliesI've started noticing oil stains on my garage floor lately that seem to be getting bigger and bigger within the past week. I got curious so I put the car on ramps and had a look. It looks like my oil pan seal is leaking, not just in one spot, but all the way around it. Car only has 23k miles on it. I'm supposed to drive a 7 hour trip Sunday morning so I don't have time to take it to the dealer. So now I guess I need to take an extra quart of oil with me just in case. I'm trying to give Hyundai a fair shot but these issues are getting old quick!
View 3 RepliesMy Sonata is abt 5 months old w/4000 miles. Recently I noticed noise coming from dashboard while turning and now I just noticed that the front passenger side floor is all wet! My question is, what can cause this much amt of water to leak inside the car?
View 25 RepliesI have a 2013 Sonata SE without about 41K on it. I got the oil changed back in May, and a few weeks after I discovered that it was leaking. I took it back to the oil change place and they ensured me that they cleaned up the mess they may have left behind. A month or two later, I believe the engine is still leaking. I've cleaned up two significantly huge puddles of oil, yet the dipstick says the oil level is right below the dot under the full mark. I checked to see if the oil filter was dirty, meaning the leak would come from there if the wrong filter was installed. The oil filter is clean.
There is also a clear fluid leaking out of the engine now too. I thought it was water, but it has a bitter taste to it. It may be the air conditioner, but it has never once spit out water like this since purchasing the car new in October of 2013.
My engine also gets hot much quicker than it ever did before. I can move the car a few feet after starting it up and it will go one notch below halfway on the temperature gauge. It has never exceeded this temperature, but it sure gets there quicker now after this oil issue began. I can also tell when the car is feeling a little sluggish in terms of acceleration, and right now, it's certainly feeling sluggish. The 2.4L isn't as peppy as it usually is.
I've been noticing an oil burning smell after driving recently, it's been going on for a few days now. My oil level is good, I have 8,500 miles on the car. Today I finally had a chance to look under the hood for any visible leaks, and I noticed some oil stains on what I think is the valve cover gasket.
2015 Sonata 2.0T ...
2006 sonata gl with 4-cyl engine. Car runs/feels fine. Installed HID kit a while ago (with harness) and no problem. Driving home late afternoon (with AC on hi) stopped on red light. Radio was on but NO HID lights on - then momentarily car stalls. Starts back up right a way and NO check engine light. Tried AC- works fine, turn the lights on (HID 35w slim balast), radio on - everything is fine.
My "suspect" is old battery (original!) and I think that for a short moment charging system (alternator) could not keep up/charge battery while car was idling with AC and radio on (hi load).
How long is original battery good for (5-6-...yrs)? Looked earlier at Everstart batteries (or was it Eveready brand?) made by Johnson. I could only find a few batteries but they were sitting on the shelf since last summer (sticker said made 07/2010 !). Are they any good?
So after patching my exhaust 2 times previously i finally gave in and decided to do it right this time....
I replaced the entire pipe from the cats up with a new piece that was fabricated to exact spec and no heat shield.
My car still sounds like its leaking from somewhere.
When I was using seafoam not too long ago, i notice that the car was smoking from the passenger side underneath the hood close to the back of the engine compartment...
Is it possible to get a hole in the manifold? or maybe bad manifold gasket?
I decided to check my engine's oil and do an oil change. I decided to also check out how my zip ties were holding up too. then i noticed this. This is right next to the oil pan Here"s a farther shot. Not sure where the leak is coming from.
View 8 RepliesHer 2008 Accent is leaking a thick oil from the top of the shocks. I noticed it when switching the summer wheels back on. The mileage is low at only 36000 Km/ 22500 Miles. Not a lot of use on them. I guess 8 years and the seals just can't seal no more. This car was well cared for since new.
The ride feels fine but I'll be looking for a sale on rear shocks.
My 2006 accent began having trouble getting up hills and getting up to speed..I then could not get above 20mph..I opened the hood and found oil coming out of the right side of the engine...at the seam not alot...Now ive needed a valve gasket replacement for awhile and had oil in spark plugs...what could the issue be..and could a bad valve gasket cause this...
View 4 RepliesHaven't had the engine cover off for about 25k now (cleaned it up under there last time I changed plugs.) Took it off today and noticed it's a little oily on all four sides around the valve cover.
Pretty sure I can account for the oil that's near the filler cap... I don't recall spilling enough that would completely go around the entire valve cover though...
But how did it end up so high on top of the valve cover on the corners? It's even a little wet looking on the back if you look hard enough..
I only have 4600 miles left of the 10/100 warranty so I'm glad I caught this and hope the dealer can do something about it... or are they going to tell me this a "normal" amount of seepage? I haven't owned a vehicle with plastic valve covers before so I don't quite know what to expect.
My girlfriend has a 2009 Elantra and recently she has been experiencing an issue where somehow water is leaking into the cabin. What usually seems to happen is after a strong rain storm she will enter the vehicle and will notice water on the rubber floor mats on both the Drivers and Passengers sides. No one has entered or exited the vehicle during these storms and the windows are all closed so there should be now way for water to enter the vehicle. Every time this happens it seems like there is an excessive amount of condensation at the top of the windshield, but like I said the vehicle has been closed so that much moisture shouldn't enter the vehicle.
We have taken it to the dealership and they say they have performed a water test and can't find anything, however, the last time we took it in and they couldn't find anything the car sat for most of the day and when we came to pick it up there was water on the floor mats which we then showed to the Service Rep and he couldn't explain how it got there.
I have an '09 Accent, with 102,000 miles on it, it is in good shape, and current on all its maintenance, however, i am leaking coolant via the radiator cap, and don't know why. It has been replaced twice, once by me, and once at the dealership after a pressure check confirmed i was not leaking anywhere else, ie: into the engine.
