I have a 1.5 year old Forester. I have rotated the tires twice now, and each time I notice some excessive tire noise after the rotation, for the next hundred miles or so. The tires look OK. Is this a sign that I need alignment? That is, the rotation is equalizing some uneven wear due to a misalignment?

I was riding in the front passenger seat with the window down, and noticed a strange "spritzing" noise coming from the passenger side front of the vehicle. The sound is very brief, about a second in duration. I heard this repeat several times as we went down the road, and decided to time it. It turns out that this sound occurs exactly every 33 seconds while the car is in gear going down the road! It sounds like a pressure relief valve going off....but what could it be?
View 2 RepliesI have a '05 Forester XT with 135,000 miles, I purchased the car new and have always performed regular maintenance and oil changes. The car is my baby.On a recent freeway drive I heard a "pop" followed what sounded like a shredding accessory belt. This went on for several miles with diminishing power. There was zero smoke from the exhaust. I managed to coax it into the nearest Subaru dealership. They diagnosed a bad AVCS solenoid, with P0011 error code. They charged me $2200.00 to change the solenoid and clean all the oil feed lines! While they were at it, I had them clean the banjo bolts to the turbo, as this had never been done. The engine was removed from the vehicle for them to complete the work.
Today I went to pick it up, it started right up and idled fine. When I pulled onto the highway and accelerated TONS of blue smoke billowed from the exhaust and it had zero power. Before this the car burned one quart of oil every 3,000 miles. I turned around and the car is now back at the dealership.I'm at a loss as to what to do. The car is not driveable at this point.I hate to point fingers, but what could the dealership have done to cause this excessive oil smoke? Again, the car NEVER smoked before the dealership got a hold of it.
My rear tires (Nokian) on my Subaru Legacy 1999 all wheel drive car are noisy and chopped after only 18,000 miles (tires were in front for 4,000 miles; at that point I had to get two new tires which were put in front). My mechanic does not recommend rotation so they haven't been rotated. No, I don't know why. So now they are chopped but have lots of tread.

I let my 6'2" tall son drive it part way home, and immediately he noticed that with the driver's seat bottomed out and the rearview mirror tilted as far up as it would go, he could still only see out the bottom two thirds of the back window. My Forester does have the mirror package option, but not sure if that changes anything.
View 7 RepliesEver since it started getting cold here in the Northeast (mid December ish) my tire pressure sensor light is on. I know that it may be necessary to add air during cold weather as the air in the tire can contract in the cold but the pressure is fine - I had my mechanic check it out. Light does go out when it warms up - at least above freezing - but comes back on again when it gets cold. Normally I spend most of the winter in Florida but am usually here (in MA) until mid Jan. and this has never happened in previous years.

View 24 RepliesI have a 2010 Subaru Forester that looses pressure in the front left tire much more quickly than the other 3 tires. For example, I just filled up all 4 tires to 33PSI, and when I checked it a week or two later, the front left was at 26PSI, while the other 3 were still at 32-33PSI. In the past, the tire pressure light has come on because the front left tire managed to get as low as 16PSI, while the other 3 tires were still at ~26PSI. Is it possible to have a small leak that leaks a couple PSI per week?

When I left the shop, I noticed a wobbly noise coming from the front when I was driving on the highway (40 MPH+). There is no vibration in the steering wheel, but the sound is pretty noticeable. It wasn't there when I got to the shop. I have my tires rotated every 3,000-5,000 miles. Is this simply from uneven tire wear?

Afterward I started to hear a weird noise from front tires, especially when I was driving slow on smooth roads, I can hear tires make a noise every spin. The noise speed up with the tire speed. I do the oil change and tire rotation every 3k for my previous car, never had any problem.
View 2 RepliesMy local dealer had a special on an oil change, tire rotations, and break inspection and my 2011 Elantra GLS auto w/ 20k miles was due so I took it in.
After I got it back I noticed a noise I had never heard before when reaching speeds above 45mph. The best word to describe it would be "thumping".
I figured maybe due to the rotation the tires might need to settle in, but I've drove about 50 miles since getting it back and the noise isn't even slightly going away.
The worse part is my avg. MPG went from easily/consistently being 40+ down to low 38/high 37.
Should I just give it some more time or start to worry the service guys messed something up? Until today it's been the perfect car.
My wife had the tires rotated on her 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe immediately before we went on a long road trip. After we left, we noticed a high-pitched whining sound at speeds of about 35-70 mph. It did not occur every time we hit that speed, and it generally seemed to go away after we'd been driving for about an hour.
We could make the noise stop every time by braking (as long as the pedal was depressed), or some of the time by turning (but only while the wheel was being turned). Occasionally, going over a particularly big bump could stop or start the noise.
My question is, what color is the car? Wait, no, my question is, is this likely to be the brakes, and if so, could it have been caused by the tire rotation?
I got my tires rotated about 2 months ago on my 2003 Toyota Corolla. It had about 88k miles on it at that time. Since the moment I drove out of the shop, there has been a noise from my driver's side front tire. There is no vibration in the steering wheel or on the floor and the noise only happens when the car is in motion. The timing and sound of the noise made me think it was caused by uneven wear pattern on the tires. But it's been awhile since the rotation and the noise has not changed (neither increased nor decreased). The noise is most noticeable when I'm driving on certain road surfaces, like very smooth roads. Since the rotation, I'd be surprised if I've driven more than 500 miles max. What this could be?
View 6 RepliesI have a 06' Ranger 2WD with General Grabber tires that have about 30,000 miles on them and still show significant tread remaining.
Within the last 2 months, I have experienced excessive tire noise - like I am driving a Humvee or something. Also, when I turned right or left the tires would make even MORE noise - it seemed to be coming from the right front tire mostly. 2 weeks ago I had the tires rotated and the sound seems to have reduced while turning but I still have the howling Humvee noise while driving down the road. There is no vibration coming from the wheel, so I don't think it's a balancing issue. Could it be the bearings?
I also checked the PSI all around and one tire does have a slow leak but I try to keep to topped off.
About 5K miles after putting on 18x8.5 rims with 235-40 tires noted bad reverberating droning tire noise and noticed stairstep pattern of excessive wear on inside tread blocks, equal on all 4 wheels. Is this just from going from OEM ET47 to ET35? Is camber adjustment indicated and is camber adjustable also on the rear wheels? (Of course, noise and reverberation gone when OEM wheels put back on)
View 5 RepliesI have had a Clicking noise on my 2000 x 4x4 since 6 months coming from the front right side tire noticeable over rough roads or over bumps and I went on a journey starting with ford dealer to almost all well recognized service centers and every body says your front suspension is ok and no one seems to know where it is coming from. I thought it was my hub bearing since it fails almost every year but when I was changing the bearing, I noticed a big Excessive play in axle.

Also I noticed oil mixed with grease the grease is prawny with a reddish sort of color or that is some thing else.

Any way after replacing the hub Bearing with a used one and butting every thing together I went on a test drive. Noticed that the vehicle drive line is not right the car seems to wonder and the noise still there so i didn't get far i came right back and park my x then a funny burned oil smell was present.
Is it some thing i did wrong or is it bad situation gone worst ?

I have a 2006 Subaru Forester with a little over 119,000 miles.
For the past several weeks, maybe a month, it has been making a weird noise... it comes from the 'engine' area... my husband thinks it might be a belt or something. Sometimes there is a burning smell, especially if we're on a long trip, going uphill... but the smell isn't always.
The sound sounds like... a remote control car that you push with your hands, instead of using the remote control. So it's kind of like a winding/whining sound... the sound happens when it is in park, and drive, whether I'm driving or at a stop.
my girlfriend has a 2002 forester and it is making a very loud noise while driving, sounds like a helicopter coming from the front/right. when you let off the accelerator it changes pitch and sounds like more towards the middle...checked for axle play or anything rubbing and things look ok...very confused, i'm a former VW tech and i've never heard this noise before

In case it does somehow matter, one of my knowledgeable friends asked me if it makes more noise when I turn, and the answer is no. Also, the noise does not come through the speakers, and from what I understand, that eliminates an alternator problem.
I have a 2001 Forester with approx. 130k miles 5 speed MT. Sometimes when making a low (5-15mph) speed right hand turn I hear a mild thunk thunk thunk thunk emanating from the front pax corner. The frequency seems linked to the speed. Curiously, I do not hear the noise every time I make a right and I have yet to notice a trend. My partner drives the vehicle more often than I but doesn't make any connections either.
I am relatively certain that we replaced that cv joint/axle this past June.
