I recently took a ride in the back seat of my 2010 Tiguan and noticed that the muffler noise is loud enough to cause headache on long rides. Also I noticed that the back seat vibrates a lot with any tiny imperfection on the road while the front seat you barely feel any vibration on rough roads. Is it only my car?
View 2 RepliesA few weeks ago I started to notice that the battery vent fan was turning on way more than usual. I've had the car now for five years (34K miles) and I've only heard the fan go on a handful of times, even in the hot Las Vegas summers. Once I really started to pay attention to it I noticed the noise only started once I hit about 30-35 mph and got louder as I went faster. As I slowed down, the noise would get quieter and eventually stop as the car came to a stop.
This week I caved and brought the car in to the dealer to get checked out and they did an inspection of the vent, fan and did a complete diagnostic on the hybrid system and batteries. I was worried about damage to the traction battery if the vent fan was malfunctioning or clogged. I'm out of warranty with no extended coverage so I was pretty shocked that the dealer didn't charge me a dime to do the tests. All the tests came back clean and they said all the systems tested above average and that the fan was operating normally so I shouldn't worry about it.
But the noise still persists and it's starting to drive me a little batty. It has never made this much noise before. Is there something else that could be going on that the dealer missed? Maybe the noise I'm hearing is something else and it only sounds like it's coming from that area?
Yesterday, after lifting back my rear seat backrest (40% section) I found out that the seat cushion moved forward and now I just can't find a way to put it back into place.
View 8 RepliesI've had this intermittent plastic rattle coming from the back end on bumpy roads at low speed. It's not the license plate and bracket (already fixed that one). Yesterday I happened to tap on the outside of my left tail light and heard it rattle with the same noise I'm hearing on the inside of the car. There is no rattle when I tap on the right tail light.

View 11 RepliesI heard a fan sound coming from the back seat after driving in traffic for 45 minutes. It was coming from the vent in the back seat. I didn't know that that vent had an electric fan. I assume it was the battery being cooled. I have never heard this sound before.
View 5 RepliesI got some manual of the internet on how to take out the bottom off the back seat. I got it off and installed the seat covers. How do I reinstall the seat. Instructions say attach rear hooks then push down to attach front. I attached the rear hooks but can not just push down on the seat to install the front. Sitting on it does not let it latch on. How to make the front latch on? This is on 2010 Prius. I got the u tubes going inside the white connectors but they will not latch on. Is there a trick? Seat is faom and Styrofoam so I don't want to just push down as I might break something. It's GT covers that I am installing.
View 1 RepliesSo I have every so often been hearing a grinding noise coming from what I believe is my back brakes (only does it when I brake). It isn't every time I brake but it does seem to happen almost every time I back up out of my spot initially and touch the brakes. It happens almost everytime I brake when driving at a reasonable speed. Tiggy has like 53,000 on it.
I have looked online and I just don't have the tools or access to a garage to do them myself so I think I am going to have to bring it in. Any rough estimate of what it is going to cost me? Also, I just bought this used on 7/5/14, I was under the impression in California that they can't sell a car with having brakes that are this worn.
I have a '10 IV and my drivers seat clicks in the middle of my back. It seems that it may be the top of the lumbar cushion going bad.
View 10 RepliesI just picked up my new Tiguan Wolfsburg yesterday. Beautiful! Drives wonderfully! But an odd thing, I noticed that as I brake, there is this thud, thud, thud noise around the back tires; almost like something is hitting the tire because the thud interval slows as the car slows. Then, when I got out after a 10 mile drive home, I noticed the heavy scent of burning rubber. Does this sound at all like a new car settling in, or possible issues already?
View 3 RepliesI got into our car (2013 RX 450h) and the seat was completely pushed back. I had been the last (and only ) driver of our car and had not adjusted the seat. I managed to reach the brake pedal, started the car, pushed the L1 seating position and my seat re-adjusted. I then put the car into Drive and when I stepped on the accelerator, it would not move.
The parking brake was not on, there was nothing obstructing the car. I turned it off, turned it on again and it was then fine. I had last driven it 3 days prior, the battery was fine, the outside temperature was registered as 30 degrees, so not excessively cold. We park in a garage although it is not entirely closed off from the outside air.
Experienced this with the car no moving despite being in drive and stepping on accelerator?
Seems like the black paint on the back of all our mufflers slowly but surely disappears. I'm guessing high heat - flat black (if such a thing exists) would be the way to go.
View 5 RepliesSo went to move my truck after getting 30 inches of snow last night, noticed yellow underneath my truck, backed up the truck and then noticed it was also dripping down off of the back of the muffler???? Moved my truck about 25 feet away and let it idol for 20 minutes as a plow moved the snow, kept checking but no more leak? Just checked again, and there is plain old water dripping from under the truck where the snow is melting but still no more yellow. Can coolant leak and rundown down the length of the exhaust and then collect and drip? 04 f150 fx4 5.4
View 1 RepliesFan is pretty clean. Before re-assembly it will be blasted with ~100 psi from an air compressor. Driving around like this is fine for a while to check diagnostics. How noisy is normal? This is the first time I noticed the noise.
We've owned this silver 2011 Gen 3 from new and it now has 37K miles after about 3.5 years. Today it's ~70F in Atlanta, so not hot compared to how it will be soon. We had the s/w recall done about six months ago and I've possibly not driven the car since (have a few cars).. my wife drives it most days and did not notice probably due to music but I felt it was very loud like there was hole in the side of the car (first thought was some vent to the outside became stuck open but the vent near the auxiliary battery is fine).
Is there a way to read the fan speed via Android Torque and Bluetooth OBD? Should I disassemble the entire length of the venting? Might there be something inside there causing a blockage?
I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport edition, automatic transmission, about 100k miles. Recently, when I turn on the engine -- sometimes -- it is very loud, and the car really shakes back and forth (in place) with the engine. It almost feels like the car is going to die. It feels like a very bad idle. If I wait, nothing changes. If I turn the car off, wait, and turn it back on, nothing changes. If I hit the gas, it continues, but decreases very quickly and by the time I hit a stop sign or red light (let's say 100 yards away), the car is more or less fine; no more fear that it's going to die, although there's still some noise that seems like it's coming from somewhere between the transmission and engine. I had the starter replaced last June (when it went kaput) and replaced the idle control valve a couple of months ago (the car kept dying when I came to a complete stop). I mainly drive it to/from work, about 50 miles each way, going 45-80 mph on a hilly freeway, and there have been no problems while driving.
View 2 RepliesI recently purchased a 2009 Camry with 95,000 miles. The Camry was purchased new at the dealer that I bought it from and all of the maintenance had been done at the same dealer so I have records of everything.
I did not notice any rattles when I test drove the Camry but driving it the next day I noticed two rattles. The first rattle was the deck area behind the back seat. That was easily fixed with some card board shims placed the right places. I will do a permanent fix later.
The other rattle was driving me crazy. It did not do it all of the time and to me it sounded "exactly" like it was coming from the area around or in the glove box. I took the glove box and the area around it off and could not find the source of the rattle. I had my daughter drive the car while I set in the passenger seat and the rattle never occurred.
I finally found the source of the rattle. It was the lid for the center console. The lid originally had two rubber bumpers. Both of the bumpers were either missing or worn completely down. When I had my elbow on the center console lid the rattle did not occur. I fixed it with stick on drawer stops.
2011 Volvo XC70. I'm hearing a popping sound similar to a plastic bottle popping coming somewhere from the back seat of my Volvo XC70. This usually occurs while driving a few miles after first starting the vehicle and happens only once. We've check the car for any plastic bottles that may have been lodged under the seat or inside the car and no bottles were found. Where this sound is coming from. There seems to be no mechanical problems associated with it, just this popping sound which is quite loud.
View 1 RepliesThe headrest of back seat will bend over when fold down the seat. But one of the headrests can't go back to original up position. The dealer has adjusted the cable but this just temporarily fixed the problem. The problem is back again. I will go back to dealer but can they really fix it? Should I ask for a replacement of the whole seat?

View 5 RepliesMy RX350 is over 4yrs old with 105k km on it. I notice lately when I drive off the seat moves back a bit and when braking hard it moves forwards. It is about quarter of an inch movement but it is noticeable. I guess it is not under warranty now. I looked under the seat but can not find where this is coming from, I am assuming it must be a loose bolt that needs to be tightened.
