Got in my car yesterday and the airbag light on the dash stays on and a airbag fault message pops up in screen next to the speedo. What could be the problem?

I drive a 2001 VW 1.8T and she only has 48,000 miles on her.

View 22 RepliesI have a couple of fun curves I hit daily and most days I push the car pretty hard. So, I hit one the other day on the way home from work and the freaking airbag light came on with a fault message. I immediately suspected that when my seat belt tightened that the sensor in the seat belt connector freaked out. I later scanned with VAGCOM and confirmed that I have the famous high resistance message for the driver side seat belt connector. I remember that some people had luck by cleaning the connections to the bottom of the seat and the switch. Maybe that is all I have to do. Got to love the .:R. I break stuff as fast as I fix stuff.

View 11 RepliesAfter spilling coffee down emergency brake lever the airbag light intermittently stays on. OBD showed no codes.
Found a couple of recalls that deal with airbag problems. One messed with the wiring harness under neath both front seats. The old wires hung down to low. The 2nd added a cover to not allow liquid to get on the connector/airbag electronics. The airbag electronics connector is directly below the emergency handbrake lever.
My nephews 2002 had the carpet extended over the connector/airbag electronics and that was suppose to protect the connector from getting wet.
Found sticky coffee on connector/airbag electronics.
Used screw driver to pry up on console tray. Then removed 3 screws on both side of console. Disconnected battery then used contact cleaner on connector and electronic module. Took plastic lid from 42oz round container of oatmeal and used double side tape to secure over connector/electronic module.
Airbag light is off and connector/airbag electronics has better protection from spills.
The airbag fault light came on for no apparent reason and has not gone off. Is this an electrical issue, airbag fault or something else that the dealer can take care of easily?

View 12 RepliesTruck was in shop 10K service on Thursday (4/7) and as soon as I started the truck on Friday I have the Air Bag/Seat Belt Pretension light on showing up in dash. The light is one but no MFI fault reported.
Why indicator light coming on just after service? I did not pick the truck up at the shop on Thursday so I cannot say if it was on immediately after 10K service. Shop asked me to drop the truck off Sunday night. Site Search came up with several items that could cause this malfunction.
Recently "acquired" AB Fault that would not go away. Upon routine 10k service, here is what was found out. If you move the passenger front seat within the first few seconds, the self-tests (including determination of seat empty to automatically turn off passenger airbag) get confused and a fault code is thrown. Fault will not go away until reset by VW service (or presumably VAG-COM can do this).
The recommended "fix", at this point, is to not mess with the seat adjustment for 10sec after ON. There is no written information on Touaregs, apparently, but same problem is documented in a Technical Bulletin for New Beetle. A relevant quote from that document is: "Volkswagen Technical Service is investigating the following condition. After switching ignition ON, the Airbag Monitoring indicator light stays illuminated and DTC 02511 014 - Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module Fault - is stored in DTC memory.

To clear it, all I have to do is shut down and restart and it goes away for pretty much the rest of the day. Is this something that I should get into the shop ASAP? Or can it wait a month until my scheduled 20,000 mile service?

Has scanned the car while had the airbag fault present and if so, is this the usual harness that needs to be changed?
On the way I get a msg saying that there was a gear fault. Not sure what it is and I can not find anything using the search. What this may be. After restarting the egg, the message has gone away.

It happened only two times, once in snow off-road driving, second on the off-road testing area. I take the car to the dealer, but what does it means.
View 2 RepliesI have an 04 - V6 with about 55k miles. Tire Pressure Monitor System Fault is the message. The tire pressures are fine. Message appears after 15 minutes or so of driving. After another 5 minutes or so of driving, the fault message goes away - whey you click to vehicle status it says "OK". I took it to my local VW dealer, they said they fixed it, but on the way home from the dealer, it popped up again. They are perplexed. This is not the "Faulty wheel on board" message, it is totally different....
View 11 RepliesOK, I just got the airbag fult and am scheduled for service. I just noticed a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel Area... it does not occur with any specific movement and is fairly quite... definitely sounds like some kind of electrical switch tht is continually trying to do something (sensor??).
I am wondering if this is related to the airbag fault? Very annoying once you pick up on it... along with whatever is loose in my driver side pillar next to the seat belt strap that rattles with the bass!!
