I have a 2000 chevy metro, whenever i start it up after it's been sitting for a little while a white smoke comes out of the back of it. zWhy this is doing it and how much approx.

View 14 RepliesI am having a problem with rough starts/ normal starts. This issue is intermittent. Once in a while when turning on the car I'll get white smoke and a pop noise from under the hood on the driver side. It smells electrical in nature. Other times like 80% of the time it starts normal. Also I have an issue with some of the cluster panel being lit while other are dimmed slightly. What is the cause of this problem? Where should I start to look to fix these issues? 2001 Impala LS 3.8L .........

View 2 RepliesI have a 4 cylinder 2000 Camry that I recently took to the shop because my check engine light was on and it was blowing out a puff of white smoke when the car first starts. I was told it was an EGR problem and this is what I had fixed:
"Upon client approval, remove and replace defective EGR Bypass Vacuum Valve with new (OE) EGR Bypass Vacuum Valve. Test drive vehicle following service to confirm proper operation. Warranty on parts and labor is 2 years or 20,000 miles (whichever comes first). Warranty valid at FIXCARNOW locations only. "
The problem is my car is still blowing out smoke, the check engine light is off, but it is having the same problems it did before. My concern is that either they didn't properly diagnose the problem,even though they ran a full diagnostic on the car, or just didn't fix it.
I recently bought a accent, changed the oil then upon starting it back up it just pours out white smoke from the exhaust. i might have put a little too much oil in, would that cause the issue? It didn't happen before the oil change either.

I added some oil one day, started to stall out. I had to jump start it. Ran for 5 minutes fine then huge white smelly smoke from exhaust. I haven't tried to start it since.

Problem: Especially when it is cold outside . . . The truck takes forever to start and while doing so a ton of white/grey smoke comes out of the exhaust.
My starting schema: Turn the key on have the gas pedal pushed to the floor until the "wait to start" light goes out. Then, I turn the key off and back on while still pressing the gas pedal all the way down. When the "wait to start" light goes out again I remove my foot from the pedal and try to start it. I never leave it cranking for more than 5-7 seconds. If, after trying this process several times I will not push the pedal in at all. Also, sometimes I will leave the pedal pushed in while I am cranking it over.
The truck used to start after a couple of tries but lately it won't start at all, even after 20 tries. Sometimes it will spin up for a second as if the engine gets going but then just doesn't continue running. When it is warm out it will usually start after a few tries but doesn't seem normal to me. After I first bought the truck(used) it would start up within half a second after turning the key.This all started after I had to fix an o-ring that was damaged on the top/back of the motor that was dumping all my oil out of the top/back of the motor.
my 2000 f350 7.3 is acting strange lately. Its got 252k and is all stock other than exhaust,intake,ww2. It smokes white every random once in a while for some reason. At start up it wont though. If i get on it every once in a while it will smoke white then go to back to black. Im not consuming coolant, and the oil looks fine, no residue on the oil cap and its not puffing out the oil cap either. Other than that its running great just dont know why it goes white every so often.

Out of the blue I started old red up yesterday (after charging the dead battery) and got a huge cloud of white smoke. Smells of coolant so Im thinking oh great a head gasket. The thing is, I can see no trace of coolant in oil or vice versa. I started it up with radiator cap off, while cranking I got a little fluid spit out the neck but once it started it was not gushing or bubbling at all.
We have a beloved 1995 Jeep Gr Cherokee 4L that was our first new car! We have babied it for many years. It now has 173k on it. We took to local Jeep dealer to get all RECALL items taken care of and to have it checked out completely. It was pinging on acceleration and hvac wasn't working. They kept it 5 months and finished all recall stuff and replaced the ENGINE TEMP SENSOR. They also recommended a new trans and a new AC. Since my niece wants it; and she loves it like we do; we took it to an honest transmission shop.
They said trans was fine just needed oil pan gasket, rear main seal and an elec engine diag because trans and engine were not speaking to each other. Now our JEEP is home; sits in driveway all week. When we start the car on Saturday we still have WHITE SMOKE then after driving awhile it goes away. Does not leak oil; does not need coolant; has NEVER over heated. Engine sounds great and it runs great. Had it tested for head gasket a couple of years ago and they said pressure was fine. We have never had to put coolant in it. The dealer and other Mechanics said nothing.

I have lots of white smoke at start up. Big time oil consumption. My wife drives car 14 mile round trip each day. Each night, I go out late and start car to burn off oil. There is no smoke in the morning when I do this.
People here have suggested the problem is valve stem seals. Not something I should try to fix myself. I did change the pcv valve.
I took car to mechanic. Told him it might be valve stems. He said he'd have to do the heads. Sounded like it would be expensive.
I have a volkswagen TDi 1.9 automatic which is using coolant more on short runs than on motorway and produces white smoke/steam on start up even when not cold which disappears after a few seconds. Other symptom is doesn't accelerate though goes OK when once up to speed. Have has cylinder head checked and new gasket so that is not the culprit and also new heat exchanger. There is also a gurgling noise which seems to be coming from the dash board though I am not sure if these things are related. I have read that the automatic has a water cooled EGR, could this be it??

View 13 RepliesMy 7.3 won't start after sitting for almost 2 months, the wiring for the injectors was bad, and the first package was damaged, so I had to order a new one, and wait trough Christmas before I get the new parts. The valve cover seals have now been installed, and all parts fitted. Thieves stole my batteries so I had to buy new ones there as well.
When I tried to start it, it will crank, but not start, white smoke comes out of the exhaust, and glow plugs seem to be fine. One thing I did notice is that the fuel pump under the driver side of car was making a wired noise when turning on the ignition, it was not a constant hissing sound that I used to on my other cars. I poured a small amount of condensation remover in the tank, the tank is half full, but still no start.
After trying a few times, it did sound like it would get better, but that only lasted for a second. Strange problem, I think my fuel pump is acting up, but I don't know for sure yet. The fuel pump did work when I parked it. Could it be a fuse that does it? I checked the hpop to see if there was any oil there, and it was.
I have a 2005 Camry that is not leaking coolant (checking water level every morning) it has a puff of white smoke the first start of the day. I initially suspected condensation, as it only produces white smoke when temperature goes down to 65 degrees or cooler during the night.
However the longer it sits without starting, greater the amount of smoke. If I do not start the car at all on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon I start it, there is a lot more white smoke than I get every morning during weekdays. If it was condensation, by Sunday afternoon when temp isn't as cool, shouldn't all the water collecting evaporated?
Assuming it is condensation, what part failing would cause this? This car did not have this white smoke issue when it was new.
Not sure if it is related but the engine stutters on the first start of the day. Stutter also gets worse the colder the temp and the longer it's been sitting without starting. During summer when it's 85+, it does not stutter in the morning.
Recently purchased a used 2003 Toyota Camry LE. After a recent oil change at the local Toyota dealer we noticed that when we start the car in the morning a puff of white smoke spews out from the exhaust for a few seconds and stops. There is no more white smoke while driving the car around. The car runs perfect and has no power loss. Initially we had noticed it was losing coolant. All the discussion on the internet pointed to a bad head gasket. We had a mechanic look at it and it turned out that the radiator was leaking and hence the loss of coolant. He also noticed the oil was overfilled so he brought it down to the normal level. The mechanic also checked the head gasket and claimed there were no issues with it. Replacing the radiator took care of the coolant loss but the white smoke still comes out only the first time the car is started.
View 8 RepliesI just replaced my up pipes, turbo pedestal O-ring, ICP, IPR, New O-rings in all my injectors and torqued to spec, new glow plugs, glow plug relay, oil loom wiring harness, new O-rings on oil cooler, oil filter, oil, and antifreeze. I have tried and tried on upwards of 50 or time to get it to turn over. A little white smoke came out and it sounded like it wanted to fire up, but only a few times. I have good batteries and a charger on it working along, 3-4 trys in 5-10 second burts or longer if it doesnt lose power every 30 -hr. oil is in HPOP too. 2001 F-350 7.3 auto 2wd 4dr longbed 329,611 ml..
