Civic - Honda :: 2004 - Started After Wiggling The Steering Wheel

Nov 6, 2016

Wife's 2004 Civic isn't pretty but usually runs like new. Over 200k and going strong.Yesterday she had trouble starting. Dash lights are bright. Battery is Interstate and under a year old. She wiggled the steering wheel and it started ok . Then it wouldn't later in the day. I tried moving the shifter (automatic). Tried moving the steering wheel. Nothing from the starter. Dash lights very bright. Let it sit overnight.Today the tow truck arrived. Started right up as if nothing was wrong. Ignition switch? Transmission sensor? Starter?

Civic - Honda :: Loose Steering Wheel When Driving But Only About 30% Of The Time

2000 Honda Civic DX, green, four doors, 91,000 miles. A few weeks ago I noticed that the steering wheel was loose when driving but only about 30% of the time--didn't seem to be related to whether the car was warmed up or time of day or speed, just that it happened when the car was moving. The steering wheel would have play when the wheels were pointed/driving straight and the looseness went away when turning. I brought it in to the mechanic and of course he couldn't get it to happen when he drove it. Replaced worn inner tie rods, did a power steering flush/replaced the power steering fluid and did a front end alignment. Drove fine for two weeks but then it started occurring again, this time even more loose/more play in the steering, still only when driving straight. Oh, just one time (so far) a few days ago it was loose when I was standing still at a stop light.

Civic - Honda :: 2005 - Steering Wheel Wobble Badly?

My 2005 Honda Civic just made it through a blizzard (outside the whole time). This morning I started driving it, and whenever I got above 45 mph the steering wheel started vibrating / whobbling very badly. My car seat was also vibrating. I poured hot water over the rims when I got home and that did not seem to work. Should I take it to a car wash? Is my car safe to drive?

Civic - Honda :: 1997 - Steering Wheel To Vibrate At Certain Speeds When Braking

I own a 1997 Honda Civic EX. Automatic. 160,000 miles. I have had the front disk rotors and pads replaced five (5) times within the past two years due to "warped" rotor issue. I recently changed the two front calipers as well to rule out caliper issues. Yet I continually end up with a warped right front rotor weeks after putting on new rotors. Here is what happens. Car brakes fine for a week or two with the new rotors. Then shortly afterwards, the right front rotor (passenger side) quickly develops a rubbing -like noise (not a grinding noise) when braking at a low speed. It's not a constant rubbing noise but a rhythmic swoosh swoosh swoosh noise as the tire rotates and the brake is softly applied. You can feel it in the brake pedal. This noise eventually gets louder and louder the more I use the brakes (or, the hotter they get?). It can also cause the steering wheel to vibrate at certain speeds when braking.

I have had it into four different mechanics.

Mechanic 1: Your rotor is warped.
Mechanic 2: You are too hard on your brakes causing the rotor to warp.
Mechanic 3: Did you go through a puddle of water lately?
Mechanic 4: You need new brakes. Period.

This is getting ridiculous. In all my years of driving, I have never encountered this problem. I am not hard on my brakes. I do not believe the "water puddle" theory at all. I should mention, although these are not oem rotors. they are not some cheap Chinese ones either. Something must be causing this rotor to "warp" if it's really warping at all. I have had the tires rotated to rule out a bent rim. It happens no matter what tire is on the right front car. What could be causing this? A bad front end alignment... bad wheel bearing... (although no mechanic ever indicated that as a problem)... bent splash guard... bad master cylinder? Air in the brake lines... old brake fluid???

Civic - Honda :: 2010 - At High Speed Steering Wheel Shakes?

My wife drives a 2010 Honda Civic LX sedan with about 18k miles. She mentioned that its steering wheel started shaking a couple of weeks ago when driving at about 60 miles/hour at the same streth of the road during her daily commute. She did experience the problem during rest of her drive at lower speed. I drive the car about once a week at lower than 45 miles/hour and had no problem. I have checked the tires and noticed nothing obvious.

Civic - Honda :: 1995 - Steering Wheel Developed Occasional Left Right Shake

95 Honda Civic. Manual Trans and Steering. CV joints have 40K since rebuild, 50K on tires. Tire Press and Tq is good. Steering does not pull either way, suspension feels tight. Happens with/without brakes. I noticed that the steering wheel has developed an occasional left right shake that is proportional to the speed of the car. Seems to be most pronouced about 45 mph, however it continues until the car comes to a stop sometimes, well below the speed an unbalanced tire might be an issue. I noticed the problem when it started getting cold and can not figure out if it a road issue (in IL = bad roads), or a car issue.

Civic - Honda :: 2001 - Power Steering Intermittently Cuts Out And Wheel Becomes Really Hard To Turn

The power steering on my 2001 Honda Civic intermittently cuts out and the wheel becomes really hard to turn. The belt is tight and the fluid level is correct.

The weird thing about it, is it only happens in cold weather. Everything was fine all summer, but now that the weather has turned colder the problem has reappeared. Same thing happened last year. . .

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Driver / Left Side Mirror Started Wiggling

My Driver side/Left side mirror started wiggling, and fell, hanging on by just the wires for the heating element. I snapped it back on twice now, and I noticed 2 small plastic clips broken.

It's a 2013, XLT, heated, drivers side mirror.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Rear Wheel Wiggling Left / Right

I have been driving a 2000 accent with 146k miles on it, and while driving home I thought I had a flat tire. Get out, tires look fine, so I give one (passenger side rear) a light kick with my toe, and it moves. I can wiggle it about 1/4 inch of play, and when lifted on a jack, the wheel rotates just fine so I don't know if its a bearing issue, the shock also turns with the wheel, left/right. The driver side rear doesn't do this so I decided to park it and not drive. What it is?

Brakes - Civic - Honda - Noises :: 2009 Car Started Sounding Like Airplane When Brake

My car, a 2009 Civic, has started sounding like an airplane when I brake, just in the last day or so. Sometimes the noise continues for a little bit after I'm off the brake and moving again, but mostly not. Obviously, I'm going to get it in to the shop, but my question is do I need to take off work and do it today / tomorrow (Tuesday / Wednesday), or will it probably be OK if I wait until Saturday morning?

Civic - Honda :: 2009 - Wheel Bearings Going Out

2009 Honda Civic, 54k miles, new tires (<10k miles), loud roaring when driving. Tire dealer says wheel bearings on front left tire are going out. Should this be happening on this car? Drove a Toyota Camry for 14 years and never replaced wheel bearings.

Civic - Honda - Oil :: 1993 - Large Amount Of White Smoke Started Belching From Tailpipe

My daughter has a 1993 Honda Civic, which was running perfectly until yesterday. Until she mistakenly filled the engine with too much oil. She then drove it until a large amount of white smoke started belching from her tailpipe. All seals and gasket seem to be intact. I drained the oil and fill it to proper levels, but still have a large amount of smoke coming out of the pipe. I check the radiator to ensure that no oil/water mixture, but it was a huge cloud of smoke.....is this the end for this car or is there still hope.

Civic - Honda :: Resonant Noise - Bad Wheel Bearings?

After my Chevy Prizm took its rightful place at the junkyard two months ago (transmission failure on a car with a bad engine and suspension problems is, and should be, fatal), I got a 2008 Honda Civic to replace it. I had it checked out before buying by my mechanic, and I've driven it a few thousand miles without many issues. It had just under 42K on it when I bought it (former lease bought at new car dealer sale by the local place I bought it from), has just over 46K now, and has new Bridgestone tires on it that my mechanic says are worth $700-800. (I don't know exactly what kind they are, which is why I include that bit of pricing info.)

Last week I noticed that a sound I'd been hearing intermittently (to the point where I wondered if I was imagining it) became steady and consistent at 60mph. It's a "hooooooooo" sound, very resonant, and it's driving me crazy. It's gotten louder and louder, and it's now happening around 30 mph and above. It's been consistent since last Friday and getting worse every day.

Underneath that sound is the soft drone of what I assume is a wheel bearing going bad, which is still intermittent and has only started in the last few days. This is what causes me to believe what my mechanic said yesterday, which is that one of the front wheel bearings needs replacing. He also said I could wait until the sound "gets louder" before replacing the bearing -- I assume he means only the droning sound, not the resonant hooting that I hear every time I get onto a main road now. Because I believe the resonant sound COULD get louder, but I don't see how a person could keep driving under those conditions without actually going insane.

I scheduled the car to go in tomorrow to have that bearing fixed (for between $300-500, he said, which seems really pricey to me). But I'd like to know whether this is likely to solve the resonant "hoooooo" sound as well as the "wow wow wow" sounds that I associate specifically with a bad wheel bearing. My mechanics checked the suspension and rotated the tires yesterday while doing an oil change, too, and said everything looks tight and good, and the tire rotation had no effect on the sound I'm hearing, which is strongest from the driver's side front and is, again, louder every day.

(I know Civics aren't supposed to be great on road noise, but the fact that this has clearly gotten measurably worse over only a few days makes me feel its definitely mechanical and not just the usual ambient highway noise.)

Civic - Honda :: 1998 - Vibration In Steering Column

My honda just celebrated its 155000 mile and low and behold it was greeted with a vibration in the steering column. It gets worse on uneven roads and pretty much goes away on smooth roads... What it might be?

Civic - Honda :: 1997 - Power Steering Grumbles

In recent months there is a new noise in my 97 Civic (75,000 miles). In any hard turn and particularly on U-turns there is a grumbling sound which seems to come from the front end. The noise doesn't happen on gentle turns. It grumbles a bit on 90 degree turns and wholeheartedly grumbles on U-turns. I checked the power steering resevoir and it is full so it is between the lines.

Civic - Honda :: 2005 - Steering Is Harder To The Left Than To The Right

I have a recently purchased '05 Civic 1.7.I've noticed that the steering takes significantly more effort to turn left than to the right. Turning right, even when moving at a good clip, I can turn using 1 finger. It takes a decent grip to make the same turn to the left. I've also tried this from sitting still - same thing.

The alignment, as far as driving goes, seems pretty straight. I've also had a Honda shop that I trust from experience look into the issue to see if there is any physical signs of damage, bent parts... anything. They are very confident that all parts related to the front steering and suspension are in good shape and that both wheels are even.

I am a little stumped as to how any physical damage would only affect turning the wheel in one direction. I wonder if there is something that would reduce the effectiveness of the power steering in just one direction???

Civic - Honda :: Grinding Noise Coming From The Right Rear Wheel

My '98 Honda Civic hatch is making a rubbing or grinding type noise that seems to be coming from the right rear wheel. It only happens when I'm making a speedy left turn and is made worse when there's lots of weight in the back seat. My boyfriend who mostly knows what he's doing checked the wheel for play and any grinding of the wheel bearings and he thinks the bearings are fine. We also checked around the wheel for foreign objects and any obvious issues i.e. pieces of the car hanging off.

Civic - Honda :: 2000 - Wheel Don't Spin After Trans Rebuild

Just rebuild my civic 2000 b4ra trans. after I install the trans back and the car does not move under all gears. the manual says the fluid should be 6.2 Qt for overhaul and I added an external filter and an external cooler should take another 1 qt (?). I totally added 6 qt and the fluid level is ok. I put torque converter upside to drain and some fluids come out. but did not count how much.

Another weird thing is that I can not push the car down the drive way with slope with engine off and brake down and neutral gear. I jack up the front and give some gas under D4 and the wheel does not spin.

Civic - Honda :: Groaning When Accelerating / Braking And Turning Wheel

I have an 04Honda Civic manual transmission that suddenly started making an ugly groaning sound whenever i accelerate, apply the brakes, or turn. It sounds like a metal-on-metal noise like something is loose or cracked. It even happens if I turn the steering wheel when the car is stationary. I tried to listen to where it's coming from, but all I can tell is that it's somewhere in the front suspension.

Mechanic said he didn't see anything wrong on the front suspension, but recommended replacing rear control arms.
