I have a fuse blowing in my 98 Citation that is in the panel light/exterior running lights (front and back). Could the short be in the dimmer switch in the dashboard or is that unlikely?
View 2 RepliesI took my '02 Passat in a couple weeks ago when the steering wheel controls and horn stopped working. They replaced a fuse. About 10 days later, I experienced the same problem. That time, they said that the steering wheel was all shorted out and needed to be replaced. Five days later, again the same problem. Now the dealer says it's some faulty switch from the fuse panel, which caused the short of the old steering wheel. Since that wasn't replaced, that's why I experienced the problem again. Could that have been the only problem? Or could that really have fried the steering wheel, too. Am I being taken, and do I need to fight to get some of that money back? Or is this legit? How can I verify that what they said was the problem actually was, and that I'm not left paying for their mistaken diagnosis?
View 3 RepliesI have a 1997 Expedition that every time I replace the #16 fuse it blows when the high beams are on. It seems that it happens only when in drive and accelerating from a stopped position. I wonder if it could be either the clock spring or the multi-switch cause the short. I checked the wires on the headlights and they are fine. Again the high beams work when the truck is sitting still and the fuse is new.
View 4 RepliesMy hazard, reverse don't work. The over all instruments panel light doesn't light up (the small bulbs work). Gauges with needles work. I'm putting every thing back into the truck. I left the steering wheel resting on the floor while cleaning and also left the wiring in. Everything else came out because I had to clean out the smell of mice. After I installed the instrument panel I started the truck, there was no hazard lights. I checked all the fuses under the dash. I checked all the fuses under the hood.
I did have a bent brake plug blade to bend straight. I need to replace a bad key cylinder, you can turn it without a key. I believe there were three plugs I unplug to lower the steering wheel. Park brake, brake pedal and a plug under the steering wheel. Wipers, interior ceiling light work. I believe there's a switch on the column (?) that includes the wiper arm. Should it also operate the hazard lights ? The steering column is installed, I can drive it around. Outside cargo lights won't go off, even with the light switch pushed in. Everything worked before.
I have a 2008 Honda Accord that about 4 months ago the drl light on the dashboard would come on for a few seconds and then go off. This happened 2 or 3 times a week. During this time the driver side drl light would also quit working. A couple of weeks later it progressed to the drl dashboard light would come on, then the tpms dashboard light would also come on. After an intermittent period of time (seconds to minutes) the icon showing low tire pressure would flash for a second and the drl light and tpms light would go off. This happened maybe 3 times in a day, then not happen again for a week or so. Air pressure in all tires was correct. About week ago it progressed to the drl dashboard light and the tpms dashboard light stay on all the time and neither the drl light (drl mode or high beam or will work on the driver side. In the past few days the low beam on the driver side has also quit working.

1. Start with good fuse.
2. Start engine, while in park, turn on parking light...4.8A on circuit. No problems.
3. Put into reverse and drive. down the block around the corner and back up to the house... No problem. 4.8A on circuit.
Put the shifter into drive and - POP - the fuse goes. I never see a jump in the current. 1-5 seconds until fuse goes. While conducting testing, I have had the fuse blow when shifting from reverse to park. Looking at the wiring diagrams, I don't see a common wire that would cause a short when shifting. What I should try next?
My beloved 1995 Dodge Ram Van has intermittent dash panel electrical issues. The gas gauge an speedometer are intermittent, coupled with lights and radio on off too. It It all started when I had the transition services years ago. It has less than 100k mileage.
View 1 RepliesI'm having brake light issues with a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara. The brake light fuse keeps blowing. The last time driven with me following the driver side brake light was dimmer than the passenger side. At one stop the driver side brake light pulsed brighter for a split second then went back to dim. A few stops later it became as bright as the passenger side and stayed that way for the rest of the trip. The driver put in a breaker fuse and it was in during the observed trip. I'm not sure of the brake light visual symptoms without the breaker fuse in other than that the fuse keeps blowing which prevents the vehicle from being shifted out of park. What the problem could be? Bad ground?

Everything I find online only shows 2-3 wires in each sub connector, nothing with all wires and colors, and what they do. and of course the factory service manuals no longer work on my new computer. the switch and associated wires went up in smoke 2 hours ago, and this truck is my only means of transportation rite now. what i need is headlight wiring with colors so i can temporary hook up a toggle switch to have lights until the new switch and connectors come in next week. I went to pull the switch and connectors out of the parts truck, but of course that does not have fog lights so it uses different switch and connections.

View 1 RepliesI've had a base model 07 Santa Fe for 4 yrs and I know darned well that the when the car is running, even with headlights off (as in daytime), that the gauges in the instrument panel light up, and the brightness can be controlled by rolling the dimmer switch (reostat) up or down. Now that it isn't working, after dealer replaced something nearby on a recall, they're trying to tell me that the gauges only light up when the parking or headlights are turned on.
View 7 RepliesI have an 02 Excursion, V10. It has the extension brake switch harness, with the fuses. I had a blown 2a fuse. I have a brake pressure switch, that is still open. Any better approach to the redundant switch. If not, I would like to know an updated switch part #, and is there any reason I could use key run, for the battery? Using a Bosch relay coils thru the switch, then battery to the cruise servo?
View 9 RepliesI have a 2004 Lariat 4x4 with a no start condition. I had lights, but it wouldn't crank. I then discovered that it would not shift out of park. Turns out that it had a blown fuse. I did not have any of that type (the funky square 20a fuses) so I pulled the heated seats fuse (30a) and threw it in there, tried to start it and blew it right away. Is there a common short to look for on these? I believe that the guy that owned it before me had a satellite radio in it, and could it be a bare wire from that setup possibly blowing the fuse?Just trying to get a head start on tracking down the short.

View 7 RepliesMy wife's 2013 Passat started blowing hot air. I checked the fuses and they are ok. I looked at the sensor switch for the AC on the passenger side of the engine compartment and it looks like the wire caught on something and frayed/cut through. I don't see where it went through to fix. Finding info on this car is a slight challenge. The owners manual doesn't even have a map of the fuse panels.

View 8 RepliesI need to hook up a lamp for my mechanical oil pressure gauge and tested all the fuses, they are either on or on with key in run position, but I found none that went on with the lights, which of course is what I need. So now I guess I start randomly sticking needles in wires under the dash and testing for a possible light switch dependent circuit? Or run a wire through the firewall and tap a wire near a running light? There's got to be an easier way, but my Haynes manual seems useless--one wiring diagram for 1995-2008. I will be forced to run it off a key on circuit which means the lamp will be on anytime I drive, day or night, unless I install a toggle switch--not the best way to do it though.

View 1 RepliesI want to add a CB and some flood lights to my pick-up, but am getting tired of hunting for wires that are constant hot or switched hot under the dash. Not to mention the rats nest of wiring that results, and the potential for overloading the factory wiring.
Above is a diagram that I came up with while trying to figure out how to add a constant hot fuse block, and a switched hot (or ACC) fuse block to the truck to clean up the wiring.
Am I using the relays in the right way? (Never used one before)...
I have a main tank and an Aux tank with a gauge selector switch. I believe I may have a bad fuse as the indicator has stopped working. Where it is on the fuse block??
