My 2008 Expedition seems to have a problem shifting correctly when it first is driven for the day. As I start and start to drive down my street, it begins the shifting process and seems to stick as it tries to shift. Once it gets through this first cycle, it never does it again until the next day when I first drive for the day. Is this something I need to correct, or just live with?

View 13 RepliesI looked back through the DSG threads and didn't find anything regarding the direction in which you manually up shift using the stick shifter...towards the dash. This seems odd to me because if you are accelerating, your are forced into the seat, moving away from the shifting direction. The natural shifting direction would be towards the back. And vice-versa for braking and down shifting situations. Or is it just me. Can reverse the shifter to up shift towards the back?
View 9 RepliesI just bought a used 2008 Expedition XLT and the rear ac was working on the first day of ownership. On the next day it worked on way to the park but on the way back the rear ac didn't come on. I have tried both the front a rear controls. I can hear a single click sound coming from the rear of the truck (blower area) when I switch the AC on and as I click though the speeds but no air flow or sound form the motor itself. The front AC is working fine but I am not sure where to start trouble shooting the rear ac issue. I have found other issues complaining about clicking sounds and bad actuator but could this be the issue if I am only here a single click.
View 3 RepliesI drive a 2008 Ford Expedition and every time I go on long trips after a while on the road the car starts making this grinding noise when driving uphill. As soon as i take my foot of the gas it stops. It has never done it in the city, always when driving on the freeway. I can manage it if I keep the gas pedal as steady as possible but if I try to give it more gas it will start making the noise. This does not happen all the time, it is intermittent. I was told that it might be the 4x4 engaging on the front wheels but I am not sure what it has to do with the speed or gas. I have changed the spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel pump.
View 19 Replies2008 Expedition 6 speed auto .... I recently had the clutch replaced in my manual transmission car. Whenever I am about to stop in traffic, if I put the gear to neutral I can see the engine's rpm hovering around 1080's rpms, and it only drops to the "idle range" of 700 - 800 rpm if I stop the car completely. I did a test going downhill in neutral and I can see the engine rpms going up a little bit if I let the brakes go. I plugged my obd scanner and used OBD doctor on my phone to keep track of the rpm graph. Here is a pic.. You can see the rpms going 1000's steady and then dropping abruptly when I completely stop the vehicle. So, is this normal?
View 18 RepliesFirst time ford owner so am not familiar with any quirks in the vehicle. Anyhow, about a year ago I replaced the head unit for the previous owner without any problems. All my connections are good and I rechecked them this morning. The problem is all the rear speakers cut in and out for no particular reason.
I have tested this even with the engine off just on acc. I have manipulated the wiring harness in the dash and I can't make it cut out or in so I am inclined to think something is that triggers a relay near the center armrest is the source of the issue. That relay is switching every time but I have yet looked into that. Is this a common issue?
The vehicle just had the BCM (I think that's what it's called on a ford) replaced because of a similar random relay issue in the right kick fuse panel causing the headlights to randomly flicker.
06 6.0... Ive replaced hpop, lpop, stand pipes and dummy plugs and injector cup o rings are on the way. What else could it be???
View 9 RepliesSo last night I was on a 55 MPH road that has a gradual right curve, that ends up at a stop sign in a T intersection of a major highway. I was in the process of slowing down when the engine all of a sudden died. Then the brakes and steering went as stiff as can be. I made the curve and was able to stop at a semi decent location. After checking my shorts. I tried to restart it and it would only run a few seconds with rpm's jumping all over the place. the check oil light would flash and then the engine would die.
I was able to get it to move like 20 feet to the side of the road. The major problem is the bumper to bumper warranty was up 6 months ago. So I just had it towed home. Now it's time to figure out what exactly is wrong with it. I tried to borrow a code reader from the local parts store. But none of the ones by me will lend them out anymore. This is also my only vehicle for the time being. I have had the vehicle since feb of 2009. It is a 4.6L 3v engine and only has 27000 miles on it. I have read a few things online about them stalling.
I have the part number for the battery. It is a series D51 Optima # N9951 YEL ( Napa auto parts )$149.00. You need a new positive post bracket with stud attached (standard post size, since the old one is smaller than normal) and a universal ground bracket with the clamp for a wire install. Cut off the ground clamp ( old one) and install the wire to new one. Look at the positive post ( old one ) and get a new one with the same configuration with the post bolt. Unbolt the positive unit from the old bracket and install new one. The Optima is the same size as the old one so everything goes back under the cover. It is a non vented battery so you do not need the hose hooked up to it.
If you are not good with electrical connections get the terminal kit . Then it is just a matter of unbolting the battery and replacing the cables , connectors and your done.
I wonder if I could remove the SOS system and install eyeglass holder in its place?

Should I get the extra accessories like the audio sensor and tilt sensor? And I'll probably need a transponder bypass module with it too?
I have a 2009 GS350.
Its Satellite radio ready, meaning it has a SAT button and it has the shark fin antenna on the roof. When you push the SAT button nothing happens. I was told I need to get the unit installed. I am assuming all the wires are run through the car and its just a simple plug and play, but I'm thinking that would be too easy. Also where does the unit get installed? Where to even look to see if the wires are there.
Where to check my trans fluid level and looking for info on changing the fluid (The process). I'm pretty familiar with mechanics and changing fluids this is just my first time on this car.

And no, the monitor does not work in this situation.
My truck makes a noise that kinda sounds like i run over a rumble strip on side of the road when truck shifts down from OD to Drive.. only last for a second, sounds like it coming from under truck and not steering or wheel area... Plan on taking truck to tranny shop..
View 6 RepliesI have an 06 FX4 5.4 with the Evolution programmer. I am bringing the truck to Ford tomorrow to trade it in. I took out the programmer after returning the truck to the stock power level. Now the rear end has a wicked shudder when shifting, especially going first to second and much worse under heavy acceleration. The dealership drove the truck before I returned it to stock so the deal is made but if they drive it even a few hundred yards on the lot they will definitely notice it. I reprogrammed it to level 2 and the shudder is gone, but they told me to take the Edge out so what the heck should I do.
View 10 RepliesMy Treg has about 3K miles on it right now, and since I picked it up, the brakes have squealed (some times VERY loud, some times just a slight squeak at the end of the braking process). It is currently in the shop for the second time to get a fix for this or an adjustment, and I just got a call from my service advisor telling me there is nothing they can do to quiet the brakes--it is the nature of brakes to squeak and squeal.
I realize that brake dust (and man, there is a lot of that on this vehicle) can make the brakes squeal a bit, but does it even make sense that they would tell me that brakes are supposed to squeal?
I am also having a sticking door handle and a defective ac/heat control issue looked at while the Treg is in (I can illuminate both the "auto" and "econ" buttons at the same time, instead of one switching the other off). Should a vehicle at this price point have noisy brakes?
I have a 08 f-150 super crew 4x4 and driving down highway or just on main roads,when ever my truck down shifts it make a quik vibration noise, kinda like driving on a washboard road.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2005 V8 and in getting my latest service, a bunch of recalls were completed on the vehicle which seemed to screw up the locking/unlocking of the doors. In the past, the doors unlocked without having to hit any of the buttons on the key fob, but now, I get a 'chirp' from the car when I lock it, and have to click the unlock button once for the front doors and twice for the back doors. Is there anyway to revert back to the old way where just having the key close to the door unlocked it?
View 3 RepliesMy son in law's 2004 F150 had been having a random hesitation and dieing on light acceleration. Now it is every time he drives it.Here is the scenario. After taking off from a stop, with light acceleration, when speed reaches 22 mph in drive, it is like you turn the key off,,,except all the gauges still work,radio air all electrical seems to stay on,BUT the indication lights on the dash and the small red anti theft dash light for the security function comes on. If you try to continue accelerating, the truck will die, but if you let off on the gas and then continue to accelerate all is well.
I tried starting off in 2nd thinking it is a transmission problem same scenario except truck did get up to 29mph before experiencing the dieing issue. Tried starting off with Overdrive disengaged, same problem. The truck is throwing no DTC codes and Ford says unless it throws a code, they can't work on it. Truck runs great at highway speeds . My son in law says that if the truck does die,(by trying to force acceleration) he has to stop, and put the truck in neutral or park, and then it will restart. I have checked all connections at the transmission, rear end and all sensors/controls, but no solution. We are getting desperate and don' t know what else to check. It has the 5.4 engine.
