I am hearing a whining noise only after car has been running awhile and only when turning left. The noise seems to come from the back passenger side. What this could be?
View 4 Replies2005 3.5L 105K. I had the timing belt replaced at 70K. Ever since then I get a winning noise in the right front when turning left and accelerating. Does not happen turning right. I took it into another dealer and he said it could be in the power steering. But why turning left and not right? He didn't think it was the CV joint.
I changed the PS reservoir in case it was a clogged screen. That did not work. Now I am getting a rattle sound on the right with the car in D or R when the car is first started, moving slow or not moving. The sound goes away in N. I don't know if these sounds are related or not. What could be causing these sounds?
Our 2010 Honda Odyssey has been making a whining noise for some time now. It seemed to me that it was clearly the power steering pump.
View 2 RepliesMy 2010 Honda Odyssey EXL recently began making a whining noise that seems worse when turning the steering wheel. When in the shop for routine maintenance a few weeks ago they noted a leaking power steering suction hose although at the time it was not making any noise. Is this a likely cause? Unsure what it was I tried spraying belt dressing on the serpentine belt and it seemed to work. There was no whining for a couple days. Now it's back.

View 8 RepliesI have a 2005 Honda Odyssey with over 100k miles. Recently, it has started making a loud whining noise (it reminds me of the sound my old manual transmission sedan would make when I was in second gear but needed to switch into third) when we drive at highway speeds (55 mph or more) for more than 20 minutes or so. The sound continues at lower speed and even when we go into park. It doesn't stop until we turn off the engine, but the next time we drive the sound doesn't start until we've been driving at high speeds for a while. It also intensifies when we make sharp turns. I took it to my mechanic who thought it was simply the fan coming on because our coolant was low, but we refilled that and it hasn't made a difference. Also the temp gauge doesn't show that or car is overheating.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2004 Honda CR-V, 100k, just did its 90k maintenance (a little late) and also had the ball joints replaced. Brought back from the mechanic and heard clicking sound when turning wheel hard left or hard right, only at low speeds, usually when parallel parking or simply sitting in park, turning wheel back and forth. Right back to the mechanic: they checked it out, re-lubricated everything, drove it, said it was OK. I got it home, still clicking. Safe to drive this weekend? It's back to the shop on Monday.

Several months ago, when turning left, regardless of speed, my wife starting hearing a noise. It is not a knocking or harsh grinding noise, but a low grumble (I don't have a great word for it). It's definitely rotational, it doesn't get any louder as speed increases, but it obviously happens more often. It seems to come from the right side of the car, I originally thought it was from the wheel, but just now I had it jacked up and had a neighbor who works on cars look at it with me and now I'm not so sure.
When I described the problem to him, he first thought it was a CV joint, or possibly ball bearing. After a few minutes looking under the hood, he quickly ruled those out. Boots were in great condition, and he remarked that everything seems to be very solid around the wheel.
I thought that noise was a result of weight shift to the right side of the vehicle when making right-hand turns, but we had the car up on two jacks stands placed on the jack braces, turned the car on and gave it some gas with the wheels turned left, and you can definitely hear the noise with zero weight on the wheels or axles. When you straighten the wheel, the noise subsides.
First I will start off by stating that my truck is a 2005 Ford F150 2WD Regular Cab 6.5 Bed, with the V6.
My problem is, when making a left turn at low speeds, I have a grinding noise that corrects itself upon straightening out the truck. This seems to happen on turns in the parking lots etc. It almost sounds like the tires are rubbing but the tires are the same BFG's that have been on the truck for 40,000 miles and have never rubbed. I am thinking it might be the power steering pump but am unsure. I do not have access to a lift right now but I have done the shake test on all of the suspension components and nothing seems out of place or loose.
I am having a problem with my 2007 R32 manual,over the last few weeks its developed a whining noise in what seems to sound from the rear left side,more so when driving around a left hand corner (weight is off the noisy side),or when i let my foot off the gas and let the car run,ive jacked it up and when I grab the back left drive shaft and shake it, I found there's a bit of play on the side going into the diff, there's 70000 miles on it and no problems to date, looking for some info on what problem could be?
View 6 RepliesMy Odyssey has 110,000 miles but since about 50,000 miles (I can't exactly remember) it makes a loud wining sound from the engine when I slow down, gets louder when I turn a corner, like going into a parking spot. The problem is it comes and goes and I can't seem to pin point what kind of weather or other conditions make it happen.
View 1 RepliesHere's my problem, I have a B5.5 1.8 5speed and my power steering makes a whining noise when Im turning. I checked the fluid and it's full. A few years ago on a roadtrip from CA to NM, my PS cooler hard pipe had a leak and drained all the fluid. It's was 11pm and still had 30 miles to get home and all I could get was Pennzoil PS fluid from Walgreens. So for the past 3 years I've been using Pennzoil PS fluid. Just recently it started making this noise. Luckily I picked up a 98 AEB parts car for $300 and my question is,
Would a power steering pump from my B5 fit my B5.5??? And, If the problem isn't my pump, would the PS rack fit also??
I recently noticed that I'm getting a high pitched whining noise after I drive anywhere then stop and turn off the car. The noise is a buzzing/whining sound that lasts about 10-15 seconds and then stops. The noise sounds like it's an electronic component maybe having to do with the transmission? What it might be?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2000 4x4 Lim Excursion V10 and have started noticing a whining noise when acceleration from a stopped position. I cannot hear it at higher speeds maybe because of my exhaust . I also tried revving the engine in park and could not seem to hear the noise which leads me to believe it's not the engine per say. It is clearly from the front. I have heard the noise also coming from when I am turning from a dead stop so I think the steering pump is going out. But when I am driving straight it also makes a whining noise without turning too I have no clue what it could be I just change my belt about a month ago to a 45.00 Gates Belt from O'Reilly, so it can't be that. sounds like a old foreign car backing up its like urururururur but not that loud LOL... from a stop light then goes away around 25mph or so!!
View 5 RepliesMy 2013 Chevy Equinox has 30,000 miles. When the car runs with the air conditioner on, it has a whining sound that goes off when the A.C. is turned off. I have taken it to my local dealer several times, and they say that the whining is normal for this vehicle. They also say that Chevrolet will not authorize a repair under warranty for this problem.
View 2 RepliesOur '07 Santa Fe (3.3 L) has began making a terrible noise when turning the steering wheel. It is a deep, whining screeching noise that seems to come from the front passenger side of the car. It isn't a metal-on-metal sound, but is similar to the sound my old skid-steer loader used to make at work when the hydraulics were going out. It also seems to be worse when turning right.
At first I thought it was the power steering pump, but looking at some diagrams online it appears that the pump is to the rear of the motor.
The wife says that the sound seems to get worse after it rains. Saturday she drove into Austin to run some errands and when she got back home the sound was really loud. I drove it into town and after a while the noise went away. She says that the sound has returned, but not as bad as it was this weekend.
'05 F150 5.4 Sounds like a whining noise from the front end when turning to the right or going straight. Goes away on left turns. Thought it was tire whine but put originals back on and got same thing. 13.5x35 verses 275 Truck has a Fabtech 6" lift. Right CV axle seems tight, rotor assembly replace 2k miles ago. Any other option before going into front diff?
View 2 RepliesMy wifes Passat wagon just got the 40k service and the dealer replaced the sway bar bushings in hopes of getting rid of some SQUEAKS that the car has made since we got it, it is lowered on h&r springs and bilstien shocks, however the sway bar bushings really didn't fix it, it seems to squeak when turning to the left and its definitely coming from the back.
View 7 RepliesJust did the rear brakes on my 05 EX. New rotors and pads. Now there is a squeal when going around a left turn. It is a constant squeal when going around a left turn, not a squeak-squeak-squeak. Sounds like it is coming from the left rear. Took it back apart to make sure I didnt miss anything and everything looks fine.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2004 accord exl (4 cyl) and it's making a whining noise. At 1st I thought it was the serpentine belt but then listen closer and it's seems like it's the water pump pulley (top pulley). I sprayed it with silicon oil and it minimized it but still comes back some with driving. The car has 110.5K miles on it. Kind of early for the water pump to go??? The belt is original and doesn't seem too bad. so I guess the bearings are going and it's time to change the belt and the water pump.

We can never get it to do it to bring to dealership to have them look at since it only does it after long rides. We have had the power steering and transmission flushed and that worked a little while during the fall and winter but now that the weather is getting warmer it started again. What this could be?
