The mainteance reminder on my 2008 CRV allows me to go 12,000 miles between changes which seems crazy long on a mix of city/highway driving in extreme conditions in MN. Should I trust this thing? What kind of algorithm do they use? How hot/cold it's been?

View 3 RepliesWe own 2 2011 Prius cars bought at the same time in late May. Both have around 4600 miles on them. However, one has started showing a, Oil Maintenance is need soon , screen each time now at start up.
My question is first off, why is happening ? It was my understanding that the oil change level is 10,000 miles. Both cars were made well into the new 10,000 mile oil change requirement, so why is this light going off?
I have a 2013 LS and am getting a maintenance reminder when I start the car. I was curious to see if there was a place to see what maintenance is due in the user interface. I have looked in Maintenance, but none of the dates are set. Does it just automatically trigger from some factory reset at 4500 miles or so for the oil changes?

View 1 RepliesI recently went to a local chain to have my oil changed and tires rotated. Later that evening when I went to turn on my headlights for the first time since the oil change neither one was working. When I brought back the car the next day to see if they could look at this to see if anything reset accidentally I was told that both lights were burned out and it was a coincidence. It seems unlikely that both headlights would go out at once (high beams were OK) and that it would have happened right after the oil change. I couldn't say what would have caused this but wanted other opinions on if it was likely related to the oil change.

View 1 RepliesI have a 2008 Honda Fit, automatic with about 71K miles. At my last oil change on December 9, 2012, I also had the transmission fluid changed. Ever since then, there has been a low grade noise under the hood that is not my usual quiet, purring motor! In trying to isolate when the noise occurs, I've noted that it can be irritatingly heard when the car idles in both Drive and Neutral. (Initially, it was only when the car was in Drive.)....and when I'm driving the car anywhere up to about 30mph. what is causing this, and if it is the result of maintenance performed.

View 6 RepliesThe engine symbol (not the "Engine Maint. Reqd." light, but the actual image-of-an-engine light) has been coming on and going off for the past 3 months. The car has 76,000 miles and is in great condition overall. When the light comes on, there's no discernible change in the way the car rides or feels. Each time I've gotten close to taking it in for service, the light has gone off, so I've decided not to spend the money. Since the first time it came on back in December, I've put a bottle of fuel-injector cleaner in and there seems to be a correlation with the light going off again anywhere from 1 mile to 50 miles later.

I checked for any codes and there's nothing. My oil is a bit low, but not at the marker. My next due for an oil change says 195,300ish. I've never seen it flash before.
I own a 2008 Prius and I have been taking it to the dealer for service because it seems like non-Toyota shops don't know how to economically service the Prius.I'm seeing that the dealer I go to also seems to want to change the filters and rotate the tires at every service and this really increases the cost well above a normal oil change price.
How often have people really been changing the engine filter; cabin filter; and rotating tires? How often is this really necessary? I'm at 108000 miles now.
ok I have a 07 civic which I bought used, It of course has the indicator which says when service etc is due, my main concern is the oil life indicator, I have had the car 8 months changed the oil when it was due, I put 6100 miles on it, is this ok? I had an 02 civic which i bought new and change the oil every 3 to 4 k, I know the experts say you can go longer now, I do mixed driving city.
