I am considering purchasing a used 2005 Honda Pilot EX-L that has a sunroof. When I test drove it the sunroof sounded as though it was partially open even though it was closed. Opening and closing the sunroof did not solve the issue. Nor did cleaning out the sunroof tracks. Before committing to purchase this vehicle I would like to know if there is a way to fix the noise issue from the sunroof?
View 8 RepliesMy 2013 Sonata came with a sunroof wind deflector. I'm somewhat hesitant to install it, since it might increase wind noise. It also might affect MPG. I like the looks of it, at least the pics I've seen of it.
View 12 RepliesI collected a 6 month old demonstrator Phaeton on Friday to replace my previous 3 year old.
It's interesting all the little changes in the upgrade model, and it has (to me) a different feel. Quite a bit of this may be due to the 19" wheels which do contribute quite a but more road noise at higher (motorway) speeds.
My real query is the sunroof on this car. I hear significant wind noise from the closed roof at higher speeds (an indicated 80 to 90 mph). On inspection I suspect that the front lip of the sunroof is a few mm proud of the roof.
Last few weeks I've been getting a bit of a whine getting into car. I thought it was a wheel bearing but I've discovered its wind noise from the sun roof.
My question is is the glass roof easy to get out and is there a aftermarket seal available as i suspect oem one will be arm and leg.
When the sunroof is open all the way, as soon as I reach the speeds of over 25, there is this annoying Wind noise that kinda hurts the ears. It goes away if I crack a window open slightly. I've test driven other cars (bmw 3 series) and there was no wind noise. It's not a big problem. It's has probably has something to do with laws of physics?
View 9 RepliesI have a 2013 Accent GLS hatch. There were no GLS hatches within 1700 kms available for a test drive when I was shopping, so I never got to test the sunroof before purchasing. I have had the car 10 weeks, and am not impressed with the wind noise from the sunroof while traveling at 80 kmh. I know, going that fast there will be some noise, but my XG350 probably makes 20% of the amount of noise from the Accent. I find it rather annoying, and ususally just close the sunroof unless I'm in the city...
My question is, if we install one of these 2011+ Accent Sunroof Wind Deflector ? did it improve or worsen the wind noise? Did it affect the 'partially open' or 'fully open' positions or both?
On a side note, thinking about these 2012+ Accent 5 Door Smoke Tinted Window Visors as well, so I can crack the side window to eliminate the "helicopter effect" when the sunroof is fully opened.
When I open the inner shade to my sunroof I get a wind noise? Is there a way to eliminate the wind noise other than keeping the inner shade closed.
View 8 RepliesSo I noticed I had some wind noise on the highway coming from my sunroof. It was actual wind coming through the dry rotted seals around the glass. Well I got really lucky and a truck kicked something up on the highway and it went right through the glass. Called the insurance company and since glass is covered free in Ma, they shipped an OEM sunroof to the local shop. Got it put in this morning, and it is all quiet again.
View 4 RepliesOut of nowhere began the horrendous screeching wind noise after closing my sunroof during this morning's commute. The sunroof had been dead-quiet all the years I've owned the car. This was not a gradual event, but quite sudden, and occurred after the third closure within 20 minutes. I cycled the sunroof open and closed several times, but to no avail. After arriving at work, I inspected the channels for debris, the rubber seal for failure, and the general appearance and alignment of the glass to the opening. Everything appeared normal. The only thing that alleviated the noise was slightly opening the driver side window, but this in not an acceptable solution.
View 2 RepliesSo there seems to be an issue with the sunroof already ( 2 weeks since ownership) . In UP/ DOWN mode it will not fully close and causes wind noise. With up down I'm referring to the tilt functionality. I don't get the message sunroof open when leaving vehicle however.
The work around is for me to open the sunroof in the horizontal mode and then close it again to get a proper seal and to eliminate wind noise. In the image you can see that the rear part of the moonroof sits lower than the metal roof....
Read the manual. performed reset. The reset made no difference. So basically to remedy the situation one either must open and close the sunroof or after closing it from tilt mode bump the button to make the moon roof rear part raise and become flush with the roof panel.
My Accent has a manually operated pop up type sunroof. Last summer I removed the glass on a particularly hot day. Unfortunately, when I put it back in that same day it would no longer seat properly along the front edge. When the sunroof is fully closed the front edge of the glass is raised above the seal. This gap creates a lot of wind noise and I'm concerned about water getting in now that winter is here. I've removed and re-installed the glass numerous times and just can't get it to lock down in the front. The metal mounting tabs on the front of the glass are going all the way into their slots. The back edge of the glass is sealing well and sinking flush with the black rim of the opening. The rubber gasket is in good condition with no warping or dislocation. I'm looking for some input before I start doing permanent things like bending the metal tabs or the roof opening.
View 2 RepliesWhen I go over bumpy roads I get car noise. Seems worse than 6 mos ago. Maybe I'm imagining it. The noises are diffuse and somewhat varied, not limited to a single area. And varies in intensity with the bumps.
Anyway, I tried testing for bad shocks by pushing down the front and back of my 2004 Honda Pilot and watching the return. But I didn't observe much. I couldn't get much vertical distance on the push down, to begin with.
Incidentally, there's no instability while driving...no up and down bouncing, no lateral movement, no problem when braking or starting.
At 120K mi, had ALL the service work done. Changing the trans fluid as well as the 4WD differential was due. A noise in the rear diff began. So the mech said a Honda bulletin stated that this happens sometimes when changing the fluid. Ok. Changed it again. ANYWAY, the noise is still slightly there when going from a stopped position .... steering wheel all the way to one side or the other ... and giving the gas. IS THE REAR DIFF BEING DAMAGED?
View 2 RepliesI purchased a new Pilot in June. With every acceleration or braking I heard significant creaking. After two visits to the dealer I was told it was an issue with the a-frame. I continue to have all kinda of noises, increasing with colder temps. Every bump, rough road, etc, brings creaks, pops, rattling in the dashboard/windshield area, window seals, rear-end area. What could have caused the issue initially? Two people in the industry think it was damaged in transit. The first service was around 2,500 miles. It just turned 9,000 with 4-5 service visits.
View 5 RepliesI just bought a used 2003 Pilot with 62,000 miles. I quickly noticed a that I hear a faint rumble sound that lasts about 2 seconds at speeds between 30 and 40. It sounds like I ran over a very short and shallow rumble strip. It can happen very quickly as I slowly accelerate. It only happens once, but not every time that I slowly accelerate. It also happen as I am coasting at these speeds. I took it back to the dealer, but they are puzzled. They thought I was crazy until I took them on a test drive and we eventually heard it. They tried adjusting the sway bar, but the sound continues.
View 8 RepliesSix months ago my 2005 Honda Pilot got a new timing belt that was incorrectly calibrated. When the Honda Dealer test drove the car, they damaged the values. They fixed the valve damage and gave me a discount on the timing belt. I considered selling the car, but decided to keep it.
Now it's six months later. When driving I hear a "clicking noise". The dealer says that the timing belt tensioner needs to be replaced and that it would be dangerous to drive it at high speed as it is now. The clicking is caused by a worn ??? tensioner.
They claim that the incorrectly calibrated timing belt could not have caused this problem with the tensioner.
I have a 2007 Honda Pilot. 65K Miles.
Several months ago, when turning left, regardless of speed, my wife starting hearing a noise. It is not a knocking or harsh grinding noise, but a low grumble (I don't have a great word for it). It's definitely rotational, it doesn't get any louder as speed increases, but it obviously happens more often. It seems to come from the right side of the car, I originally thought it was from the wheel, but just now I had it jacked up and had a neighbor who works on cars look at it with me and now I'm not so sure.
When I described the problem to him, he first thought it was a CV joint, or possibly ball bearing. After a few minutes looking under the hood, he quickly ruled those out. Boots were in great condition, and he remarked that everything seems to be very solid around the wheel.
I thought that noise was a result of weight shift to the right side of the vehicle when making right-hand turns, but we had the car up on two jacks stands placed on the jack braces, turned the car on and gave it some gas with the wheels turned left, and you can definitely hear the noise with zero weight on the wheels or axles. When you straighten the wheel, the noise subsides.
I've owned my 2004 GX since last November and it has a had an issue with the sunroof in the last couple months.
The problem is my sunroof rattles when it is closed and I have already taken into my local dealership. The first attempt was to lube up the gasket, which worked temporarily. The most recent attempt was to remove the sunroof and realign it as they said it was higher toward the rear of the car.
It seemed to have worked, but now the rattle started up again slight and it will probably progress to get louder. If I push up the sunroof, there is a slight play toward the front of the car. The rattle when driving seems to be coming from the between the front and rear seats so what is actually causing the noise. There is a slight rattle whenever i close the driver or passenger side door.
The service manager said that the GX's have this common problem and that there will also be a slight rattling from the chassis flex. At its worst, I could clearly hear the rattle driving in a straight line, while slightly steering left and right. I know the GX is a truck and not a unibody chassis design, but I would think Lexus could make quite sunroof for this luxury vehicle.
So the other day I went to close my windows and sunroof, I turned the knob to close on the sunroof and it went complete closed then opened it self all the way... Tried many times.. Could it need the switch going bad?
View 4 RepliesOn my 1991 945, the electric sunroof won't move at all (stuck closed). The motor visibly twitches clockwise and counter-clockwise in response to the control switch but then stops (or is stopped by the jammed sunroof). All the instructions I've read for working on the sunroof begin by saying "open the sunroof to the vent position" but how do I do that? Presumably there's some manual way, but I don't know what it is.
