Nissan - Altima :: 1998 - Shut Down On Highway / Will Not Restart - Computer Stopped Working

Apr 16, 2012

My 1998 Nissan Altima 4 cyl (auto) shut down on highway, would not restart, and had to be towed. My mechanic told me it is the computer. After seeing prices for new ECMs from a Nissan parts site, I am wondering if something else needs to be replaced. I don't want to put that kind of money into a 14 year old car with other problems and mileage of 155,000. Could whatever caused the computer to stop working be an additional cost. The mechanic provided minimal information and is actually recommending I get rid of the car due to a slow oil leak and control arm bushings that eventually need to be replaced. However, it just passed inspection and a few months ago, I replaced 4 tires and brake rotors.

Nissan - Altima :: 2005 - While Driving On Highway Car Will Misfire And CEL Comes On

For the last few months while I'm driving on the highway my car will misfire and the check engine light comes on. Every time is the same two codes for crankshaft and camshaft sensor failure. I've replaced the easier one to get to but it still happens. A friend suggested to clean my spark plugs...

Nissan - Altima :: 2000 - Overheated While Driving Down The Highway Due To Radiator Leak

Do I buy an engine or sell the car for parts? My son’s car overheated while driving down the hwy due to a radiator leak. After a first and second opinion, two separate mechanics told me the engine has no compression so basically was shot. The car was in good shape with 102k miles and everything worked. Internet surfing has some used engines with 80-100k miles from $800-$1200, some guaranteed some not. Is it better to rebuild the original engine or buy another used one? Labor cost on top of an engine wont be cheap. Are other parts under the hood expected to be replaced too as a result of the engine overheating?

Nissan - Altima :: 1998 - Oxygen Sensor Goes Bad As Soon As It Is Repaired

I have a 1998 Nissan Altima (manual transmission). The "Check engine light" came on. The oxygen sensor went bad again. I have had this repaired twice (to pass inspection). Every time I get it repaired, I take the car back to the inspection station and then it passes inspection. But in a few weeks to a couple of months, the "check engine light" comes on again. Every time I get this repaired its almost $400-$500 expense. I should probably take the car to another mechanic this time.

Nissan - Altima :: Weird Noise When Stopped Completely / About To Take Off

When I am at a complete stop and I lift up on the brakes I hear a loud noise from my car, and when I come to a complete stop it makes that same loud noise. It does not happen when the car is in motion, only when the car is coming to a complete stop and or about to take off. Watch this video I made to see what I am talking about. No shop has yet to figure this problem out.

Nissan - Pickup :: 1986 - Just Clicking When Trying To Restart After About One Hour Of Shut Off

Two wheel drive, small engine with two spark plugs per cylinder...clutch with five speed transmission. Over two hundred thousand miles on it. Drove it thirty miles on a rainy evening. Shut it off for about one hour and when I tried to restart, it just went click. Got towed thirty miles home. Replaced starter with brand new one and also new battery. Still nothing but click-click. Does start from clutch engagement when rolling. The trouble seems to be somewhere between the starter and the battery. What to do?

Nissan - Altima :: 1998 - When In Parking Gear Exhaust Makes A Pop

1998 Nissan Altima with 150,000. It has been well maintained and had many of the major repairs completed. There is still something wrong that annoys the heck out of me. When in "P"ark, the exhaust makes a pop, like there is too much or too little exhaust. It enough to be audible when I am in the front seat. The tach drops maybe 50-100 RPM when it pops. It happens maybe once every 30-60 seconds.

Nissan - Hesitation - Altima :: 2005 - Stalling When Stopped At Light

05 Nissan Altima CVT 91k was running great until last week, it stalled while sitting at a traffic light, restarted the engine and ran fine but check engine sign lit up. Today at 60-70 mph engine hesitated once but was noticable, and took 3 cranks to get it to start after re-fuelling. Plugs were replaced at 55k, air filter is clean and was new 4 months ago anyway. Autozone read P0335 and P0725 something about a crankshaft and engine timing sensors?

Acura :: 1998 Just Shut Off While Entering Garage / Cannot Restart

My 1998 Acura RL just shut off while entering the garage. The engine shut off, and the battery and engine lights remained on. An attempt to restart the car without taking the key out of the ignition did not work (no sound). Taking the key out of the ignition and restarting it worked like normal.

Occasionally the car makes a loud sound right after starting, which resembled a cross between a honk and a grinding sound. I'm not sure if this is related.

I would rather the car not stop mid-drive on a busy street or the highway.

Nissan - Altima :: 1998 - Both Sun Visors Are Detached / Radio Volume Button Not Responsive?

My 1998 Nissan Altima has the following three problems that I want to fix:

1) Both sun visors are detached. How can I reattach them?

2) The front passenger side window power button works only occasionally. Sometimes I will pull the window down but can't pull it back up. So the driver has to do it. Is it possible to fix this on my own. If so, how?

3) Finally, the radio volume knob/button is not responsive enough. That is, I will spin it and it makes the clicking sound but the volume doesn't increase/decrease unless I turn the knob very carefully. How to fix?

2006 Nissan Altima 2.5s.

I started my car yesterday and the radio came on as normal. When I turned off the car, it did not shut off as normal. This continued through a couple of stops.

When I got home and turned off the car, the radio was still playing. I disconnected the battery, the radio stopped. I reconnected the battery and now the radio will not turn on but everything else in the car is working fine.

From all I've checked, I can't find a fuse, relay or circuit breaker labeled to control window and door locks.all 4 windows don't work (with exception to front passenger window occasionally goes down but not up.)finally figured i should have come to this fine forum first! (especially after hearing 'car talk' today)some other pages with similar questions had answers referring to fuse #12 or relay F (mine aren't identified that way). I'm heading out to get a test light -- just so i can see if i can test anything...

Caravan/Voyager :: 1998 - AC Stopped Working

I have a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE. It has 122000 mi. I just bought it a few months ago and have came across a few minor problems and all have been easy DIY projects (couple of blown fuses, wiper replacement etc..) Recently, I noticed the AC stopped working (it was only tested once when I bought it, but have not used it since)

Where to begin the diagnosis. Is there a fuse connected to the functioning of the AC? I really don't know a whole lot about cars, but I am pretty good at fixing things in general.
