Toyota - Corolla :: 2000 - Poor Performance When Load Placed On Engine

Jan 10, 2014

I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla LE that ran very well until about a month ago. It has about 146,000 miles on it. A month ago it started hesitating from a standstill and the engine ran extremely roughly when trying to move the car. But when I put it in low gear it did much better, although not great! When in Drive it barely moved the car at all and would frequently stop running completely.

When I took it to an auto parts store they hooked it up to their computer and it read out that I needed either spark pugs, spark plug wires, or a new coil. I have replaced the plugs, but that made little difference. I then took it to another auto repair place that told me that it was either a problems with valves, or a 'problems in the lower engine'. I don't know what that latter problems means but either way it sounds like it will be very expensive to fix.

Corolla :: 2000 Toyota - Black Smoke When Car Is Under Load

I have a 2000 toyota corolla, with 1.8 16 valve. 105,000 miles, manual trans.. Just bought this veh. says misfire cylinder 4. So here is what I have done.

I started trouble shooting. swapping coils from cylinder 4 to other cylinders to see if the code follows after clearing it. No, stayed at 4..

So I moved on to the fuel injector. I did the same thing to see if it followed.. no stayed at cylinder 4. I changed the plugs, stilll misfire..

I did a compression check, I have 170 on 1,2,3, and on cylinder 4 I have 0. Yep, none...

I have some black smoke when the car is under load, as in acceleration, shaking and constant miss. lack of power... Trying to determine whether it is the rings or valves or what.. I took valve cover off and checked for broken spring, and they all seem ok. No oil in my coolant or vise versa.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Rough Idle And Poor Performance - Code P0401

97 4.6.. So it would appear that I have the wild goose chase of codes. The major symptoms are rough idle and very poor performance. I started off by cleaning the egr valve and ports. Then I checked the egr valve itself and watched the valve open and close under a vacuum. I was suspecting the DPFE sensor but I wanted to trying something else first. I was under the Impression that if at idle you apply a vacuum to the egr valve it would cause the engine to "stumble and stall". I did this and there was no change in the way the engine was running. So now I'm lost as to where to go from here.

Toyota - Corolla :: 2000 - The Engine Burns Oil Real Fast - What To Do

When I took my new used car to the mechanic, complaining how there must be an oil leak cause well by now 9 bottles of oil in 7 weeks time have been put in, the mechanic told me the engine is burning the oil too fast. He said something about the piston, but I got all confused. He also said that the only way to fix this is to replace the engine, but he recommended not to cause it would cost more than the car is worth. This is a 2000 Toyota Corolla. Why this is happening and what i should do about it.

Toyota - Corolla :: 2000 - Engine Spinning Like It Is In Second Gear When Come To A Full Stop

I had to really hard brake today over a very very short distance...the tires locked and the car slid for about 5 feet. Car is 2000 corolla, 4-spd auto.

As soon as I came to a full stop, I notice the engine was still "spinning" like it was in second gear...because the RPM was around 1000rpm (idle is 650). As soon as I started moving, there was a slight clunk noise (sounded like it came from CV half axle/transmission).

Although rare, This also happened a couple of times before when hard braking. It downshifts to 2.. idles around 1000rpm for a couple of seconds... and then there is a "slight" clunk noise.

Other than this, the transmission/engine has been very smooth and the car has no problems.

Toyota - Corolla :: 2000 - While Slightly Press Gas Pedal Engine RPMs Jumps

Car is a 2000 Corolla CE.

When going at the desired speed (say 40mph) and there is lots of coasting room, I just let go off the accelerator and the car basically coasts. The engine RPM drops from 1600-1800 down to 900-1000 and it actually can coast a long way. Sometimes, I need to go faster (if I'm initially started at a slower speed) and when I press the gas pedal slightly, the tachometer shows the engine rpm jumps from the coasting 900-1000 to 1600-1800.

Is the tachometer (add on by ScanGuage) reporting it correctly? Is this a bad form of acceleration for the engine?

Toyota - Corolla :: 2000 - Check Engine Light Reading PO171 / PO172 And PO420

My Toyota Corolla 2000, 123,000 miles, Mass license plate, still getting 34 miles per gallon, has had check engine light on and off for a year.Failed inspection this June.

First garage in Somerville, without doing more than getting the three readings above, said catalytic converter was needed $350 plus labor.I was unable to do the work then and returned to NYC and job. Took to another mechanic recently to get fixed (as I wasn't returning to Mass for a while)and got only PO 171. I mentioned the other readings; they kind of scoffed it off.Trying to save me money (I guess), they cleaned the MAF filter and fuel ejectors for $200. Looked like it was fixed. A week later check engine light came on again and when I brought in found the PO 420 reading. They did not tell me if other computer read-outs were coming up as well.

Now they want to leave the oxygen sensor in front but change the one behind. Put in a newcatalytic converter $539 {they had quoted me $238 but it wasn't an OEM one I guess and they said they wouldn't warranty anything but this expensive one), charge me$137 for the oxygen sensor190 laborplus taxfor a total of a whooping $946!

I am afraid they will do this very expensive job and the check engine light will come on and htey will say o its something else.how can i be sure? also I was reading for a catalytic converter to go bad, something has caused it...what would that be? how to find out. Do they need to do the diagnosis with gas analyzer etc?

Why I spend a huge amount for an old car that is running well, not losing gas mileage, but perhaps is a bit slower on power.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: 2zr-fe Developed A Tick When Engine Is Under Load

I have a 2009 Corolla XLE with 207,000 miles on it. For the past few thousand miles, the car has developed a tick when the engine is under load. It cannot be heard when the transmission is in Neutral. The car runs fine at driving speeds, but often idles rough and even dies at stop signs. A local shop says that it needs a timing chain and a phaser. Most of these miles are easy highway miles, I am a little disappointed that the engine would need such a big repair. Anyway, the Haynes Manual claims that the manufacturer recommends pulling the engine / transaxle assembly before changing the timing chain. Need changing the timing chain sprockets with the engine in the car?

Ford - Explorer :: 2000 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Persistently / Engine Stumbles And Has Poor Acceleration

I have a 2000 Explorer 4.0 SOHC that I'm having a persistent problem of cylinder 3 misfire. I've changed plugs with Motorcraft plugs set to the proper gap, put on new wires and have checked the resistance across the ignition module, both primary and secondary without change. I doubt that the problem could be the ignition control module as only cylinder 3 is affected. I have Auto Enginuity that I use to read the codes, attempt a repair and then clear the codes only to have P0303 appear again. Obviously the engine stumbles and has poor acceleration.

Toyota - Sienna :: 2002 - Wobbles When Engine Is Under Load

2002 Toyota Sienna wobbles when engine under load and is more noticeable at certain speeds (like around 40 mph). The wobble is lateral in the body of the car and the steering wheel IS NOT vibrating.AutoMD web site suggests it may be the motor mounts. I did their diagnostic suggestion of putting the car in gear with the emergency brake on and foot on brake .. and revving the engine and letting up. I didn't notice a "knock" when the torque was released on the engine.My local mechanic is stymied ... says he checked the motor mounts, and front end mechanics and they are OK ...

Toyota - Matrix :: 2004 - Engine / Transmission Noise Under Greater Load?

I have a 2004 Toyota Matrix, 5 spd manual with 175,000 miles. It's been a great car, but about 4 months ago I noticed more noise than usual from the engine compartment. It sounds like someone dropped a noisy diesel engine in there! The noise is most noticeable on the highway when the engine is under greater load (e.g. up hill). The dealer told me it's the belt tensioner. I had that replaced, but the noise is still there, and it's getting worse. I recently had the car completely serviced, full tune up, transmission fluid changed, etc.

Toyota - Corolla :: 2000 - Wheel Hop - Vibration At 60 To 70 Mph

I have a 2000 Corolla with 51k miles that I bought a couple of months ago.

Things I replaced:- both front ball joints- both front CV axles (half shaft)...previous left front one was leaking- all struts (complete struts that included coil, strut, mount)- all sway bar end links- 4 new tires (only put 200 miles on them)- balance and alignment - Firestone checked for bent rims - none found- Made sure all 4 PSI levels are 30

Before the new tires, there was a vibration at 60-70mph, after the new tires, there is a vibration at 40-50..seems to go away at 60-70mph. When braking, the steering wheel shimmied (turn left/right short distances rapidly)...replacing the ball joints fixed that....the mechanic also tightened the front control arms..that could've fixed it too.

When going very slowly over a flat road, I can feel the front left tire "hop" very slightly. By hop, I mean that it is not round like (seems like a high spot). I jacked all 4 wheels and checked for any amount of play - none.

Could this be an out of balance (even though I put 4 new tires) or control arm issue? Maybe the control arm bushings are gone and it allows vertical movement during load?

When turning the steering wheel left, it also makes a "pop" sound which is definitely coming from the strut mount area...might be related.

Toyota - Corolla :: 2000 - Proper Way To Brake Without ABS?

My 2000 Corolla CE does not have ABS, I've heard the correct way to brake is to pump the brakes. Toyota :: Corolla 2000 Using Too Much Oil - Leaking Head Gasket?

I have a 2000 Toyota corolla with about 170,000 miles and it is using about one quart of oil every 500 miles. The last couple places I took it to said the compression was bad in the number 4 cylinder. Another place said it was a leaking head gasket. Which is most likely, and is it worth getting it repaired given its age and mileage?
