My trusted Volvo mechanic can't figure this out. Shortly after starting my car, there is a clacking noise that seems to be coming from an area near the glove compartment. It lasts for several minutes and then stops. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the car. I've had it serviced, but can't figure out what causes this noise.
View 2 RepliesFor the last two days I've had a very intermittent (tck, tck, tck) sound coming from what sounds like the glove compartment area. It has a rep rate of around three times a second and is very regular. It sounds like a relay to me. It has only lasted less than 20 seconds on each occurrence so don't have time to troubleshoot. I took that area apart and I see two 12volt 25 amp what look like relays just to the right of the glove compartment. I've left that area torn apart so if it happens again I can feel the relays and get it down to one-and or eliminate them as the cause of the noise.
View 1 RepliesThe passenger side of my jeep accumulates water when it rains. (leaking Sunroof) I remove the water as soon as possible, however Lately it has developed problems starting. There is a clicking sound that is coming from under the glove compartment or maybe the fuse box in the same area. Is it possible that the fuse box could be causing the shortage and my next question is can this problem detected/ corrected, by rewiring entire box or damaged wires? I love my Black Beauty, very little problems and only 112, 000 miles.
View 4 RepliesI hear clicking noise on my 2006 vw passat 2.0 T. The noise comes from the passenger side, sounds like it coming from under the glove department, but i cannot be exactly sure. It does clicking when i start the engine and after a minute it clicks .. ( about 5-6 clicks. not very loud but you can hear them. )
Also the clicking noise appears when I drive ... but it's hard to hear, and when i slow down or when i"m at the complete stop. It does not appears all the time, but randomly happens.
1997 Acura Cl 2.2 ... Ticking noise coming from the dash board and glove box area ( sounds like blinker ticking noise).
View 1 RepliesI've had the GX for a few months now and love it. Over the past couple of weeks I've started to notice a rattle coming from the glove compartment. Its not something inside as i can get it to stop if I apply a little pressure. How to fix other than some weather stripping? I have it in for the 70k maintenance next week and may try to see if they will fix it under CPO warranty.

View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 RX350 and recently noticed rattling sound coming from inside the glove compartment.
I think it comes from the plastic cover of the aircon filter at the back of the glove compartment. This cover seems bit loose even when installed back properly and the vibration (especially when driving over uneven roads) is causing the rattling sound.
I know it's a minor problem but the rattling sound can get irritating at times. My temporary fix is to push back the heavy owner's manual on that cover to prevent vibration.
In my 2013 Elantra, sometimes I hear the squeaky fan noise coming from under the glove compartment when i turned on the heat and it sounds like a cricket. It started around 1 week ago.. Also, rattling problem on the passenger side near around seatbelt.
View 36 RepliesMy G6 is in great condition, except that starting a few or two ago a relatively loud clicking noise (one or two clicks per second) from behind the glove compartment started up once I turn on the engine. The weird thing I've noticed is when and how often it happens. 25% of the time it doesn't click at all when you start it. No matter what, if you drive at least 30 minutes it'll stop. And finally, the clicking only happens when the defroster is on; if you turn on normal heat and press the air recirculator, it stops immediately.
View 3 RepliesThe last few days I have been getting this strange sound from the Glove Box / Air-Bag area on the passenger side. It only takes place when the car is running. It happens about every 10 minutes or so. Chattering is the only way to explain it. It is not overly loud but everyone in the car can hear it. Kind of paranoid that it is something up with the air-bag.

I recently started noticing a quiet set of rapid clicks/clacks sound coming from engine compartment/firewall area more or less on driver side. I'm not sure if it was there all along or if I just began noticing it.
It occurs after starting the car, putting it in drive and as soon as I let off the brakes and begin rolling. It might only happen going forward. I will have to notice if it does it in reverse.
It happens rapidly and stops and I don't hear it again until I repeat the steps above after the car has sat a while. I don't believe it will do it again, if say, after doing it once I stop, put it into park and then back into drive and go.
I don't believe it's the CV joints. It does it once and stops and is not related to movement of the steering wheel. It almost reminds me of a relay switching something.
I'll also add that I had a 1995 Prizm and 2000 Corolla that did the same thing. Both were manual transmissions. The click they made was much louder though their cabins were not sealed as well as the Camry. The clicks would happen only after the car had sat a while as soon as the car first started rolling and then would stop. Could it be the same thing in all three cars?
I have a 2013 Prius II with 35,000 miles we bought certified used from a dealer 1 year ago. When I turn the AC on, there is sometimes a louder than normal noise from the front right of the engine compartment area. Not right near the surface - seems to be coming from a little deeper in the engine compartment. If it is present, it starts when AC is turned on and stops a half second after the AC is turned off. Can't get it to repeat for dealer service tech yet (of course). I recorded the sound and played it for the tech who told me to check pink coolant levels in both reservoirs and then bring in to dealer. Thought it could be a dry or malfunctioning pump of some kind? Today I smelled a slight burning smell when the AC was turned on. No check engine light, AC seems to be working fine. My wife thinks the noise may have also been there when the heat was turned on but I cannot verify.
View 20 RepliesMy 2006 Mazda 3 (2.3 engine) has been producing some new "ticking/clacking" sounds. They seem to be coming from underneath the car (nope, no critters there), seem to last for only the first 1/4 mile, seem to let up after I apply the brakes a time or two. The also increase in frequency as the car speeds up, making me suspect something wheel-related.
Naturally, when I dropped it off at the garage, the techs could not replicate the sound. As I drove off the premises, it kicked up again, but by the time I went around the freakin' block to show the techs, the sound had stopped! I suspect the car is playing with me. It has 100600 miles on it...
My 2005 Hyundai Elantra starts immediately, but you hear a clacking noise coming from the right side of the engine. It stops when the car warms up. It sounds as if some part is slapping or banging against something in the engine. The car starts and runs just fine. There is no hesitation at all while driving or when stopped at traffic light.
View 3 RepliesMy 2011 Prius plus made a growling noise from the front right engine compartment area the other day. Yesterday as I drove it to work...it stopped growling and the A/C stopped blowing cool air. The volume of air from the vents is the same, just no A/C.

View 8 RepliesI just bought a 2005 RX300. It has a DVD in the glove compartment, which is not originally from Lexus, connected with the navigation screen.
When I turn it on, it starts playing the disc. But I cant find how to activate it on the navigation screen. I don't get any audio as well.
Tried the MD1 button, but it plays my flash drive, which is also in the glove compartment. Also tried CD button in different ways.
I know it is individual depending on how they install these, but what to try? There is also an remote for the DVD, but also doesn't seem to do anything about getting the audio and video on the screen.
How to re-tighten the door. Mine is loose and when closed there's some gap.
View 3 RepliesI own a 2004 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD. I have noticed that usually when I am driving and it starts to rain heavily, there is a loud siren sound coming from the engine area. This sound stays till it doesn't stop to rain. Also, if I don't step on the accelerator, the sound goes away. I have taken it to the dealership a couple of times but haven't been able to replicate the sound.
View 18 RepliesI have a 2003 Volvo C70 that I've owned since 2004. In February, I ordered struts for the front with all the trimmings, (spring seat, strut mount, bump stop, etc) from FCP Euro. The struts were Sachs 553-058, which are supposed to be as good if not better than the original struts. I installed them myself, meticulously following the instructional video FCP publishes on YouTube. Installation went very smoothly. Afterwards, I noticed a rattle/knock coming from the right front when I drove over a bump or rough area.
I took it to a local tire/brake place that I have a good bit of confidence. After driving the car, the guy says, "You gotta bad strut!" Called FCP. They sent me a new strut. I installed it and sent the other back. Sounded a LOT better—for about two weeks. Now I am hearing the sound on both sides. I took it to a very reputable Volvo mechanic, I have used since the warranty expired. He drove it, confirmed the sound was not normal. We put it on the lift and he checked everything on the front suspension and was stumped. He said there was nothing wrong with my installation, no problem with the suspension.
Okay, FCP has an unconditional satisfaction guarantee, so I could replace these with a more expensive strut for say $50 more, but is the problem with the struts? I would hate to have to do this installation again and still have the same problem.
