HIV :: OraQuick Accuracy At 6 Weeks?

Feb 10, 2016

I am a 21 year old female and I recently found out that my boyfriend has been unfaithful. He and I had unprotected sex (vaginal, oral) on January 1st. When I found out he cheated, I immediately freaked out and became overwhelmed with the thought that I maybe contracted an STD. I made an appointment at Planned Parenthood and was given an OraQuick oral swab. Now it's been just under 6 weeks since my possible "exposure". I tested negative, which relieved me to a degree. How accurate is this? I know there is the 12 week window, but I'm hoping to get some further relief. I have zero symptoms of any kind of disease, and I don't really think my boyfriend has anything either. He agreed to be tested, too.

HIV :: Oraquick - Accuracy And False Negative?

Before Aug 19th 2015 I had an exposure (oral sex without condoms and also I had shaved my genital and I felt some liquid coming out from the girl on me). I got tested with Oraquick on Dec 18th 2015 and Dec 21st 2015. Both results were negative.

My questions are:

1) Is Oraquick accurate in this situation?
2) how could I understand the accuracy of 91.7% for false negatives?

HIV Prevention :: Oraquick Accuracy At 83 Days?

I got a negative oraquick test at home on day 83 after a possible exposure. Is it safe for me to consider this a good-to-go or shall I test again on day 90?

HIV Prevention :: Oraquick At 4 Months And Accuracy

I just posted about my exposure and decided to do a home saliva swab test,  Oraquick at 4 months post exposure and I think I did it correctly because after 20 minutes I only got one line at the "C"which according to the test is negative.  Should I follow up with blood tests?  I hope I swabbed my mouth correctly!

Oraquick Test Accuracy - Causes Of 8% False Negative?

So my story goes, between 5-10 years ago I had a few(approximately 4) unprotected sexual encounters. I never gave it a second thought as I was young and invincible plus, I had no reason to doubt the women I was with. Recently I started getting worried that I may have contracted hiv at some point during that time; a highly unlikely and unreasonable fear, but none the less it has been causing me extreme anxiety. Last week I decided to take an oraquick at home test and the results came back negative, easing my mind at that time. I then began to wonder if I preformed the test to the exact specifications (I was worried I may have drank some water in the 30 minute window before testing). So again, I went and bought another test, was sure not to drink for an hour before and again got a negative result.

My mind was at ease until I read that these tests have an 8% chance of false negative; which is strange because its the same test administered in clinics with 99% accuracy. My question: are the causes of false negatives typically due to user error or testing before the window period is up? Do I have anything to worry about?

I am considering taking another test or perhaps going to get a rapid blood test. I know my odds of being positive are extremely low but I keep focusing on the what if. Please help and thank you!

P.s. already in the process of scheduling an appointment to figure out this irrational anxiety.

HIV Prevention :: Oraquick At 4 Weeks

I had an unprotected exposure, therefore I took an in home Oraquick HIV test, at 24 days and at 30 days after exposure both were negative. I plan on taking a 6 week and 12 week HIV test as well. How likely is it for my test to change to a positive? Has anyone seen a four week HIV test done with Oraquick oral swab change by week 6 or later?

HIV Prevention :: Oraquick 5 Weeks

I had encounter with a CSW 4.5 weeks ago. I did not have intercourse with her but we did partake in mutual masterbation. I never touched her; however, she did touch herself and then me. She did put a condom on me but I am worried she had vaginal fluids on her hand before she did it. I can't stop worrying about it. 1.5 weeks ago at the 3 week mark I had back pain and back of my knee pain and aching and I was also very tired for about two days. The pain has somewhat gone away but now I have some in my upper chest arm pit area. I don't feel any swollen lymph nodes and no fever. I took an Oraquick at the 3 week and recently 4 week mark. Both were negative. Is this a good indication of my status or am not out of the woods yet? I have read multiple pages saying that Advanced Oraquick is within 2 days of a Rapid Gen 3 Blood test now which usually detects at 3 weeks. However if my symptoms at week 3 were ARS would it have tested positive at week 4?

HIV Prevention :: Oraquick Test At 6 Weeks?

3 months is a very long time to wait for a test and very anxiety provoking. I understand that one can do a blood test in  a shorter amount of time but I have a fear of needles (and also a fear of the oraquick test as well) but I suppose I would feel more comfortable with Oraquick than a needle being put in me.

How accurate would Oraquick be at detecting antibodies at 6 weeks? What other non-needle related tests are out there that can be performed with good accuracy at 6 weeks? Also, are urine tests just not used to screen HIV anymore? If so, why not? Are they innacurate?

Negative OraQuick Testing At 10 Weeks?

I had unprotected sex with a CSW of unknown status. I got a rapid test using finger blood at 9 weeks, the result was non-reactive. And another OraQuick testing at 10 weeks, the result was non-reactive as well. Is this a good indicator of my 13 weeks result?

Also, CDC recommended to test at 3 months and even up to 6 months - I took
Isotretinoin a couple years ago as this drug was originally designed to treat skin cancer.. I was wondering if this will delay seroconversion?

Should I keep testing until 6 months after the exposure?

HIV Symptoms But Oraquick Negative 6 / 12 Weeks AND 6 / 12 Months

I had a exposure with HIV and tested like you are suppose to but now I quest if I used the right test. I tested at 6 weeks 12 weeks 6 months and 12 months all negative using Oraquick oral swab test.

In the past year I have had many infections that I normally don't get and had a rash and sore throat for about 12 past 8 days after the incident.

Now I have 2 cuts that won't heal after weeks. I get canker sores constantly and I never got them before and I don't have a appetite and lost 12 pounds over the last 6 months. Everything points to hiv and I wonder if I am one of the people that don't have enough antibodies to detect in my oral fluids area for the test.

Do I need another test or is this true? accurate at 1 year.

HIV Prevention :: Oraquick 12 Weeks (85 Days) Conclusive?

During my trip to Asia last Aug/Sept this year, I have the following exposures:

1) Aug 27 in China, I have sex with CSW. Protected Oral & Vaginal. My risk for this encounter was: I touched her vaginal fluid, then use that hand to open the condom. Unfortunately, when I was trying to put the condom on, it was the wrong end, so I have to turn inside out. The vaginal fluid probably contacts the head of my penis. Also, when I was done with ejaculation, I withdrew and found the condom was still hanging outside of her vagina. The condom's ring still outside of her vagina tho, I didn't have to fish to get it out. When I pull it out and checked, all my *** was inside the condom.

2) sept 4 in Thailand, protected oral and vaginal sex (No risk from what I read from the forum)

3) sept 5 in Thailand, she performed unprotected oral on me, but protected vaginal sex

4) sept 6 in Thailand, unprotected oral, I licked her vagina, but protected vaginal

5) sept 8 in Vietnam, she performed unprotected oral on me, but protected vaginal sex

My test and symptoms after back US on sept 11

* out of panic, Sept 14, went to my GP and ask for full panel STD test include CBC HIV (I believe ELISA 3rd from Kaiser). All came back normal and Negative. I know this is useless for early HIV test

* Starting week 5 - Oct 7, I started to have big stomach upset. Abdominal pain, lot of gases for 3 straight days. I went to hospital, they performed blood test and found nothing abnormal and no H. Pylori bacterial found either. So, my GP told I probably have Gastritis & IBS. So, out of panic again, I ask for another ELISA antibody test from Kaiser. It came out Negative. But, the stomach problem still lingering until now.

* starting week 6 - I have postnasal drip and cough until now. The cough is probably cause by the drip.

* Week 7 - I noticed white patches on my tongue. I went to GP, he swabbed my tongue and tested. It confirmed that I was light candida albicans growth. But, I looked at oral thrush from the internet, mine is just a light white film coating, no hurt or pain when I swallow. I can easily brush it off at night when I brush my teeth. Again, I asked my GP for another test, actually 2 test, one is standard ELISA antibody and the other rapid antibody on the same day. All came back NEGATIVE.

So far I do not have fever, rash, swollen lymph node or night sweat.

* from that on, I have tested with Oraquick swab for the week of 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11, 11.5, 12 (85 days). All NEGATIVE.

My Questions:

1) please help assess my risk. Which one I have the most risk?

2) With my ELISA 3rd Gen blood test at week 5 and 7 and all my oraquick swab tests including 12 weeks (85 days), can it be considered conclusive?

3) Is oraquick swab at home reliable at 12 weeks? should I continue further testing with blood test?

Accuracy Of HIV 1 P24 Antigen /HIV -1/2 Antibody Screening?

I recently conducted Accuracy for HIV 1 p24 antigen /HIV -1/2 Antibody Screening post 18th day after the exposure. My exposure was french kissing and handjob. Can you tell me the conclusiveness of the test? Post 24 day after exposure I requested HIV RNA quantitative test which is today. What is the possibility of RNA to predict positive results? RNA testing has high chances of false positive why is that?

My symptoms:

Sore throat after 2 days after exposure which was up and down and now almost gone so far.
Headache and fatigued sometime. Earache, neck pain and lower abdomen pain. Took some antibiotics in between.

HIV :: Is Oraquick Really Reliable?

Had a possible exposure in January 2015 ...... Took a home test Oraquick on April 29 2015 and test was Negative. I was still feeling paranoid so in November 2015 I decided to go out and buy another test. Took it and it was once again Negative. So that means I tested Negative at 3 months post possible exposure and then again at 10 months post possible exposure.

The reason i'm so nervous is being I recently had an Endoscopy done and was diagnosed with Esophageal Thrush. Just about everywhere I turn to on the internet mentions HIV as a big culprit. However it also says there are other causes like diabetes and asthma medicine. I don't use any of those, but i am a big sufferer of GERD.

I'm wondering how reliable these tests are. Should I seriously quit being so paranoid?

I have not engaged in risky activities since January 2015. I've read that the test is pretty much "dummy proof" and built much like a pregnancy test where as long as you get a line on the Control line then you know it's working right.

HIV :: 9 Week Oraquick Is Accurate?

I had unprotected vaginal insertive back on11/28/2015 and 12/2/201 with the same girl. On 12/08 I was treated for Chlamydia AND LATER FOUND POSITIVE FOR IT. After a round of antibiotics it was presumably gone. However the Doxycycline caused me to experience all the ARS symptoms. After a week or so of being off they were gone. Reading over and over again about symptoms I told the girl to test and she kept saying she was negative and finally went and bought an Oraquick test at her 8 week post exposure to her ex who gave her the chlamydia and it came back negative. I was only at 4 weeks and so the wait was on. After my 9 week exposure I went and bought an Oraquick Swab test from CVS and it came back negative. I am now going on week 10 and still feel like garbage. Can I assume that my 9 week Oraquick is pretty accurate?

HIV :: Oraquick - Kit Was Used And Stick Had A Little Blood On It

I just purchased oraquick test after 3 months of unprotected sex with a female, I think that the test was used and the stick had a little blood on it. Can I get infected if there was a little of blood on when I swabbed?

Results came negative though, I'm worried that I could get infected from that.

How Long Is Too Soon And Too Late For Oraquick Test?

3.5 years ago I had unprotected vaginal sex w a male of unknown status. I tested in a clinic at 89 days w oraquick and it was negative. I tested myself at 3 years twice w at home test. Is this conclusive? I worry that the 89 days was too soon and three years was too late for antibodies.

HIV :: Oraquick - 1 Out Of 12 False Negative Rate

I've practically done it 3 times and I'm trusting my status and life with it, but check this out; If it has a 1 out of 12 false negative rate, then why the hell do they sell it? and Why the hell do people say a false positive is more likely even though the percentages of that happening are quite lower than negative? I had brief unsafe sex with a high risk girl for maybe around 1 minute and a half and then I withdrew because I knew I was being stupid, I've been tested using oraquick at 10, 11, and 12 weeks after and all negative, on forums and stuff I've seen terrible posts of the test not picking up the antibodies well after the window period but people are saying 8 weeks after exposure in nearly certain of you negative result with THIS test. So basically im very lost, any input?
