Hypothyroidism Congenital :: Born Without A Thyroid

Oct 12, 2010

I am a normal, healthy 28 year old with a beautiful 8 month old daughter - I was born without a thyroid (picked up on the heel prick test introduced in Wales 82) and have been monitored all my life and also have been on different dosages of thyroxine throughout my life so far! My daughter is absolutely perfect and has thankfully not got CH. I was fine at school (a bit of a daydreamer and a bit forgetful) but I still came out the other side with 11 GCSE's, 3 A-levels and a degree! We are no different to any one else, as long as we are on the right dosage and judging by the way that I've been monitored, this shouldn't ever be a huge issue!

Hypothyroidism :: Several Complex Nodule On Thyroid

I have hypothyroidism and for some time have felt this presence deep in my throat, sometimes it aches and it's Definitely hard to swallow dry foods. My doctor sent me for a scan where these nodules were discovered and they attempted a biopsy.this proved awkward as the larger nodule is beside the carotid vein. However the scan results were sent to the doctor who has made an urgent referral to surgical. The biopsy results aren't back yet. Anyone know what I should expect.am I possibly looking at cancer/ surgery?

Hypothyroidism :: Levothyroxine For Underactive Thyroid

During a routine blood test in August I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid. I wasn't feeling ill so was quite surprised when I read the symptoms. I've been on Levothyroxine for 3 months now and I feel terrible. I'm so drained and exhausted, angry and frustrated, bloated, fat, stomach pains and unhappy, I keep going back to the doctor but she just pops me more pills and I don't feel she is very understanding or sympathetic. I didn't feel this bad before I started the medication so I'm going to stop it. I was placed on 50mg and two weeks later my blood tests were normal and have been since so for such a small dose does it really matter? I'm so low, sometimes it's all too much I want to have a paddy and a tantrum and smash the place up and if anyone gets in my way then they'll get it too.

The doctor wants me to try CBT self help courses to understand what troubles me. When I'm not having some kind of flip out I know what troubles me - things are a struggle and I hate being ill and I want to be better.

Hypothyroidism :: Autoimmune Attacked Thyroid

For the last 6 months illness has progressively become worse. Having been tooing and froing the doctors, yesterday i had the diagnosis of Autoimmune attacked thyroid. I know nothing much about the illness. I've been given 50ml dosage of Levothyroxine to take daily. The question i have is this. For the best part of the last 6 months i have been unable to walk properly or without pain 80% (thereabouts) of the time. I spend most of my time being asleep. Im in chronic pain with my joints (been tested for various arthritis, but nothing showing in tests) Is there any possibility the the pain and exhaustion are connected with the Thyroid issue? My doc said i should start to feel a little better soon, but seems perplexed by my exhaustion and chronic pain.

Thyroid Disorders :: Subclinical Hypothyroidism?  Why My Reverse T3 Is Low?

This is my lab results:
TSH      = 2.91 (0.45 - 4.5)
T4         = 3.0   (4.5 - 12.0) -- low
Free T4 = 1.05 (0.82 - 1.77)
Free T3 = 2.6  (2.0 - 4.4)
Rev  T3 = 8.2 (9.2 - 24.1)

I have all the hypothyroidism symptoms like fatigue, cold hands & feet, losing hair & eyebrow, brain fog.  I was tested for thyroid antibodies (TBA & TPO), and they are all negative. Recently I have increased my carbs intake and felt much better.  I believe I also have adrenal fatigue as my daily cortisol cycle are inverted so I wake up several times during sleep.

My question is do I have subclinical hypothyroidism?  Why my reverse T3 is low?  Or I have iodide deficiency?

Bisoprolol :: SVT Due To Lifestyle Or Congenital?

Hi all,

about 4 weeks ago I was at our caravan with my family. At quarter to one in the morning, I started sweating profusely; tingling in arms and my heart was pacing very fast. I had no choice but to call an ambulance. On the ambulance they queried SVT and AF??

once at a and e they gave me Adenosine, which was awful. They then gave me another drug IV. After 7 hours! My heartbeat returned to a much more acceptable beat. I was then discharged on 10 mg Bisoprolol. Subsequent visits to hospital with "apparent" heart complaints and a combination of other physical problems a number of individuals have said that they thought 10mg was a bit on the high side?

since then I have developed an unwanted byproduct. I believe to be suffering from some sort of anxiety disorder. I don't believe I'm suffering from any side effects - apart from a slow pulse of 48, which my partner is somewhat concerned about, but I believe that is a result of the bisoprolol. I do feel a little "heavy" and "non energetic" but other than that just a feeling of being a little scared.

i get my 24hour ECG tape next Friday and hopefully an appointment with the cardiologist for a definitive diagnosis.

what I want to know is, is SVT a result of lifestyle and can I do something about it or is a congenital problem and there's nothing I can do about it and it was going to happen anyway.

Son Suffered From Eczema About A Month After He Was Born

I have a son that has suffered from eczema about a month after he was born. I would say to this day he learned to walk at the young age of 8 months so he could get to better objects to scratch himself. He was and still is covered in it, however it is not as bad now as it was when we got to six weeks old. At six weeks my son did not have a patch of clear skin on him, his hair was stuck to his head so you could not even brush his hair (it would bleed if you did), he had lots of creams and was bandaged from head to foot!! as the years have gone on his skin has not got much better. he can brush his hair now!! However the amount of bullying he has suffered, the weight he has put on (maybe a bit of depression) this all contributed to another problem from the weight gain his hip basically is coming apart so he has had to have it pinned and is now in a wheelchair, this will be for some time as he is due to have more surgery. But my lovely boy still to this day 14 years on still has a smile on his face and we have a good relationship. in my sons words. horribly painful, waking up with fresh cuts, never a good night's sleep. the picking on. people think you should stop scratching but you can't when you are asleep, The constant itching, the creams hurt and don't help. blood over clothes and bed sheets. my son suffers every day, he also has very bad asthma he gets hay fever, but on the whole stress triggers it off. he did live on a diet of just salad and fruit it helps for a while. But the bullying got worse and that triggered it back off again, now he won't have salads at school even though it helps and he likes them. We count ourselves lucky we have each other to lean on and get through it, He has the help of his brother, unfortunately his dad found it hard to cope with so he is not around much. We do not have much family support as we live in New Zealand now. But my son is very bright has a wonderful whit and is a kindhearted young man in the making and that is what keeps us going.

Thyroid :: Nodule - Homogeneous Appearance To The Echotexture Of The Thyroid Gland

I had an ultrasound today and it says that there is "a homogeneous appearance to the echotexture of the thyroid gland. Bilateral thyroid nodules are observed. There is evidence of a complex cystic and solid lower pole right thyroid nodule measuring 1.8 x 1.0 x 0.9 cm. Within the left thyroid lobe there is evidence of a hypoechoic midpole left thyroid nodule measuring 0.6 x 0.4 x 0.7 cm. Bilateral thyroid nodules. Dominant nodule is a complex cystic and solid lower pole right thyroid nodule measuring up to 1.8 cm. what does this mean?

Thyroid :: Natural Ways To Dissolve Thyroid Nodules

I have 3 thyroid nodules and 1 cyst. I have been advised to have a thyroidectomy. I do not want to go this route yet and am searching for some natural remedies. I have heard of using iodine but to be careful do to the fact that that might enlarge the nodules. I recently found out that I am very iodine deficient from a lab result. I have heard of iodine trapping, whereby the iodine taken in when their is a severe deficiency is immediately 'trapped' and held in the gland in order to preserve some iodine for the use of the thyroid. I would like to proceed with caution and try the iodine therapy.

Does anyone on this board have any experience with successfully dissolving or at least reducing the nodules/cysts?

Anti-thyroid Antibodies With A Fully Functioning Thyroid

I am new to this site. I have been diagnosed as Euthyroid (antithyroid antibodies with a fully functioning thyroid) and I also have Anti-nuclear antibodies - Speckled 1:640.

I don't have Lupus as have been tested for that.

I am currently undergoing IVF and have had 2 failed rounds. I have been put on Aspirin (100 mg), Prednisolone 7.5mg a day and CoEnzyme Q10, folate and Vit B12 with no success.

I am desperately looking for anyone in my situation that can offer any sort of guidance, maybe a drug regime you are on or just anything at all. I desperately want children but it isn't looking too good. I'm terribly sad about the prospect of never having children.

Ive been trying for 3 years now and was pregnant once and miscarried at about 5 weeks back in 2011 and have never been pregnant since indicating a problem but I don't have any other issues except a low egg reserve which is from these other issues

Hypothyroidism And/with Fibromyalgia

Have had hypothyroidism for 10 yrs. 2 yrs ago started with lots of joint/pain/tenderness and extreme tiredness. Had blood tests to check thyroid function - told that my symptoms were because I was on too high a dose of levothyroxine (125mcg). Told to reduce to (100mcg). Done this. Symptoms lot worse now and just been diagnosed as having fibromyalgia but I am so tired etc. and my symptoms are very much like when I was hypo and was awaiting a diagnosis - very dry skin, hair loss etc. (I have no record of my function test results so I cannot gauge what the pattern has been) Anyone else who has hypo and has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia? I cannot help but wonder if my symptoms are more to do with inadequate treatment for hypothyroid than fibromyalgia. Any ideas please?

Hypothyroidism :: Anion Gap Is Low (3)

I have hypothyroidism and take Synthroid daily. Recent blood work done in Dec. 2015, shows that my anion gap is low (3) - normal range is (5-15 mmol/L) My protein serum is 5.9 within the normal range of 5.6 - 7.9 g/dl and albumin is 3.7 with a range of 3.5 - 4.9 g/dl. These tests did show that I have iron deficiency anemia, and the CBC panel had lots of highs and lows. When I looked back over blood results that I had done a year ago, my anion gap was 7 and I now noticed my Vitamin D level was insufficient (22 ng/ml). Other than the iron deficiency, my doctor hasn't addressed any of these other results. Last years blood tests were done at my request because I had concerns about recurring sinus infections, and I had mentioned to the the doctor that my grandmother, her son and her brother all died of multiple myeloma.  The IgA test done last year was in the normal range (271 mg/dl)  Should I have additional blood work and if so what tests should be done?

Thyroid :: Do Thyroid Cysts Go Away?

I have a benign 1.4 cm cyst in the middle part of my thyroid (isthmus). It is visible in my neck. The doctor said to remove it would require to take out my thyroid and since it is benign he wants to watch to see if it gets bigger. Currently it is not causing me any problems. Has anyone had this same thing, and if so, what did you do? Also, do the cysts ever get smaller or go away on their own?

Hypothyroidism At 14 - Levothyroxine Forever

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 14, and since then i have been taking Levothyroxine to help with it. I am wondering, will I need to take levothyroxine forever? Or is there a fix for thyroid problems? I don't see my weight going down at all, or my thyroid level. My doctor has been increasing the dosage of my levothyroxine, and has three times now. I recently got Levothyroxine in 0.137mg dosage, and it smells terrible. My old ones were 0.125mg. Is this a very small change, and will it even do anything?
