Orthopedics :: Radial Head Was Fractured But Not Displaced

Sep 16, 2014

I got into an accident and my radial head was fractured but not displaced. After 3 weeks of back-slab I did X ray again and it was partially healed. I did some exercises for a few days but I can't move the arm freely and make it straight. However I have no pain but little bit swelling.

Orthopedics :: Fractured Humerus (midshaft), Elbow And Radial Nerve Damage

I had a fall on june 17th 2014. Fell about 20 feet onto a concrete floor. I fractured the humerus, fairly simple fracture straight across the midshaft, no surgery. fracture to the elbow, and got radial nerve damage.

It is now week 14 and although the nerves are back and my wrist is fully functional, both fractures are yet to heal, the humerus fracture is fairly straight, and some callous is appearing, but there is still movement in the fracture site. And the elbow still shows a fracture.

I now have an electromagnetic device to help with the healing, 30 mins a day i can use it for.

Just wanted to know if anyones had success with one?

Also seeing as i broke the elbow the arm has been held in a sling this whole time, without straightening of the arm, so the inside of my elbow is getting very inflamed, but not painful yet, anything i can do to help it?

Radial Nerve Palsy Following Fractured Humerus

I suffered radial nerve palsy following surgery for broken humerus 9 weeks ago. The break area has recovered well but im still completely numb around parts of my elbow, thumb and top of my hand. I have only a slight grip and my elbow bends only at a 90 degree angle-Ive heard some numbing never recovers so could this be part of the reason i cant grip or bend?I know it takes 6-12 months for full recovery but im finding the physio very hard and should i be pushing these areas so much? Both areas are as swollen as they were 9 weeks ago which is another concern. Has anyone been through anything similar?

Orthopedics :: Femer Neck Got Fractured, Shortening Of Leg

I had met with an accident and my femur neck got fractured and 3 screws have been put for support. After 3 months of surgery we observed that there is a shortening of leg of 3 cm. (the reason is the hip angle gone up ie Coxa Vara). Is there any solution/remedy for this other than hip replacement?

Comminuted Displaced Tib Fib Fracture - Lot Of Leg And Knee Pain

On Feb 7th I was involved in a pedestrian vs auto. I was the pedestrian hit at about 45 mph and had multi system trauma. I had a right comminuted displaced proximal Tib Fib Fx which was repaired with an IM rod. I have a lot of knee pain, leg pain, and my knee pops in and out. I still have a lot of pain and difficulty walking at times. It is painful to extend my leg. Is this to be expected? Do you ever remove IM rods?

Unable To Bend - Comminuted Displaced Fracture To The Patella

My kneecap was smashed into more than 10 pieces and was a displaced fracture. I had surgery on July 26th involving pins screws and figure of 8 wire to rebuild my kneecap. I was in a straight splint for two weeks and then a two piece cast with an adjustable steel brace. I spent the first 4 weeks with the brace set at 30 degrees then 60 degrees and 90 degrees for the final 4 weeks. I'm into my 5th week without the cast and I am walking unaided with a slight limp. I go to physio every week as well as doing my own exercises at home and finding it frustrating that I can only still bend my leg 100 degrees, it seems to be stuck here with no signs of improvement. Has anyone out there suffered the same injury and fully recovered? Would be nice to know if there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Accidents / Injuries :: Fractured Ribs Now Bleeding From Below?

On Friday I fractured 2 maybe 3 ribs in a skiing accident. I had a chest X-ray and an ultrasound. I also had a brain scan due to being knocked unconscious. Nothing came up on any of the scans other than the rib fractures. Today I've started bleeding lightly from below, like the end of a period. I haven't had a period for over a year due to being on the injection and I never get any bleeding at all. I've had a bit of stomach pain and feeling sick but that's it. Should I be concerned? Could it be related?

Broken Bones :: Healing Of A Fractured Tibia

I have a spiral fracture of the Tibia. It has been fixed with a plate however the surgeon left a gap in the bones. (This gap was not present in the original x-ray prior to surgery). After 12 weeks there is no sign of the bone healing. I sort a 2nd opinion & was advised that the bone is unlikely to heal because of the gap & further surgery was recommended to join up the gap & possible a bone graft.

What is the conventional thinking on this? Should bones be fixed touching to heal?

Spinal Surgery :: Fractured Facet Joint

8 months after my L1 compression fracture, another doctor (fired the first one) found out that one of the T12 facet joints is fractured (broken off in 2 pieces). I should have been operated on after the fall, but it's too late now.

Could someone tell me what this could cause (what kind of pain)? I have local pain, and severe pain in the iliac area, after being active for a while, or after sitting for a while.

I can sleep at night, but after 5-6hrs, I wake up because of the pain, can't continue to lay down. Very painful.

also, I still can't lay down on my back on a hard surface.

I'm scheduled for a nerve ablation T12-L1, both sides this Friday and Monday. I'm scared because of all what I read...

Hip Replacement :: Fractured Greater Trochanter Bone?

After my 2nd THR {4 weeks post op to be exact} I was doing an NHS exercise when there was a crack and my leg gave way. The long and the short of it........Emergency consultant I saw said it would heal but would take a long time.......About a couple of months later I saw the consultant that has done both THR's and he said it would never heal. I would be on 2 crutches or possibly one for the rest of my life.

OK 20 months later I'm still on crutches but the main problem is that the pain has got so much worse. I'm in agony with it especially the first 3 hours or so in the morning. I've got other conditions but can cope with the pain from those....this!!! cant find anything to ease it.

I'm normally a person who is glass half full......but recently I've been very "down"  I'm seeing the consultant again on Friday 2nd October....can't come quick enough. Anyone any ideas/ suggestions/or questions for the consultant. I get on well with him but this time I'm going to have to really lay it on thick if that makes sense.

Broken Bones :: Closed Fractured Tibia Fibula IM Nailing

Background: I suffered a closed spiral fractured tibia and fibula about 1/3 up the leg in a skiing accident exactly 6 weeks ago. The fibula has a bone fragment at the break and looks as though two points of the fibula are touching with the fragment rotated 65 degrees in place. After IM nailing the tibia and leaving the fibula as is, I was put in a walking boot and given crutches, I ditched the crutches after the first 2 weeks and have been in the walking in the boot around my campus slowly but surely as instructed. I'm 21 years old and was fairly active (gym, basketball, skiing regularly and some occasional running). At 4 weeks, I started physical therapy for mostly range of motion of the ankle and some small exercises for thigh muscle. My first X-ray will be this week and the Orthopedic Surgeon ideally wants to take my boot off at the 7 week mark. I have been doing everything I'm told my Surgeon and in my PT. My goal is to be able to sprint/run/jump as soon as possible and at least by next year. My ankle is still swollen (not bruised but swollen), I would say I have maybe 30%-45% range of motion and my knee gets tight if not active for awhile, but no pain usually unless I walk A LOT during the day, which feels like having very bad growing pains with soreness.

Questions:

1) Generally is this the speed a usual Tib-Fib fracture progresses in terms of recovery?

2) My Surgeon tells me that fibulas will "heal on their own" and that "They are not that important anyway" even with the fragment, but if my fibula doesn't show signs of recovery should my boot still come off? Or should I seek a second opinion/surgery?

3) Could my early ankle ROM exercises have impaired my fibula healing process?

4) How important is a second opinion if it eventually looks like the fibula is not healing? (I believe my surgeon would tell me to take boot off and walk or just wait for healing to start)

5) Generally how long is it before someone like me is able to do leg curls, swats, leg lifting, and distance running again?

Thanks for reading! Lmk if you have any questions or comments!

Fractured Humerus Physical Therapy - Pieces Of Bone Moving Feeling

I sustained a spiral fracture of the distal third of my humerus approximately 3 and a half weeks ago. Im currently in a hard functional brace and able to let my arm hang freely at my side. I began PT earlier this week and have a few questions regarding the process. While most of the exercises are focused on maintaining range of motion and are relatively pain free, some do put small amounts of stress on the fracture site and cause discomfort. Every once in awhile I can feel the pieces of bone moving during the exercises. My arm has also swollen up a bit more (specifically my lower arm) since beginning PT. I assume this is normal. I'm more concerned with the movement of the bone. Is this cause for concern? and will excess movement hinder the bone healing process?

Head Injuries :: Puking After Hit My Head Against A Concrete Wall

Last week.. I slipped and hit my head against a concrete wall. Just layer there for a few minutes, then when I got up I started puking. I didn't think much of it. Went to school and practice for two days and was getting really light headed and haven't done physical activity since.I have been dizzy and lightheaded and everything is kind of foggy. I don't have any swelling or bruising on my head and don't have any headaches. Not sure if I have a concussion or something worse? Starting to worry if I should go to urgent care now or just schedule an appointment?

Nervous System :: Head Pressure/dizziness/head Fog

I've been having those 3 symptoms for about 2 months now. I'm a 22yo male, 6 feet tall, 160 lbs.

The head pressure was the first to show up. It feels like if someone is pressing their palm against the top of my head, its very light and 80% its not bad or painful, its just -there-, but sometimes the pressure rises up and it can be quite overwhelming, making me having to stop whatever I'm doing.

Painkillers used to work, now they don't anymore, although I think it's because I started to use them way too much.

Since about 2 weeks ago, I started to have dizziness and head fog. It's like if I'm "typsy" all the time.

This all started a few months after I had to quit my job since I'm preparing myself to live in another country, I'm short on cash and I have arguments about various things related to that almost daily, making me think that this might be an anxiety issue.

3 days ago I had to go to the hospital because my BP spiked up (180/104), and since then the pressure/head fog became 10x worse. I keep catching myself hyperventilating throughout the day, having cold sweats and hot flashes.

Thoughts keep racing in my head that I have a brain tumor and how that would wreck my life even if its a benign one.

Something that makes me feel better is that I'm not having any seizures, nose bleeds or actual real bad headache, its just a weird pressure, which calms me down a bit at the possibility that its a tumor.

Also, sleeping is the only thing that makes the pressure/dizziness go away, although it gets bad again throughout the day. Today I've tried to oversleep a bit to see if it was a sleep deprivation issue and it made the pressure better but the dizziness way worse.

I've already scheduled a cardiologist/neurologist, but I can only go friday so I still have some days to worry myself to death over this.

Orthopedics :: Clicking In Larynx

About a year ago my ex partner pushed me forcefully in the throat.  Immediately I told him that he had done something to my neck.  I gripped my throat with my hand to hold it back in place.  I had experienced a popping in my throat and knew something was wrong.  From that day to this I have had trouble swallowing my own saliva.  Eating is difficult and I stopped drinking for fear of the bone clicking out of line.  It usually happens when my head is turned to the left side and I either yawn or swallow.  This immediately causes my larynx to pop out and it is petrifying as you think you are going to die. This has caused me to have panic attacks and a fear of swallowing.  I recently had the start of kidney failure due to not drinking enough due to fear of swallowing.   When I try to swallow my own saliva I cannot complete the motion and continuously feel if I have a thick lump in my throat and to swallow I have to swallow hard which causes me to have a sharp pain in my jaw and pain going from my throat to my ear, which feels tender all the time.  This injury was reported to the police and I have now had an ultrasound and being sent for further investigations in the ENT dept.  I am waiting for an appointment now.  I have started to search the web for information on the larynx .. What does it look like, how does it work etc. and came across your site where I have read about other people having exactly he same larynx popping out problem.  It truly is frightening and gives me such discomfort and I constant reminder of the assault.  I wonder if this can be operated on to relieve the pain  and discomfort.
