Peyronie's Disease :: Length Reduced - Intercourse Impossible After Operation

Mar 28, 2015

I am in my late 50's, have full sexual drive, a willing partner.  In my late 40's I developed the classic Peyronie's curve, the doc said we can operate to fix this, there will just be a little loss of length.  Well, there was a lot of loss of length (1.5" and what's worse is the condition has returned worse than ever making intercourse almost impossible.  This is very depressing, especially as I didn't have pain, was the op worth it?

Hip Replacement :: Uneven Leg Length On 2nd THR

I'm wondering if some of you have experience with this. I had my second hip done on Wed. Jan 20, about 7 weeks after the first one. When I walked following surgery, it felt like my right foot was going into a hole with each step-- That there was a significant difference in leg length. Everything else went fine although my dressing is larger than the first time. Surgeon wasn't at all defensive when I saw him the next morning. He listened to my concerns, said he thought legs were good and told me to give it 6 weeks for swelling to go down and that it usually resolves.(No mention of why there was so much more swelling this time.) I came home Thursday afternoon and am keeping ice on it and doing exercises. It maybe has changed a little bit but whole hip feels so lumpy and bumpy and it's as if I can feel the new joint inside which I never did before.

I like and trust my Dr. and intellectually I knew it might be different this go round but it is disconcerting nonetheless and makes me fearful and blue. I have no stomach for additional surgery. So, I know it's premature but I am seeking reassurance if anyone has lived with this.

Knee :: 2 Weeks TKR - Bend Seems Almost Impossible

I had a total knee replacement two weeks ago. Progress is OK though still very painful. I'm doing all of my exercises including trying to bend my knee. This is painful but also seems almost impossible! The operated knee is still about three times the size of the good knee and I keep thinking something will snap if I push it too far back! I'm left to do my physio until I get assessed by the physio team in six weeks' time. I can bend the knee about 50% at the moment. Any tips/experiences as to how long this might take?

I got the knee high boot to wear, I'm still non-weight bearing. He wants me to sleep in it but sleep is impossible. How vitally important is the boot to the bone healing? i wear the boot all day.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica Effects Reduced With Alcohol

I had an interesting experience during the 8 weeks I was untreated and misdiagnosed for PMR a year ago. I am a light drinker, but after 4 weeks of debilitating pain in more joints than not, I decided to go out on Cinco de Mayo (Mexican celebration) and try to numb my pain. From 6 pm to 10 pm I consumed the equivalent of 8 oz. of tequila, 4 straight, 4 in margaritas, with mexican food. Came home, still in pain, went to bed. Awoke @ 4 am, no longer significantly intoxicated, got up, and walked around with NO pain. The reduction in inflammation lasted till late the next afternoon. This temporary reduction in pain and inflammation pushed me to search harder for a remedy. I had lost hope. Please check my bio for additional info, if you like. I have since found additional data that  alcohol users have significantly reduced rates of Rheumatoid. I do not suggest alcohol as a remedy, but I have no idea what the mechanism was that suppressed my inflammation. Could this be a path or clue to mitigation of PMR outside of prednisone?? Anyone have any similar experiences? Was it the alcohol, and or maybe the  agave (source plant for tequila)?? It was not drunkenness, there was a definite repression of inflammation. I did not try it again, as I don't like to drink that much. Lower doses (2-3 oz.) did not have the same effect.

Pain In Right Side Of Neck After Reduced Dose Of Thyroxine

I am a 50 year old woman who was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid 18 years ago. I have never been right as the Dr keeps changing my dose every time I have a blood test. He says this sometimes happens, but I constantly feel lousy, tired spotty, overweight, high blood pressure (now medicated) and IBS. I work all week and spend the weekend in bed.The mood swings are also awful. Since another reduction I am now on 100mcg and have developed an unusual pain in the lower front right hand side of my neck (can't feel a lump or anything) but get aching through shoulder and side of head.

am really getting a bit fed up now as the Dr just doesn't seem to understand how I feel and has offered anti-depressants. I have seen a specialist in the past but he was a diabetic man rather than thyroid and actually commented on the wrong set of blood results!

i guess my plea is twofold first is there anyone else out there who has had similar symptoms and 2 can anyone recommend a good specialist? I'm thinking of going privately now even though it's so expensive and thought about the Birmingham Thyroid Clinic?

Selincro Has Reduced My Alcohol Consumption But Bad Side Effects

I was probably one of the first people around the UK ( well England ) to be prescribed Selincro by my GP earlier this year.

I have gone through all the usual issues identified when starting to take this drug and got through the difficult period to settle down into a lifestyle of being more in control of my drinking and only taking the tablet 2 -3 times a week on those days I am likely to have a drink.  Recently I have taken a tablet just because it was Friday and there maybe a chance that I have a drink , even though I didn't fancy a drink at the time or went to have a drink and didn't enjoy it so left it at one.  So it can be said that everything has been a success.

Not quite though !  You see I want to be able to have a couple of days when I do enjoy a drink. Whether it be at home with my wife or out with friends. The problem is that although the side effects of the drug have greatly subsided when I do take a tablet ( Infrequently now )  I still feel strange., cold clammy forehead, slight nausea and some light headedness ( best way I can describe it) plus it seems to increase my tinnitus. There are other things difficult to describe also.  I guess that if I then went on to enjoy the rest of the evening I could accept that but I increasingly find that I would be better off not drinking at all.  Now that would be great for those people who have been recommended total abstinence but it was never my intention and my GP was supportive of that. The intention was just to cut down the amount of alcohol intake and to have alcohol free days.

So I am at a crossroads now.  To continue as I am or stop the Selincro. From what I have read and been told, once you start it should be for life. ( Mind I was not aware of that when I commenced on the treatment ) I understand that if I was to stop my brain would readjust and a desire for alcohol reward would increase.  All I want is to be well enough to enjoy a drink a couple of nights a week.

I know it is still early days in the UK but has there been any research into those considered as having a ' mild dependence on alcohol  ' who commenced Selincro with success and then went onto to try and manage their drinking without the drug.

In my case I feel I have broken the habit of having drink everyday , even though my wife continues to have a drink and there is alcohol in the house. I don't want to go back to drinking 60 - 80 units per week but at the same time I am unhappy with my present situation.

Hip Replacement :: Reduced / Missing Joint Cartilage And Bone Spurs

I have been in pain off and on for about 5 years now and xrays show that i have greatly reduced and/or missing joint cartilage and bone spurs including bone cysts that seem to come and go. The Ortho surgeon said from the x rays alone, I needed a full replacement. Most days its painful to walk for too long or bend,  twist etc which does interfere  a lot with my life and i often find it hard to sleep or reach a deep sleep. Id love to travel but but can never tell when my hip will feel okish and when it will be agony!  Every day can be different! I have been told pain like this comes and goes and is all part of the slow deterioration of the joint. As my surgery date looms in the next week i am starting to feel maybe i don't need it  ( hip is feeling okish today!) or am i just getting cold feet?  Im mid 50s and pretty healthy and active but this hip has certainly held me back especially in the last year. I've never had a big Op but some websites say sooner is better than later. Any ideas or thoughts?.

Reduced Uric Acid Level - Still Foot And Wrist Stiff / Pain

I am 26 years old, it's been more than 4 months I am suffering from pain in both of my foot, ankles and left wrist, I took all the test and found Uric acid was too high in my blood, doc prescribed me fuboxstate tablet and within 2 weeks it came down to 2.2, it's been more than 3 weeks since I lowered my Uric acid, but still pain is not going away and both if my foot and left wrist have swollen and stiff, I drink 2 ltr of water, have lowered my food intake, specially meat, chickens, alcohol and dairy products,

Just to add, in the first week of Jan2016 I met with an accident, had stitches on my right knee, that took approx 2 months to cure, but that time there were no pain in my foot, pain started in my foot when I got a new shoe in feb 2016, I thought it might go away with time as this was just bcoz of new shoe, also I started taking protein x powder without any exercise, I know it was a big mistake I made.

My question is,

1- Based on my above comments is there anything else causing pain as my uric acid is down?

2- is it possible any of my nerves misplaced due to the accident or new shoe and causing pain and swelling?

Recovery After Aortic Aneurysm Operation

My fiance, had a check up at the doctors to see if he had an enlarged aneurysm, he had, unbeknown to him, no pain no symptoms of any kind, a very fit and active man at the age of 65. December 12th diagnosed, operated on 1st February 2007. It was as you can imagine a big shock to the both of us obviously him more than me. He was advised to stop smoking which he did the day before the op was given cholesterol lowering tablets and told to exercise, walking up and down stairs, up and down the garden just as much as he could manage. We did not have a computer when he had his op so the only information we had was from the hospital which was reasonably informative but it did not say how /what problems would occur after the op! The surgeon explained it would take between 3 and 6 months for him to start feeling better. Well we are now 7 months down the line and he still gets tired and twinges as he puts it in his abdomen, the doctors say its due to the nerve endings repairing themselves. I personally would advise any wife or girlfriend with a man over toe age of 60 to get a scan, plus we were told it can be genetic so if he has brothers get them to check as well. It has been a ver traumatic time for us both, he is now on the road to full recovery and I'm glad to have him back.
