Pregnancy :: (20 Weeks) Temporary Loss Of Vision / Hearing Flashes Of Light

Jul 9, 2011

I am pregnant with my second child and 20 weeks into the pregnancy.  I have had some really bad headaches this entire pregnancy so far but the dr told me that's typical as I had some severe headaches before pregnancy.  Now the headaches have gotten worse, about a week ago I started suffering from blind spots in my right eye and every time I would close my eyes I would see this bright ring flash in both eyes.  After about two days of this I went to my eye dr who said my actual eye is fine but it may be a neuro issue.  Well it has continued but I don't have insurance nor a lot of money so I have been to another dr yet and last night and today I am also suffering from temporary hearing loss when my headaches get bad and my vision starts leaving me (now in both eyes) .  I am scared out of my mind and just trying to figure out some type of explanation as to what might be going on.

Anxiety :: Temporary Hearing Loss.

So, I'm back on Mirtazapine 15MG but these past few months I have halved the pill as I discovered 15MG was causing my panic attacks and high anxiety. I also tried to stop Mirtazapine completely and it was the worst time of my life, never want to experience that again but I know I did it all wrong (stopping suddenly).

Anyway, these past few months I have been doing much better. No panic attacks. Still some anxiety there but not as bad as before. However, I have found new symptoms I have been experiencing  and I am unsure if it is anxiety-related. For the two months I have been experiencing this sudden loss of hearing in one ear which lasts a few seconds and then comes back. I went to the hospital about this, had my ears checked and he said everything was fine and it could just be a sinus problem where I have congestion and it can affect my hearing sometimes as the tube in my ear opens/closes , if that makes sense? I don't know the correct medical terms so that's as best as I can describe it. He prescribed me Beacons and told me to take it for 4 weeks. Also, he told me because it only lasts a few seconds and comes and goes it's nothing to worry about. Phew.

However, my anxiety has me convinced I have a brain tumor. I had headaches for a while but then they stopped completely and I haven't had one in a few weeks. Then I had this hearing problem and my anxiety told me again, "brain tumor". I went and got an eye test done because I have one or two floaters I've recently noticed and my eyes were perfect, she said. Of course, my anxiety made me ask her about if they could tell if someone has a brain tumor and she said she's only had to do that twice in her career and if there was something wrong she would definitely be able to tell.

My symptoms have definitely improved, but why am I always worrying? Why is my anxiety making me tell myself I have a brain tumor when I have no symptoms of a brain tumor? Such as seizures, constant headaches, nausea, etc? It's so annoying.

Does anyone else suffer from this problem? Or do you suffer from the same symptoms like a sudden temporary loss of hearing?

Hearing Loss :: Partial Hearing Loss With Clogged-up Ear

About a week ago, I was at home at the computer (I believe I was listening to music at the time), and I noticed that the hearing in my left ear had been significantly diminished (but not completely gone). About a minute (perhaps even less than a minute) later, it returned completely to normal, and so I assumed that it was just ear wax or something, and everything was fine now. However, a few seconds to a minute later, it went back to being diminished again. I can't remember for certain if I felt anything physically when all of this happened, but there may have been something that I felt in my ear - which led me to believe it was probably just ear wax.

I have researched on-line for possible solutions to this kind of problem, and I have tried every possibility that I could - peroxide, warm olive oil, blowing as hard as I can with my nose and mouth shut, blowing as hard as I can with my nose and mouth and other (good) ear shut, nasal decongestant (which successfully clears up my nose, but doesn't have any effect on the ear), hot steam bath, Similasan Ear Relief drops that are supposed to clear up water in the ears, jumping up and down with my bad ear tilted toward the ground, jogging, and of course trying to dig out ear wax with the ear wax curette that I have. Unfortunately, nothing has worked, and my hearing has been about the same ever since a week ago when it went out (diminished) for the second time.

I have been able to remove a lot of ear wax with the curette, and sometimes it seems to make it a little better, but it never restores my hearing to normal. Sometimes I feel like I am right at the spot where it is clogged up (if indeed clogged ear wax is the problem), because the curette seems to be hitting a spot that's clogged with ear wax (judging from what it feels and sounds like), but then when I dig out a bunch of ear wax at that spot, my hearing is still the same or perhaps only slightly better. Perhaps I am actually pushing the ear wax further inside, which was mentioned as a possible negative effect of trying to remove the ear wax yourself. Also, I am wary of not poking too hard or too deep, as that was also a warning given at the sites I visited in my research.

Swallowing never seems to do anything, but it's interesting that when I have a strong belch, I can feel pressure inside that left (bad) ear, and it really feels like it's about to burst out and expel whatever is stuck (if it's the case that something is stuck), but it never does. Maybe whatever is stuck in there [ear wax, presumably] is just in so tight that nothing seems to be able to remove it. However, the odd circumstance that occurred when the problem first originated - which is the fact that it got better right after getting clogged up, and then got clogged up again - would seem to suggest that there may be another reason for this happening, other than plugged-up ear wax.

Neurological Disorders :: Choroidal Fissure Cyst Loss Of Taste, Hearing Loss

Last year(2014) I started having some health issues. In March I was diagnosed with Mastoiditis. After that I began to have vision issues with pain and was diagnosed with Optic Neuritis in my left eye. I did 3 days of Solumedrol at home and followed with oral steroids. Since then I have had on and off hearing loss on left side and have lost my sense of taste 3 times for a few weeks. I recently had a mri and they found a 12mm choroidal fissure cyst on my left side. I also have tingling and numbness in my left foot and leg. I still have blurry and double vision in my left eye at times. I had previous ct scans and mris and there was no cyst present. Could this newly found cyst be causing my issues?

Chiari Malformation :: Decompression Surgery Will Fix Vision And Hearing?

I have a child recently diagnosed with chiari malformation type 1.  His age is 4.  It started with vision and hearing issues, then breath holding spells when hit in the head.  All started at age 2. He has strabismus with esotropia. Recently started having spells where he will drop to the ground and cover his eyes (photosensitivity) complains of spinning, they last 2-4 hours followed by 24 hours of vomiting.  The neurologist believes this is unrelated to the chiari. I have scheduled a second opinion with a neurosurgeon.  He also is constantly smelling everything. Any thoughts on that part?  I was wondering if this is all related to chiari and if he has the decompression surgery will it fix his vision and hearing?

Pregnancy - 20 Weeks :: Light Taps Like Baby Movement

I'm just shy of 20 weeks and i've been able to feel my baby move for awhile now but it was always very light almost like taps. As i was laying in bed tonight i watched a video of a lady at 18 weeks who recorded her baby kicking and you could see the movement very clearly. While i was watching it i couldn't help but be a little sad cause i haven't had any strong movements but maybe 5 minutes later i get the biggest kick yet that was very clearly visible outside of my stomach. I was wondering how far along you ladies were before you felt strong movements/kicks?

Flashes Of Light Or Twitching Eye?

I flashes of light and eye twitches. Sometimes, I do not know which one is which. Sometimes I feel like when my eye twitches, it looks like flashing lights. Sometimes not. I went to a retinal specialist about 2 days ago to rule out any retinal detachment and retinal tear. There is none. Although I was diagnosed with lattice degeneration. But I am still seeing the flashes. What are they? They are really bothering me. Sometimes I feel like I am paranoid.

Eyes :: Pin Point Flashes In My Vision

I have been seeing pin point flashes in my eye for a long time, a few months now. they vary in color from red to silver. they last for half a second and appear out of nowhere with no warning signs. i have also been seeing a lots of floaters which appear as moving dark black lines rather than squiggly bubbles ( i see the squiggly bubbles too but they happen rarely). the dark lines don't usually bother me unless im looking at a wall or when i'm outside. if i'm outside during daytime the frequency of seeing the dark lines greatly increases even if i'm just looking at the ground. oh there's also something else, whenever i look at the sky at daytime i see a lot of glitter moving around almost looking like shooting stars.

Corneal Ulcer :: Blurry Vision And Sensitivity To Light

Hi everyone, just after some advice.. My left eye started watering really bad last Wednesday, by the Friday the white of my eye was blood red, I arranged a visit to the GP who gave me chloramphenicol eye drops and if it got any worse to take myself to our local eye hospital. By the Sunday my eye was so painful, watering, bright red and light sensitive. I ended up visiting the eye hospital to be advised that I had an ulcer on my cornea. This us down to a viral infection, I was given antiviral eye ointment to put in 5 times a day for 10 days. The doc said due to my job I would probably need 2-3 days off.

I have been off 3 days now and although the pain and redness has calmed down, my eye is very sensitive to light and my sight is still blurry.

has anyone else suffered this please and how long did it take to recover and the eye to feel normal?

Lisinopril - Light Headed, Dizzy And Blurry Vision

I have damage to my heart from chemotherapy I had as a child and it is progressing and I have now been put on Lisinopril to try to help keep it from worsening any further or as quickly. I do not have high BP (my BP tends to run normal to a little low if anything). I started on Lisinopril Wed. night and Saturday morning I went grocery shopping & while pushing the cart and walking I got extremely light headed, a little dizzy, & my vision went a little blurry, I thought I was going to pass out. I ended up having to stop and sit down for a few minutes. I was able to complete my shopping but had to stop several times throughout due to the sudden light headed feeling coming back. I have never had this happen before and I don't know if my body just needs to adjust to the Lisinopril or if it is lowering my BP too much and causing these issues. Do I just need to let my body adjust or do I need to call doc & get back off of it.

Migraine :: Daily Flashes Of Black And White Light

I have been experiencing daily flashes of black light and white light. The black light is complete darkness while the white light is the brightest light I have ever seen (almost fluorescent or like a camera flash). I have been experiencing these flashes since I was a very young child (1st grade-ish). The flashes are instant, but may repeat constantly for a couple of minutes. Once I went completely blind for a couple of minutes, but that was the only time that happened. I had EEG's, MRI's, and EEG's in high school. They all come back negative for seizure activity, but I still feel like electricity is going through my brain when I experience the flashes. I have always had good vision and have never needed contacts or glasses. My neurologist told me it could be a couple of things like atypical migraines or micro-seizures. Now that I'm older, I'd like to know more about what I might be experiencing or if anyone has had similar experiences?

Tinnitus And Hearing Loss At 17

i loss my hearing at the age of 17, doctors were shocked because this usually happens to people over 30... they said that the loss was due to stress and sadness but i couldn't figure out what exactly i was stressed about. i lost 98% of my hearing in the left ear and they send me to therapy straight away, i missed a month and a half of my senior year of high school due to this. after the therapy my ear improved drastically and now i can hear 40% and have completely lost 60%. i'm 18 now and there isn't much i can do anymore. i will soon go and get a hearing aid but i still am not so sure about it. i have coped with the loss off hearing but the ringing in my ear makes me go crazy. so my question is, do you recommend a hearing aid? will it stop of perhaps lessen the ringing in my ear?
