Recurring Yeast Infections, Is Yeast A Normal Thing?

Apr 28, 2014

I am 27 years old. Have had 1 sexual partner for the last year and a half. I've had yeast infections before, probably 1 a year prior to him coming along. in the last 6 months I've had a few yeast infections, and the worst vaginal irritation, including severe swelling, dryness, itchiness, etc. Sometimes I sit in the tub for an hour, and its even gotten to the point where I ice my vagina to decrease the swelling. My doctors have told me irritation is just part of having a vagina. How does that help me?

I'm a very healthy person. Have no std's. Eat basically Paleo and gluten free, and exercise on a daily basis. I stay away from sugars because I fear they will cause the yeast to come. I'm getting worried that the yeast is a sign of something much worse. Then, I read web articles, which talk about immune deficiencies, diabetes, LBS, etc. and get scared, which just stresses me out.

Is yeast a normal thing, or am I justified in being worried?

Recurring Yeast Infections For The Past 3 Years

I am a 21 year old girl who has struggled with recurring yeast infections for the past 3 years. They would come every 4-6 months and I'd treat them and they'd go away for the time and come back. Well I had to take penicillin for strep throat 2 months ago and guess who got a lovely yeast infection? Even taking a diflucan with the antibiotics it still came, so yes I've had a yeast infection for almost 3 months straight. I've give to planned parenthood several times, one doctor says it's yeast the next says it's BV and now this doctor says it's both! Of course they send me home with metrogel and a diflucan even though that hasn't helped. I'm going to do the treatment knowing it's not going to cure it, there's some type of hope right? I need some support from other ladies dealing with this. I've struggled with depression and this is intensifying it. I feel hopeless, I can't have sex and I'm a mess. My boyfriend is completely understanding, but ya no sex isn't the funnest thing. I've also been doing the yeast diet, cut sugars out, no bread, no alcohol, pretty much nothing. I'm taking probiotics, eating yogurt, wearing cotton undies, wearing nothing but dresses at night. I just really really need somebody to tell me what helps them get through this, I wanna cry plenty of times throughout the day because this is so miserable.

Recurring Yeast Infection? Or Something Else?

Hi, everyone. I've been part of the community for a few weeks now but wanted to introduce myself and maybe ask for some help with a problem I'm having.

I'm 33 years old and I have a problem with chronic vaginal yeast infections. I used to get them all the time. I'm talking 1-2x per month, like clockwork. The more frequently I got them, the worse they became and the harder they were to treat.

I started working with an OBGYN who had given me a great list of things to do. I started washing my clothes differently. I switched to a natural lubricant (sweet almond oil). I changed some of my hygiene products. I also gave up soaking in the tub at the end of a long day at work (I have a pretty physical job). She also gave me a prescription for a cream similar to Monistat to use; but the instruction was to just use one tube immediately upon feeling symptoms (itching, etc). It got to the point where I could do one treatment and not have to do any others. The only time this didn't work was when I took antibiotics, which was a separate nightmare altogether, as I'm sure most of you know. Over time, I started to have my infections less frequently.

Last year, they started to come back more frequently. I also started to feel really tired and I had some dry patches on my arms and legs. I also developed an itchier fungal rash in my inner thigh. I saw another OBGYN and she had me use some topical antifungal creams. The rashes would clear up but then they'd come back a few weeks later.

I did some research online and found Dr Eric Bakker ND and his site on yeast infections. I started to follow a Candida diet protocol and I actually began to feel a LOT better. I followed the entire regime for about 9 months and I weeded out all of the glutenous and sugary foods my body has mild allergic reactions to.

My problem now is that I seem to have another yeast infection. I mean, that's normal, thanks to hormones. I didn't expect I'd never get a vaginal YI ever again in my life. The problem is that after a course of treatment, I don't have discharge or itching any longer (the itching lasted a while, though), but I do still have some irritation and redness.

Is it possible this time I don't have a yeast infection at all? Up until this point, it seemed exactly like the type of infection I've had in the past. I'm not 100% sure how to move forward at this point. I wonder if I should just use the topical cream that came in the kit for a while longer; start another treatment; see if it's BV instead? I ended the treatment about a week ago.

Yeast Infection :: Recurring - Intercourse Is Painful

I have recurring yeast infections I have been to to different doctors they prescribe antibiotics and send me on my way. Intercourse is painful for me so that is not a factor on why I get these infections. I have been tested for every std and my drs say that these infections are caused by sex. Pregnancy :: Can Diet Cause Yeast Infections?

My 1 year old has a bad yeast infection. She has already been prescribed nystatin and it seems to work, but the infection is not going away. The doctor did not answer my question when I asked him what caused yeast infections. He said they just happen. If they just happen how come every baby girl does not have them. Does anyone have any more useful information about what could cause a yeast infection in a 1 year old? I don't believe we were just unlucky.

STD :: Bacterial Vaginosis And Yeast Infections - Can't Get Rid

So I wanted to give an update on my post I made a few months back, on the "i can't get rid of BV!

All those remedies never worked for me. I tried the apple cider vinegar douche and the H2O2 douche. I even tried the diet thing,(candida diet) where you can't eat anything basically. Needless to say that didn't last very long, I think I did that for about 3 days because it was just waaay to hard for me. But anyways as I was trying that out I also stopped taking my birth control pills. I had been taking Lutera for about 3 years. (Which is around the time all my symptoms started to happen)

Long story short...my boyfriend told me to do one or the other. And since I had already stopped taking my BC (and that candida diet sucks!) I decided to just eat what I want and see what happens with everything going on down south. Well A LOT of my symptoms went away!! I've even had sex about 5 times with no bad reactions afterword(which before when I had sex with my bf, almost immediately after or the next morning the symptoms would be so bad sometimes I would cry).

I'm not saying I don't have this anymore because I think I still do, I still have a white milky discharge, that dries on my panty-liners a sort of yellow-brown color, and it smells a little, not fishy but I don't think it's good lol. But i no longer have that severe itching that i use to get, which was the absolute worst!!!!!! TMI but i could probably sit there and scratch for like literally 5mins straight with out any relief, just a flared up vagina! ugh its sucked sooo bad!

But I'm just nervous to go to the doctor to get tested positive a for BV or yeast infection and have her put me on an antibiotic that might just make my symptoms worse all over again. Should I go to the doctor or try an OTC for a yeast infection??

Women's Health :: Recurrent Yeast Infections

I have been dealing with recurrent yeast and bv infections for several years. I have been to a handful of doctors, they cannot tell me why my symptoms won't go away. Doctors have tried to grow cultures of the yeast, but it never grows. I have tested negative for diabetes and do not have anything that would otherwise compromise my immune system. I have tried the yeast free diet - all I did was lose 5 pounds (and on my 100 lbs. body that is saying something). Now my Dr. says that I have BV and a yeast infection. I have tried eating yogurt, inserting yogurt with a probiotic powder, taking probiotics, nothing seems to work. He is giving me Flagyl (500 mg for 5 days) then he wants me to take a Diflucan pill once a day for 20 days. I am not having sex during this most recent treatment plan, in hopes of getting this under control.

Yeast Infection :: Ongoing Vaginal Infections

For nearly a year now, I have battled with ongoing vaginal infections. I started running into these problems a couple weeks after I first became sexually active (which was a little over a year ago). My boyfriend and I are monogamous, and he is the only person I have slept with. However, I keep getting infections, and it doesn't matter whether or not we use a condom. I have gone to the gynecologist countless times, and for the longest period all my cultures proved negative for STD's and infections. Only twice has it turned up positive for a yeast infection. To get into the nit and gritty of things, I have had a thick, yellow discharge with a foul smelling odor (almost like vinegar) and both internal and external (itchy) irritation. It also hurts to have sex, almost like a stinging pain (sorry about all the gross details).

I have done everything to try to ease my symptoms. I have taken many antibiotics throughout the past year to treat my symptoms and nothing has helped, and even if something does help, my symptoms return fairly quickly. My partner and I have been abstaining from sex for over a month now, but medications still will not do the trick. I have switched out my soaps to all natural ones, with no fragrances. I haven't worn synthetic underwear or thongs for a month. I have also been taking probiotics for about two months. Lastly, I have attempted the "candida diet" with little success, because my low blood sugar levels led me to feel extremely faint, and I quickly needed to stop the diet.

Lichen Sclerosus :: Yeast Infections And Coconut Oil?

I have now seen a proper specialist for first time.  She advises two week break from clob while we zap a yeast/fungal infection with an oral treatment called itraconazole. [And then 6 weeks of daily clob.]  I didn't ask her whether it was ok to still use coconut oil or similar and have this slight worry that it might somehow feed the infection!?!?  But don't want to forego the comfort unnecessarily.

Fungal / Yeast Infections :: Brown Discharge With Smell?

have always had a problem 'down there' since a young age and was told not to worry about it my symptoms include discharge that ranges from white to slightly brown and lately a very strong smell. What alarmed me was something that happened three months ago. Lately it turned out that i had little sensation in the vagina canal area and my clitoris ended up being very painful if it was stimulated too much. I've never had this problem before with my boyfriend and i haven't read about anything like this happening where the vagina ends up being sore and little sensation? I have recently seen my gp and she said it could possibly be thrush and gave me a course of Flagyl ( metronidazole) and a Clotrimazole cream that i apply outside of the vagina and inside via an applicator.

Sexual Health - Women :: Yeast Infections, Oral Sex

This is embarrassing. I let my boyfriend perform oral sex on me. I'm not sure I like it - it feels good, but I can't get past how gross it must be for him (he says it's not). But I'm suddenly worried. I feel I have the symptoms of a yeast infection. I'm worried that I might have passed on an oral yeast infection to him (thrush).

I've looked online and I see conflicting information. Many places say it's not possible to pass on thrush through oral sex. Other sites say it is possible.

Bacterial Vaginosis :: I Cured My BV/Recurrent Yeast Infections

I had to share my story in hopes of helping someone else. I had BV for about 3 years and when I did not have BV I had a yeast infection. I was a mess! I had tried absolutely everything you could read on the internet I was obsessed in curing myself. The doctors did not help all the stuff they gave me made me so much worse and I was back to square one. This is what has worked for me after my three years of trying everything and anything. Months later I have no symptoms. What I can tell you that has actually worked for me was: Stop taking baths (only showers). Do not let your partner finish inside you (use your imaginations on this one there are other ways. Do not insert anything into your vagina (NOTHING). Do not douche. Do not wash your vagina with anything but warm water. Do not wear underwear all day (let it breathe when you get home). Drink lots of water. Drink unsweetened cranberry juice. Do not let anything inside you that will change your PH of your vagina. Cut out sugar, and all junk food. Do not use scented tampons. Be patient for symptom relief for about 10 -14 days when taking these supplements. I now take a probiotic, cranberry pills, garlic pills, vitamin D, B complex, and vitamin C. Yes that sounds like so much stuff but I am telling you all the things I listed have a good reason behind them. The supplements are 100% needed to cure you from the inside out and the vagina when left alone will do what it needs to to cure itself. I hope this helps someone to weed threw all of the info online and finally be free from this horrible problem that ruins your self esteem.
