I am a care worker and I have been asked to look after a lady with shingles. I have had chickenpox as a child. But my concern is for my daughter in law who is pregnant and her six month old baby who live with me. Could they get infected if I have to look after this lady. Could I pass on the virus.
View 5 RepliesHello! I am a 34 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with shingles. I have had them for about a week and am quite uncomfortable, but not miserable. I have had some stomach pains for a few days that I believe are associated.
One problem I have is in all the information on the net and from doctors they stress the point "you can NOT get shingles from someone with shingles"... well, I disagree. My mother is a non-hodgkin's lymphoma patient who was diagnosed with shingles about two weeks ago. I live by her and help her and I find it hard to believe my shingles didn't come from being exposed to her!

I've just been diagnosed with Shingles. I have been told you can't get Shingles from Shingles, only chicken pox from shingles. But I am the third person in work in a week to come down with Shingles. If you can't get Shingles from shingles, how come so many people in work have it?
View 25 RepliesI have been battling PR for 13 days now and have been having a terrible time (like most of us!). I am one of the lucky ones that has been experiencing severe itching and burning with no relief. Today my husband called me in a panic because he woke up with a similar looking rash that is itchy on his forearm. I was under the notion that PR was not contagious. Has anyone had experience with this? I haven't seen him today yet and haven't gotten a look at the rash myself or looked the rest of him over, but now I am in a panic.

ok so heres my story/questions my dr decided not to tell me that ive had hsv1 genital for about 9 years maybe longer i dont know why she didnt tell me but thats what it is.. now ive been very very paranoid about everything like what if my daughter uses the toilet after me or touches something after ive used the bathroom and didnt wash my hands right away? can she catch it from that or say could she catch it from a sink or the taps?

I'm getting married in couple of months ands would really like to know the chance of spreading it to my future husband. We have not had intercourse, waiting for marriage. My question is, how did the contract it genitally if they kissed first? Wouldn't the fact that they had been kissing their partner the whole time make it impossible to get it on the genital area?
View 4 RepliesI'm currently suffering from chickenpox. I am 19 years old, living in a tropical country. I worked with kids, and I noticed this wound thing a few days ago. I had a bad case of acne growing up, but my face was clearing up so I popped. It would scab and itch for the whole day and all.
THE SITUATION
basically, I was diagnosed with chickenpox. I'm a little of a workaholic, so this was really devastating. That, and my dad is 51 and my mom is 46. As far as I know, both cannot recall if they have chicken pox. We lived in a pretty small house, and it was hard to avoid them. But I did it anyway.
So anyway, I had a bad case of chickenpox. It was easy to resist scratching bc nothing itched. Except for that damned pox on my face. It itches really badly, like my whole face is filled with scab and redness and it was horrifying and painful to look at. Because I didn't have the best hygiene growing up and I'm starting to take better care of my skin.
So anyway this should be day 3. I really don't know how the chicken pox days work, but today would either be day 3 or 4. Blisters spread everywhere - but it was somewhat slow. And anyway, my back is starting to itch a lot from all the chicken pox. I read online that when itching gets bad, you should use oatmeal bath, and ketamine. I would want to get the lotion, but I can't walk out looking like this. So I would get my mom/my sis. While my sister is generally supportive, and my dad listened to me - he didn't come near me and stuff. My mom on the other hand, was constantly butting heads with me over the best way to treat chickenpox. she told me to endure the itching ( which had kept me up for 2 nights ) and even told me that chicken pox wasn't that big of a deal. one of the nights, what felt like my nymph nodes were swollen and I had a fever. I wear specs and every time I wore specs, that pox under my eye would burn and sear in pain. It was really painful, and to think that I thought I had a minor case.
QUESTIONS
sorry for boring you with my long story and all, i also lastly have some questions.
- To soothe the itchiness on my face, I first decided to wash my face every 30-40 minutes. It stung, but the scabbing got a lot better. When I first took a shower, I decided to spam baby powder all my body, including that open sore. I felt less dirty, and it was easier to sleep. but I took a shower just now and the pox under my eye had grown to this grotesque size (it was smaller than when I did nothing with it and it was all scanning and all) . It doesn't itch, doesn't hurt. But I saw there was a bit of liquid coming out. Is it infected, or am I overreacting? Also, if it is infected, are there any home remedies to get rid of the swelling?
- as I said, I've read that talcum/baby powder has drying effect and helps to reduce itching. While that is true, I still itch. Doesn't matter how much I apply on myself, it itches or stings? It really affects my sleep because even though it is bearable that I don't scratch myself every 5 seconds, it is bad enough that I end up twitching in my sleep and waking up.
- other than that, can chicken pox spread through toys and all? Do I have to disinfect them? I know this is very childish of me, but I have a lot of toys on my bed that I sleep with. I'm not sleeping with my favorite one, but do I have to disinfect everything or does the virus die without a human host?
- lastly, my sister sleeps in the same room as me. She's adamant about not leaving the room, so she sleeps above me. I don't cough, I don't sneeze and we make no physical contact. Can the virus still be spread that way? Similar to my mother and my father as well, I hardly talk to my father anymore and when he is in the room, i talk through a blanket. Can the virus spread that way, or will it die? Similarly with my mom, my mom looks after my meals and all and she washes it. What are her chances of getting chickenpox? My dad is 51, my mother is 46, my sister is 17. They are all coughing and all, but they insist that they don't have any pox. I think my dad is vaccinated in the army but none of them know for sure. I am worried bc I have read about all kinds of complications when chickenpox hits adults, and I just want to make sure I don't end up spreading chicken pox to my parents.
For about a month now I have had pain in my right testicle that spread into my groin and hip area. Also, occasionally I feel pain and discomfort in my upper right abdominal near the liver. This all started the morning after having unprotected sex but I went to the doctors and std test came back negative as well as the urine test came back negative. I have been having trouble getting solid erections since this day as well. What could be causing these problems?

have a white patch at the vaginal opening but towards bum it is mostly red and feels bumpy. The itching is keeping me awake at night. I take baking soda baths, apply coconut oil and have a cream made up of 3% steroid and canes tan . I am not on clob. Or Dermovate. So questions
What else can help the itching?
When LS is under control do symptoms stay away for a day, a week, or a month?
I was diagnosed in Oct 2015 and have issues almost everyday since when I have a day when I feel 'normal'. I could sing, fly jump with joy for the relief

Does LS spread more if it's not treated?
if it is treated will it stay more in one area.
I had an unprotected sex encounter with a CSW since the condom broke 8 weeks ago. I now see a red raised spot to the left of my penis on the genital area which I suspect to be a wart. I am worried but mostly I am worried if I had passed it to my wife since I had unprotected sex twice with her within a week of the exposure. My wife had not complained yet of symptoms and we are currently staying far from each other and will be like that at least for another year due to personal constraints.
Is there a timeframe when I could have turned contagious or I could have transmitted the virus to her already? How can I ascertain for sure that my wart is indeed a genital wart and not any other wart. Should I wait for my wife to notice symptoms as I heard that the virus is usually suppressed by immune system?
All my Sti tests are negative at 8 week mark.
I have been suffering with MC for more than 4 months now. I have tried Tretinoin and imiquad with no effects. Then i moved to applying ACV overnight for past 10 days. It does work, many small ones have dried and fell. However the big ones seems to be very stubborn. I opened about 5-6 of them and they are healing now. I am not sure if the virus is out from them until they heal completely. In the meanwhile i have observed a few new ones coming up. 1 have come up near the opening of the vagina and 1 at the starting of vagina. Now i am scared that i have spread it. How do i treat the ones close to the vagina?? I can only wipe them ACV and not soak them ACV.

The next day my inner thighs started itching and it has spread to a couple itch bumps on my stomach, many on my waist area / lower abdomen. I tried to refrain from itching intensely.I've done a buttload of research, eczema is all I've found to fit so far. It doesn't seem to be mites/bed bugs/scabies/chiggers. Jock itch doesn't fit. Neither does yeast infection, or any other fungal/bacterial infection.My penis has become less itchy but more try. The skin on the head is flaking. I've been using ice cubes to temporarily relieve the itch but it's not too much help. My sleep is becoming very disturbed.

View 1 Repliesas much as i have search i can't seem to find any usefull info on this condition. i first noticed something was wrong when i woke one morning with a slight pain on the left side of my left eye. after one scary long week, two doctors, one optician and no real answers i had lost any useful sight in the eye, just a blur. took myself to A&E one sat morning , spent the next 7 days in King college hospital on a antiviral drip. that was 4 weeks ago and still no sign that i will regain my sight ,just a huge amount of floaters. having antiviral pills,9 a day ,plus steriods & drops. another 3 months of those i have been told. rare condition i have been told and the object of fascination at the hos. any one with the same experience out there? still wondering if i will ever see again.[

View 1 RepliesI'm 21 and have had recurring shingles since I was 9... I used to get it about once a year but have had it 7 times in the last 2 years. It used to knock me for six for about 3 weeks but I'm getting better at recognising the early symptoms so that I can have my acyclovir prescription ready and waiting for when the spots come out! The first thing I notice is that I find it uncomfortable to wear my bra (I always get shingles on my side) and then I get that distinct "been hit by a bus" feeling... Absolutely knackered, deep muscle aches and a little nauseous. And then joy of joy, the shooting pains begin! This is the part I find most difficult to cope with, I get really sharp pains drilling down my side and a dull pins and needles like feeling that is continuous. I don't get alot of blisters, just one or two, but they are always inside a mottled rash about the size of a side plate.
I have seen numerous doctors about this who have all said that it's rare, esp for my age, but that's about it. I guess there's nothing that can be done.
The only advice I can give about recurring shingles is just try and get good at recognising it early! And then try and chill until it goes. Useless, I know, but that's all I've got.
If anyone's got some better advice it would be greatly appreciated!
