Thyroid :: High FT3, FT4 And TSH

Apr 1, 2016

I have done a health check and have gotten my thyroid blood results back:

fT3 25.70 lab range: (1.4 - 4.2 Pg/ml)
fT4 2.87 lab range: (0.80 - 2.20 Pg/ml)
TSH 4.95 lab range: (0.40 - 6.00 mIU/ml)

The T3 value is sky-high, and T4 and TSH are high as well.

The doctor was also stumped and said the results don't match an ECG that was done at the same time. I should be having heart problems, but everything looked fine.

I have done a lot of Googling, but can't find how to interpret these results.

I have taken supplemental iodine 150 mcg for the last 5 months, following the advice of a common popular diet regime. For a while, I have also taken selenium 55 mcg, but stopped this about a month ago.

To me these results look hyperthyroid (T4 and T3) and hypothyroid (high TSH)

Can you make more sense of these results?

A bit more background
I have had a pulsating "tinnitus," - something like a heartbeat in my left ear for the last week, but maybe 4 times a normal heart rate. This was the original reason for wanting to do a checkup, and also including the thyroid. My resting heart rate is about 78, which is about my normal.

I have recently had two strong cups of coffee every day - maybe about 300 mg caffeine total.

Thyroid :: T3 Reverse High

I was recently diagnosed with a T3 Reverse High of 35 ng/dl and the range should be 8-25. This test was done by an Integrated Internal Medicine Dr. that is insisting that most of my symptoms like ringing in the head, twitches in my legs or sometimes throughout my body, brain fog and fatigue could be coming from that number being high. I brought this test to two Endocrinologists that refuse to even look at the number saying that it has noting to do with how I feel and because all my other numbers are fine, I shouldn't worry about that number being high. Currently I am taking Synthroid 112 mcg and the Integrated Dr. suggested I switch to Nature Thyroid 97.5 mg. and on the third day of taking this, I felt like a drug addict without their drug and chickened out and went back to Synthroid again. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do and if there is another medication I can take together with Synthroid to lower the T3 Reverse?

Thyroid :: High Free T3?

I've been on dessicated thyroid for a few years and my dosage is still not right.

I feel worse than I ever have - I have no energy, so completely exhausted but have trouble sleeping or fall asleep during the day. Iron level is fine. Here's my latest test results, which my doctor said is fine, to leave dosage as is:

Result Reference
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone [TSH] 2.55 0.30 - 4.00mIU/L
Thyroxine Free [Free T4] 10 9 - 23pmol/L
Triiodothyronine Free [Free T3] HI 7.3 3.5 - 6.5pmol/L

Desperate to find out what's wrong with me - please help.

Thyroid :: T3 Of 4.35 High Enough To Cause Symptoms?

TSH and free T4 were in range and free T3 was high at 4.35. I have some symptoms of hyperthyroid. Heat intolerance, anxiety, stress, hypoglycemia but no weight loss. I attribute the no weight loss to eating all the time to keep my blood sugar from getting to low and I have actually gained some weight over the last few years. I started getting these symptoms 5 years ago and they can kind of come and go but the heat intolerance is always there. If I go out in the heat and work it just zaps my energy.

Also my red counts are just a tad high and liver enzymes are always elevated and in the 70-80 ranged. Non drinker and non smoker.

Thyroid Disorders :: High TSH And Low Free T4

I've been on Synthroid medication for 20 plus years and have done pretty well on it until recently.   This routine test showed a TSH level > 100 and my Free T4 at .24 which is low.   I've been placed on Synthroid at 300 mg and I'm waiting to see a specialist.  In the meantime, I'm wondering what does this means?

Thyroid Disorders :: High Cholesterol With L-Thyroxine

Have been on L-Tyroxine probably 30 years. When I weighed 120, cholesterol was 190, now that I am 68 and 30 lbs more, 150 at 5'4", my cholesterol is 416 (LDL in 300 range). I eat clean, no breads, cereals, carbs, etc (except only once in a while) eat wild game, game hen, fish, chicken, loads of fruits, veggies, etc., every thing super lean, fresh. take loads of supplements. I lift weights, do yoga, stretches, heavy gardening. Therefore, I find it absurd that my LDL is that high! I have absolutely no health issues except high cholesterol. Would Armour be better?

18 With 2 Thyroid Nodules And High Blood Pressure

So a couple of months ago I found out that I have 2 small thyroid nodules. Of course I freaked out but now calm and just waiting for the results of my 2nd thyroid ultrasound. I am also struggling with my blood pressure. For the past months I have been nervous all the time because of all the stuff that has been happening to me (different tests). My doctor keeps on saying that I have high blood pressure (which is weird cause I am younger than 18) because it would be 130/80 to 150/90 to 145/80 or around those readings. But when she does check it I am always nervous and freaking out and shaking. I am wondering if its cause of that. When I do check it at home, it sometimes is high or normal. Since my doctor and parents have been talking about high blood pressure and what it could do to your body I have been scared to take it being afraid it would be sky rocket high. Im wondering if it is my thyroid, fast heart rate (which my doctor thinks it's because of my nodules) my nervousness, my family history, or just me. I'm going to a cardiologist to check with my heart next month which is freaking me out.

*Now my doctor is prescribing me hypertension medication (Enalapril 5mg once a day) when im not even 18 yet! I am very young having to take BP medication?? My doctor thinks my hypertension is because of my thyroid or, nervousness.I feel so old. I feel like when I take this medication, my blood pressure will drop tremendously. Not I don't even know what to do now.

Thyroid :: Nature-throid With High Blood Sugar

I finally saw a naturopathic physician and she agreed that TSH levels over 4 were not good. So, she put me on a half tab of Nature throid to start. I see her again in a week.

This is my first time on meds and I'm just wondering what I should be looking for as far as results? If they work, is it like coming out of a fog or something? How long does it take to start to notice the effects?

I've been this way for as long as I can remember, so suddenly having energy or feeling perky or something like that would be really strange for me. I'm not expecting a miracle, but I can't say I'm not hoping for one.

I also have high blood sugar, so I'm supposed to cut things like beer and sugar, etc. out of my diet. She also thinks I have a dairy allergy, so I have to cut that out for a week to see how it goes. I note that Nature throid has lactose in it though... Weird.

Anyway, I'm just looking for some advice or guidance through the process.

She's a great doc and, I have to say, that actually having someone listen to my symptoms and BELIEVE me was dang near one of the best experiences of my life. I got all choked up when I left!

Oh, and meanwhile, I still haven't even received a call from my PCP's office regarding the blood tests I took over 3 weeks ago. Nice.

Thyroid :: High TSH, Normal Free T4 - Fatigue, Depression, Feeling Cold

I am a 51 year old female and had a physical last week with my general practitioner because it has been a long time. It included blood tests. One test was about the thyroid and I've got conflicting information about the result.

The report says:
TSH Reflex to Free T4
TSH RFLX is 8.25 - and is high, the normal range is shown as 0.40-4.50

T4, FREE
Thyroxine, Free, Direct - 0.8 - and is in range, range is shown as 0.8-1.8

I've done some research and it looks like this combination falls in the hypothyroidism range. However, my doctor says it is fine because the T4 FREE number is in range. There is no family history of thyroid problems. I'm concerned because I have some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism (fatigue, depression, feeling cold).

Does this sound right to those of you who have experience with thyroid disease? Should I see an endocrinologist?

Thyroid :: Tsh Low, Free T4 High, Free T3 Midrange

Here are my lab results from 2/7/14:
tsh- .028 range- .45-4.5
t4 free direct- 1.86 range-.82-1.77
t3 free serum- 3.2 range- 2.0- 4.4

Last year:
lab results from 3/26/13:
tsh- .096 range- .45- 4.5
t4 free direct- 1.53 range- .82- 1.77
t3 free serum- 3.1 range- 2.0-4.4

It looks like I might benefit with the addition of t3 meds. (cytomel) to lower my free t4 and raise my free t3. I feel fine, and anytime I've tried to lower my dose of levothyroxine (.125) even a little bit (.112), I get brain fog, lethargy and GI symptoms. I've been on the same dose for 13 years and my tsh has been low since I started medication. I've only recently requested the free t3 & free t4. My main concern with adding cytomel is that it will further reduce my tsh & the dr will be concerned. This is my 3rd dr in the 7 years since I moved south & every one has been concerned about bone density & heart issues. Any suggestions when I talk to the dr? btw- no hyper symptoms :-) Thanks!

Hypertension :: High Carbohydrate Food Causes High Blood Pressure (100/170)?

i am not overweight. Drink a healthy smoothie and whole grain cereal almost every morning yet my BP is still high. (100/170). I was  told it may be because of elevated insulin levels caused by the fruit drinks and whole grains (as well as the potato, rice, pasta and breads) that I eat. These are things that easily break down into sugars and cause the issue. (Basically a carb issue). Am I supposed to go on one of those caveman diets? Has anyone tried lowering their carb intake to lower their BP?

Cardiovascular :: High P Wave And High Diastolic Pressure

Let me start off by saying I am a 20 year old male who was fine before all of this started. I went to the ER for chest pain and palpitations they did the basic test like EKG Xray and Blood work. The ER doctor said i was fine and they let em go home but said i need to see a cardiologist to just make sure everything was fine. So i went to see a cardiologist and the hospital faxed over all of my test results. Based on my ER visits EKG i have an abnormally high P wave everything else on the EKG was fine. They set me up for a Echocardiogram to make sure i did not have an enlarged heart. that test came back normal and they said i did not have a enlarged heart. They set me up for a Stress Echo test I went in for the test got my heart rate up to 200bpm the before and after pictures of my heart looked good and they said everything was working fine and that i was healthy. But during the test i still have those high P waves showing up on the EKG which he said was caused because I am very thin chested and my hear beats close to the surface of my chest so the EKG pick up a higher voltage. Now i have noticed a slight arrhythmia when i take my pulse it tends to beat at 60 bpm then 5 or 6 beats later it jumps to 80 bpm then back to 60 after 5 or so beats. This comes and goes and does not happen all the time and when it does happen it only last up to 30 minutes but during that time i feel fatigued . And finally my blood pressure seems high the systolic pressure is always within normal range its the diastolic that always above normal when i tested my blood pressure with a home blood pressure monitor today it was at 135 over 87 then when i tested it later on in the day it was 127 over 83 i have noticed in multiple test the diastolic seem to float around the mid 80's to 90's the highest i have seen is 133 over 99. The cardiologist does not see to think there is anything wrong with me I have another appointment this week to bring up the high blood pressure and the arrhythmia.

Thyroid :: Natural Ways To Dissolve Thyroid Nodules

I have 3 thyroid nodules and 1 cyst. I have been advised to have a thyroidectomy. I do not want to go this route yet and am searching for some natural remedies. I have heard of using iodine but to be careful do to the fact that that might enlarge the nodules. I recently found out that I am very iodine deficient from a lab result. I have heard of iodine trapping, whereby the iodine taken in when their is a severe deficiency is immediately 'trapped' and held in the gland in order to preserve some iodine for the use of the thyroid. I would like to proceed with caution and try the iodine therapy.

Does anyone on this board have any experience with successfully dissolving or at least reducing the nodules/cysts?
