Accent LC (2000-05) :: 2003 - Stops Accelerating On Highway

Car just stopped accelerating on highway. It starts again after about 10 minutes. Also the wheel gets stiff when it stops accelerating. What could be wrong?

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Thump When Downshifting And Come To A Stop

My nice little 2002 GL 1.6 has 160K+ on it. Lately, when I come to a stop, I get a thump when she downshifts. I don't know which gear exactly, but it happens when the car reaches 10 MPH and below, so maybe when it goes into first? It is just as the car stops, it seems.

More recently, it seems as if when I get just about stopped, it feels as if she completely disengages from drive and goes into neutral. But it doesn't actually do that, she is fine when I take off. She upshifts just fine, it's just that last little bit when coming to a stop.

I have never had the transmission messed with very much, but I know it was serviced a few years ago. I did add a little fluid a few weeks ago after I checked it, and I was very careful to purchase the exact correct fluid.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Automatic Transmission Not Downshifting Correctly

Sot he automatic transmission has never downshifted correctly for me in my "01 Hyundai Accent 1.6. I am on my second tranny, but they both never downshifted properly. For it to do so, you have to come to a complete stop for it to get back to first gear. If not it kind of bangs into first. Either that or it will dog out in third once you hit the gas, but will go into first. With my first transmission, I replaced the fluid and filter and it still did it. This second transmission has about 60k miles on it with new fluid/filter and does it.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: When Coming To A Stop Sign Car Not Downshifting

So on my way home today from work I came to a stop sign and noticed my car (2001 Hyundai Accent, 1.6L Automatic) didn't downshift while coming to the stop. So I stopped and hit the gas, and the car didn't move, it only revved. So I put it in park and it banged into park, then I put it in drive and it banged into drive. Then while driving, it will only shift when you let off the gas and like 5 seconds later after you let off the gas it shifts really really hard into third I believe. And in addition, there is no reverse now! I put it in reverse and nothing, even when I hit the gas it goes nowhere.

Passat (B6) :: 2.0 Auto Thuds When Auto Downshifting After A Long Drive At Highways Speeds

My 07 AT 2.0 has a weird problem - when auto downshifting after a long drive at highways speeds, the whole car thuds. This happens after driving about 20 miles or so at 60MPH+. 5 or 10 miles are not a problem.

What happens is that when it slips down into 2nd, it sounds like something jams (no grinding). The force/feeling is similar to running into something at a slow speed - like bumping a car while parking.

If I slip into Tip and downshift manually, it doesn't happen. Outside of this the car has 22K miles and drives great.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: 2001 1.6 Auto - Transmission Thump From 1st To 2nd But Only When Cold

I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent 1.6L GLS with auto transmission.

Recently, I've noticed a hard "tump" in the mornings when it auto shifts from first to second gear. It is loud and VERY noticeable. Aftera bout 7-10 minutes when the car warms completely up, it runs fine with not thump.

I've searched the forums for this and have found no answer.

It still runs fine but the morning "thump" scares the crap out of me and startles me every time.

I purchased the vehicle used a few months ago, it has 175,000 km on it. I don't know the history of the transmission but the car seems to be in really good shape otherwise...

Accent LC (2000-05) :: 2001 Auto-transmission Noise / Vibration

I have a 2001 Accent with a auto-transmission. The engine is a 1.6 and the car has about 100,000 miles on it. I had it since about 5 years with about 48,000 miles.

While driving cross country a couple years the car developed a whining noise at about 25 mph. As speed is increased, the whining became louder. I have driven it like this ever since, moderately, never pushing it. Starting a couple months ago, the noise has become louder at 40 to 45 mph and there is considerable vibration.

I know the tranny in this car is known for many different problems. I'm just wonder what the thoughts are of others more familiar with this transmission as to what could be the issues ( a certain bearing going bad between gears?, maybe not a tranny issues ...just random ideas on my part ).

BTW, I have never had an error code develop for this transmission.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Auto Trans Went Out / No Reverse And The Only Forward Gear Is First

I've got a 2003 Accent and my automatic transmission went out, no reverse and the only forward gear is 1st. Was thinking of pulling it and swapping it for a used, but I have been reading on here the many, many automatic transmission problems of the accent and my next thought was to just rebuild it myself. But now I'm thinking more along the of a swap from auto to manual, as I don't want to have to rebuild a transmission that is only going to have to be rebuilt again anyway. As far as stuff like the clutch pedal, linkages, gear shifter, I can get those pretty easily. Does the Accent have a hydraulic clutch?

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Random Increase In Highway RPM

So yesterday driving home from work, I was cruising at 70mph, which puts my RPM's just at 3000. Then I notice an increase in RPM by about 200-300, and I didn't even move my foot or give it more gas or anything, almost like it cam eout of overdrive. It did this about 5 times. I've got about 60k on a used tranny, so I don't think that could be the issue. Not sure what it could be...

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Auto Trans Will Thud When Coming To A Quick Stop

I have an '05 accent with an auto trans. The car only has 25k on it with the original trans fluid. Every once in a while the trans will thud when coming to a quick stop. It actually doesn't even make a noise, but you can feel it going into presumably 1st gear. It only happens when I need to semi-quickly stop for a yellow light etc. right as I'm coming to a complete stop. Trans seems completely fine otherwise. Is this a normal thing? Just an older style/technology auto?

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Engine Quit When Driving Down The Highway

Driving down the highway today, my car just all of a sudden quit. I had it towed home, and checked the spark and fuel pump. It turns over fine, there's plenty of spark, and the fuel pump works great, but I don't think fuel is getting all the way to the engine. Could the fuel line be blocked or something? Maybe the injectors?

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Auto Shifting Hang Between 3rd And 4th Gear At Normal Driving Speed

My wifes 2001 Accent at slow speed seems to change into its gears ok. But when at normal driving speed, it seems to hang I believe between 3rd and 4th grar. If you let off the accelerator a little, it will change, kinda hard into gear.

Also, when decelerating, it seems to "surge" when going from 2nd to 1st and almost acts like it wants to die. this is an Automatic Transmission.

Things I have tried: replaced flex exhaust and reset a P0133 error code. Condition still exist after 100+ miles of driving. Tried cleaning MAP/MAF sensor, PCV valve. It will not showing any more codes or check engine light with this current condition. I am at a loss as where to go next for diagnostics. If I just had a code # to work off of....

Passat (B5) :: Auto Trans Keep Downshifting From 5th To 4th While Going 65 - 70 Mph

I was driving to work this morning on the highway and noticed my car was running at 3500 RPMs while I'm going 65... kind of odd, right? drop it into tiptronic, shows fourth, I shift up to 5th, and drop it back into "drive." A few seconds later I laid off the accelerator as the road started going downhill, and the car downshifted to 4th while I'm going 65... Back to tiptronic, shift up to 5th again, then shift back over to Drive.

I then accelerated a little as the road started going up hill, and the car downshifted AGAIN for no reason while I'm doing 70!!!! I wasn't laying on it at all either, very grandpa-like driving.... I've never driven an automatic car before, so maybe this is normal - but it doesn't seem normal. Once I got off the highway the car drove fine, but i dunno whats up. It's a v6 with 107k on it....

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Steering Wheel Shakes Quite A Bit At Highway Speeds 70 MPH

My accent just crossed 180K mark. From last year the steering wheel shakes quite a bit at highway speeds ,say 70MPH. It's especially bad when I accelerates . Took the car to a shop, they told me two things, the CV axle of passenger side needs replacement, and the wheel hub bearings are bad(both front wheels). They quoted me $200 for replacing the cv axle, and $400 for replacing both front wheel bearings. Since I don't even think the car worth $600 right now(given high mileage), I told them I'll just do the axle(I know how to do it myself but don't have the time, plus it won't be that much cheaper DIY anyway). They said fine, but if you don't replace the bearings you may have the wheel fly off one day and that's dangerous.

They replaced the axle, and the car drives a lot better now. There's still a little bit of shaking at high speed but 75% of that shake has gone away. My question is, does the worn out bearing causes car to tremble at high speed? I heard other people told me there should be a grinding or loud hawling sound if the bearings are bad, but I don't hear that. I searched the internet and some people say, to determine if the hub bearings are bad, just drive it for 10 minutes then feel the hub. If it's barely warm, the bearings are good. If it's warm to hot, then the bearings are bad. I felt it and it's warm, but not too hot to touch. I tried the rear wheels and those are barely warm indeed.

So from this method it seems the front wheel hub bearings are indeed bad. I wonder how long I can keep driving this without endanger myself. $400 is not cheap for this car and I don't have a machine to press in the bearings myself. I can disassemble the rotor and hub that's not a big deal, but I don't know how to get the old bearing out and the new bearing in. Is there a machine shop that just do the pressing? Or, is there any shop selling the hub assembly with bearing already in place? this way I just remove the old hub assembly and replace it with the new assembly, a lot easier. I searched the internet but can only find pre-assembled hub w/ bearing for the rear wheel of this car. I need the front ones.

Tiguan :: Going Downhill In Automatic Mode And Auto-downshifting

I was driving around some very steep hilly highways recently. I have tried this in both cruise control and normal coasting.

I noticed that the Tiguan will automatically downshift when going down a steep enough incline and a certain higher speed is automatically reached. Whether that is based on what was set by your cruise control, or even when letting the car coast down by releasing the gas peddle, it will still reach a point of downshifting automatically.

What I hate about it though is that this downshifting causes the engine to suddenly rev very high RPMs. Its also pretty loud at that point. That's bad for the transmission system right?

Usually in automatic mode driving, gear shifts up at around 2,500 RPM (mostly around 2000 RPM point). But when you are going downhill in a steep incline, the Tiguan automatically goes to a lower gear causing the RPM to shoot right up. I've had mine go up to 4,000 RPM downhill and the engine screams and spins really fast as you can clearly hear. It of course does the job of keeping the car at a certain speed, but is this bad for the transmission?

I mean, I prefer pressing on the breaks to control speed downhill. Break pads are cheap and easily replaceable. Transmission strain and failure is a whole other business. So I would prefer the strain be placed on my breaks and not my transmission system for the purposes of controlling speeds downhill. The latter failure mode will be the case if they rely on the transmission to control speed downhill.

So what is a "happy RPM" for the engine anyway? What RPM is the 2.0T engine at its most efficient?

Elantra MD (2010-15) :: 2012 Auto Transmission - Downshifting And Up Shifting Quickly On Its Own

Had problem with downshifting and up shifting quickly on its own and then engine light came on. 24,400 mi. Code P0713 Trans Temp Sensor "A" Circuit Input. They replaced it in a few hours and we will see how it goes. Had also had a problem of acceleration by its self when we first bought it and the gas mileage not being to par. Of course they said they haven't heard of that and they did an update/flash and haven't had that problem again, also had a broke front axle.

Elantra HD (2006-10) :: 2008 - Downshifting Occasionally At Highway Speeds

Have a 2008 Elantra GLS with 63K miles. A/T was serviced by dealer at 51K. Car now occasionally downshifts from 4th to 3rd when driving between 60 and 70 mph. Happens only when trans is hot (after 2-3 hours on hiway). When it occurs, it searches for the right gear, going back and forth from 3rd to 4th for several minutes before returning to normal. One thing odd is if I shut the car off for 5 minutes after it occurs, it runs fine afterwards. Do I need an ECU update or do I have a A/T problem?
