I have a 2010 Accent. My Accent has a tapping sound when the engine is cold. I have read on this site that others have had this problems and it was the chain tensioner. I was wondering if this was something Hyundia would fix for free or how much it cost to get this fixed. Is there a recall for this problem? There appears to be a problem with a chain tensioner on the 2010 model of Accent.
View 26 RepliesMy 01 accent's engine makes a clattering sound(sounds a little bit like a diesel engine) when it's first started in the morning. After warming up (in about 20 seconds or so) the sound disappears. My oil level is normal(last oil change about 4k miles ago with full synthetic oil. I normally change oil at 5k intervals with full synthetic), timing belt changed about 1 year(20k miles) ago. Should I be worried?
View 4 RepliesSo my 2014 Elantra makes a tapping/ticking sound on cold starts which stays audible after the oil gets up to temp for at least until about 10 minutes of driving. I've heard this noise since I bought the car and of course kept searching all over the forums but everyone seems to have a different opinion as to what causes it and if it's normal or not. I finally decided to drop my car off at the dealer overnight so they could start in the morning and diagnose it. They listened, ran some tests on the engine and said everything was fine, nothing was damaged and that the sound is from the second fuel pump that is located over the engine.
They tested my fuel and said it's making the sound because I'm using a heavy fuel quality, then the tech told me I should run a fuel cleaner every other time I fill the car up. This seems excessive to me? I only fill my car up with Shell gas and avoid discount places which the tech agreed that Shell gas should be fine. I only have 22k miles on the car do I really need to be running cleaners every other tank of gas? Also wondering if using non ethanol gas would fix this problem. I did run 1 tank of non-ethanol but didn't notice a difference and since non-ethanol costs more than premium I went back to regular. I will try a fuel cleaner though?
I recently notice the front right tire on my GS makes a bearing sound like at 40mph and increases at 55mph. Anything after 60mph is not too bad. I looked at the tire and notice the inner top of the tire is wavy. My brother says the strut is bad. I think not because, the car dose not bounce and strut is dry of fluids. The car has 38K miles on it, alignment was done by dealer at 35K ...
I did rotate the tires front to rear sound went away for a day and started back up again.so I know its not the bearing. Do I need better tires? another alignment? or strut?
I have a 2000 Hyundai accent. Bought the car used at a lien sale over 3 years ago, with about 120k miles on it... it now has over 197k miles on it. I have changed the oil and filter religiously since I bought it, using Castrol GTX High mileage 5w30 synthetic motor oil. I have also (in the last year) replaced the plugs with platinum plugs, the plug wires, and the air filter. A the car has always made a tapping sound when idling since I bought it, but recently (in the last week), it makes little shoemaker sounds when I accelerate. I used to associate this with detonation and adjust timing (back in the day when you could put a timing light on a car and turn the distributor to set timing). Since timing is now controlled by the computer in the car, am I right in assuming that I need to replace the timing belt?
View 4 RepliesAlright so my car is up to 112k miles, other than oil change, a battery,tires, and a new ignition (tumblers fell apart somehow) its had zero maintenance really done to it. Which I know, this means its long over due for things like spark plugs, timing belt, and other mic. stuff. Its almost all highway miles, and really has no problems. I haven't put much into it because it hardly gets driven in the summer since I ride my motorcycle. The only issue is that Indiana has had a lot of rain this year so ive been driving it more.
The Problem- for months now its made a light ticking sound on start-up for about 30 seconds, and it fades away. If I rev the engine the sound gets faster, but still takes time to go away. As of Recently, the sound has gotten louder for about the first 10 seconds, and I'm worried it may become a serious issue and leave me stranded because I drive about an hour one way to work every day. So before I start throwing parts at it, where should I start?
Timing belt?
Valve Adjustment? (not sure how to do this but I'm sure there is a guide)
Plugs?
No I'm not running a FRAM Filter, its a Mobile 1, with full synthetic oil changed about every 6-7k miles. I plan to do the belt and spark plugs as soon as I get some consistent time off, but that may not be until it gets cold again.
I have a 2008 with a tapping sound from engine - Sounds kinda like a diesel engine when cold. Not real loud.
It stops once the engine is warmed up. Is that most likely a tappet?
88,000 miles... I bought it two months ago with an extended warranty.
Came off the highway just now and there's a tapping sound coming from the engine. It's louder than the ticking these engines make so believe me it's nothing I've heard before. No codes, no overheating and doesn't seem to be anything else wrong. I am due for an oil change soon and I'm wondering if that could be it?
The engine wasn't cold obviously. I did shut off the car and then back on and it still did it. Just want to make sure my engine isn't going to explode anytime soon!
2009 Accent with a manual transmission
I am at about 65K miles so far. I changed my oil last night like I normally do. The car was on rhino ramps and as I started the car to back off the ramps, I noticed a very audible, "Tap tap tap" noise on start up, only. It goes away a second after I let off the key turn once the engine catches.
It did this when I backed it off the ramps and then when I shut the car off and waited a minute to check for it again on level ground and the same thing happened. Only two times and it has been quite as a mouse on start up since ever since. I want to say it is starter related as the noise sounds like a rapid tapping that slows and immediately stops as if the starting gear that engaged the flywheel is slowing to a stop once disengaged.
Mine is just like this other owner's Elantra. Stealership say's "it normal". Surprise, surprise!
When I asked him how come my car wasn't doing it 50 miles ago and the 2013 loaner doesn't do it, his answer was "it's warrantied to 100k". I call BS. It's the timing chain tensioner or the the guides or both.
I say Hyundai knows about this and does not want to pay for warranty work because it's a costly job labor wise. Just like the Sonata's tensioner problems of the past.

My clutch makes a hissing sound whenever i press it down while driving, its working fine, but am worried about the sound, i checked the master as well as the slave cylinder and there is no leak. Plus how do i remove the moisture from my headlamp.

If it is timing belt, does this mean time for replacement? or what could it be?
I"m getting a tapping sound coming from the dash. It happens every time I start the car(hot or cold engine) and lasts for about 10 seconds. It also happens when I adjust the fan speed for the heater/AC, NOT when I first turn the blower motor on. The noise was completely gone after I removed the heater fuse.
View 2 RepliesIt has happened three times now on cold startup my car makes this loud hissing sound then the car runs normally. Once a few months ago. Again a few weeks ago and this morning it was pretty cold maybe low 50's. I normally turn the key in the ignition to the "acc" position let it "ding" once then start the car. What could this loud hissing be that only happens on cold startup then the car runs like nothing happened? I called my local mechanic and he said he wouldn't know if he can't recreate the sound. Which you really can't because it happens once every blue moon but I wanna make sure I'm not ignoring a problem that could get worse.

View 14 RepliesI have recently noticed that my Azera makes a "knocking" sound right after starting the engine. It just about a dozen of fast short knocks one after another and it is gone after 2 seconds (like a diesel engine started on low temp. It appears more often when the engine is rather cold.

When I start the car put it into drive first time at or near to the first gear change point get a thud sound (sound from the rear, maybe left rear as face vehicle). However as drive the car around coming to a stop without turning off the vehicle, on acceleration no sound. If I park the vehicle on restart and acceleration get the same sound but depending on the amount of time the vehicle is out of gear the sound seems to be lessened (less time less sound).
View 3 Repliesmy '06 Honda CRV makes a short scraping sound when turning. But more interestingly, it only makes this sound when the car has just been started. If I've been driving, the sound will not occur. The sound itself is a short scrape which seems to originate in the rear passenger side of the vehicle. I've researched this problem a bit, but everything I've turned up is related to the AWD model, while my CRV is 2WD. Just had the brakes serviced and checked, so that's out as well.

Recently, I've noticed that the transmission makes a 'tapping' noise when it shifts or downshifts. every gear has that same slight 'tap'. the tranny shifts fine, smooth, but this sound worries me a bit. any chance this could be a u-joint issue?
