I just picked up a 2002 Camry with 137K miles and I can hear a rattling noise coming front passenger's side front suspension when tires are going over road irregularities. The car rides smooth so it doesn't seem that the struts are bad so was wondering is it a bushing or something in the front drivetrain (CV joint?). Interested enough my wife's 05 Lexus E330 with slightly less mileage makes the same noise on her driver's side.
View 5 RepliesBeen having this problem for about a month now, and it seems like it keeps getting worse. The shocks feel like they are handling bumps ok....I feel no difference in how the car handles really.....but at lower speeds, going over bumps or pavement variations, I have a thuddy/clunky/floppy (I don't know the best way to describe it) sound coming from the suspension. I think it's from the front. I remember we had something similar to this before but it was in the rear, and I think the culprit ended up being something with the sway bar maybe? This front problem sounds much worse than the rear did though.

I put lowering springs on a few months ago and a pop/clunk has developed. There is a tiny lip of pavement just past my garage door and it clunks as I back out at an angle over it. Worse case I can check the torque on all of the bolts.
View 2 RepliesI already changed the two front struts but the clunk its still there when i hit a bump or irregular surface, the dealer told me that I have replace the two front strut mounts too (I have a 2007 Camry SE V6 w 112 miles on it), that can solve my problems?
View 4 RepliesMy front suspension has been making some noise for a while now, and lately has been getting worse. So I want to replace whatever the problem is, but having trouble figuring it out. Everything looks ok, and the methods I researched aren't giving any clues. The one question I Have is, should I be able to move any of the parts by hand? There are two that I can wiggle back and forth pretty easily, but I don't know if this is normal or not. One is a thin vertical piece parallel to the strut, the other is behind the wheel and low in the back (a tie rod?). Don't know the part names, have worked on my vehicles for a long time but never the suspension.

Over the last few weeks, my '12 Azera has developed some sort of noise I assume to be from the suspension, particularly on the right front. When the car sits for a long amount of time, there is a bumping/rattling noise when driving it. It takes a long time for it to go away. If I drive it a bit, turn it off for a bit, then drive it again, it won't do it any more.
I'm thinking it could be the strut mount bearing. I had a GM car that did the same thing and that was the problem. They replaced the strut mount and never did it again.
So I'm coming from the MK5, MK6, & CC/B6 Passat world. On those cars, they were notorious for having the front subframe "clunk" noise. The suframe would shift back & forth, creating a "clunk." This was VW's fix: [URL] ....
Anyways....I've noticed this about 5 times now I'm on my '13 Passat V6.....when I go to back up into a parking spot. And that's the ONLY time it's done it too.
Going from Drive, I put it into Reverse and then turn the wheel a little (NOT even all the way) and hear a "pop" or creak/clunk....definitely from the front. So my guess is that it's the subframe shifting. Only 400 miles on the car too, btw.
I just got a 01 passat the new body style got 197k on it and the suspension at front is making a squeaking noise like an old mattress, what that could be?

It sounds like a metal on metal tingling sound....I want to think it's a loose camber plate? It gets louder when I'm on the highway. Even on a smooth road I hear the noise continuous when the car is moving above 50km/h.
My car has been driving in a city where there are many potholes..
I just had some H&R springs installed and my front suspension is making a funny noise.
It sounds like the front springs are clanking around..
Any 'rattle' from their front suspension when going over high-frequency, low speed bumps (manhole covers, potholes etc)?Sounds like a loose strut mount or shock. It's not a creaking sound - a definite rattle - so I don't think it's the engine mount issue that I've read about elsewhere. Car is brand new and is going in for a 60 day courtesy check in a couple of weeks.

View 4 RepliesI have the 2013 Accent with nasty knocking noises from the front. Have the same thing with my 2009. I opened the hood yesterday to fill the washer fluid and noticed I have a gap between the insulator dust cap, body or frame and strut insulator. I can almost poke a pencil through the gap. I am to think this is not normal. I have about 16000 kms on the car.

View 1 RepliesSo I got a steering problem and it's got me going crazy. I have a 06 g35 sedan lowered about an 1.5 inches. It's been about 5 months since I lowered it, lately I've been herring clunking noise in front suspension, not all the time but only sometimes when I turn. The other day my steering got really stiff and when I turn the steering won't return to the center. My Power steering isn't making any noise and I'm good on fluid. A lot of people say my ball joints but don't they usually make a lot of noise when they go bad ?

I recently about a year ago installed DG springs it did this a little before I replaced the springs but now its louder. it sounds like either a mount is loose or something is broken. I live on a dirt road so I hear it a lot on the small bumps. could it be the upper strut bearing? or the fact the coils are shorter? I have 112k on the clock and Id like to take it to willow springs soon but am concerned about this. One more thing it doesn't drive weird..
View 3 RepliesI am trying to find origin of clunking noise, but it is difficult to do as there is no visual signs and no excessive movements in any components.
Little bit of details and video. Noise occurs when moving rapidly steering wheel on stationary car with running engine. Not noticeable when at speed. Wheel is not vibrating and cv joints not clicking. Very tiny free movement in steering wheel about 1mm, but I am not sure if that is related maybe a completely different issue there. Mot tester make an advisory note that steering system slightly rough, but its not that useful to find an issue.

My 2002 Passat Wagon (2.8L, FWD) has started developing a clunking noise at 67,000 miles in the front right suspension. Based on forum search here, it sounds like a common problem with the control rods, tie rod ends, ...
I looked at the control arm kits available at ECS Tuning. Is this a DIY job for someone with only moderate mechanical skills? I have never performed front end suspension work before. How difficult is it? Special tools needed?
If I had it done (both sides, upper and lower) at an independent repair shop, how much might I expect to pay?
Lastly, is it best to replace all the parts (as provided in these kits), rather than isolating the part that is currently causing the clunk and just replacing what needs to be replaced?
So I've recently dropped the car with ST coils and during the install, I had the mechanic installed NEW strut mounts and strut bearings because I've heard people having noises if they only do the coils.
However, even with the new strut bearings/mounts, I would hear clicking noises at low speed going in a out the parking spot or parallel parking (not every time but getting close). Therefore, my questions are:
1. If strut bearings/mounts are new and put in at the same time as the coils, what other reasons could there be that's causing this clicking noise?
2. If the noise doesn't bother me and I can live with it, would there be any negative effects for not having this issue taking care of?
I just bought a 2007 2.0T Passat with 25,000 miles. It makes a lot of noice going over bumbs or when front end dives especially when it's cold. Is this a well known topic?
