I have a 2009 Camry 5Speed Manual and have had a noise and loud thud coming from my steering whenever i turn the wheel when I am accelerating out of first gear when disengaging the clutch and turning the wheel. For example, if I am in a parking lot and am traveling at extremely low speeds and turning the wheel while in first gear I can hear and feel a thud in the steering wheel.
View 2 RepliesNot a huge deal, but my '06 XLE has a steering shaft clunk, I'm assuming that it's the collapsible shaft making the noise. I notice it, I don't dare mention it to my wife who drives the car. I'm at about 60K and I have read about the problem before, I was just wondering if there was ever a TSB on it.

I am looking to replace the intermediate steering shaft as it making noise it seems they are common to this problem due to a weak U joint. The problem I have is I can track the correct part. Here is what I have research so far:
Have found this one 55351246AA but it says it will not fit.
Also found the Dorman 425-257 but it says is for 4WD but it reference to this OE part numbers: 55351208AA, 55351208AB, 55351246AA
Have try the Dodge parts website but that is even more confusing. I have already replace the ball joints, wheel bearings and inner and outer tie rods and this is the last part that needs to be replaced if I can track the correct one.
Our 2006 Honda Odyssey had a power steering pump replaced in the spring. It makes a loud whining noise especially when turning. Our mechanic said this is normal!! It looks like air is in the line as the fluid looks foamy. Is there a special way to bleed the lines?
View 10 RepliesVW Rabbit 09 - Makes a loud noise coming from the back of the car, at first I suspected exhaust, but it does not get louder from hitting the gas. The noise gets louder the faster car moves starting around 20 mph. It sounds like it is running at high RPMs but the tachometer does not read over 3000 RPM. There is no check engine light on currently, in the past the light has come on after driving through puddles and then the car could not shift into the higher gears and would be stuck at 40 mph.Eventually, it would resolve itself. I have inspected the exhaust but I can not see anything that would cause the noise. The transmission does seem a little sluggish to shift, but it is a smooth shift.

When I hit the brakes it got worse but got better as I slowed to 30 mph. View 7 RepliesWhen it rained recently, the windshield wiper started making a loud squealing noise whenever it would wipe down. When I would spray the windshield fluid, the noise goes away but returns when I stop. No noise when it wipes up or when the rain is light drizzle or very heavy. So only noisy when rain is medium to heavy.
I thought maybe something sticky got on the windshield so used a regular glass cleaner multiple times but it's still noisy. What it could possibly be???
Our 2010 LE has been making a noise while steering. When you steer it left and right, it clicks. Regardless of whether the vehicle is moving or not, it still clicks. It sounds like its coming from under the upper steering column cover behind the steering wheel.

When I turn to the left it makes it louder, when I turn right the noise decreases. PG&E have been breaking the roads by where I live and there's a lot of little rocks I drive thru. I'm wondering if that's the problem?? What do I do?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2002 camry and I flushed my power steering fluid today using the following procedure:
- emptied the reservoir
- connected return hose to a bucket
- added new fluid (ATF dexron III - from toyota dealer)
- jacked front wheels
- turned steering wheel side to side till new fluid came out of return line (my reservoir did get empty couple times in the process so air may have went in)
- lowered the vehicle
- reconnected the return line to reservoir
- ran the engine and turned side to side couple times (did not see bubbling and fluid level did not drop)
I took the car for test drive and noticed that my steering wheel was still making noise when turning. Also, when i was turning the wheel side to side with hood open, I noticed a change in the sound. There was a sticking sensation and steam pressure release noise when I locked the wheel on either side.What could be the problem?
I finally have a first 'major' problem with my Camry 2004 V6 XLE right at 75K ish.
The last two days I've been hearing my power steering pumping making that familiar 'whirrrrr' noise. I thought it was just the pump going out because it has always made some noise when it was cold. Lo and behold, I checked my fluid today and found it was completely dry. I knew it wasn't a good thing because when fluids are dry, they must go someplace. Either way, I got a gal of Dextron ATF in the trunk now.
I filled it up and all was good, so I started to look around for obvious leaks. I did find a hose going to a metal line that DID seem to be dripping, but I wanted to see if maybe others had the same problem and found it was to be a different thing leaking/running down or if this is a common issue.
Not sure if the hose is a dealer only thing. It does look like it's leaking from the end. I could get one of those screw tightening clamps to see if the clamps isn't putting enough 'squeeze' on it. I couldn't see a tear on the hole, but I'm assuming it's a high pressure hole, so it won't leak unless I'm doing a lock to lock turn.
It appears the knock I heard isn't from the suspension, its from the intermediate steering shaft. You can actually feel it in the steering wheel. The vehicle is out of warranty. I still don't understand why toyota wont fix this since its a known flaw in the design of the car.
View 9 RepliesI just recently replaced the inner and outer tie rods an got a 4 wheel alignment on my 2005 camry le and now whenever you turn the steering wheel all the way lleft or right, it makes a loud groaning noise, and it sounds like something is scraping kinda? What this could be an how to solve this problem? It is not low on power steering fluid...!
View 3 RepliesMy buddy has a 2011 250 and is having some weird issues with a clicking noise. It started out when you put the truck in gear (D or R) and touch the gas it would click. Seems to be coming from the middle to rear part of the truck. Now it clicks when he's driving. This all started after he got 35's and a leveling kit. It's taller springs in the front and added a block in the rear. It has less than 15k on it.

View 1 RepliesI picked up a '99 Passat 2.8 GLX tonight and the steering is making a loud squeal and groan when I turn the steering wheel. I checked the fluid and it's brown. I've owned a lot of VW's and Audi's and I've never seen brown fluid in one. I checked for a leak but there's so much oil everywhere from where the previous owner just had the cam seals, timing belt, water pump, and a bunch of other stuff changed. The level looks good, but it's just nasty and loud.

View 2 RepliesToday my engine started making loud sputtering sounds, I checked the oil and it was completely gone based on the dipstick. I was shocked since I had an oil change not so long ago. My current millage is 103,500 i assume now at such a millage that oil consumption is very high. I poured some 5-20 synthetic oil in, but my engine continues to make sputtering sounds however, they are less audible now. Is it possible my engine is damaged?

Having issues with 2009 Honda Odyssey. I'll describe, but I can't be certain these things are related.This morning, battery was dead for no apparent reason. No lights were left on, etc. Battery is brand new.After jump-starting, car ran fine for a few moments, then starting making loud intermittent "buzz" sound from engine/radiator area, down inside maybe on the left side of the radiator. There was also smoke rising from the engine.
I don't know much about cars, unfortunately, but cursory research suggests it might have something to do with the AC system.

My car is making almost like a clunking sound when starting. It doesn't do it all the time, mostly it is when its a cold start but its happening more frequent. I have the push button start, would warranty cover this?
View 2 RepliesOur 2012 Prius with now 17,000 miles in 8 months has developed a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel, especially far to the right at low speeds.
The first time the dealer identified it as a failed intermediate shaft and replaced it under warranty. Shortly after we told them it was starting to make the noise again, but they claimed they couldn't replicate the sound and anything they heard was normal 'linkage' (whatever that is). Shortly thereafter the clunking progressed so we took it in for now the third time, and they confirmed the problem, spoke with Toyota who said we must have had a bad part, and replaced it again.
