I have a 2002 Celica GT automatic and it wont shift out of what seems like 3rd. The car starts and runs fine and reverse works great but when I put it in drive it seems to be starting out in 3rd and will not shift out of it no mater how fast or slow I go. I tried to manually shift from low to 2nd and then to drive and nothing it still starts in 3rd. What may be causing this?

View 1 RepliesMy 2002 Camry has an automatic transmission that works fine except when it is about 20 degrees or colder. The problem is that the transmission does not want to shift from first to second gear. After about ten minutes things shift normally. Other than that I have had no issues with the transmission.
View 3 Replies2002 Honda CRV. Has 62,000 miles. When 1st started there is a noticeable hard shift from 1st to 2nd. If you drive a short distance, say 2 blocks and come to a stop and take off again it shifts smoothly, will shift fine the rest of the in town stop and go driving. ( Does not matter cold or warm ) If you shut off the vehicle for just 5 minutes. the same thing happens, a noticeable clunk shifting 1st to 2nd. Do notice that the rpms do go up past the normal shift rpm, so if you let up on the accelerator it will not clunk or hard shift. Trans oil has been changed, did not notice anything in the drain oil. Fluid was normal color.Does this transmission have a filter that should be changed? Did some on line looking and see some mention of a linear solenoid?
View 1 RepliesFound on road dead is right, my car has 160000 miles before it broke down. The early symptoms that I noticed was my brake light would come on every now and then. When my car first broke down a plastic pin or clip that connects to the column above the transmission next to the senor disconnected. I noticed this when my car wouldn't move and then I put it back into the hole so it can shift into which it did when I started it. I then went to a store and got a metal pin to hold it in place so I can shift into my gears.
After I left the store about 30 min later I was trying to get up to speed and my car wouldn't go over 45 mph and then wouldn't shift into any gears and I parked it on the did of the road. I later replace the plastic pin that holds the shifter cable to the transmission column and still nothing. I then thought it was the transmission range sensor because the brake light is on and still nothing. When I turn on my car the brake light remains on and I can shift out of park and when i do that it will shift threw all the gears. I'm starting to think my transmission gone but I'm confused why the brake light is on.
I have a 2002 Santa Fe V6 2.7 liter, FWD, 215,000+ miles. When it shifts from 2nd to 3rd the whole vehicle jerks. It does not do this on the other gears. I took it by a transmission place for a free scan and they said the transmission is fine.
View 19 RepliesWhile in drive, transmission does not shift into the first gear (once in motion transmission shifts between 2-5 without any issues), but all 1-5 gears available while in Tiptronic mode. The check engine light is not on. Is it a transmission problem or a control/wiring issue?
View 3 RepliesAt 37 mph and transmission shifts to 5th gear a violent shift occurs. The fist time I thought that I had hit a cement block! It only happens in triptonic or if I leave the shift lever in 4th gear and exceed 55Mph. My local VW dealer said a new Transmission would cure it.
View 8 RepliesI have the above referenced car with about 65k miles on it. Today I took it for a drive, switched it to tip-tronic manual and found that the car would not shift past 3rd gear. When I switched to automatic, the transmission stayed on tip-tronic (the display indicated I was on 3rd gear). I had to fully stop the car, place it on park and only then did the transmission switch to automatic.
View 1 RepliesI own a 2002 Escape, 4WD 4cly manual trans. A couple of days ago, when I left work I stopped at a stop light. I shifted out of gear while I waited for the light to change like I always do. When I went to shift back into gear, I couldn't. I found that if I turned the key off, with the clutch disengaged, I could shift into gear without a problem, start the car up and drive away.
Since the first time this has happened, it has happened a few more times, always when stopped, once or twice while slowing down to stop (low RPMs). Besides all that, the car shifts fine while driving.
My Jaguar X-Type has a 5-speed manual transmission, and when I am driving and shift up, sometimes it starts jerking pretty violently like it might be slipping out of gear, and I have to shift into another gear to get it to stop. It seems to be exacerbated if I am accelerating. I can always get it to stop by shifting, but am afraid at some point that it will not slip into another gear and I'll be stranded. I had a mechanic look at it but he has no idea what is causing the problem and I don't want to pay for multiple repairs that may or may not fix the problem! The car's got about 125,000 miles.
View 2 RepliesHave an 02 Auto with the 2.7, 4wheel drive, and it doesn't shift into 5th gear. Can go through the 4 gears with the manual shift, but when just in drive, only shifts up to 4th. At 65mph, RPM's over 2500.
View 3 RepliesMy 4.65L V8 Explorer has an issue in low gear - RPMS rev high but car doesn't shift up.. eventually "catches" with a jerk but the OD Light started flashing and the Systems Screen reads Check Transmission. Light goes out and message goes away after turning car off and restarting. Had one Tech look at it - he said second gear is toast and need full transmission rebuild. Another Ford Tech looked and could just be solenoid needing replacement and advised to have a transmission service (not a flush) done....

My Car has Been Cutting Off During Acceleration into 2nd Gear... At first I thought it was my battery post and the Grounded wire which was frayed, I replaced with New... problem persisted...I bought a new terminal for the Post...After Stopping and Going..

So i was trying to adjust my freinds shift linkage on his o2j and i got a little ahead of myself and forgot to put the shift tower in the home position before making the adjustment. after i realized you can't shift into second ( either that or 2nd and 4th are extremely close together now and feel like the same gear ). I try to get it in home position even with the cables off ( did this for experimentation) and still wouldn't go into home position...meh. still have all the other gears including reverse .

The problem: Very hard to get a smooth shift from gear to gear. Trust me, I know how to drive, but I can always feel the car shifting into a different gear if you know what I'm saying. On my friend's bone stock Jetta, I just let the clutch out without gas in between shifts and you don't feel a thing.
On my car, you feel EVERYTHING. People have told me the light flywheel will make the ride more uncomfortable in many ways, especially since the RPMs drop much quicker in between shifts than stock.
I have a 2001 Toyota Celica GT, automatic with 177,000 miles, it has been very well maintained. I started having a problem usually just after starting when it is still not completely warmed up. I try and shift it into reverse or drive, and the shifter says it is in those gears, but the car acts like it is in neutral. Once it gets a little warmer I can try it again and it will slowly shift into reverse or drive, usually though the rpm's seem to go a little higher than normal while it shifts. It seems to drive pretty well after this, shifting-wise, but not exactly perfect.
When it is completely warm though it usually drives really well - mostly I do a lot of highway driving. The transmission fluid is full, and looks perfect, nothing in it, not burnt. Previous owner had it changed a few years ago I believe. The check engine light is on and the codes are Speed Sensor A P0500, P0770 Shift solenoid E. My speedometer also works perfectly by the way. I don't have a lot of good shops around and I feel like the ones that are closest to me will see dollar signs in their eyes when they see that transmission code and will just try and replace the whole transmission right off the bat.
Had probs. with 5th tear to start. It started to pop out of 5th gear when I let off the gas, eventually not going into 5th anymore. You could put into 5th but when you let out the clutch it would just grind. Now the other day I drove it to work because I had no other car to take and I made it there with no issues using 1st-4th. My work is 42 mile away with a speed limit of 60 for about half of it Now when I am ready to go home from work I have no gears at all. It will not go into any gear at all. The clutch does not feel spongy it does have some pressure and linkage appears to be intact.
View 4 RepliesI was on 2nd gear driving and once road opened clear, I kind of pushed on it when I attempt to switch to 3rd, I missed and slapped it into 4th gear. I slowed down to attempt downshifting into 3rd, there wasn't any gear. I pulled over I noticed I could not go to neutral nor switch to any other gears. The car runs but only when clutch is pressed and once lifting up feet it dies.
Now its just stocked on 4th gear. This car was a swapped from a 5sfe GTS to 3sgte motor .
