Does the shift selector on the 92 Celica ST, lit up when the other lights comes on, like when turning on the headlights, and if so, how to replace such light? like what I would need?

View 1 RepliesWhen I park my car and shift the selector into "P" the car will not allow me to remove the key until I jiggle the selector. I get a "please shift the selector into P"
After it's jiggled it unlocks, and I can then remove the key. I would prefer to fix it myself, rather than take it to the dealership.
My 2004 Explorer XLT 4.6L V8 AT is very difficult to shift out of park. Sometimes I have to push very hard on the brake in order to get the transmission selector out of park. Other times it is no problem.

The first pic shows the torx screws that come loose, allowing the handle to get sloppy.
The second pic shows the black plastic adjuster wheel that centers the gear shift selector needle on the proper designated gear displayed in the indicator window.
Catfish is a '96 4wd extended doggie RV, with 175k. It has developed transmission selector problems in the last few weeks.
The shift selector stops seem to be going soft. It's not to bad going from P to OD, but I have to fiddle with the lever almost every time I put it into reverse.
Particularly harrowing when trying to do a quick turn around in traffic. What's going on here and what I need to do to fix it.
Put foot on brake, selector in P it will start but will not shift.
Put foot on brake, turn key on, put selector in N it will start and shift R or D as normal EXCEPT do not shift to P as it will lock up and you have to start all over again.
Selector is basically aligned on the letters appropriately.

Got in the car today and moved the gear selector into the manual shift mode. Usually there is no play forwards or backwards. Today there was about 3/8 of an inch travel forward before the spring tension started. I'm taking the car in tomorrow to have the console latch replaced but was wondering why encountered this anomaly in the shift mechanism?

View 2 RepliesWith my '04 V8, recently on my dashboard the selector gears light-up entirely, where as typically just the selected gear is highlighted with the orange box when operating. Make sense? P, R, N & D all are highligthed in the orange color.
It does this inconsistently in both automatic and tiptronic. Just last year I started using the vehicle to pull our pop up camper. No problems last year and it pulls fine. Two weeks ago on our first weekend out camping, using the tiptronic I noticed that all speeds where highlighted.
Sound I be concerned about this? I called local dealer, they had no clue. I called VW and they said take it to a dealer. The vehicle seems to be operating just fine.
What does it mean when the PRND2 area all illuminated at the same time? Normally only the gear selected will be illuminated, but yesteday I got a solid bar illuminating all the gear selections. Couldn't find any reference to it in the manual. Shut the car off and restarted and the problem went away.
View 24 RepliesI have a 1999 F-150 w/ 4.2 V6. and auto trans, truck has 219,000 miles on chassis but only 25,000 on engine and 10,000 on trans. I've been getting obd codes p0705 and p0715. I replaced the position sensor on outside of trans. but I continue to get the codes off and on again. I noticed that the O/D "OFF" light on the shift selector blinks simultaneously when the "service engine soon" light comes on. I've noticed that there is no low gear unless I have it in D from a dead stop, and not even when downshifting manually.

View 3 RepliesMy Excursion is having an issue with the 4x4 system. The. 4x4 selector switch on dash lights up properly for 4x4, but the auto hubs don't actually engage. The hubs will lock only if I manually lock the hubs. I can hear relay click, so I don't think its electrical. The hubs had new o rings installed when I did front ball joints a few thousand miles ago, and the 4x4 worked fine up until today.
View 5 RepliesI have noticed that I have to hold my gear selector towards park to get the reverse lights to come on. Also some times I have to hold it towards park to get it to start. I changed my tranny in Dec 2009 and occasionally it would do this while starting, just noticed the reverse lights about a week ago. Tried moving the cable where it attaches to the tranny a couple of serrations each direction. No luck. Is there another place I can make an adjustment?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2002 Celica GT automatic and it wont shift out of what seems like 3rd. The car starts and runs fine and reverse works great but when I put it in drive it seems to be starting out in 3rd and will not shift out of it no mater how fast or slow I go. I tried to manually shift from low to 2nd and then to drive and nothing it still starts in 3rd. What may be causing this?

My Car has Been Cutting Off During Acceleration into 2nd Gear... At first I thought it was my battery post and the Grounded wire which was frayed, I replaced with New... problem persisted...I bought a new terminal for the Post...After Stopping and Going..

Today, without explanation the shift indicator on the dash on my 98 Passat Wagon highlights all gears. When you shift to any gear. . . . the display does not change. Further, shifting is rough from 'park.'
I noticed this problem after looking at all the fuses to see why the radio was not powering up. I have checked fuses. . . . and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in.
Just picked up a 1999 F-150 XL, 4.2L V6, 5-Speed. Spent half the day rewiring the headlights back to factory as a previous owner did a bunch of wiring that made absolutely no sense. (Foglights or KC lights?). Anyway, works great with the exception that the headlights turn on when I turn the selector to just parking lights. I removed all but the factory wires under the hood. I haven't been behind the dash yet to check the headlight switch and I was hoping to avoid doing so. A fuse or relay that may be causing the issue? I don't have a service manual yet so I haven't been able to identify all the fuses under the hood.
