My 2004 Explorer XLT 4.6L V8 AT is very difficult to shift out of park. Sometimes I have to push very hard on the brake in order to get the transmission selector out of park. Other times it is no problem.
View 1 RepliesI had a clutch, slave cylinder, and master cylinder replaced about 20,000 miles ago. Everything seemed to be working fine until I drove across the Rockies. The transmission was extremely difficult to shift, and the vehicle would actually roll forward when cranking the engine at fuel stops (temps were minus twenties). Once I got out of the mountains on both ends of the trip (where it was warmer), the clutch worked normally. The local Ford dealer found lots of air in the hydraulic clutch system, bled it, and it worked fine for several months.
The clutch is doing the same thing currently, but not all the time. Some days it's fine, other days it's difficult to shift although double clutching seems to work. It gets particularly hard to shift after a long drive (e.g., interstate driving for a couple of hours). I took it back in this morning to see if the dealer could figure out what is going on, they're saying it's likely a bad slave cylinder. I've heard the 1995 Explorer clutches are a bear to properly bleed, and can't work but think there may still be some air in the system.
I am looking at a used 2003 X with a 140k miles. The truck is very clean and seems mechanically sound. This will be my third X! The only problem I found is the trans selector is difficult to move. Once driving the trans seems fine. No leaks anywhere. I believe this is cable actuated? Is this something minor or should I run away?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2014 Prius C and for the last month or so it's sometimes difficult to shift from P. I always park car with handbrake. It's specially difficult if I push down hand brake before stepping on the brakes and car shifts a little while on park. Car has 35,000km.
View 9 RepliesI recently had a spin out on the ice in my 2001 Honda Oddessy Minivan and had to have the back wheel and front rim replaced. I definitely hit the sidewalk at least once and ended up backward in traffic with the back of my van on the sidewalk. Just after getting the work done I noticed for the first time that my car was having trouble shifting out of park into any other gear when starting and when I had it running but put it in park. I have to either press the brake several times, all the way into the floor to get it to shift out of park or pump it once or twice quickly and when I hear a little click, shift it into gear. Is this a transmission problem? Could it have been caused by my spin out?
View 3 RepliesMy son has a 2008 Ranger 4.0 4wd 5 speed. Every month or so we need to bleed the clutch as the transmission becomes very difficult to shift. It does not lose fluid, but seems to be holding air. And it's not easy to bleed this setup. Slave going bad? I guess the transmission will need to come out then.

I have a 2008 F-150. When moving gear selector from park to either reverse or drive, trans has a delay engaging. After engagement, it runs fine, shifts ok, downshifts ok....

When I finally got it stopped, I tried to shift it, and it wouldn't shift to any spot. Then it became stuck in between Park and Reverse. I can't move the gear shift.
View 1 RepliesIt is a 2003 xlt 4.6 auto. sometimes, but not too often, when you shift from park to reverse nothing happens, no go backward.... even if you mash the go pedal. if you shift to drive then back to reverse it works fine. Not predictable enough to show it in failed mode to the mechanic. Is this a common simple fix? would this issue throw a code? (No blinking or idiot lights on dash when it does this) is there something I can tell the tranny guys to look at since it is on my dime? Somthing like a shift solenoid or something...
View 2 RepliesI bought a 2010 V8 Explorer on Monday and aside from the apparent "known issue" with the hard 2-1 shift (which I'm trying to get it to "unlearn" by driving differently), it's a really nice truck.
When I shift into reverse it says "Park Aid On/Off" in the display, and sure enough, it beeps when I get close to something. That said, there aren't the normal "dots" in the bumper that I normally associate with backup sensors.
Everything works just fine with it, I just am a guy who likes to know how things work and I don't see anything on the outside that would indicate it's a parking sensor.
On my 04 150 auto, the clip that holds the shift cable to the trans selector shaft broke, Ford says i need to buy the whole cable and what did you do?
View 2 RepliesI have a 04 W12 that is having trouble recognizing that it is in park. when i shut the car off and go to remove the key it says please place in park. i purchased a known electrical gremlin car so i am chalking it up to that but should probably fix it. it also does not detect the speed the car is traveling so no digital speedo/ accompanying readings. other than that it is pretty solid. haven't noticed any other "glitches" the park problem is new started yesterday. i have had the car for 2+ months and love it. i have been looking for a W12 for some time now. a

View 1 RepliesI searched for a prior post on this without success. I have a serious problem with my '04 V-8 transmission shift lever being stuck in Park in cooler weather. Ny wife is the primary driver, and on some cooler mornings it is almost impossible for her to move the shift lever out of park. She has to let the car warm up a bit, and then move the lever around a bit with all her might before it will finally move out of park. The dealer can't figure out what is wrong. It only appens when the temperature is below about 50 degrees, and with winter approaching, frequent problems lie ahead.

Hybrid battery has been replaced with a used one and all systems seem to work fine except the shift lever in the "Park" position does not lock the transmission. No big problem as long as the Parking Brake works. Preliminary investigation does not reveal any easy fix.

View 24 RepliesI have had a 2000 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 liter 4 cyl Automatic for about 5 or 6 years now. I have noticed the whole time I have owned it that when I start the car and shift from Park to Drive I hear a clunk and the with the hood open the engine pivots back and forth one time more than it is supposed to. This only happens from park to drive, it does not do this from park to any other gears, and once the car is in drive everything is normal. The car has no shifting problems at all, no slips or clunking while driving or hitting the gas real fast on take off.
I changed the all three mounts on the car yesterday. Upper engine mount (still in decent shape), lower dogbone (tore to hell), and Transmission mount (decent). I really haven't noticed it get any worse over the years I just know its not right. I have never changed the fluid or the filter since I owned the car, and most likely it has never been changed in the cars life. Could a dirty filter, and dirty fluid cause this problem? Or could the linkage need adjusted or replaced?
I have a problem with my transmission slipping. It seems to happen most often when I have shifted from park into drive and am going uphill. I don't really notice a problem with it when I am on flats or even at red lights. It can drift backwards for 10-15 feet before "catching."
I don't feel any problem when I am going faster or in higher gears. 1999 Ford Explorer SOHC 6 Cyl 4.0...
