I got in my car this morning. When I went to crank it, the starter just started spinning. It kept spinning while the key was on. It never kicked in and engaged. What the fix will be? How do you remove the starter?
View 5 RepliesOn a 2ZR-FE 1.8L what keeps the cam bearing shells from spinning? This would be the shells closest to the cam chain, sprockets etc.
Are there the little tabs that are bent out at the end of the shell like a rod bearing, or are they locked into position as the cam cap is tightened?

Saturday I changed the starter because the old one was going out and I didnt want it to die so it was preventaive. Went to put in the sparkplugs but the dealer gave me the wrong ones, drove to the dealer and they pulled out one I had to check it and put it back in. (I had 9/16 long plugs, which is rare for my engine apparently.) I went to leave, and when I turned it over, nothing happened. I pulled the Key out, waited 5 seconds, started up. Went home, put in the sparkplugs and drove about 300 miles since Saturday and no problem.
Today I went to leave and the car turned over multiple times, after the 4th, it acted like it was starting but shut off and kept turning over.
First, I checked all the wires on the plugs and around them, even pulled all the plugs and put in the old ones. Same problem.
I unplugged the battery and hoped if it was a computer glitch that it would have fixed it. Same problem.
When I turn it over, the started keeps going and it will pretend to turn on for half a second and then keep turning over. I also smell raw gas when I get out of the car for a few seconds before it goes away.
The last time it did throw codes, but I have no reader. I have to wait for the neighbor to pull them. Is there anything I can test or check out? Everything as far as the wires and fuses look good. I am at a loss for where to go.
This issue has been happening for a few weeks now since it has been around -10C here. When I start the car it starts just fine but then the starter grinds against the flywheel (same as if you tried to start while car already on). I did a quick search and found that the relay may be faulty, Car is at 87000 kms.
View 5 RepliesA lot of videos have audio of a knocking sound, however my sound is more akin to an extra crank of the starter. It's intermittent at best, and I thought it was actually use error until I noticed the sound occurred a few times even when I briefly cranked the engine.

View 1 RepliesSo I want to disable the ABS on my Corolla. I was wondering if I could pull the fuse in my bonnet to disable the ABS and if I were to do so which fuse would I pull.
I think if I were to pull the fuse from the interior, the other car features that are tied into the fuse wouldn't work.
If I can't pull the fuse in the bonnet, what are the other ways I could disable ABS? I read that removing the relay is an option.
Also is there anything I should know if I were to reactivate ABS? For instance, would the ABS light be off when I presumably reactivate it or do I need to perform some extra steps to remove the ABS light?
My 09 corolla has a whine at around 35-50 mph it does sound like its rpm related. When i let off the throttle it isn't as loud.

I was wondering would the 2.4 2az-fe fit in to my 1.8 corolla I want to get a bare block or blown engine and build it up and turbo it and then put it into my corolla. Would the 2.4 bolt up in place of the 1.8 and if so where I can get a bare block or a complete engine?
View 10 RepliesMy wife was driving our Jetta (08 2.0T DSG) this afternoon when it cut off on her. She eased off onto the side of the road and tried to refire, but the starter was just spinning. I popped the hood and the oil was extremely low, so I thought that might be the issue. I put in a quart of oil and everything looked good...tried to start the car, and it's not firing at all. I disconnected the battery hoping that resetting the car would work, but the car just wouldn't turn over or fire...it's like the starter is spinning itself and everything else connected to the belt, but not the motor. I had to leave it about 30 miles away, but plan on going back out in the morning to mess around with it.
View 2 Replies09 le 1.8 135k miles. Had serpentine belt break while driving home, pulled over, had car pulled in on a trailer. Pulled old belt and found water pump was bad along with belt broken. replaced both, car would fire off as should, but would still run hot while leaving parked running. pulled thermostat, found it would not open until about 15 degrees above opening temp. replaced thermostat, now car will turn but won't start.
Disconnected battery to try and clear any codes that would prevent it from starting, still won't start. have had to charge battery a couple times so wondering if it's the battery not having enough charge to start car up? i wouldn't think so, and it doesn't make sense for it to be plugs since it was starting up without a problem before changing thermostat.
The air coming out when the on the drivers side is significantly warmer than the air coming out on the passenger side when the A/C is cranked to four. At times it is borderline hot unless I kick back the setting to a two or three and then the sides even out a bit more, but it still seems like the right side of the car is much cooler.

I've had my '09 Corolla for almost exactly 1 year and I've put 22k miles on it. All oil changes with Toyota elements and conventional oil at 1k miles and Mobil 1 5W-20 at 5, 10, 15, and 20k.
It's rattling like it isn't getting oil at start-up... intermittently. Sometimes it starts up just fine and others it rattles like it doesn't have oil for the first second or two. What's going on here?
I'm about ready to take it in to the dealer for an assessment, but with it being intermittent and all, I'm not expecting to be well-received. I know if I was looking at this as a used car and I heard what I've been hearing, I'd run.

View 1 RepliesWierd thing happened this morning to my 2013 Corolla. Put key into ignition switch and put it to "ACC" but wasn't paying attention and went just past the detent. So then a sound like the radiator fan under hood started. Turned it to "IGN" and it went away.
I can recreate this. If you go to "ACC" and slowly keep turning eventually a relay kicks and the fan (not AC, but a loud noise like radiator fan) comes on. Going to either "ACC" or "IGN" will stop it? This normal?
Im new to this modification game but im very eager to get started. I have a 2010 LE and am kind of put off that a majority of parts seem to be made for the S model, the only differences I know between the LE and S is looks am I wrong? And are there any aftermarket Head Units with a screen that are reliable and not cheap looking or feeling? Also I haven't really seen a definite answer on whether coil overs or springs are better for a drop?

View 2 RepliesI've got a 2009 Corolla CE, 5 speed. I've only had the car since september and had no issues until now. Now that there's snow on the roads, my car's ABS has starting coming on a lot more. Whenever it comes on, there's a noise that sounds very similar to grinding gears in a transmission coming from the front of the car. It's the first car I've ever had with ABS, and I've never heard this noise in any of my friend's cars with ABS, so I don't know if this is normal or not.
