Our Elantra Coupe has 3000 miles on it and leaks ATF. Everyday I see more than a few drops underneath the drivers side. We took it to the dealer. They "re-tightened the bolts" but the leak continues. I crawled under it, removed the plastic belly pan and took some photos.

About a week ago I began noticing a burning smell. I first chalked it up to being 1,000 over the 3k mark for an oil change. However I then started to pay attention when I parked if there was any sign of fluids leaking. At first I didn't notice any or seemed like one or two drips. Well tonight I noticed a larger puddle that was def not water.
The other symptom is that it's been shifting up at higher RPMs. Tonight when I got on the freeway I was trying to speed up to 65 but the rpm gauge had me at over 4,000 rpms with normal acceleration...I was not gunning it. I also could not get the car to go past 60 at first, all the while the rpm increasing still, until I let off the gas then hit it again and seemed to trip it to shift and was able to get to 65.
I have a 2011 Elantra with 73k miles. When the automatic transmission fluid should be replaced? I can't seem to find any info on this. My transmission is starting to shift slightly rough. I've contacted 3rd party mechanics about doing the job, and they said they cant do it since there isn't a place to fill the transmission fluid under the hood.
They claim that the Elantra has a sealed transmission and needs to be done by a transmission specialist.
So I lifted the car up to get under there to change the oil when I noticed the transmission side was covered with fluid.
The mileage has never been good with this car for us and it never liked to shift (would race up to 4000rpms at times before shifting with minimal throttle). So I am beginning to believe that this might be the cause of it. We haven't noticed any spots in the driveway and the dealer has done all the service before this.
Car has 9000 miles now and is a 2012. It goes in tomorrow because that's the earliest the dealer had an appointment. Will update with what they say.
Recently changed the transmission fluid in my 2011 Elantra. Used the fill plug to check fluid. Small steady stream was coming out. Closed it up and took it for a ride. Was shifting very rough. Put more in and it felt better. Was wondering if there is a better way to check the fluid? I've heard that the dealer may have a sensor, is this true?

View 2 RepliesTopped off my brake fluid 6 months ago. Last week my brake light came on. I checked and I only had half the fluid left so I topped it off again. Today I went out and there was some kind of oil near my rear tires and my light came on again, needs more brake fluid.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2001 silverado 5.3, I have a stream of transmission fluid leaking down from the top of my transmission, I cant see the top of the tranny so I don't know if its a hose or what, but oil is everywhere, what was the diagnosis. It was fine yesterday no problem, and now once i start it up about couple mins fluid just leaking.

View 2 RepliesI have an 02 camry and the transmission appears to be leaking fluid around the transmission pan. The tranny shifts fine and I wiped the pan noticed the leak to get a little worse since the last time I was under to change the engine oil. Does that pan have a gasket or does it seal with just hi-temp sealer?
View 6 RepliesMy R is weeping a small amount of transmission fluid from where the front right axle mates up with the transmission. It's not a lot. If I leave my car parked for a few days I've only got a few drops on the garage floor.
I've talked to a few buddies and they've said everything from "you drive your car too hard and blew out a seal" (which I don't) to "well you don't drive your car for 5 months of the year, so the seal just dried up" (which could be true). I had VW check it out a few weeks ago, but like an idiot I cleaned it up before I brought it in, thinking that it would be weeping by the time I got there. No such luck however; so they checked the level of the fluid, declared it good, and told me to come back when/if it started again. Car drives fine, and there's no notchyness in the shift feel or anything like that.
I took my 1993 Ford Explorer for an oil change they told me I also needed a rear differential service and a transmission service, so I told them to go ahead (this was on a wednesday). On friday the car broke down leaking transmission fluid (reddish oil). The clutch was making a sound when pushed in and we were not able to shift. I towed it back to the place where the oil was changed the gentelman open something under the car and he said that it had transmission fluid. He got on the car turned on and push the clutch when he did that a lot of fluid began coming out (reddish oil). He said it was the clutch that went out. We think they messed up the transmission. I towed the truck to a garage and the guy mentioned something about a plug related to the transmission. Could the oil people have done something wrong to the transmission that made the car break down???
View 4 RepliesMy truck is leaking transmission fluid. I know you are going to tell me that i need new seals but, i have taken this truck to many mechanics and they assure me that its not the problem. It is leaking out the vent. There are two holes in the transfer case that we aren't sure if they are plugs but we plugged em anyway just to see what would happen and its still leaking so...not a fix. Apparently this is a rare transfer case and even rarer information to be found bcuz this model was only made for two years and because they were pretty reliable finding people that actually worked on them is even harder. Should I just buy a new transfer case or is there a way to fix this?

Automatic Transmission My son was trying to back up my empty 12' flat bed trailer up a hill (approximately a 25 degree hill). Why'll I was at work, my wife said he was having alot of trouble, and it was taking him awhile. She said she saw transmission fluid on the ground and stopped him immediately,and he turned off the engine. There is a trail of fluid on the driveway about 100' long and a 1/2" wide. This transmission has allways been solid, and only leaked a few drops on the driveway in almost 300,000 miles. what probably happened, and what I will need to do to fix it. I have allways worked on all my vehicles. But I know better than to get very deep into a transmission.
I get my oil change at the Toyota dealership instead of Lexus and save quite a bit of money for my 2013 ES350. At the 30k service, Toyota technician said he noticed transmission fluid leaking at the axle seal." I was gonna show Lexus this at some point, or maybe get an oil change there at the 40k service.
View 3 RepliesSo when I had my timing belt done my mechanic showed me that I had some transmission oil leaking It didn't look like much but looked like it was coming from gasket my v6 Passat has 200k on it and I heard that transmission fluid shouldn't be changed on any car with high mileage the transmission doesn't really act up sometimes when its cold it takes a little bit of time to shift to first but when its warmed up its just fine, what are my options, a full drain and filter change, which I am skeptical about. Adding some new fluid, I just gotta know if I gotta replace the drain plug. and then just a fluid change drain and add.
View 7 RepliesAbout 2000 miles ago, I had the transmission on my liberty serviced. I had the pan dropped, the fluid drained / refilled, and the filter replaced. The work was done by a jeep dealer. The jeep ran fine with no rough shifting or error codes - in fact, I drove it 500 miles this weekend without incident. This morning, I backed out of my garage and found a big puddle of red fluid on the ground.
I warmed the vehicle up, and checked the transmission fluid level. It appeared to be low, so I added some (about 1/3 a quart). I then looked underneath the jeep and observed red fluid leaking from the transmission pan area. I ran my finger around the bottom of the pan and ended up with more fluid on my hand.
The fluid is clean - no discoloration or burnt odor. What might my problem be? Could it be an improperly sealed trans. pan? Something else?
The jeep is an '03 and the transmission is original to the vehicle. Bought it with 83K and have done fluid / filter changes at 90K, 120K, and 153K. Currently at 155K.
So, had a transmission fluid leak. Couldn't find the leak so I went to a transmission shop. The diagnosis is that a snap ring broke and resulted in a hole in my tranny, something about reverse gear pressures weakly designed snap ring.
Not too happy about this, being that I had thought that the transmission was the strong point of my truck... Is this common?

Fluid is leaking from the rear end of the transmission. The black stuff is some instant weld fluid...
I have replaced my cv axle and seal, and now I have transmission fluid leaking from the axle seal. What could be the cause of this? The seal is brand new as is the cv axle. Could it be that it the seal isn't seated correctly? What could possibly went wrong to cause this?
View 3 RepliesDaughters 94 f150 4.9L 204K miles e40d started leaking transmission fluid from the bell housing, so she parked it for 2 years...Now I have been nominated to fix it... Truck was running good when parked. Got it started (Just charged battery and started it up), and backed it up. Reverse is good and solid. When I tried to move it, it wouldn't move in drive. Starts to engage, then drops out. Pulled into first, and the truck moves, but have to have high rpm.
Replaced tc seal, filter and fluid, (12 quarts). No change... Ran it down the road, had to start off in first, good power up to about 35, shifted to second, it shifted...ran up to 45, then shifted into drive, it shifted, and maintained power. Had to slow so stopped and turned around, tried moving out in drive, and it just kept dropping out. Returned home as I left...read a lot of this forum, and learned some but not enough..
