It feels a strange noise like a shutter closes around Gear Nob/Handle while applying brake and the brake pedal is half pushed, approximately;
Even the car is in Parking Position and you push brake pedal, it half way pushed and Tick/Click noise like a shutter closing sound and then goes.
It quite hear able noise and coming from some time now.
I think something is wrong with my brake. I only have less than 3k miles on my 2012 Elantra GLS. But now, when I apply brake to stop from either a very low speed or high speed, I always hear a clear click (only one) sound which probably comes from under the car or brake pad (front driver's side). It sounds like metals collision. When idling, applying brake does not make any sound.

Sometimes if I disengage the parking brake, and set my car in Drive on a flat surface, my car does not advance (I'm not pressing the gas). This tells me that my parking brake is sticking! If I apply the gas slowly, I hear the brakes "clunk" off and I finally get going.

View 12 Replies2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 4.7 L. Clock from right side of engine immediately after starting engine. Seems to be in rhythm with engine and increases in frequency as I rev. Gradually subsides over first 5 minutes and not audible after that. Recent small leak of transmission fluid, but I'm thinking that has nothing to do with this.
View 12 RepliesMy wife and I are new Elantra owners, car is just about to hit 9000 miles on it. I don't know when the noise started happening, but wasn't too long ago. My wife is okay with it, but as for me I find it rather annoying that the car is so new and already making noises. I call it a click but she describes it as a thunk.
Here's the details. The car is an automatic for starters. The noise mainly happens when accelerating from a dead stop. I'll be at a red light and when it turns green, I let the brake go and gently step on the gas and click...there is the noise. Its just a single click, loud enough to annoy me and loud enough that I could hear it when the radio volume is set to 12 or so.
It has also happened mid driving when I release the gas pedal to slow down without using the brakes. Right when I release it, I hear the click...once again a single click.
Now I have taken it to the dealer as a concern because that click wasn't there when I bought the car. They told me it was normal and after waiting 2 hours for a simple oil change to be completed I wasn't ready to argue with them. But I am getting to that point that I'm ready to argue with them, considering the car is so new and still under the warranty.
I just recently started driving... with a second hand hyundai accent. Whenever i stop at traffic light with engine on, i hear tick tick noise (probs from engine?). it seems to be coming from front of the driver seat. When I start at the beginning, I do not hear any noise and also when i am driving i do not hear any noise or lets say nothing audible like this. Its only when i stop my car and while i am waiting, i hear this tick tick noise(very clear and audible).
Is it engine metallic part making sound when cooling down? When I start my car I see symbol for low oil pressure, batter life, check engine, but as soon the engine starts these symbol disappear which I think is normal behaviour.
I have been experiencing a slight issue with my 07 Sonata V6 lately. When I am accelerating, most commonly when already at speed around 80 to 90 km/h, I would hear this 2-3 ticks / clicks when I press lightly or moderately on the accelerator pedal. The car would accelerate fine without any further noises. When I release the pedal, the car slows down a bit, and I press on the pedal again, then the same sound re-appears.
View 2 RepliesMy 2012 Elantra has 16k+ mi. on it and recently I've noticed a noise while accelerating. It typically occurs when first accelerating between 1st and 3rd. The sound itself is hard to describe as I am not a professional so it's hard to find the right words to give an accurate description. It sounds like something rubbing together or perhaps something loose. Any insight into possible causes for strange noises while accelerating on a car this young? It doesn't happen every time, typically when first beginning the drive and occasionally when beginning from a dead stop at a light.
View 19 RepliesWhen parking on an incline, say my driveway which is pretty steep, I engage my emergency brake. When I release the brake I get a creaking noise as I put it in reverse to back out of the driveway.Two questions is using the emergency brake really going to keep my car from rolling back down the driveway and does the creaking noise mean the emergency or rear brakes are being stressed by holding the car in an incline for several hours each day?
I really worry some days I am going to walk outside and my car will be in the neighbor's yard.
Here's the story, noise first appeared while accelerating to merge onto highways and then applying gentle braking. Sounded like "seagulls". Not my description. To me it sounded like a rubbing pulsating noise. Would not go away unless you came to a full stop. Then would appear again every other time you entered highway at, say, 85 and applied brakes to slow down to 75-80.
The kicker is, that was 35+k miles ago. Annoying, but three different dealerships never found anything and the service techs always made big eyes once you mentioned 85+ mph. "Oh, we can't legally replicate that"
Fast forward to now (meanwhile rotors changed, pads, tires) - the noise seems to appear randomly at lower speeds. It is also quieter (barely noticeable above 65).
Example from today - left dealership sporting new tires and a fresh proper 4-wheel alignment.
After accelerating to ~50 noticed the sound. Couple miles down the road stopped, made a U-turn - sound gone. Could not replicate for a while. Then had it twice on "straight and level" segments, seemingly random. On cruise control at 55 (hear it the best at that speed) sounds stay the same regardless of rpm (6-5-4 gear - no changes). Pulsating gets quicker-slower with speed. Very gently decelerated to 25 - noise went away completely, pedal to the metal back to 60 - no noise.
I'm at a complete loss as for what it can be. Turning makes no impact, no play on bearings (and I'm pretty sure those would have died long ago if it was them), rotors changed with zero impact, tires too.
Changes over time - got quieter and started to appear at lower speeds.
All stock except for H&R Sport springs on stock shocks. 88000 miles
It's a 07 prius with 65k miles. I realized that it is making this squeaking noise while going over bumps "ONLY" when the brakes are applied.
I have 2 toyota dealerships checked. 1st dealer said no noise and 2nd dealer also said no noise... then, i requested to drive with the mechanic and he somehow heard the noise while I am in the car.

I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid 4WD. Whenever I apply the brake pedal past a certain point, I hear some sort of clunking type of noise from the front of the car. The noise can be done when braking hard, or even if I am at a stop and just press the pedal down hard. It sounds bad but I have not noticed any issues in braking performance. Everything is stock, brake pads have 60-70% as of my last serving. What this is and if I need to be concerned?
View 4 Replies2005 F-250 6.0 4x4. After about 50,000 miles on my original brakes, they started to make a squealing noise when applying moderate brake pressure and slowing down around 30mph-0mph. It only happens after Ive driven the truck about 30 mins. It must be warmed up. After 100,000 I decided to change the brakes.....they had plenty of life left on them, but I changed them anyway. I put on new rotors and pads and calipers in the front because one was hanging.
After about 10,000 miles, the exact same squeal has returned. With the windows down, its loud enough to physically hurt your ears if you are next to a car and the sound can bounce back into the cab. It sounds terrible. I thought it was the front brakes, so I took them apart this weekend to put in some Disc Brake Quiet. They pads look great, plenty left, the rotors look great, no grooves. Everything is tight. I relubed pins and brackets and clips. Today...same squeal still. I am at a complete loss here. It is some sort of harmonic squeal and the only thing I can figure is that the rears are the culprit. I have a drivers rear caliper that will hang and stick if you drive it really hard, so I am considering replacing the rear calipers too and do the disc brake quiet treatment there as well. Im not confident this will solve the problem.
Like I said, its so loud you can't drive with the windows down. Its a piercing squeal. Is there anything else that I can check? I can't imagine others don't do this. Its so loud and pronounced that it must be some sort of design flaw or something.
Okay, I never experienced this on my Prius C, but now that's I've upgraded to a 2013 Prius Plug-In, I can duplicate it:
When traveling on the highway (at like 60MPG) and I brake a little hard (but not pedal fully to the floor), I hear and feel a 'click' through the brake pedal as it slows through 25MPH. A car pulled out in my lane, and I had to brake suddenly and felt/heard this 'click' at that speed. Did some testing on an off-ramp with the same situation (50MPH - heavy breaking - feel/hear click at 25MPH).
I think this is the transition from the regen braking to the brake pads, but I'm unsure. Not sure if it's ABS either. I've looked at a ton of Gen3 braking threads here on PC, but I was unable to find my exact issue. The car only has 3000 miles on it,
Loving my upgrade so far (but having weird fueling problems - doesn't seem like I can 'fill' the tank, always lose the first 'blip' too fast), and enjoy the freedom of being able to charge for local driving.
I know its a normal function of the car, but has noticed when you come to a stop at a light or what not, you hear a click, like a servo or something in or near the shifter (automatic). Not worried, just would like to know what it is that clicks and why?
View 8 RepliesMy click sound is inconsistent, but typically, it's when I make a hard right or left turn. This being said, there are times I've was making a slow turn and my car still made the click noise. The turn can be a small one while in the lane for the off ramp of the freeway or a sharper turn around the corner. My impression is that when there is more force towards one side of the car, my steering wheel shaft is clicking. I also notice there's a click sound when I turn into a dip like when I drive out of a driveway onto a street that's lower than the driveway. The sound is also typically paired with moderate braking and turning. Someone who was in the car and heard the click and mentioned that it might happen when I make a sudden turn.
The single click is coming from the exterior of my car (I can hear it clearly when my windows are down) and around the engine area. I don't physically feel anything when I hear the click but I'm afraid that something may become an issue in the future. The click is also slowly driving me insane!!!
I've already gone back to my dealership and I bought this car brand new. It started happening almost immediately after I bought the car. When I took it in, they said they tightened a bolt (didn't specify which).
I've asked so many individuals and they can't think of anything. It's definitely not a CV issue because the car is brand new and the sound is a single click rather than a continuous knocking.
My local dealer had a special on an oil change, tire rotations, and break inspection and my 2011 Elantra GLS auto w/ 20k miles was due so I took it in.
After I got it back I noticed a noise I had never heard before when reaching speeds above 45mph. The best word to describe it would be "thumping".
I figured maybe due to the rotation the tires might need to settle in, but I've drove about 50 miles since getting it back and the noise isn't even slightly going away.
The worse part is my avg. MPG went from easily/consistently being 40+ down to low 38/high 37.
Should I just give it some more time or start to worry the service guys messed something up? Until today it's been the perfect car.
Really enjoying my first Lexus RX350, but there seem to be some noise issues...
1. When shifting the gear, especially in the morning, from P to R, it is not smooth making some annoying noise. Is this normal?
2. Also, when releasing the break, there is some sort of a "thump" noise.
Don't think it is a big deal, but just wondering if these are considered normal.
I posted a couple of weeks ago about my car making a single click instead of starting while turning the key. The dealer finally got the car in the other day and initially called to tell me that the positive cable was loose on the battery. Then called back a while later to say after trying the start the car after it was sitting for a while it again made the single click and didn't start. I never bought the battery cable story since I knew it couldn't be that loose, I checked. But instead they found the starter itself was the issue. I was thinking it may be a loose cable on the starter itself and was surprised to see the starter had burned out already. A new starter was ordered and will be installed on Tuesday. I am not sure who makes the starters for these cars but a 2012 starter should last years. In comparison, my 96 honda civic is still sporting the original starter after 17 years and a couple hundred thousand miles.
View 29 RepliesI have a new 2015 Elantra GL Manual that seems to have an E-brake that does not feel like it holds the vehicle solidly. I know that the E-brake is probably a small drum brake setup in the rears only but feel like an adjustment can be made to really ratchet that lever up better?
The other issue is a humming, buzzing, vibrating sound in the front passenger side area at hwy speeds. Maybe a vibrating splash shield or rock stuck under the shield?
I was also able to get some new alloy rims for a good price (FAST brand) from the dealer (believe it or not). They aren't the sexiest things to look at but I needed another set of rims anyway to winters and the price was better than plain steelies. I'll probably use the OEM steels for winter now and alloys for summer. The alloys are a little wider at 7 inches than the OEM 6.5 inches and much lighter. I plan on getting Michelin X-Ice soon.
