Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 - Intake Thumping Noise That Varies Speed With Idle

Nov 28, 2014

I have recently bought a 04 f250 6.0, and it has the intake thumping noise that varies speed with idle... I was told it could be a broken rocker, a bent push rod, or a broken roller... I am not that much experienced with diesels. I've spoken to the dealership, and they don't wanna fix it, they said it wouldnt hurt it to drive it like that, but the noise bothers the hell out of me, and everyone notices it. so i wanna get it fixed. I am hoping its just a rocker. if it is just a rocker how deep am i in? truck has 240xxx miles on it, and runs perfect other than that noise.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Thumping Sound Coming Through Intake Like Exhaust Valve Is Staying Closed

I'm looking at maybe trading for a 2004 F350 with a studded and deleted 6.0. It has a "thumping" sound coming through the intake like an exhaust valve is staying closed. My question is, how common is it for the rocker arm retainer or rocker itself to fail? It has 204k miles, and the owner says he was on his way home about 2 weeks ago and it just started doing it.

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2011 - Thumping Noise Under Hood?

My 2011 F350 - 6.7 has developed this KRAZY thump, snap noise under the hood, loud enough to be heard inside the cab, and I cannot find out what the heck it is. It is not directly connected to the motor, you can rev it and the noise does not change. the thump is like, every few seconds or so, especially when the motor is cold. I am afraid this is a 2000 dollar noise and the truck is out of warranty.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Intake Air Temp Sensor One Circuit High And Strange Idle?

I have a code for iat sensor 1 circuit high. It's the only code I can pull. I replaced the sensor in the manifold and still no change. The truck revs up when started but kinda finds its idle rpm after a second and the idle fluctuates some when the truck is warmed up too. I have a snap on solus and all parameters seem to be good. Icp sensor is also new thinking it might be the cause. Other than that the truck runs perfect and doesn't miss a beat.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Thumping Noise After Rolled Into Throttle Up To About 95 And Then Backed Off

I have an 06 f250 superduty, 6.0 . Last week I rolled into the throttle up to about 95 and then backed off. After which it developed a thumping noise, not metal, more like an air thump in the intake. Not throwing any codes, still runs strong, pulls boost, etc. The motor does have 285,000.

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Thumping Noise From Exhaust - Code For #6 Low Contribution?

I have a code for #6 low contribution and a thumping noise out the exhaust. When I turn number 6 injector off the popping/ thumping goes away. Truck is straight piped and deleted. It started doing this after getting on it hard to get on the high way. Sounds like beating an empty pop bottle on something

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 F250 Crank But No Start - Popping Noise Out Of The Intake?

My 2003 f250 6.0l just up and quit. It make a popping noise out of the intake when cranking. I am getting 1150 psi at the icp and ipr is at 62% which seems high to me. The FICM voltage seem fine unless the batteries are drained and I am getting FICM sync. I replaced the HPOP, ICP sensor and IPR about a year ago. I recently replaced the air conditioning compressor and power steering pump. I am at a bit of a loss. I did pull the IPR and everything looked fine.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Small Black Smoke Puffs And Intake Popping Noise When Accelerating

Title says it all... Starts & idles pretty good. No codes. Has decent power on mild acceleration, any time you step on it more than 1500rpm it lets out little black puffs of smoke and intake makes that popping sound and truck jerks a little...EGR delete. HPO pressure is good. Injectors are fresh as of a year ago. Valves? Lifters? Turbo?

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2005 - Low Idle Miss And At 55 It Chugs Once Up To Speed

2005 6.0l - codes are P0261 Cylinder 1 injector circuit low. PO263 Cylinder 1 Contribution/balance and PO270 cylinder 4 circuit low. Ficm still reads 48 plus or minus .5. What is really puzzling is how changing the oil cooler and the EGR cooler would create these problems. Did I screw up the injector harness. Vehicle does not smoke either white or black. Low idle miss and at 55 it chugs once up to speed. Don't want to go Ford if I can avoid them. Whats going on.

Bmw - 328 :: 2000 - Idle Speed Varies Occasionally

My son owns a 2000 BMW 328i... sporadically, and without warning, the motor will speed up at idle, going from 600 rpm to 1200 rpm, then down to 700 rpm, then back to 600 rpm. This happens intermittently, when the motor is warmed up...

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: CEL Code P02E1 - Diesel Intake Air Flow Control Performance

My truck threw a CEL after the first start today. The CTS reports it twice. I noticed it about two minutes after start.

P02E1 - Diesel Intake Air Flow Control Performance

The air box gauge is green and it doesn't reset when I push it so that appears to be fine.

The one thing I can easily notice is the sound of the turbo. Typically when I stop and park, the turbo spools up, then down, then spools again and gives a sigh of relief and it's then silent. It's not doing that currently.

Now, I can hear it constantly when parked and it spools down after I turn off the engine, even two minutes later. That is not normal for my truck when I wait for the above to finish its routine. When I start the truck, the turbo immediately spools to where I can hear it which is also not normal, as if it's building 0.5 psi. I realize that's funny to say on a turbo diesel but I know the sounds of my truck. The EGT's are fine, EOT, ECT, TFT are fine and I can build boost when driving without issue. I took the drive to work easy this morning so the highest I noticed was 10 psi.

I restarted the truck after a 20 minute drive to the office and it didn't clear the CEL. The CTS squawked four times when it woke up the second time but it didn't show me which PID it was upset about.

I'm thinking this has nothing to do with the CAI and this is something downstream of there. EGR related? I haven't opened the air box yet, at work and in dress clothes so that'll need to wait. My past four or five regenerations all started between 1.94 and 1.97 soot gpl. That is also not normal and is something I have been keeping my eyes on. Currently the DPF is at 2.10 so it has made it further. Normal behavior (post emissions flash) is above 2.54 soot gpl for an AR.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Bang Noise When Speed Up While Driving

While driving I went to speed up and heard a bang. I lost all drive. I have no movement in any gear. I got the truck home and looked around. Trans fluid looked and smelled ok. I couldn't move the rear drive shaft by hand with engine in neutral. I drained the transfer case and that fluid looked fine also. What it could be or what else to look for. The truck is a 2006 f350 with 6.0 and 185,000 miles. Up to this point I had no trans issues.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 - After Start Up Rough Idle And Power Lag?

Have a 2004 f250 that is having issues. Once the truck is started the idle goes from normal to loud almost sounds like its going to stall. A few weeks back the same happened when i was on a red light. It choked almost to where it was going to die. I accelerated when light turned green and would not move at all. I had to literally use full throttle to get out the road at about 5 mph. I pulled in to a gas station and fueled up as i had a quarter of diesel left and it stopped the rough idle and power starvation once i started the truck up again. It sees like this time its getting more persistent... FML AND THESE 6.0 problems

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 - Rough Idle - No Power?

I recently bought a 2004 6.0 extended cab truck. It has 223,000 miles on it and has been running great. Bought it here in Arkansas where I live and recently drove it to Texas and back after having just put some Hot Shot oil treatment cleaner in it. I ran it the 1000 miles as it suggests. Just the other day as it was hitting the 1000 mile mark the truck started to lunge/runaway and stalled. I finally got it back home and started looking into the issue. Based on what it was doing, (lunging/running away, and at idle in park random burst of rpms and then dying after doing it a few times), I started to do some research. Most of the answers I found claimed it was the IPR valve. I found that the IPR valve is supposed to, as claimed by some, be pulled and inspected every 100,000 miles are so and if need be replaced or the rebuild kit gotten for it. So I decided to just replace it as well as the oil, oil filter and fuel filters.

When replacing the IPR valve I noticed that it was original and that its screen was missing. I didn't have any problem moving the little piston in the center of the shaft with a small bolt however that doesn't really mean that it isn't bad. I tried a magnet to see if the screen was still in there and nothing came out. I did not try using a camera as I do not currently have one, to look inside the port to see if I saw it. After replacing the IPR valve with a brand new one and changing the oil I started the truck. It seemed to be running a little ruff so I let it warm up. Not one minute later the exact same thing started happening, lunging/running away (random increase and decrease in rpms), so I called it a night. The next morning I decided to change the fuel filters. No that it matters the order in which I did it, but I changed the top end filter first and the the one on the frame with the dealer recommended OEM filters as was the case with the oil. I did find in the filter on the frame that there was a small amount of sand and clay soil looking matter in the filter. I did clean out the filter housing as well.

After replacing the filters I started the truck to warm it up. I noticed that it was still running a little ruff but no random, lunging/running away (random increase and decrease in rpms). However after five minutes it started coming back. I finished letting the truck warm up and took it for a drive. Got it up to between 7-80mph for about 15 miles to try and see if I could "blow out" whatever may be in the fuel if that was even an issue I do not know. The truck seemed to get more power and run a little more smoothly so I stopped at my buddies house not to far from where I was and let it idle. No issues other than a little ruff idle. After about 10min I took off towards home doing similar speeds. I noticed at a little over 2000rpms that the truck was shaking a little but so I dropped the speed down. When I got home not more than one min after idling the same issue, lunging/running away (random increase and decrease in rpms), started happening again.

At this point I took back to the interwebs and came across a post that said the ICP might be bad and does cause this issue, lunging/running away (random increase and decrease in rpms). However I also noticed that this is a huge debate as to whether or not the ICP can cause this. Ford master mechanics say no and other mechanics say yes and round and round it goes. I decided to do the simple test many recommended which was to simply unplug the ICP and see if anything changes. Things did change. No more lunging/running away (random increase and decrease in rpms). Not more than two minutes after plugging it back in, allowing the computer to account for it now, the lunging/running away (random increase and decrease in rpms) came back. In the middle of it doing this I unplugged it and that went away. So needless to say I replaced the ICP and voila the lunging/running away (random increase and decrease in rpms) is gone but the ruff idle is still there along with a slight loss of power.

To answer some questions:

1. The oil and water are not mixing so I am almost positive that the heads are fine

2. The intercooler couplings are leaking a bit. I have ordered the new ones and will replace them as soon as they come in. Can this cause the issue?

3. I am blowing no white or black smoke except for when the lunging/running away (random increase and decrease in rpms) issue was present and the truck almost died. It would knock occasionally when it almost died and would send a slight puff of black smoke which I assume is a low or high fuel issue from the truck trying to die

4. I have not had the no start issue at all

5. I did not see any debris in the oil during the oil change

6. I didn't do the air test on the ICP port as I do not have the adapter.

7. The only code I got on the IBD II port was when I unplugged the ICP which was to be expected

8. I found no damaged wires

I am at the point where I am wanting to take it to ford to have them run a diagnostic on it but am wondering if there is anything else I need to be looking for. Here are a few questions I have.

1. Does this sound like a bad injector? (When I bought the truck it would sound like a misfire or ruff idle condition was present for about 5-15 seconds and then it would smooth out with no issues. It would run a little ruff if you tried to take off without letting it warm up, which I did once or twice and low rpms, but when it warmed up no issues were present).

2. Could this be the HPOP?

3. Could this be the FCIM? (The previous owner had replaced the FCIM not to long ago with one from Ford I believe. Said it cost him something like $700)

4. Could this be something clogging the oil screen under the manifold?

My final question right now is do any of you know where or what brand OBD II reader or software I can get for a decent price that will tell me the voltage of each injector and FCIM is without me having to go to Ford to get it looked at.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 - Heat Up During Idle

I have a 2004 Excursion Limited with a 6.0 PSD. Recently I have noticed my temp, I have a Scan Gauge II, slowly climbing when I am idling. On the highway it runs anywhere from 175-205 depending on time of year and load I'm pulling. Lately I have noticed it starting to climb while sitting in a parking lot at idle after coming off a steady speed run. Temp goes from about 175 up to about 205 just at idle. It is a slow creep up not a dramatic change. I have checked my coolant levels and it is full. I have made sure the front of the radiator is clear.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 F250 V8 - Hard Start / Rough Idle / Shaking - No Power When Cold

I'm new to diesels. I just bought a 2004 F250 with the 6.0 V8. I have the high and low circuit, contribution codes on cylinders 4 and 8. I've only had the truck for a few days but I've been reading a ton. The symptoms are hard start, rough idle/shaking, no power when cold. When it heats up and I'm over 2000 RPM it seems to be just fine. Even when hot and below 2000 RPM it does ok. I've check the FICM. It reads 48V with key on and 48V running. My plan is to do the following:

Change the Fuel Filters
Change the oil filter
Change Air Filter
Change oil with 5-W30 synth and I have both Hot Shot/Rev-X

If that doesn't work, I'll replace the two injectors. How does that sound.

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Location Of Air Intake Of Cabin A/C System?

Where the air intake for the cabin air conditioning system is? The past several trucks I've owned had a cabin air filter which I replaced annually. They get filthy and I can see why this dirt should not get into the evaporator coil. It will reduce air flow and here in Texas we need all the air flow we can get (106 today). It shouldn't be too hard to improvise a filter to wrap over the intake (for a cheap fix).
