I have a 2008 Ranger sport. When set on max a/c can only feel a small amount of air coming out of the vents. Compressor gets cold an condensates. Would this be a problem with the actuator not opening the damper all the way?

View 2 RepliesI have a 2007 F350 with 140,000 miles. I just received my first oil analysis from Blackstone and it shows a small amount of coolant in the oil (296ppm Potassium, 30ppm Sodium). Iron at 47ppm and Lead at 12ppm are elevated as well. This is at the end of a 5000 mile oil change.
I have no oil analysis history to say if this has been occurring for any length of time, and have no runnability issues. Oil/coolant temp delta is 8-10F unless towing, and I have seen no coolant loss since replacing the degas bottle a couple of months ago.
Where to look first. It seems most oil/coolant encounters result in the oil going into the coolant, not the other way around. I haven't done an analysis, but have not seen any oil residue in the degas bottle.
BTW, no coolant shows up on the dipstick either, so it is a small leak at best.
My R is weeping a small amount of transmission fluid from where the front right axle mates up with the transmission. It's not a lot. If I leave my car parked for a few days I've only got a few drops on the garage floor.
I've talked to a few buddies and they've said everything from "you drive your car too hard and blew out a seal" (which I don't) to "well you don't drive your car for 5 months of the year, so the seal just dried up" (which could be true). I had VW check it out a few weeks ago, but like an idiot I cleaned it up before I brought it in, thinking that it would be weeping by the time I got there. No such luck however; so they checked the level of the fluid, declared it good, and told me to come back when/if it started again. Car drives fine, and there's no notchyness in the shift feel or anything like that.
I just replaced my front rotors and brake pads this afternoon. I took it for a test run around the block and had allot of smoke come off the rotor on drivers side. I concluded that it had seized, and replaced it with a new rotor. I then test drove it a good two miles to fill the girl up with gas, when I got home I saw that my passenger side rotor had a faint amount of smoke. Granted I did a sloppy job and there was brake fluid everywhere. With all that being said, when I drove her to get gas it did not pull to the right, jerk or pulse. I was able to stop on a dime, I guess I want to know if this small amount of smoke is just the new pads adjusting to the new rotor?
View 3 RepliesI have a 04' RX 330 with 92k. It has small radiator leak. If you are standing in front of the car and look below the fan on the left side of the radiator you can see a small amount of red fluid that has leaked out of the radiator. However, the leak isn't big enough that I ever have to add coolant I just top it off when I get the oil changed. Also it doesn't puddle on the pavement when parked.
The only thing I really notice is that my windows tend fog abit easier now so I assuming the moisture must be making its way into the ventalation somehow. My mechanic said its about a $700 repair. My question should I fix it and is $700 reasonable. Also I've never had the timing belt replaced would it make since do have this done at the same time as the radiator. How long will it take before it becomes a major problem instead of a minor annoyance?
I purchased this vehicle this week.69k miles..driving 25 miles to my home the temp. control beeped...near my home...my son added near 1 gal of anti freeze....that night there seemed to be a small amount of leakage under the radiator (but none since that date 11/24/14 or 2 + days ago ).. the coolant level in the radiator appeared down 1 inch on one check. On the last check after running and then off...the radiator level was up to the top and the reservoir level was at 1 inch. My son thought there might be a fine/mist spraying in the area near the left lower side of the radiator..since that time with the motor running I placed a piece of file folder down near where he thought there was a mist and saw none on the folder... this car was owed my an elderly person and likely was not driven often of late.

View 3 RepliesMy front disc brakes are creating a small amount of drag on the rotor. With the car jacked up and wheel off I am able to easily turn the rotor by hand, but there is a small amount of drag. I haven't had any problems with my brakes, they have never frozen or overheated, etc. I put new brake pads and rotors on the front about 6 months ago only because it was time for replacement. The question is: how much disc brake drag is acceptable? Looking around on the internet for answers there doesn't seem to be a consensus: some people say absolutely no brake drag, some say that a small amount is normal. What do you think?
View 6 RepliesProblems with the windscreen fluid sprayer on my Mercury sable 2001. One nozzle works properly, but only a small amount of liquid "dribbles" out of the left nozzle. I could remove the material from the hood that covers the hose system and probably repair the situation. However, that is much work and replacing the material onto the underside of the hood may be difficult. Is there a simple solution for this problem?
View 4 RepliesMy wife's '02 Explorer has developed an issue with the heat/AC. As far as I can tell, the heat is hot when it's supposed to be hot, and the AC is cold when it's supposed to be cold. But, the problem is that everything only blows out through the defrost vents, no matter what setting it is on.
I know there are other threads on this type of subject, and I have read a lot of them. I thought I had identified that actuator gizmo as the culprit, but the more I read, it didn't seem like the symptoms for that issue are exactly like mine. I want to try and fix it myself, and I'd love to take the time to read everything on the subject, but warmer weather is here and my wife wants it fixed yesterday!
This problem reminds me of the time the vacuum pump went out on my F-350 and the defrost vents were all that would work. I wish this problem would be as easy to fix as that was.
I've owned this vehicle since new and never overheated or had any major mechanical issues. It just hit 130,000 miles and recently completed a 1500 mile uneventful road trip running great.
The other day I noticed an excessive amount of steam/smoke coming from the exhaust while sitting at a stop light after recently starting the vehicle. Once the van was up to temperature the exhaust steam/smoke cleared up.
I checked the radiator level and found it was about a qt low, and did not seem to have any exhaust bubbling or fumes in the radiator.
Then, I pulled the dipstick and the freshly changed oil looked a bit cloudy (I got really nervous), I really can't say its milky colored because I can still see though the oil and see the cross hatches on the stick. But it doesn't look like new oil.
The engine seems to be running fine, no loss of power or missing. Starts and idles fine.
Talked with a mechanic friend and he immediately said blown head gasket or intake manifold was allowing water from one of the four corners where the gasket seals the water jacket, into a cylinder.
Since that first episode of excessive steam/smoke it hasn't reproduced the problem to that degree. It does start to steam out the exhaust after about 5 minutes of starting cold, but seems to dissipate after the engine warms.
The amount of smoke / steam in that first episode, I couldn't see the car behind me in the mirror ... I looked like a mosquito fogger.
I turn it up on any fan speed, and set it on the floor setting, and nothing blows out the bottom vents. pretty much no air is getting to the bottom vents.
I do feel some air blowing out of the windshield defroster vents when I put it on the floor setting. seems like something is blocking it maybe?
2002 Echo, automatic, 190k miles, no troubles with it. My AC and Heat have always blown out the vents, regardless of the direction that I want them to come from. The dial that should send them through the vents, the dash, and at your feet doesn't really do that much to send the air anywhere except through the vents.
View 2 Replies2007 F550 with the 6.0. About 2 months ago I replaced the EGR cooler with a Bulletproof cooler. Truck ran well for a few weeks. Then I started getting the "turbo fart". I stopped using the truck until I had an issue with another truck. I was stuck so I sent the 07 out without cleaning the turbo. This morning a decent amount of white smoke started coming out of the exhaust. The smoke would sometimes get a bit gray. Going up hill it didn't have much power at all.
View 8 RepliesI installed a 55w 8000K HID kit on my GX470, but the amount of light coming out isn't sufficient, compared to another car i installed exactly the same kit on. I get a really nice, bright light that spreads a good distance with my other car and on the Lexus, i get dim light with some greenish tint (should be blue as it is 8000K) that doesn't light a lot of the road ahead of me. What can i do to improve the amount of light and the distance it shines?
View 8 RepliesI have a 2009 KIA rondo with 64k miles. There is an unusual amount of noise coming from the front left side. At first I thought it may have been road noise. But the sound eventually became louder at higher speeds 60-70 mph. So I inspected all the fluids and motor mounts all are clean, not burnt odors and or bubbles. The motor mounts are not damaged. All belts are in excellent condition. There is alot of brake dust on the outside rim of the tire. Pulled the front right tire to inspect the caliper and brake pads. There is plenty of pad left and has normal wear, the rotor also has wear consistent with that of the pads. Pulled left front tire to inspect caliper and pads, thinking because of noise that the harmonics might be on the driver side. Normal wear on caliper and pads. So rotated the tires back to front, hoping maybe it was tire noise. No such luck there is still alot of noise coming from front end....its not a whining sound more a muffled tone that sounds like road noise. I don't want to replace the calipers if I don't have too since they are 332.00 each.
View 3 RepliesWhen I test drove this 2004 Ranger Edge 4.0 I purchased about three weeks ago it had mucho AC cooling. So much so I had to turn it way down.
Today, when I could have used it, the AC has gone south. There is very moderate cool air coming out even on the turbo setting. Was actually better with the AC off and the windows open when the truck was on the road.
I got a sick feeling thinking maybe the dealer topped off the coolant knowing it had a leak but I have a push-on plastic coolant gauge and it is reading "filled" into that blue area about 25% of the way with the truck at idle and the AC on. The compressor is cycling on and off... mostly off, though. Not sure if that is normal or ??
Noticed a small whine coming from the A/C compressor? I caught ear of it the other morning when I was putting the trash on the street and the truck was running. It's definitely the A/C because when you cut it off the noise goes away.
View 2 RepliesI was running a small errand today, about 10 miles round trip. When I started out, I heard a small 'clunk' sound coming from the rearend. When I was on the return trip and making my last stop, the 'clunk' sound had become quite louder as I accelerated, and could really feel it. When I got home, I took a look and was expecting to see maybe a sway bar link detached or the bushing worn.
I did not expect to see two lug nuts completely gone, including the stud, as well as the holes in the rim no longer round. Big gouges in the rim around the remaining lug nuts, about to be sheared off! The other side had two missing lug nuts, however, the rim is still intact. What would cause such horrific damage? I am lucky that I was not driving on the freeway at 80 mph! This is my 2002 Excursion 4x4.
OK so I noticed the last few weeks that I have just a small shutter coming from my rear end every now and then. It feels like it locks up for just a sec and then is fine. It will normally do this earlier in the day and maybe once or twice. Is this telling me its time to add some more friction modifier into the rear diff or do I have another issue. I don't notice it once the truck is warmed up and been driving around some.
