I have a 2010 ford edge. The last two times I tried to fill the gas tank, the nozzle on the pump shuts off as if the tank is full. The tank has not reached it's capacity. I have to "dribble" the gas into the tank, and even then it seems to be backing up the pipe. A simple two-minute fill takes ten minutes.

As I finish up a trip with it, I know I've "pushed the envelope" as far as fuel range is according to the guage/computer. I get the warning that I need to refuel and that I have 50 miles to empty, but I've driven 40 miles into that last range before refueling, and only been able to put 14 or so gallons into the tank.
My question is: If I were to drive until it literally runs out of gas, then fill it, would the guage/computer recalibrate or do I need to install a new fuel sensor?
I get the warning as the guage indicates just under 1/4 tank remaining, and I have yet to run it until the guage indicates that it's actually on empty (family and dog are with me so risking it is currently out). I'm hoping that the guage itself knows what the real deal is and that the computer is just not with it.... OH, FWIW full is EXACTLY on the "full" line and not over as in my Kia.
I have 2007 explorer 4.6 v8. The check engine light is on, and i can only fill the gas tank about 3/4 full, after moving the gas nozzle all around and taking about 15 minutes. I read a few different things while searching. Like vapor canister need to be replaced. or the vent hose needs to be replaced.
View 1 RepliesSince purchase, I've had one gas fill up at 694 miles. That was four or five weeks ago and it's still full. My EV ratio is 65% (1100 miles) and will continue to increase. I realize I'm carrying a lot of dead weigh for weeks. For those with high EV mode use, what's your recommendation with gas fill ups? I'm thinking no more than fives gallons for daily commute and around town.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 Santa Fe. If I fill the tank to full, or close to full I will have a fuel smell in the car until the tank runs under 3/4. If I keep it under 3/4 I usally do not get the smell in the car.
The dealer could not figure it out and I still have this issue. It seems the smell is more in the front of the cabin then the rear. It just could seem that way since the smell is very strong. I have to park the car with the windows open.
There are no fuel leaks, no fuel on the ground, no drips, and the no spillage when I filled the tank.
The specs says 23gl in total capacity. However, the last couple times I filled up gas, it was 19+ gl I put in with about 20+miles indicated on screen before filling up. So it means ~21gl in total capacity? I assume with 20+ miles left = ~2 gl of gasoline. I know the calculation is rough?
View 7 RepliesThe manual for the 450H does not agree with what I am experiencing.
1. The Manual says the fuel capacity is 17 gal, but with an empty tank the most I can put the tank is around 14 gallons. What is the real capacity, and why does the manual say 1y7 gallons.
2. For my 450H with 19 inch wheels the manual says tire pressure should be 33 psi. However, when delivered from the factory the tire were 39 psi. What should the tire capacity be?
There seems to examples throughout the manual of conflicting information.
I'm sure it's been asked before but why even show the gas level and claim those miles in the range. Also is there any way to tow this thing and while I'm here is there any way to use a floor jack on these.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2002 F250 SD 4x4 w/5.4. I drained the front differential gear lube and refilled with 2 qts of gear lube as specified in my owners manual. Actually the manual says 1.8l / 3.8 pts. The fluid level is not up to the fill hole and if I stick my little finger in the hole I can barely get any on the tip of my finger. The owners manual says these capacities are for F250/350 w/ Dana 50 axle. It then says F350/450/550 capacity as 2.7l / 5.8 pts with a Dana 60 axle. My question is should the fluid level be up to the fill hole, as with the transfer case and rear end levels? Could I have a Dana 60 with the higher gear oil capacity in my F250? Whats the proper gear oil level?

I just changed the oil and filter for the first time. The good book says the capacity is 4.6 qt. I did that, started the engine, let it circulate then shut it off for a half hour. The dip stick shows about half way between the full and add markers. So, seems like the capacity to the fill line is more like 5 qt.
I used to fill up with gas without shutting the car down, because I didn't see a need for it. I would disable the fan on the climate control every time to avoid having the ice come on as I refueled. I figured that because the ice wasn't coming on, I wasn't breaking the law. I've since changed my mind about this, after reading posts here on Prius Chat. I also recently noticed on the last few fillups that it seems like the gas capacity on the bladder has decreased significantly.
I used to be able to refuel the car when it was down to a single flashing pip and put 10.5 gallons in with no problem, and without overfilling. I have always been careful not to overfill. However, it seems like now I can get only 8 gallons in at the most. The capacity has decreased with the colder weather, however I used to be able to get 10 gallons in on a consistent basis without overfilling even during the winter.
Is this reduced bladder capacity a result of damage to the system, or is this normal? I have probably filled the car up about 100 times since I've owned it (odometer is around 50K now) while remaining in the ready mode.
Is there anything I can do to expand the capacity of the bladder back to normal, or will I have to live with this? Although it's annoying, I'm not going to spend the money to replace the fuel tank unless it's truly necessary.

On my 2012 F250 with 19k miles I have NEVER been able to fill tank with more than 22.4 gallons of diesel fuel. That was the day I ran out of diesel going to fill up thinking I had 26 gallons. Once the light comes on I'm filling up, I have every tank fill DOCUMENTED with (date/cost/gals/trip/$per gal).
Talked to local dealer Raleigh, NC , their explanation was fuel pickup was raised to prevent contaminates from getting into injectors. They advertise 26 gallons, should be able to access 26 gallons.
I'm close to pulling the trigger on a Crew cab F-250 Powerstroke, 156" wheelbase. Need to know about fuel tank capacity? Ford's website and manual are somewhat cryptic. I believe it's 26 gallons.
View 3 RepliesI just bought my 2012 Elantra Limited from the dealer today . The fuel gauge showed about two bars, a quarter tank I estimated. However when I went to fuel it, the pump clicked off after about 1 gallon, indicating the tank was full.
That was odd so I just figured there was some air in the tank or in the hose, so I tried adding some more fuel. I got about a half gallon more added when it clicked off again. Well, I know you're not supposed to top off the tank so I tried to add more. Got about two gallons added when it clicked off. I stopped fueling at that point for fear of causing damage.
My fuel gauge now shows a little less than half full. How can that be? Is there something I can do to fix this?
Why the battery never charges to full capacity in the battery level indicator on the LCD screen? It never goes over 6 bars out of the 8 bars so it only gets to be 3/4 full.
View 15 RepliesI have a 99 F350 with a 29 gallon tank. I filled it up yesterday and the total gallons was a little over 24. The low fuel light was on and the gauge only goes up to almost 3/4. I recently bought this truck. I've searched for a thread on here possibly addressing this but have been unable to find one. I've been going through possible issues in my head.... What the problem is?

View 14 RepliesThe gas tank on my 2006 Honda CRV is identified in the manual as holding 14 gallons (US). When I fill it to the auto-stop of the pump nozzle, I get about 270 miles until the low fuel light comes on (indicating about 30 miles to go). I have recently discovered that if I continue to very slowly and carefully continue to fill the tank, I can add as much as another 3 1/2 gallons up to 15 1/2 gallons total added on top of the residual gas (between 1 and 2 gallons) in the tank. This gives me as much as 350 miles until the light comes on. Are there any negative issues in doing this?
View 18 RepliesMy 2014 Sonata GLS has definite air conditioner problems. It takes some time for it to get cold. I had no problems with my 2011 Elantra - I never had to turn the air conditioner to its highest level. In addition, it cooled almost immediately. However, I have to turn on the Sonata's air conditioner to full capacity and wait several minutes before I get some cool air. When it's 95 degrees out here in Florida, a few minutes can seem like a long time.
Haven't had my car checked yet.
I know the manual says the tank's cap. is 18, but I've run the gauge to ' E ' with yellow warning lite on and it'll still only take 15 -15.5.
Can it still have 2 gal. past the E marker ?
I had a new Fuel Pump put in the cheaper plastic one into my 2001 F250 5.4 with a 112,000 miles.
Problem I am having since getting it back is when filling the gas tank up it will shut the pump off at 3/4 tank. I then have to sit there playing the squeezing game to get more gas in. The vent line looks fine no kinks in it and the tank looks level so what could be the issue causing me this headache?
